Game is now line. Remember you need to follow the link to the game page. Here you will need to create a id and password (if you haven't played before, or if you just want a new one). You can use your same site name, or you can confuse the living hell out of me by picking something new. You will need to sign in each time you play. Remember to always hit the submit button when you put your answers in. Once you have done that you can sign back in and you choices will still be marked (you can still change them).
I strongly suggest you double check that your answer are in, as I have no control over the program. And usually once or twice a year someone loses a week.
The game is open until 755pm eastern time unless otherwise noted (even though this week is starting a half hour later I am still closing the board at the normal time. Usually the only time we close earlier is when Canada gets it an hour early.
If you have any questions on the wording of the questions feel free to ask. You can do it privately through private message (where you it will be kept private) or you can use the game thread where all questions will be answered public.

Ok, everyone I am running a little behind schedule (actually I think thats about par for the course for me) in getting this season's pick'em game up and going.
Just some early notes.
The questions should be posted each week on this thread (to reference), there will be a separate link (when its up) at the top of this thread, where you can go to sign up for the game and where you enter your answers for each week of the game (as well as to see how great you are doing, because I know everyone is going to do great).
Here is the hoped for (and never kept) schedule.
1. New game up no later then the Tuesday before the new episode.
2. After the episode I will post what I believe to be the correct answers before people discover that I have apparently been hitting the bong once too many times.
3. Hopefully by the Tuesday following the broadcast the scores for that week will be posted.
This year I am going to try and be consistent with the points awarded for questions (except for the finale episode which is always worth more points, as I need a chance to catch up).
A question that only has two possible answers will only be worth 5 points.
A question with three to 5 possible answers will be worth 10 points.
A question with 6 to 10 possible answers will be worth 15 points
A question with more then 10 possible answers will be worth 20 points (this will happen this week and perhaps next week).
As I like to have you guys be active in playing I also will award points for people who point out when I am wrong (and not not with grammar or spelling otherwise everyone would already have about 3,000 points) at scoring the actual game (In other words on the thread I gave the correct answer but when I entered it into the system I messed up, it does happen and this helps correct my errors). Ad also when I give what I believe are my finals answers, if you can show me that I am wrong you can also earn points. These are worth one little point.
Inmost weeks I will also ask a bonus question (where any answer given is awarded points) just to get some feedback about how you feel the race is for this season. This is usually 5 points.

Question regarding
Do we hear more then one person say (not counting Phil) Amazing Race?
Do they have to say "Amazing Race" on its own, or will it count if its said in a sentence, such as (off the top of my head) "They don't call it it The Amazing Race for nothing"
Also for the driving questions, should there be an option for no self driving?

I will add an option for no self driving. As to the first question, any statement that includes amazing race counts. What wouldn't count is this: we are on a rave and it's amazing!
But things like: I can't believe were on the amazing race. Or it's not called the amazing race for nothing! Just as a couple examples.

What's funny is that I actually read through all of last season's post just to try and keep that down to a dull roar.
Now on to the question. It counts all footage except for the opening credits. So which team is the first full team shown?
If the first screen shot is of 4 racers, yet only one full team is in that shot (then its that full team).
If the first shot is just two racers (from the same team) then thats easy.
If the first shot has 6 people in it and it includes 2 or more full teams then that is an option.

According to the CBS recap, Ron completed it, so I say all teams completed their tasks.

What about the boat task? While they appear to be swimming across, the larger of the two (Ron? Tony?) Can be clearly heard saying "We tried"
Given that the only context of the statement is that they are swimming (In what (to me) appears to be the direction of the next route marker) it appears to me that they failed to complete the boat task as per instructions, which would mean that a team did fail to complete a task.
For the record, I picked no for my answer.

I agree that the answer should be "no". If Phil had met them on the battlefield and told them they need not finish since all other teams were in, then the answer would be "yes". This is what has happened in several previous TARs; but in this ep although we do not see them actually finishing the boat drill nor the watermelon gig, we do see them arriving at the finish mat and being told by Phil that they were last. So if the producers follow previous procedures, Ron and Toni did actually finish the two tasks.

I agree. We don't have any evidence to believe that they didn't complete the task, plus we have evidence that they did complete it, even if that evidence isn't from the episode itself. I say go with what actually happened, not what the editors made it look like.

Agreed. We saw them going to the pitstop, and we saw no evidence of them being mercy Philiminated, thus, they must have completed all tasks.

