Looks like in Costa Rica they do a swim thing and something with harvesting and hauling sugarcane.
There are lots of pretty beaches just south of Quepos in Manuel Antonio. There are palm trees in the background with papa Paolo swimming.

A quick look I found there are more wineries in Arizona than I would have thought.

Krazi, I like your idea better than Arizona wine.  Those barrels are soooooo old looking.  And the two wineries I could find in the Phoenix to Sedona region did not show them.

I wonder if the teams are expected to open up the barrels.  Wouldn't that spoil the rum?

Probably empty casks; or they will be empty by the time the teams try to find the five with clues.  Could this be a DETOUR - load sugar cane or drink the rum (well actually find the clue in the rum)? Both in Costa Rica?

Looks like Papa Paolo's swim on the beach in Costa Rica may be a DETOUR; I thought at first it might be something that happened during their "mandatory rest period" but note that the Paolos have all their backpacks and camping gear piled on a table in front of Ma Paolo and it looks like one of the Linz boys (with orange headband) behind them.

And we may have another DETOUR in the 360 degree loop one team member makes in the Extra 3001. This must be a DETOUR as I just noticed the red band on top of the clue being read by the Bransen Girls.

And do we have another DETOUR in the mini-car race?

That makes three detours in two legs. Something is not right so perhaps each team member has to race around the track in a set time as has been done in other events on previous TAR's.

Note: looks to me like the Linz family finishes the plane/roadblock before the Bransens with the Paolos waiting on the wings or they are done second ?? and the Bransens third . Unless of course the other 2 teams already went ..

I watched closely and picked up some things:

1. When the Linzs are traveling down the river in the raft they jump into the water into a waiting canoe and 5 canoes are there (they are in the lead at this point??). Then they are shown bailing water out of the canoe.

2. Godlewskis appear to be wearing different clothes for race cars and stunt plane even though they are both in Arizona.

3. Linzs are wearing the same clothes for sugarcane and barrels (confirms Costa Rica for barrels)

4. Teams shown doing tasks:

Linzs are shown on 4 tasks -- rum barrels, sugarcane, river canoe, and stunt plane
Paolos are shown on 3 -- swimming, sugarcane, and stunt plane
Godlewskis on 2 -- race cars and stunt plane (reading clue though could be another voiceover)
Weaver 1 -- race cars
Bransens 1 -- stunt plane

Just some observations:

The Linzen could start with the Rum Barrels and switch to sugar cane.  They seemed daunted by the task.

Hoover Dam is awesome.  Been there.  The dam and the river rafts/rowboats are co-located:  Page, Arizona/Lake Powell.  This location is way north of Phoenix and halfway to Park City, Utah

Looking on Goggle Earth at the Williams Gateway Airport, the observation platform faces due east. So the Linzs are looking into the morning sun, right? That is the extent of my sun/shadow detective work. I wouldn't even attempt anything more complicated like what time of morning. I'll leave that up to you experts.  :tada:

I was just using the dam to help pin down the rafting spot. Compare the vidcap with the album shot below--not an exact match, but pretty close. The album doesn't mention the rafting company, but there's a shot of the launch ramp which is just below the dam. Source

Where does Papa Paolo's swim fit in?  It seems to be right there by the pit stop. Would the day start with a ROADBLOCK swim? Only Papa seems to be dressed for the swim and there seems to be a Linz brother standing behind the Paolos. And what are the rules if a team member cannot finish a ROADBLOCK?  I seem to remember that Rob had to wait four hours after the next team arrived when he couldn't finish the four pounds of meat in Argentina. If this is the case here, the Paolos are going to fall way behind.  So after they finish the sugar cane gig, do they arrive at the pit stop last and it is they who have to pile on the clothing to "look rediculous"?

So does all of Ep 7 take place in Costa Rica and Ep 8 begin with the teams flying to Arizona?

But the shot of the teams at the ROADBLOCK air show in Mexa, AZ seem to be early morning shots, so perhaps they fly to Arizona during Ep 7 and have a pit stop somewhere there.

If the white water rafting  is near Page, AZ this  might be the last task before the pit stop since it is on the way toward Park City, Utah which looks to be the site of Ep 9 which takes teams to a "new height" - read: Hot Air Balloon Ride.
