Last week EP challenge was just as long as its recap.

AND WE ARE ON!!

Previously on TAR, 6 teams continued racing through Bulgaria! Recap. Coming up, Alyssa & Josiah decide if they want to use the EP. And a game changing twist coming up!

Brett & Mark depart 1st a bit past midnight. Aly & Josiah are excited over their Pass in their back pocket and their goal is to not use it, planning to have it on Leg 10. Jon & Ana are shooting for 1st as they depart in 3rd. Carson & Jack experienced the "Bulgaria humble bus" and revealed they fought in Rome, Italy before personal traveling. They leave in 4th. Han & Holden leave in last and Han says they won't give up.

Brett & Mark ask Alyssa & Josiah if they had the Express Pass and Alyssa shows them the scars of the coals near their gate. Han & Holden are picking up their boarding passes at the ticket counter. Everyone is off to Naples! Jack is doing a happy dance before we cut to commercials.

And we come back to establishing shots of Naples before the onslaught of teams running to their taxis!!! Han & Holden run the wrong way! Brett & Mark reveal they are going to Castel Sant'elmo. Teams must first travel to the funicular station to ride the way to the top of the fortification.

Alyssa & Josiah are excited to run around in Italy while Josiah often confuses Spanish and Italian. Jack loves that people are doing laundry outside. "If anyone is going to put the fun in funicular, it's us." - Jack.

Brett & Mark and Aly & Josiah are the first to arrive at the funicular. Carson & Jack catch up with tickets while Jon & Ana and Han & Holden end up all catching up in the nick of time before the first and only ride up. Everyone is enjoying the view!

Foot race to the clue box! Seems like everyone is running one way based on flowers from a cannon matching the race flags. Han & Holden and Jon & Ana find the correct way up and receive their clue from the capitano.

ROUTE INFO: Rub the nose of the Pulcinella Statue.

Jon & Ana and Han & Holden run down while Vegas and DnD catch up just after Alyssa & Josiah.

H&H hold the door for Jon & Ana and leave the castle as the first funicular down! Woohoo! Meanwhile, Brett & Mark miss the first one down and are now against Aly & Josiah and Carson & Jack on the second funicular. They look on a lady's phone for directions.

All five teams running now and Josiah almost runs into a delivery truck!

Brett & Mark think it's right around the corner while Han & Holden is panicking asking for directions with Ana asking a driver nearby.

Brett & Mark find the Pulcinella! DETOUR: Mandolin or Mozzarella
In Mandolin, teams must assemble a mandolin to receive their next clue. In Mozzarella, teams must craft a mozzarella wrapped pattern to receive their next clue.

Love they have to run through the streets and that is shifting positions all around.

Brett & Mark and Carson & Jack both leave to do Mozzarella. Aly & Josiah arrive at the nose and choose Mozzarella as well. Vegas and DnD reach the Detour location pretty quickly. They have to braid the mozzarella in a special technique and must weigh between 250-350 grams. Carson & Jack estimate it's over half a pound.

Meanwhile, Ana & Jon and Han & Holden are completely lost and on a completely different street.

We return to H&H asking a cafe patron and realize they went too far with Jon & Ana. They course-correct and find the rooster guy next to the nose.

Jon & Ana are doing Mandolin while H&H are doing Mozzarella.

Aly & Josiah are meanwhile lost and can't figure out their orientation in the old city.

Jon & Ana arrive at the mandolins. Team members must delegate the work and split the strings and hardware for each teammate. Jon reveals he is familiar with guitars back home.

Alyssa & Josiah arrive at the cheese and Brett & Mark are saying this is difficult. Han & Holden argue before arriving at the cheese. Holden reminds Han that she is on race brain again.

Jon complains that the guitar pieces are so small in that dingy workshop.

Han is absolutely confused by the braiding while Alyssa is laser-focused on the demonstration from afar. Carson & Jack go for a first check and none are at the correct weight. Their effort was way too light.

Vegas calls for a check and each are approved until the third one. They have to remake two mozzarella braids.

Jon & Ana are in solitude and Jon is slowly making progress on putting the instrument base together.

