  • Fearless of ticket agents - too hot to be handled!
Andrea & Malaina are at the massages. Joel & Garrett are tortured. Anna notices Andrea & Malaina were in the first flight and just arrived.

Elizabeth & Iliana find the wrong Thai massages. It's giving Mirna asking for the discotheque energy,  :2hearts:.

Robbin & Chelsea also lost.

Joe & Ian and Alex & Sheridan at the Sword Play Detour.

Joe & Ian strategize to break the choreography into sections away from Alex & Sheridan.

Elizabeth & Iliana see everyone's shoes are here. :clap2: However, there are only a limited number of massage mats and will have to wait until another team to finish before they could join the activity. :o They are stuck in "gridlock". "I feel like if we do nothing, it's just..." They are STRESSED and realize the swords are a little more complicated and dependent on their accuracy skills.

Commercials.

How far apart are the detour spots? The massage one has a time limit, so waiting might be wise, if the other option is further away. Travel time by switching, would probably be enough to compensate for wait time, considering that 5 teams have the task underway.

I would honestly choose to wait, sword skill could take a pretty long time to master so its a none wiser either to change the task. Massage task has a fixed time so as long as you dont tap out your massaeur you should be fine

We come back to the mom-daughter duo between a rock and a hard place. Elizabeth makes the final decision and WAITS.

Joe & Ian head off to the swords while Alex & Sheridan are behind.

Todd & Ashlie are team number 5!

Steve & Anna and Joel & Garrett leave, getting Elizabeth & Iliana into the parlor.

Liam is screaming. "It's like nirvana mixed with so much pain."

Steve & Anna are team number 6 and Joel & Garrett are team number 7!

Joe & Ian passed on their first try and are off from the Detour. Alex & Sheridan are disapproved.

Elizabeth said she could deal with it delivering two babies. :2hearts:

It's basically Alex & Sheri vs. Eliza & Ili at this point.

Alex & Sheridan want to keep trying while Elizabeth & Iliana finish the massage in 12th. The roommate siblings finally get a pass in last place. It's a battle!

Alex & Sheridan vs. Elizabeth & Iliana to the mat in a tight taxi race!

And... ELIZABETH & ILIANA are TEAM NUMBER 12! :conf:

They are shocked! "Most humbling thing I have ever experienced in my life" - Elizabeth, "You've got to be a little faster! (Joyfully)" - Iliana

Alex & Sheridan are last and have been ELIMINATED from the race. They are glad they did the race and Sheridan has no regrets though disappointed.

Next week on TAR, teams dive deeper into Thailand and look for peace (fanny pack left behind, giving off Kisha & Jen energy) and tranquility. Teams shown struggling emotionally and climactically.

I am so happy that the ACTUAL amazing race is back!!! Not that the last few seasons were that bad but I truly missed not having charter planes, having public transport, and having actual twists.

Very good premiere leg. I love how most tasks are challenging, even the first task. 90 mins really give more advantage for a bit better editing and pace, and i like how they soend time to introduce team more proper and announce all of their placements too

Now that you mention, yeah super weird that they didn't do one of those "This season on the amazing race...."

Had to rest my head a little bit to regain myself,

Beautifully edited episode in general, everyone got their starring moments, did not feel like we were rushed for time, we got Pit Stop placements, unpredictability, hoping this is the exact consistency we get for the rest of the season! Chime in if you had a pleasant time at the premiere party! Time for more 90-minute workouts for me to keep up! Thanks for swinging by!

I'm dreading the eventual voting u-turn but I had a good time watching tonight. In early legs I like a set time (unless you're Todd) vs risk but possible reward detour options, always neat to see how teams decide

  • BIG MISTAKE
Bangkok looked stunning as always, and I love the way teams' backstories were edited in throughout the episode.
My only disappointment was the linearity of the Leg design, especially with the Spa Day Detour having 5 stations; the design could've been fixed with 3 or 4 spots to really hone in on the dilemma. That being said, I LOVED the risk aspect of the Detour- a blanket 30 minutes (45 if you're Todd & Ashlie) versus learning a variable routine.

Further, any balancing issues with the Detour were mollified by the fact that we even got a premiere Detour, plus the decision by production to dedicate airtime instead to traveling by longboat and tuk tuk through Bangkok made complete sense. I'd much rather sacrifice some competitiveness to showcase the travel aspect of the show, which has been sorely missed the past few years.

I haven't been this excited for TAR in a long time, and this premiere easily outclassed Survivor's.

Happy to have TAR back  :cheer:  However this leg turned out to be a disappointment to me  :groan:

1. TAR producers claimed they learnt answer-sharing kills suspense, yet right out of the gate the 1st task has answer sharing  :groan:
2. The locations in Bangkok were too similar to each other. Every single location visited other than the message shop was park or temple  :groan:  Can't we have something else for Bangkok?
3. The detour appeared to be a little bit loop-sided, which the spa side seems to be far easier than the other choice.

Yet, I am glad we have the extra 30 minutes of airtime such that we can hear teams more in depth. Even if for the 1st boot team, we heard them go into detail of their relationship, and how they deserved to be eliminated first  :funny:

I don't know I personally found this to be one of the most hilarious (and somewhat sad) race things I've ever witnessed and their editing was perfect on it. You had everyone overtly working together to talk it out and not even making an attempt to include Rob and Rob got it well before all of them.

On paper, this premiere LEG had a lot going for it: good physical/mental RB, self driving in LA, no more charter!, gross eating challenge, Detour on Leg 1 (last time there was a RB and Detour on Leg 1 was TAR 28 I believe?), TAXIS!, Tuk tuk, boats

Unfortunately, the EPISODE itself was okay as far as editing goes. They still have trouble explaining why certain teams fall behind, why certain teams jump ahead — too often they just cut to the next location. No suspense whatsoever. Way too many confessionals, it seriously takes you out of the episode
