So officially confirmed; for the first time since TAR28, they brought back the mid-leg 1 Overnight Rest that was prevalent from the older seasons of TAR1-TAR14! I love that. Wish we could have had an extended premiere just like the older seasons too though.

To add to Leg 1 speculation - you can infer that the difference is at least not significant enough that the team eliminated is from the first flight, which is good and definitely makes the otherwise imbalanced 7-4 team split feel fairer.

Also, if you checked footage of the first Roadblock from the team bios, and assume that the Roadblock is the task before the Pit Stop (I think it is - Leo & Alana are seen running off a beach area with a clue in their swimsuits when they did the goat racing in swimsuits as well), then we can have a potential fully spoiled placement slate.... going off promos alone and team bio footage, which is kind of funny to me.

My spec: (all built off like 3 seconds of flashing footage each and checking the background)
1st-4th: Any combination of Will & James/Riley & Maddison (seen together at the RB), Hung & Chee (only seen alone), and Victoria & Michelle (only seen alone)
5th: Eswar & Aparna (you can see them celebrating while seeing the other teams in the background, none of the first four)
6th-8th: Any combo of DeAngelo & Gary/Leo & Alana/Haley & Kaylynn
9th: Lavonne & Kellie (there's shots of them looking worried with only Cody & Nathan/Jerry & Frank seen)
10th: Jerry & Frank
Last: Cody & Nathan (Jerry & Frank are shown reading a Route Info clue post-RB and you can see a camera crew still filming a team behind them)

Should be an interesting premiere to watch. I'd be surprised if our Top 3 was also the Top 3 for Leg 1. Would be the third TARUS season in a row where that happened... and both the 2nd placers on Leg 1 (Cody & Jessica/Colin & Christie) ended up winning the Race, with the Leg 1 winners eventually finishing in 3rd and the 3rd placer on Leg 1 finishing 2nd.

Interesting that we don't see any U-Turn yet in the spoiler stuffs. Might be replaced by yield for this season?
what might have been

The top 5 teams were all on the first flight so that helped. But the other two were the bottom two teams so they really messed up that roadblock lol

The Yield seems to be some new variation of the Yield. But no sense of any kind of U-Turn.

Is that shot of Frank saying 'damn it' on what looks like the Amazon River, not indicate he and Jerry make leg 3? And the shot of Kellie and Lavonne looking a bit tense running to the pitstop in Bogota with the lipstick on etc from the circus task, indicate they go next leg? Or is that river in Colombia?

One thing I'm curious about from the first episode that doesn't make much sense to me is the timeline between the starting line departure in Los Angeles and the arrival at night in Trinidad & Tobago.

According to the episode at least, all the teams arrived to Piarco International Airport at 9:00pm. But how is that possible when in Los Angeles it was a nighttime start too? The earliest the sun would be set during that time of year in LA is after 5:00pm. In the timezone Trinidad & Tobago is in, it would ALREADY be 8:00pm there by the time the race started, making it literally impossible to fly all the way there in under 1 hour.

So either two things are possible: the graphic in the episode of them arriving at 9:00pm is incorrect (and they instead arrived very late at night/very early in the morning). Or it literally took them 24 hours to arrive in Trindad & Tobago.

Does anyone have any insight into this or theories on what actually happened?

EDIT: Also a seperate question, in the spoiler summary timeline page, it says there were two flights the teams took from LAX to Trinidad and Tobago. UA1815 LAX-IAH 0557-1055 and UA1457 IAH-POS 1455-2207. Is that accurate because, if so, we also saw none of that in the episode?

We have the flights in the timeline. They started at night, flew out the following morning to Houston for a connection and then onto Trinidad arriving at night time.

This is so disappointing on CBS' behalf. Defs looks like Frank in Manaus

Per spoilers, which can be mentioned as episode has aired, the teams took connecting flights from LAX to Port of Spain. We don’t know what time they left the Hollywood Bowl, but all the teams had taxis. Flights left LAX at 6 am and connected with arrival after 8pm local time. That still leaves time for passport and customs before leaving the POS airport.

As far as I know, I’ve seen no reason to doubt there being two flights for each leg of the connecting flight. We might have to ask Racers after the finale airs.

Thanks for the replies! According to the timeline though, and now knowing leg 1 was a no-rest leg, that means it looks like they were racing for 5 days in a row with no "official" rest period!!

Press photos show two tasks - a Roadblock that involves rolling around in a spherical thing and balancing a wine bottle and glass while walking on a tightrope and an Active Route Info (or Detour where everyone chooses one side) that involves decorating the inside and outside of a truck.

Tasks seem underwhelming (especially Active Route Info - why are we going all the way to stunning Bogota to decorate a truck?!) and potentially having no Detour yet is disappointing...

Interesting that the episode description confirms a Yield. I guess that they really are going WAY back to TAR5 and having a Yield on every leg!

In their episode one recap on their YouTube channel, Will and James offered the following about getting from the Hollywood Bowl to Port of Spain airport.
Their taxi wouldn’t start they had to wait for a replacement.
Teams left the Hollywood Bowl after 11pm. All teams were on the same flights. There was a layover in Houston. (My guess is the second flight involved production.) Teams did socialize at the airports, both LAX, but mostly waiting for the flights to Tobago.
There’s other things, but you might just want to watch the video.

Remember too that night there tons of fires in the area. A very big deal..

Phil filmed earlier at the Hollywood Sign.

Lol. I was on standby by for a flight to LA and didn't get on. If I had, I would have headed right into trouble!

Someone upstairs was watching out for the stupid ones like me!

Anyone noticed how the first group of 5 was our final 5?  :groan:
I hope this means that there won't be a big alliance with these 5 helping each other leading to the other 4 teams being eliminated one by one because of it. I guess we will see next week with the double U-Turn.

Also I loled when the blond sisters said: we love #8! Knowing they will most probably be last in Paraguay (be team #8), I hope they are team #8 again next week!

Woah, was leg 2 ALSO a Keep-on-Racing leg?? On the CBS press express website, they show Phil giving out clues to the teams while they're on the mat in Colombia. Was this edited out or what is that??

I did notice Phil looking like he was going to grab something from his pocket at one point  during the episode (forgot which team’s pit stop) but I shrugged it off at the time.

Dang, that's crazy. Two no-rest legs in a row? Have they ever done that before?

I wonder why they edited that out?

NO WAY!!! Wow 2 No-Rest Legs with eliminations in a row and in the first two legs!! Crazy! The only time I thought of having two No-Rest Legs in a row was for Season 10 of my Amazing Race. The first No-Rest Leg would be a non-eliminated then the second (which is the next leg after the first one) would be an elimination.

OMG that's crazy. Is it why Phil said it was the hardest race to film?

"Proof" that you can edit an episode to have the qualities of cohesive placement results for teams while still accounting for a Pit Nonstop. Not sure what happened with that for the premiere. I can definitely see this happening for the rest of the race though. Just continuous traveling.

How are they going to edit the beginning of next week's episode if it's a KOR and they didn't show it?

i did notice a team running away from the pitstop one of last 2-3 teams when one of the teams was coming in so i do think it's possible.