DnD are trying to make double the amount while Brett & Mark are at the end of the tunnel of mozzarella wrapping. Han & Holden are doubting their efforts and being the thiefs of comparison against DnD and Vegas. Han decides to watch the demonstration again.

Carson & Jack are checking again and they did too much weight now.

Having researched them before for fiction writing, at least they're assembling a mandolin and not a lute. Those have like 15-20 strings.

Carson & Jack have 1 right at the end of it. Brett & Mark go for their second check and miss one more. Han is confused now.

Meanwhile, at the workshop, Jon finishes up the base and Ana wants him to walk her through it. Ana believes they did good working together. Jon reveals they have a different approach of doing things and this was the ideal task setup for each to do their own thing.

Josiah doesn't know how to braid while Alyssa is doing the brunt work. Carson & Jack go for a check and each end up being approved before Vegas, unbelievable.

Brett & Mark have their final cheese approved and leave the Detour in 2nd.

Ana finishes the stringing and they call for a check. The guitar maker checks and gives them the clue on first try! "Vipo Tu Montesanto"? Is that right?

Alyssa & Josiah are going for their first mozzarella checks and they are bellissimo! They leave in 4th.

Han & Holden are struggling with Holden telling Han the Nike slogan to motivate her. Han feels pressured being the older daughter of the family and a perfectionist. Han is flustered and not understanding the braiding.

Brett & Mark arrive at the grocery delivery task while Han & Holden finish the mozzarella! They leave in joy in last. "Let's go make up some time."- Han.

Carson & Jack are completely lost and find a large graffitied map in a random plaza. "Any little mistake can send you home." - Jack.

Jon & Ana are searching for sausage, and get it.


Brett & Mark are getting zucchini and green onions at the same produce market. Jon & Ana are getting 2 loaves of bread before heading back. Alyssa & Josiah pass by Brett & Mark on the way to the clue box. Mark wanted to just eat!

Carson & Jack are in 3rd at the shopping and stop at the produce market. Brett & Mark get the sausage and they love Napoli after the butcher asked them. Jon & Ana start dropping off items in the box as Alyssa & Josiah read the shopping clue. Brett & Mark are in the background. Jon & Ana receive the clue!

ROUTE INFO: Ristorante de Ettore. Go to a marked car near the piazza to drive there.

Alyssa & Josiah start the shopping while Brett & Mark receive the bucket clue in 2nd.

Carson & Jack grab the panelles. Jon & Ana and Brett & Mark are both speed scrolling to locate the destinations on people's phones.

Brett & Mark find the cars first and are going to the restaurants. Oh, I guess it's chauffeured again. Not actually a self-drive.

Jon & Ana finally finish gathering directions while Alyssa & Josiah are picking up the sausage.

Carson & Jack deliver their groceries, mentioning they haven't seen H&H at all.

DnD get their clue while Alyssa & Josiah are finished with the list. Carson & Jack believe they are in 3rd as they leave in the chauffeured car.

Alyssa & Josiah are off as well. "Vico 2" Oh, I was way off.

Jon & Ana get a jumpscare of their life of Carson & Jack catching up to them so fast and passing them. "That's so irritating. Irritating!" - Ana.

Alyssa believes Carson & Jack are still behind.

H&H are getting their grocery list translated and the language barrier is frustrating to Han. "Phone?" - Holden.

We come back to Italian Street Smarts with Han & Holden. "Telephono" - Holden. They see a "not a butcher shop to you."

Brett & Mark arrive at the restaurant and pick up the clue right before Carson & Jack arrive from behind. They don't see the clue box and go back outside. ROADBLOCK: "Who's feeling saucy?"

One team member must make a margherita pizza from scratch and top it to receive their next clue. Pit Stop coming up with pizza box in hand.

Carson needs to do this Roadblock to gain flexibility for Jack in the back end while Brett is doing the pizza making.

We see the demonstration and it's really easy. "Seemingly super easy." - Carson, Worst Cooks.

Ana & Jon arrive and is doing the RB. Han & Holden meanwhile have so much time to cover still at the shopping.

Ana's first job is Domino's Pizza. Alyssa & Josiah are at the RB and Alyssa is the performer.