I am going to assume that they did indeed complete all tasks. But the Race isn't consistent in how they treat this.
Phil doesn't always go and eliminate a team at the point they no longer can complete a task.
Nor does he always mention if a team did quit a task before they get the boot.
It occurred twice in the tenth season (just off the top of my head) with Kellie & Jamie in leg two and Peter & Sarah in Leg 6. But in Kellie & Jamie's case they openly say (Phil doesn't) that they quit the task and this was at the Mat. I don't think they ever tell us that Petter & Sarah never performed the detour (they didn't where they normally would have taken out a detour instruction clue, they were given a clue directing them to the Pit Stop, this was stated after the race, they were even directed by crew to that location, they were so bad off). Those stick out because it happened twice in one season.
But even still I am counting "No" as the correct answer.
I am assuming based on Ron (I think) riding the horse, that they made it through the water task, and then actually made it through the Watermelon Roadblock.
The other issue is this now makes 7 men performing the roadblock. Though the options given were 6 men, or All of them. Though all men didn't perform the RB, every team with a man on it did (and that was my actual intent). So i am taking all of them as the right answer.

HI Joab. And really I haven't kept up to much with spoilers this year (been to busy), but I always have to go through them at the start of each week so that I don't just give a huge lead to those who do follow spoilers.
But with my luck it seems that the detectives fill in a lot of blanks by the time Sunday comes. But I try.

Also how do we classify teams passing one another? As in one team getting the next clue before the team that started the task first or when one team is just shown ahead of the other after one was in the lead (such as in "currently in xth place")?

Ok, this sucks. (and I am stupid).
I will have no real choice but to use starting task position and ending task position. Unless the footage clearly shows the changing order during the task itself. Clearly with the possibility of two teams working on different detours I wont be able to judge the difference between those teams except by starting and ending placement of task. On the same task we might get footage that clearly shows more detail (and I will use that). But on the other side I will have to stick with start and end positions (usually given for all teams).

Could you clarify what "there is no Pitstop" means? Is that a TBC only, or does it include a NEL as well?
And for the record, what does "checking in to the Pitstop" mean? :snicker:

Checking into the pitstop means what position Phil tells you your in. If you arrive at the pit stop but in third and Phil says you have to go back out, or wait for penalty. And when you complete the course or your penalty and Phil tells you your team number five. Then thaats what position you are checked into the pit stop. One further example in the rare case of zev and Justin who arrived in first Phil told them they are team number one, but they then discovered they had to go back out on the course and were eventually eliminated, that counts as checking into the pit stop as last. Ie whatever their official standing for the leg.
A non elimination includes a pit stop, even if it's a mobile pit tsp which we saw in season sixteen. A TBC has no pit stop.

Personally I really like a lot of teams (and after the first leg, can I just say by this stage I thought I would be hating on Chad, but these last two legs I have really, really liked Chad. I'm doing nowhere near as well as during TAR 16. On the other hand, who cares? I'd rather miss a few questions and enjoy/be surprised by the quality of the show instead of watching something so predictable.

I think I did decently, but I'm glad this season is ACTUALLY unpredictable. There is no boring dominating team, the tasks are interesting, and there are (so far) no overused character fighting arches.

Yeah that route marker had the start of the Fast Forward. If it didn't include that it would have been a general route marker directing the teams to the next clue box which was for the Roadblock. And since the Fast FOrward was part of the answer given. then thats the correct one.
As for Chad & Stephanie driving. I saw two clips with Chad driving, but I don't see any footage of them driving before getting to the roadblock. So I can't say if Stephanie drove as well. they have both drove in an episode before so its possible.
On the title. I couldn't tell while watching. So have to wait. And I didn't really pay attention to the Mat so I missed the eye, and have to wait on that as well.

In the previous scene if you look closesly you do see two people with red baseball caps (Chad and Steph) approaching a cab and opening the door. But it is too quick and too far away to actually tell who the couple is. Oh, I love to nitpick :hearts:

We don't get footage clearly showing when teams get their clue, or when the decide which task, or even put their noses on. I either award points to everyone, or depend on the partial data given by order of opening clues, and mixing it the partial footage of teams deciding which task.
If I go with mixing the partial footage its Nick & Vicki (which shows them deciding last, and they finish third). I am leaning with awarded points to all answers as the footage truly doesn't provide a clear answer. If you can convince me differently 1 bonus point.

OK, I'll give it a shot....
There was no general task, because the teams didnt have to do anything. Walking to a clue box is not a task. The miniature was a clue. Figuring out a clue is not a task, even if teams did have trouble with it. (Remember the good old days when solving clues was an integral and regular part of the game?)

As much as it pains me to say it, teams DID search for the next location using binoculars. They were never directed to go to the Church Over Spilled Blood, therefore it is a general task.

For this, I have a very long winded answer, enjoy. And I also reference this screenshot repeatedly.

