Falkland Islands had no indigenous population, by the way. It was uninhabited. People wouldn’t just hop on a boat to an island in cold waters and cold weather lol.

bummer. it was gorgeous two years ago when I went with my British friends  :2hearts:

Hello designers! Just a little personal note about what I’m going to be taking into consideration when judging the legs this round.

You might think that the round theme is pretty basic- design a leg in South America and make sure to have an indigenous-themed task. However, I encourage you to think about that item much more than just a box to check off. As evidenced by the name of the round, highlighting the indigenous cultures of South America was the genesis for creating this entire round theme- not just a continent-based idea.

Thus, the requirement and the theme should be applied with more than just a few minutes’ research. I advise investigating your selected country, region, and indigenous culture more than just scratching the surface.

Unlike perhaps some requirements in previous rounds, I’m not going to be looking at your indigenous task requirement in a yes/no, pass/fail sort of way. Simply placing any generic indigenous-related task is not clearing the bar, it is doing the minimum. I’m looking at how, not if, you choose to incorporate this into your design. A well thought out, well planned, respectful task will go a lot farther and will gain more acclaim from me than a leg with an indigenous task tacked on as if it was an afterthought.

Now, this is not an invitation to flood your leg with indigenous tasks; after all, quality is better than quantity, and I would rather see the theme done right than overdone for the sake of doing it. That said, if you want to create a leg with multiple indigenous tasks or locations, you are allowed to do so- one does not have to be the maximum if you don’t want it to be.

My tips for scoring well on your indigeous task this leg is to do a lot of research, describe the people involved reverently, and thoroughly explain your reasons for why you chose to feature that culture and that task. Provide contextual reasoning of why the gist of the task is important to the indigenous group, and make sure to present any necessary details regarding the logistics of the task. If you do a good job with that, you should have no problem getting a good mark from me when it comes to the scoring.

I know that you, the designers, will treat us to a lot of new horizons in terms of South American legs. I’m excited to see your work this round, and I hope to learn something new after reading the legs. Congratulations for making the Elite 8, and all the best for the rest of the competition!

Hello guys! Cocoa here... tiptoeing in and out of RFF!
It has been a long time since I last participated (under any role) in TAR: DC... it feels great to be back again!

Eragon and I have recently designed an entire racecourse focused only on South America, that is why we are stoked in judging your South American leg designs.

Personally, I am not going to be super strict on the minute details (e.g. money, transpo on how to get there, logistics, etc). To be honest, it would feel weird and out of place if we try to iron out the logistics in today's new normal. Relax. Instead, I want to focus on IDEAS. On how these tasks stand-out and make the best out of the environment/locale you are in. I want to focus on how you pitch those ideas to us. Make me imagine your work to the actual show itself.

Also, I will be fact-checking your work and research myself if they are what you claim them to be. Please help us by providing links to related information that you will use in your design.

Good luck! :hearts:

I was about to say this. Haha. Me and Cocoa just hosted a race recently across Latin America and we definitely enjoyed our time designing.

I also won't focus much on the logistics, but instead will judge you based on your creativity. I wanna see task(s) that wasn't featured or rarely seen in the race. I think going to less known towns/cities would interest me more (will give extra points lol) just because it's something fresh to the eyes and I just love to expand my knowledge on Geography. Good luck!!  :2hearts: :2hearts:

PS. Thanks for the invite! It's cool to be back.  :conf: :luvya:

Long time no see, Eragon! How've you been?

Note: Trying to push through this round despite dealing with heartbreak in my life. So here's hoping I don't screw this up.
