This just screams something like a celebrity edition or more returning racers - it just doesn't make sense that they would invite people to the Starting Line just to cheer on teams they have never met before

If it IS a returning racer season, then I hope we at least get the route and the returnees we deserve. :P

I don't think it will be a celebrity or returning racer edition. I think they(production) know that TAR has a sizeable die hard fan base that will come out at 3 in the morning for a special TAR starting line. I am estimating that we will see about 2,000-3,000 people at the starting line.

Well, even if it's teams of unknowns, we'll have tons of pictures floating around for identification purposes.

I think you may be right. There's something odd going on with this advance publicity for the start of the race. Maybe it is a celebrity edition. Maybe the move to Friday has the production team concerned and they are trying to generate some buzz and publicity for the show. Maybe it's both.

"Hey I was at Times Square and saw TAR 25! Taylor Swift, Brad Pitt and Kobe Bryant are racing! Bill Murray and Bopper are a team!"

Well, you get the idea.  :iok

Maybe they lied, and starting line posted here may be used to decoy fans to prevent spoilers? And to make sure this isn't fake, one of spoiler hunters has to be somewhere, expecting the worst. And also others, in Times Square. If THIS IS REAL, why they announce starting line location and date?

The first race started at Bethesda Fountain in Central Park. They could be starting there while the public watches on the big screen at Times Square.

Then they could fly from Kennedy to Zambia, then Zambia to France, France to Tunisia, then to Italy and India...

Well, maybe that's unlikely.

I could already imagine seeing my fave music duo.

There is a possibility of TAR25 being Celebrity Edition, but I think the suspicious and unusual things happening recently has something to do with TAR celebrating its 25th season.

Not too sure where to post this as its more a suggestion than a change, but I'll put it here anyway.

I wouldn't mind seeing a Night Time start line.  This has never been done before and could work out great.

Here's my thought.... Phil has all the teams at the Start Line, maybe there's a river or lake behind them with the reflection of the moon or a city scape?
Anyway, Phil says Go, and the teams run for their bags, with fireworks going off behind them, maybe at the far side of the river. (Again, something different that would look cool)   :colors

To benefit a Night start line, there could be an ARI, NOT a Start Line Task, but more like the one in TAR Aus 2, then after that, they head off to the airport.

Now, I was also thinking, by having the teams fly out of the US at night, it would mean there'll be a chance they'll land at their destination at night, and this could cause a sort of domino affect, resulting in a higher number of night legs.  ???

Although, CBS seem to LOVE having teams wait until sunrise, or for a building to open, before they receive their next clue, so this whole idea could just be pointless.   :funny:

But I'd still Love to see this non-the-less.  :)

Quoted from Changes Viewers Would Like To See Thread.

I think someone from TAR is looking at that thread, because right now, they're doing at least the night time. Unless it's pure coincidence that is. ???

Holy Cow!!!! I totally forgot I even posted that!!!
I would be sooooooooo happy if that was the post to convince them to do a Night Leg.  :bounce

And Phil has said quite a few times that producers constantly look at the fans comments to get ideas.  Maybe he was talking about more than just the Facebook and Twitter pages.   :wohoo:

Well, I remember Bertram and Elise making references to the RFF in one interview from last year.  ;)

Anywhoooo, I'm just gonna pretend that it was my comment that persuaded them to do a night start line... Just to make myself feel good for a while!    :yess:

I had hoped that they'd use Bethesda Fountain again for years, and thought the 10th anniversary season would have been the opportunity.

I have no doubt there's a twist of some kind there somewhere, but whether its a start in the middle of Times Square, or something else using the big screens around there showing a start, I haven't a clue. Just there being an announcement like this is unusual enough.

I noticed the last few days on Twitter that Phil was actually responding to people asking him when the next race starts. He'd never done that before, so I figured something was different about this season.

Surely he wouldn't be allowed to otherwise, of course.

All you guys guessing another all stars or a celebrity edition, pretty sure they would have a. promoted that at the end of 24 and b. noticed that this all stars didn't do that great and wouldn't want to try that again. I also thought I read Phil said something along the lines of "new faces, new places." There doing this probably because they know they just got moved to Friday and need to generate buzz for their 25th season. And I guarantee you the Starting Line is in Times Square. They aren't going to tell everyone to come to TImes Square expecting to send off the teams only to see them on a big screen. What's that gonna do? Be happy they are actually doing something different for once.

I live in NYC and the starting line is just a 30 minute subway ride away for me, but I'm not sure if my mom will let me go to Times Square at 3 AM XD
EDIT: I am going!!!  :conf:  :yess:
In the off-chance that my mom lets me go, I will take pictures!!! :P

It's very confusing though as the caption in the News Section of the CBS website says "The 25th season of The Amazing Race starts this Sunday, June 1 at 3am EST in Times Square in New York City"
But the news story itself, and the tweet says "The 25th season of The Amazing Race starts this Saturday, May 31st at 3am EST in Times Square in New York City"

PS: What if they had a cheap season 24... so that they can have a bigger budget for TAR 25?

OK, I've tweeted Phil about the time and date confusion. He's not very busy these days, so I expect he'll answer me shortly.

Also, Luke is thinking about being there. He tweeted Phil to ask if it's OK for former racers to be there and help support the teams.
