The Amazing Race Australia: Celebrity launched for 10 last night drawing 486,000 metro viewers, one of its better premiere numbers of late, with comedian Dane Simpson & father Bow eliminated.

It was the second best entertainment show of the night and even eclipsed The Block in two older demos.

I'm not too surprised by this.  Despite a small amount of people who complain that a celebrity version of anything is the worst, they tend to help ratings.  It's probably not the only factor, but it helps.

Thursday was a night without football codes, in a night which was ultimately a close race between two networks.

The Block led entertainment at 499,000 metro viewers.

That was ahead of The Amazing Race Australia: Celebrity (429,000)

That eclipsed Hard Quiz (474,000), 7:30 (459,000), SAS Australia (402,000), and The Amazing Race Australia: Celebrity (332,000).

In Total TV viewers last Wednesday were:

Are these numbers overall something that the network will be happy with? I know the ratings were not good the last two seasons  and I know this is probably TAR Australia’s last chance, and I want it to succeed and stay on the air

If 10 had any shot at winning a weeknight it was last night when it had 3 key offerings -including the Matildas– while other networks included repeats.

Yet while it was one of their best performances in a long time, it was still third overall, arguably due to its weaker news offering in early evening.

The Chase topped entertainment at 466,000 / 440,000 metro viewers.

RBT led its slot at 440,000 with an extended Home & Away from 7pm at 419,000 / 372,000, then 7:30 (408,000), The Amazing Race Australia: Celebrity (389,000), Martin Clunes: Islands of the Pacific (323,000) and Every Family Has a Secret (159,000).

They just announced a second Celebrity Edition for 2024. Must be good enough!

0 had one of its best nights in months last night with its primary channel in second place behind Seven.

A late night  Matildas v Chinese Taipei match scored 456,000 metro viewers and topped all demos.

Elsewhere Nine managed an upset in breakfast with a rare win by Today over Sunrise, which will go some way to make up for its weak primetime.

The Chase led entertainment at 458,000 / 280,000.

A Hard Quiz repeat won its slot at 432,000 then 7:30 (393,000), SAS Australia finale (351,000), The Amazing Race Australia: Celebrity (328,000) and My Mum Your Dad (279,000).

In Total TV numbers last Wednesday were:

The Amazing Race Australia: Celebrity: 635,000
The Block: 1.27m
Home & Away: 886,000
Hard Quiz: 721,000
Question Everything: 544,000
A Year on Planet Earth: 310,000

t was another quiet Thursday but not a great one for local drama.

While Home & Away drew 389,000 at least it is firing with viewers in Total TV where last Thursday was an impressive 907,000.

But SBS drama Erotic Stories was just 42,000 while 7mate’s Darradong Local Council was not much better at 45,000. In late slots, and one on a multi channel, they can’t be expected to draw big crowds, however neither has shown up on Total TV’s Top 30.

To be fair, by 9:30pm there weren’t exactly big crowds anywhere….

Meanwhile 7:30 led with 397,000 then RBT 389,000, an extended Home & Away from 7pm (389,000 / 337,000), The Amazing Race Australia: Celebrity (353,000), Martin Clunes: Islands of the South Pacific (331,000) and Every Family Has a Secret (171,000).

In Total TV numbers last Thursday were:

The Amazing Race Australia: Celebrity: 695,000
Celebrity Gogglebox: 794,000
Every Family Has a Secret: 315,000
Home & Away: 907,000
Football: Matildas v Iran: 553,000
Martin Clunes: Islands of the South Pacific: 535,000
