"This season, TAR hits ONE. MILLION. MILES." :martini:
Along the way, more than 300 teams have experienced:
The extreme! "This is amazing!" -Tiffany from season 27
The exotic! Tyler's shock face from season 28
And the unforgettable! Right in the kisser, show that knight who's boss!
Relationships have been pushed to their limits. My favorite Rachel racer's most incredible quote :funny:
Some dreams came true. Congrats Lucas & Brittany and Kisha & Jen again!
While others were shattered. Luke :2hearts: and my least favorite Rachel during that open ballot U-Turn

Now 11 new teams have a shot at this adventure!"

DeAngelo & Gary and Kaylynn & Haley are our first introductions!
Leo & Alana met on Tinder 10 months ago and believe they will be underestimated as the nerdy team.

Phil welcomes the teams on the stage of the Hollywood Bowl and competition banter ensues between the Panthers and Leo & Alana. "Is everyone ready to race?"

Will & James are introduced! James says he has auditioned so many times with other family members and just now got on the show. Michelle & Victoria smile. More TAR butt-kissing from Nate & Cody.

Phil announces the premise of the show like everyone has already forgotten. Ouch.

He reveals teams must run to their bags to open up their first clues and then take a taxi to LAX!

Teams are freaking out. Intro time! Nathan & Cody's bit, best thing I've ever seen.

Anyone get the location?

Teams arrive at Piarco Int'l Airport and are immediately in Port of Spain. Jerry & Frank are a basketball family. Michelle & Victoria are introduced as the Louisiana sisters. Hayley & Kaylynn are searching for the 24 HR Fruit Stand.

Riley & Maddison rip open the first clue. Teams must roll steelpans a quarter of a mile to Exodus Panyard. The first seven teams to get the clue from the reaper will get on the earliest flight to Tobago!

Hung & Chee and Riley & Maddison are introduced during the task.

Nathan & Cody and Michelle & Vic are rolling in 5th and 6th. Will & James, Kellie & LaVonne, and Leo & Alana arrive at the fruit stand in 7th-9th.

Eswar & Aparna are introduced as the UC Berkeley siblings. They grew up watching the show when they were 10 and 8.

Eswar & Aparna are last to arrive at the fruit stand. Meanwhile, DeAngelo & Gary get to the panyard first. Carnival insanity to the maximum! They find the midnight robber relatively quickly. Jerry & Frank join them on the first flight.

Will & James take the last placement on the first flight. Everyone else on the second flight.

Well...

Brook & Claire finally getting recognized once more from their watermelon launch incident in an advertisement sponsored by Consumer Cellular. We have a new sponsor! Reminds me of the Zyrtec Salutes bit we had back in season 14.

The first flight teams sprint to the taxi stand. Riley & Madisson reveal they had grown a beard when they were playing pro volleyball in Greece.

ROUTE INFO: Travel by boat to Nylon Pool. Search through 125 painted fish among the size of a football field for a specific pattern matching the one on their boat and use the code attached to open a lock to unlock their next clue.

"Do you know Jack Sparrow? Yeah. That's my brother."

Carolina Panthers, boo. Go Bears!

Nathan & Cody are extreme fishermen!

2nd flight arrives in a mad sprint to the cabs!

The teams on the first flight are searching along the rope grid for the numbers. Jerry & Frank are confused about the combination aspect of the task. Hung & Chee and Nathan & Cody are on their 12th and 13th fish. Will & James are on their 17th fish.

Leo & Alana and Eswar & Aparna catchup in 8th and 9th followed by Haley & Kaylynn and Kellie & LaVonne in 10th and last to Nylon Pool. These intros are a mess.

Michelle & Victoria find their fish 1st!!!!

ROUTE INFO: Travel to Pigeon Point and get the next clue under the cabana.

Volleyballers follow in 2nd.

Jerry & Frank make a comeback and get their lock in 3rd. Kellie & LaVonne's brains are turning to mush among teams yellow colors.

Will & James get their fish in 4th with Hung & Chee in 5th after doubting their fish.

"You know I'm dyslexic ... so numbers are a little tricky" You can do it Kellie!