Firstly, we know that Nick and Vicki were definitely last in arriving at the circus. In the cap of the scramble for the cluebox, they are the only team not seen, meaning they are either off to the left, or to the right. Keeping in mind that the cluebox sits behind Michael and Kev, and that teams approached from the right, I think it is safe to assume that Nick and Vicki are off screen to the right, behind Gary. This would make them last in arriving to the Detour start point.
Secondly, since we know Nick and Vicki finished third, we know that they gained 4 spots. This means that any team that finished 4th or below could not have gained 4 or more spots.
That leaves us with Brooke and Claire, who finish the task first, and Nat and Kat who finish second.
Not only do we see Brooke and Claire open the clue third, but as per the shown cap they are clearly the closest team to the cluebox when Mike and Kev are opening their clue (2nd) From this we can conclude that Brooke and Claire open 3rd and finish first, a gain of 2 spots.
More difficult is Nat and Kat. One of the two is directly behind Brooke and Claire (Partially obscured by Mike) and the other is behind Mike's right shoulder. From these, we can assume they are in front of Chad and Stephanie, shown behind them, and clearly they are in front of Gary. This places Nat and Kat at either 4th or 5th going into the circus task.
Even if we take Nat and Kat at 5th, they still only gain 3 spots by finishing 2nd.
So- in summary.
Nick and Vicki- 7th->3rd (4 spots)
Nat and Kat- 4th/5th->2nd (2/3 spots)
Brooke and Claire- 3rd->1st (2 spots)
Even Gary and Mallory could not have made up more than 2 spots if they went from 6th (In front of only Nick and Vicki, which I suspect is what happened) to 4th.

Teams were instructed to search for their next location. In season 1 it was enough to constitute a Roadblock, so by that precedent it must be a task.

But you are forgetting a very serious aspect. Getting a clue doesn't equal starting a task. Teams have to get the clue, we can have a reasoned guess about this order, but that doesn't even mean that those teams read the clue in the same speed, or made their choice of task in the same order as getting their clue. Or even getting their noses, as this appeared to be the actual start point of the tasks at the circus because everyone had their noses before getting to either side of the detour.
Those are the primary reasons that I think I have to give free points. THe best we can do is guess about getting the clue, not the task itself.

That may be, but in similar situations, they would include the "Currently in..." subtitles, which I think would be used as the point of reference in this case, if they were included.
Also, if we cast our mind back to TAR 15, where a different problem cropped up, but I am using it to get the 10 damn points that I desperately need to claw back towards the top 10 as precedent.

Sam & Dan (Used From start of Detour and using the same Criteria of last week of when they get to a point where they need to don equipment or change for a task), fairest I could be. Sam & Dan drop one position due to the sudden loss of blood from their brains to their downstair brains.
Since the circus was literally meters away, wouldn't the Detour start point be the moment they reached the cluebox? The fact that they had to wear red noses could also constitue "donning equipment" for a task. Given that they were supposed to put the noses on immediately, I would consider the moment they open the clue to be the Detour start point.

I think climbing up to the tower and looking for the next location (with a tricky miniature building at the back which they have to figure out is the figurine which is their clue to the next location) is considered as a general task. Just my two cents worth.
And i definitely believe Nick and Vicki gained the most positions. They're last at the Detour and finished third. If you're watching the episode, you'll be extremely shocked at how fast they're at the Detour.

I thought that teams trickled in after it opened?

Kwando. We know that Kevin and is third in line, we know that Kevin & Michael are the 2nd team to get and two open a clue. We know the clue box is very close to the gate. And while Kevin is ripping his clue open, we can see a person from every team (well except Jill & thomas who were ahead of Michael & Kevin). Thus all teams had to be at that gate before it opened.
Thus all were fully equalized.

I just freeze framed the sequence that shows teh picture you attached.
Clearly the first three racers at the gate, are Thomas, Jill and Kevin. Next scene Thomas is pulling out a clue, as Jill runs up to the clue box with Kevin right next to here.
Next scene Thomas and Jill opening Clue.
Next scene (which includes the frame posted above) is Kevin (with Michael behind him opening his clue, the clue box is behind them and it appears that Brook & Claire are grabbing their clue at this point. We can also see that a line is basically formed. With Nat & Kat, then Chad & Stephanie and then we see running up Gary (we see a small fraction of Mallory's arm she is up camera from Gary slightly). But you do see Nick running up (at about the time you see a sliver of Mallory's arm) and he is not in the same basic line formed by others. He appears to be going directly to the clue box, and by the time the scene changes again he is now past Gary & Mallory and Chad & Stephanie.
Now in previous seasons, it can be a free for all, in others teams ahve been very respectful and gone in order. We have no way of knowing. But based on the formed line idea (take one in turn) it would appear that Nick & Vicki would be last, but based on screw the line who ever gets their hand in the clue box is the order we go in, Nick & Vicki could easily be before Nat & Kat (the clip doesn't go long enough to let us see we actually gets to the cluebox first.
But there are two many examples of teams pushing their way to get a clue, for me to even consider this reference.