Han & Holden get the bread and miss out on the boys not doing the task eating pizza under the shades. Jealous.

Roadblock performers are finished assembling and trying to get the pizza on the metal paddle. Ana remembers to spread flour on the paddle for ease of transfer. Han & Holden finish the delivery and are rushing in their chauffeured car to the restaurant.

Carson is impressed with Ana's pizza skills. She immediately leaves the RB on first try. "All those years working in Domino's Pizza paid off." - Ana.

ROUTE INFO: Travel to the Pit Stop, Castel Nuovo! No last team to arrive will be eliminated announcements now?

Carson's pizza is burning.

Han & Holden reveal they fall into groupthink with other teams there and they need to make every effort to do this urgently and purposefully.

Brett's pizza passes and Mark is completely shocked. They are off and share a kiss in 2nd. Carson's pizza breaks off a piece.

Alyssa's pizza is stuck in the brick oven.

Brett & Mark and Jon & Ana are running to the Pit Stop while Carson has the pizza more perfect now. Alyssa isn't going to use the EP even if she slipped on the pizza and broke her ankle.

Jon & Ana arrive at the Pit Stop with the orchestra from behind. "It was a good day, it was an exhausting day." - Ana. She brags about being the best pizza maker in her town like the supposed D1 athlete.

They are TEAM NUMBER ONE and win a five-night trip to Mexico City, Mexico!

Brett & Mark arrive right behind as TEAM NUMBER TWO.

Carson's pizza comes off the oven and "this is the mother. this is the son."

Alyssa is trying again and glided the pizza into the oven perfectly. Han & Holden are not going to quit. Carson is hoping H&H are still behind while Alyssa pulls off the pizza from the oven to utter perfection. She leaves in 3rd. Carson is still struggling transferring the pizza and cooking it. "It's square."

We come back to Worst Cook in Italy as Carson can't make a pizza to save his life. He hopes the one he is working on is the "Pizza de Resistance". Jack is happy he is eating the failed pizzas while speaking Han & Holden into their existence. Han is doing the task and the fight is on. Carson finally passes with the best crust of the day... burnt... but ok. They leave in 4th.

"Yes, they finished before us. But anything can happen in this race." - Han. Is our twist coming up?

Alyssa & Josiah are absolutely exhausted and hysterical arriving at the Pit Stop. They are TEAM NUMBER THREE! Josiah wants to be number one every time.

Han is cooking the pizza in the oven now while Carson & Jack are asking for directions. "The harm is they just have minutes behind us." - Jack.

Han finishes and is approved on the first try! "We're definitely in dead last right now."

Carson & Jack are still asking for directions.

Han & Holden see the castle and are booking it while Carson & Jack think the right way to get up the castle is around the corner. Holden reiterates the back terrace while Carson & Jack are going into the fortress. Han hopes it's the right castle.

Carson & Jack arrive at the Pit Stop and are TEAM NUMBER FOUR.

Han & Holden come up short from behind and are exhausted. They are the last team to arrive and... IT'S A NON-ELIMINATION LEG. They are the first team in years to come up on one of these legs. Wow. Does that mean we have the Speed Bump back again next leg?

As someone who can trace part of my ancestry to Naples, I loved seeing the city. The fact that most of the leg was on foot led to such a frantic energy. They really did a good job highlighting the food culture, and it did not come as a surprise to see many racers struggle with the pizza peel (When will Carson join Tiffany and Rachel as competitors on Worst Cooks in America? Side note: How did they let Jack do 5 Roadblocks when they did the Fast Forward?). Han talking about her problems with perfectionism was such a good moment, and I'm glad that she & Holden are still in the race.

The only downside was that they did not visit Pompeii/Vesuvius. Phil didn't even mention that Vesuvius was behind him when describing the first location.

I am convinced that having a funicular automatically makes a city 58% more awesome.

I noticed that Team Vegas asked the shopkeepers for directions to their next destination. Strategic move (since they were on camera before, they wouldn't have to stop to sign a release) or just convenience (the shop was close to the departure point)?

It'll be interesting to see if Han & Holden can make the best of being the first beneficiary of a NEL in a long time.