Michelle & Vic reach the ROADBLOCK: "Who thinks they can 'steel' the show?" One team member must learn how to play a piece of a marimba tune to receive their next clue.

Vic reveals she's been playing piano since she was 5, maybe that will help? :funny:

Riley & Maddison get to the Roadblock.

So far liking the leg, even tho having a flight (split flight even) in the middle of the leg is kinda hmmm, hopefully the RB scrambles teams. The fish task did the good job to screw teams tho

And we come back to Kellie & LaVonne finding their lock on fish #63. Quickly "pans" to DeAngelo & Gary arriving at the steeplan RB. DeAngelo thought it was going to be a heavylifting task.

"Somewhere in my DNA, somebody played an instrument."

Eswar & Aparna and Nate & Cody and Leo & Alana arrive at the RB followed by Haley & Kaylynn (10th place currently).

Michelle (oops) succeeds in 2nd and is on their way to the Pit Stop. They make an ethnic comment. No comment from me. Michelle head off in their boat.

Will & James and Jerry & Frank struggle while Kellie & LaVonne arrive at the RB in last place. "It was numbers everywhere and I'm like oh... God."

Hung takes a hard fall on the mat :clap2:

My goodness.

In other words, Hung & Chee are team number one and win the one million dollars, lol. However.... They are still racing. It's a Pit Nonstop.

Gary has no rhythm according to DeAngelo.

Riley & Madisson are team number 3. No Pit Stop announcement. :(

Kellie & LaVonne have hope, but wants to get out of the area. Teams all around are failing the task.

We return to DeAngelo's biggest fear of being eliminated first coming close to reality. But it doesn't matter because Gary succeeds in currently 9th place.

Kellie's time. "Don't get flustered. Stay with it." :funny: She succeeds and leaves Nate & Cody as the last team at the RB.

Panthers and Olympians square off to the mainland. Nate & Cody finishes and are rushing.

I was super confused when Nathan and Cody were eliminated. Thought for sure it would be a keep on racing for everyone, not just teams 1-10. Weird. Anyway, I wouldn't say well worth the wait considering the fact that we had to wait TWO DANG YEARS for this to air after filming, but I'm glad the show is back.

SNEAK PEEK OF THE SEASON
Show content
This season of TAR! Over 30,000 miles with hair-raising challenges, stunning locations, frustrating moments, and new surprises.

The new Yield sign is so ugly. Ugh.

Who will win TAR?

"This is baaad." - sarcastic Kaylynn or Haley.

End credits.

Yeah. It’s funny that if it was just a normal leg then no one would bat an eye but with the KOR somehow a team finishing last and going feels weird despite that being most legs of the race

The first ten-fifteen minutes certainly felt rushed. Not sure if we ever got a full intro for Hung & Chee? No airport scenes, either. The Roadblock benefitted from being as fleshed out as it was and I'm glad, based on the episode, that goat racing wasn't a standalone task. I'm very glad TAR is back, but perhaps the premiere should've been 90 minutes.

I liked the leg, it's true that 90 mins would have worked best (to see teams go to LAX, more filming in Trinidad, etc.)
Like all the teams so far, most surprised by the Cajun Sisters, I think they will be a good team.

Liked all the tasks, and I don't mind that it was a Keep on racing but with an elimination, it added a little twist.

I'm guessing it could be something like multiple teams can get Yielded on the same Leg depending on whether a team chooses to do so. ???

The teams went through a lot, and it was only one leg.

While it has happened internationally, it was crazy to see an elimination on a KOR.
Trinidad provided a fun start, but teams were thoroughly taxed once on Tobago.
Having teams fly to one location to get tickets to another reminded me of TAR 7. #BackToBasics
The fish was a tough mental task with many things to remember.
Some racers really had a hard time carrying a tune, which made for a fun to watch Roadblock.
One leg and some team members are already snipping at each other.

Pretty crazy premiere.