I knew I had clarified, the detour issue before as when that tasks starts be it the walk from a car by the location or when they actually start doing something specific to the task (in many cases putting on safety equipment or costumes). I decided that doing something specific to the task would mark the start, and since we see teams in that same basic area with their noses, I assume one of the clowns handed out noses around the time they got the clue. Though we don't have an specific picture to point out exactly where they got their noses.
But that same basic rule applies. In the above post I explain why I can't use getting the clue. And the criteria above their is no specific footage to clarify racing order.

WOW! I can't believe I won this week! :) Couldn't have come at a better time, too. I had a couple of really crappy weeks back there.
Regarding the question of who is shown holding the first clue in Oman, is it the first person holding the first new clue they get in Oman, or does the clue they receive at the Pit Start in Russia count? (Like, let's say the clue tells them to fly to Oman and then drive somewhere once they get there, and then they show a racer holding THAT clue in the car in Oman.)

I my I crewed that one hope yes their Xth to depart counts., and Opps I should have included a 1st for Nat & Kat, oh well, I hope at one point they do worse...

Once teams arrive in Oman which person is the first one we see holding a clue (Can't be clue packet). So it wouldn't be them leaving Russia (not in the right country).

FIrst clue (fromOman) So if a team holds out the first route marker from the starting point once landing in Oman it wouldn't count. Needs to be the first clue teams have a chance to get to in Oman.

I almost put checked in, but left it this way just to. I almost asked this as the follow question. Is the team that checks in as Team Number 1, but since I was doing something similar to the last place team (and I actually thought Gary & Mallory would be hours behind everyone, and might get eliminated without ever making it to the Mat.)
But the reverse is what happened.
All I can say is thank god for that preview of the RB, that really gave me a ton of points.

This is a question people will challenge. I chose one team, but i think the answer is two teams. Nat and Kat got a little lost while driving to the bridge, and they clearly said they had to "TURN AROUND" back to the bridge. And it is because of that they arrived third at the bridge.
Nick and Vicki, are clearly lost. The korean leading them had no clue where they're going too.
So if you count Nat and Kat's small turn about as getting lost, it's 2 teams. If not, just Nick and Vicki.

What does this question mean?
Is there any task after the Ipad memory task, or is it simply teams going from route marker to route marker until they get to the Pit Stop (or even head directly to the Pit Stop).
For an example in TAR 12, after their difficult memory task teams had to a clue that would direct them to a statue of Captain Cook (they needed to find where it was by asking locals), once at the statue that last clue directed them to the Pit Stop. So besides navigating there was no other task after the memory challenge.
Tasks are something like a roadblock, detour, intersection, Fast Forward, drinking a boot of Beer, having to climb up to the top of a building to get the next location, ect...

But here you can argue. All teams do have to get clues answered, but I only consider Brook & Claire (who stop at a Hotel, and Jill & THomas we stop God only knows where), as Nat & Kat ask various cab drivers, but once they get in one and it starts driving they never get out.

It' s interesting to see that the majority prefers the seasons before TAR All-stars and not so much the recent ones. TAR 17 for me felt a little like the older ones and that' s why I liked it so much.

I loved that season because of the teams involved. Like what Phil said, TAR 14 felt a little like TAR 1,3,5 and 7. And now TAR 17 feels like one of the old seasons too. Maybe it's because TAR 17 has 12 legs and in the older seasons, if you take away the TBC episode.. there's also only 12 legs.. so it feels like nothing much changes? I really like TAR 3 because even Flo may be one whineeeey b***h, she's still nice as she is (remember how she helped Ken and Gerard?) and how the twins were alpha male but nice and interesting at the same time. It was also the very first season which got me hooked on to the show.
I think many people picked Season 5 because it was the first season of the show which got them hooked on to TAR!! :kisses

Indeed, Season 5 was the first season I watched that got me hooked onto the show. Subsequently, I've watched the older seasons before but because I kinda watched them all in a rush, I don't really have much impression of those. Season 5 wasn't that great a season for me because the winners killed it all. I'm probably in a minority with this view lol. But the final outcome matters a lot to me and can affect the whole season for me.

mswood, i checked and i still had no idea why my answers were not submitted. :'(
I've been patiently waiting for the final results of this game and it shocked me that my answers were not even submitted when i clearly submitted it twice. Is there anyone else experiencing the same problem as me? I remembered the first time it lagged awhile, so i waited awhile more, before answering the whole set of questions again (while changing some answers here and there), before clicking the submit button and then it loaded back to the same page!
I can even remember each and every option which i picked!!

I was concerned that knowing the outcome of things would take away the enjoyment of watching the episode.
