Asia's not unsafe, but a lot of areas are affected by Middle East Respiratory Syndrome-Corona Virus (MERS-COV).

Countries in or near the Arabian Peninsula with MERS cases: Iran, Jordan, Kuwait, Lebanon, Oman, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, United Arab Emirates (UAE), and Yemen.

Countries with travel-associated MERS cases: Algeria, Austria, China, Egypt, France, Germany, Greece, Italy, Malaysia, Netherlands, Philippines, Republic of Korea, Tunisia, Turkey, United Kingdom (UK), and United States of America (USA).

There's a MERS virus outbreak in South Korea, and probably the Middle East. Japan, Malaysia, Nepal were devastated by an earthquake. There's tension in the Philippines, particularly in the Mindanao region. Idk about the other countries tho. Praying for Asia.

Going to Cambodia would be slightly weird because Survivor is currently filming there. I guess Vietnam would be ok (if they can avoid the slight controversy that arose from their last visit)

Guys, I dont think that this MERS outbreak is such a big issue for filming. Just check this map http://www.healthmap.org/MERS/ Currently there are more infected people in France, Germany or UK than in Thailand, Cambodia, Laos or most parts of India/China. :-)

I think it's planned to start filming this season just a little bit later. :-)

I think it's planned to start filming this season just a little bit later. :-)

True, but those places are still infected, which means that there is still a possibility that the production crew/racers themselves will get MERS. I don't think they would want to take that risk.

To be honest,only one person in China mainland got MERS and already got separated,I think only east Asia country will be ruled out by MERS is South Korea...

I have checked how 2009 flu pandemic affected destinations of TAR 15 a and I found no circumspection there. There were many cases of outbreak or even death in Netherlands, Sweden, UAE etc. during the filming or at the time immediately preceding filming of TAR 15.

We just have to be patient. ;-)

Yep, I agree that's probably what the holdup is. Thanks to MERS, they're scrambling to come up with replacement legs.

Which means another 24-style route

The last thing this show needs with viewership numbers teetering on the cancellation danger-zone.

I think the hold up more has to do with the fact TAR27 wasn't actually renewed for a fall season until last month. And I also prefer people calm down with reading into everything.

Casting started before renewal. Route should have been planned too.

I do agree with the fact production is delayed by the MERS virus. The crew wants to keep contestants and all of production safe so rerouting would be the best option. Just hope its not a 24 styled route again.

A start and finish in Canada would make a groundbreaking, unique season. The U.S. is also in the MERS-associated list, so why not?

I'm not buying it either. The guy is a huge Joey Graceffa so he's probably watched TAR. He was posting numerous all CAPS semi-hysterical tweets on a variety of subjects for a few hours now. Screamed about lightning. Checked weather radar and thunderstorms look like they are south of Chicago in Indiana. I can't completely rule out his seeing a thunderstorm at Midway airport but I don't think it was all that strong. He was also complaining about his flight being delayed. I think he was just bored and tweeting nonsense to amuse himself.

I monitored twitter all day and go away for an hour or so and suddenly things get interesting. Go figure.