Per the airport scenes, I feel like those have been few and far between in recent seasons in general. Back in the earlier seasons when teams had to search for their own flights, buy their own tickets, etc., there was more to show. Now that, if I remember correctly, everything is already reserved for them for the most part, it kinda takes that out. I could be drawing a blank (I probably am because I feel like there was an episode or two last season) but the last time I remember teams having to find their own flights and buy their own tickets (or at least that being shown) was final 4 of TAR 30 and I think that was the only time that season. That was also what felt like the one time we randomly learned about the dynamics between the teams too so it was pretty weird. Anyway, it's just the new age of TAR editing, I guess.

That, or nothing really standoutish happens. Usually, the only times we've seen airport scenes in the new age of TAR is when teams were at risk of missing or making a flight (Nicole & Victor) or some ticket counter drama occurring (Nicky & Kim vs. Tim & Marie).

It occurred to me that the Yield might have elements of the old and lamented Fast Forward. Each team will get once chance to Yield another team during the Race. This Yield would remain available as long as there’s a team remaining that hasn’t used it. How long a team will be yielded I have no idea, but this will bring back an element that has been missing since the FF disappeared from aTAR.

It was a good opening leg. They were very careful not to use the words “pit stop” so it was clear that there wasn’t going to be one, and be a KOR leg.

I enjoyed the episode for sure! But I also agree with some other people here that it also felt very rushed from an editing standpoint at times. Will have to re-watch it to notice anything I missed the first time around.

I think having it be 90-minutes or even 2-hours long (like originally planned) would have immensely improved the editing on this premiere. But I guess CBS showing a rerun of S.W.A.T. immediately after was more important to them?

First of all, did they hire Allan Wu to write the on-screen descriptions for the tasks. :funny:

Overall, other than the rushed first segment, I really enjoyed this premiere. It was fun, hectic, and culturally relevant.

Thoughts on the tasks:

Carnival Task: This was a fun task, and I liked how there were departure times depending on when you got the clue. Reminded me of an old-school TAR premiere where there was one every first leg.

Fish Task: Enjoyable, quick task that got teams confused for not paying attention.

RoadBlock: Another fun task where some teams struggled. (Now I have that song stuck in my head :funny: )

Goat Racing: Quick task, but a great one to have by the Pit Stop.

Very surprised to see first leg Keep-on-Racing with last team eliminated.

Gonna say, I really like every team so far, I can say this is going to be an enjoyable cast.

Rating: 4/5

The 2 hour premiere would have been the first 2 episodes back to back. This episode was never going to be longer than an hour. The only extended episode we've gotten in the last....10 years? is the premiere with the blind date gimmick.

I loved the premiere. About the "rushed" comments, nothing's new. It's been like that since the past seasons unless we have 90 minutes premiere. The fish task and the RB were the highlight of this episode. I like all the teams so far, so sad seeing Nathan & Cody eliminated, especially in a KOR leg :(  Preview for the next episodes looks good to me, can't wait to see what will happen.

Good premiere. However, the editing, like most of you have said, feels rushed. This should have been a 90-minute premiere.

I missed going to the beach, seeing Trinidad and Tobago... Love tropical 1st legs, it reminded me of S.22 & S.25 with a last three teams battle. I would have loved it if it was neck & neck where the last three started with the goats at the same time.

Love the cultural tidbits of information on the culture of Trinidad and Tobago; the Carnival, Steel Pan, Goat Racing, of course the beaches, it the Caribbean! You learn something new everyday.

KOR with an elimination, kind off unfair, but interesting twist.

I don't like the cast introductions, it wasn't as proper as compared to earlier seasons.
They should have started with the usual way,
I don't like the introduce 3 teams first then another 2 midway in episode. Get it all at the beginning.
"The eleven teams are Michelle & Victoria, Sisters from Lafeyette, Louisiana *cue bio* DeAngelo & Gary, Former NFL Players from... and so on and so on.

No airport scenes, transpo drama, self driving to the airport.

8/10

I have to say that I loved the premiere. The night-time carnival in Trinidad and the steel-drum task, the flights and overnight rest, the tasks in Tobago and the natural beauty of it, the goats - it was fabulous. I do agree that the editing would have benefited from a 90-minute premiere, but I felt they handled the introductions rather well with the time they had, and actually enjoyed the pace of the edit overall, with only a few minor moments of 'would have liked longer on that'. The cast is wonderful and I'm excited for what is to come!

This made be just me however do you guys count the KOR legs from S18-present to be two legs or one? I am not sure however I am pretty sure that in S18 they stopped the Double Length leg and replaced it with the No-Rest leg. (Double Length leg), "You are the x team to arrive... however this leg isn't over, here is your next clue." (No-Rest leg), "You are team number x (cuts too what prize they won, if there was a prize) however the next leg of the race starts right now... your still racing, here is your next clue."

Just finished watching the premiere episode and I have lots of praise for it! Mind you, we have been waiting for it for two years!  :funny:

However, as many others have said, I do agree the editing was too rushed and that the episode deserved a 90-minute slot. I did enjoy all of the tasks and I love seeing tropical locations, so 32's premiere was right up there with my favorite premiers, being 22 & 25.

I was also a little disappointed with not seeing the initial dash to the airport and the airport "drama" that we used to see in "old-school" TAR. Also, I really don't like how they introduce the teams. Why can't they go back to introducing all 11 teams at the very start of the Race, like they used to do on "old-school" TAR.

Also, I was very surprised with this leg being a KOR! I also didn't mind Cody & Nathan being eliminated, despite it being a KOR? Am I the only one of this opinion? One of the producers have stated that they need to throw in twists in each season, because with so many season made, the Racers kind of expect what happens on each season? Also excited to see the return of the Yield, but I'm not too thrilled that each team has one chance to Yield another team? Didn't know we were going back to TAR5!  :funny:. I also hope there's a couple of Fast Forwards this season. I actually miss the Fast Forward being offered on each leg of the Race, but I understand why they needed to be cut (budget cuts from unused Fast Forwards)

The ratings also didn't look too great. Hopefully they improve as the season goes on! :(

Keep in mind as to ratings. These first two episodes air at 9 pm ET. On the 28th, TAR moves into the 8pm ET slot, as was originally intended, and past seasons with episodes in both hours had lower ratings at 9pm than at 8pm.

The premiere was wonderful for a 60-minute episode. Feels like I got to know all the teams to some extent, and what can I say, this seems like a really lovely bunch.
Some seem like they'll be a boring watch but ZOMFG Michelle & Victoria :funny: Every second they were on screen was TV gold. The fact their mother only carries Victoria's picture, Michelle constantly apologising to Victoria, the whole Vietnamese vs. Chinese moment, etc., etc. I am LIVING!
I adored Kellie's energy and was rooting hard for them to stay in. Kinda ironic to see athletes struggle at anything mental (or am I just uneducated on dyslexia?), but I hope they bottomfeed their way through this race, for as long as possible.
Eswar & Aparna really intrigue me, I'm hoping we get to see much more of their dynamic. They were one of the lesser visible teams this leg.
DeAngelo is an absolute star and even though I usually find athlete teams boring and root against them, I'm looking forward to see more of him. Gary seems meh.
I liked Kaylynn & Haley's backstory, moving out at such a young age is SERIOUSLY tough, huge kudos to them. Not among my favorites, but I hope they last.
Leo & Alana are the typical nerdy archetype, which is always interesting to see crumble under pressure and whatnot. Here for them, for now.
Jerry & Frank gave me nothing, but I love an AA father/son dynamic. Just hope they're not boring.
Will & James had me intrigued, as I watched Will on ANTM and watched James on Capture (that show had so much promise!!), but this leg they just seemed mopey and frustrating. For some reason I think they'll go far though, maybe even finale night.
Hung & Chee were pretty vanilla, but that's what you get when a team kicks ass and places 1st lol. I sense they're here to stay, hoping for some memorable moments.
Riley & Maddison seemed exactly like the type of boring MM team I root against. Hoping that changes.
And last but also least....... Nathan & Cody were by far the least enjoyable, appealing, you name it, team this season and I am soo glad this KOR had a twist in an elimination. Cool story bros, I hope you're even better friends after this but not what I'm looking for on my TV screen. Next.
