My sister called me from Missouri and was so sad Syesha left she really liked her and said the same thing about David A that we have been saying.  It's funny even my morning news, yet again, said they totally got it wrong and the final two should be David Cook and Syesha. I won't be surprised if David A wins and they don't even count the votes!

But on a side note here in sunny so cal Jordin Sparks is on our radio all the time with her Tattoo song and now a new one (can't remember it) and on  XM radio top 20 and kiss stations she's on a lot.  And even though he wasn't a AI winner Daughtry is on the radio all the time too.  And he sells out stadiums everywhere.  And another well known AI not winner is Jennifer Hudson.  Oh and Clay Aiken isn't he doing Broadway?   But I think Cook will be another Daughtry and do just fine.   ;)

And yes, Simon's face was a classic moment when Fantasia was singing and dancing (was that what you call it)

yep! here in houston, tx i just heard the other day Jordon on the radio [mainstream] with the song tattoo! sounds pretty good, BUT it took her alot longer than carrie or kelly [and it hasnt sold millions] and it isnt a # 1 single yet , it could be we just got to wait and see] she will be 19 soon [maybe that has helped her some] and i dont know if you seen a picture of her but WOW! she is thin now! and they got her dressed all vamped out!

she looks great! i know cook will sell millions like Chris D..cuz he is mainstream rock! he is very much the sound of today's music! i also think DA will be big in TV [like a sitcom] i still dont think if he wins idol he will sell millions on his cd's i dont know what he is??? pop? ballards?? folk??? i dont know what he would or could put out!...

all i know is AI needs another BIG WINNER! it is time....AI has got to be sick of the past winners not selling for them [i know i would be] it seems like the ones that come in second make it bigger, that is b/cuz really the vote in those cases were so close, and clay should have won over Ruben...now Carrie is a superstar! i knew she would be! i knew carrie would make it BIG TIME in mainstream country! i started out voting for Bo cuz i wanted him in the finale, BUT i did vote for carrie when it came down to her and Bo, cuz i knew and wanted the one that won the AI title to make it big also..

that is why i got to vote for cook! i would be ashame if i was AI that millions of votes came in for a idol to win just to have the WRONG idol take the title...cook has already said he wants this! and clive davis put out a statment saying if cook does win, he will get more FREEDOM than any other idol in the past, just like Chris D got!...its about time AI producers a cd that fits the winner, and NOT want they think the winner should sing![i guess they have learned thier lesson on letting these people do what music they want to do, and its about time]

so if cook does win, 19 records will put out what is mainstream for cook! look for what kind of org song is written for the finale, if it is a slow boring song than AI wants DA to win this! that is ALWAYS a dead give away on who AI wants to win, they will write the org song to fit who they want to win, hahahahah! want if AI did that and cook rocked it out and blew the house down! i think it could happen have you guys heard what L Richie said about Cook singing Hello! [Richie said i am releasing that song TODAY! with Cook..and only cook doing the song!Richie went on to say that song is a rockin HIT! thats  when cook had me at HELLO! lol.. i hope he does it on the finale that one or bille jean! as his fav song from the show, the final 2 get to do a song that was thier best..that they sung during the 11 weeks, on the finale! plus the one that AI written for the org! if he goes back to Hello that has been awhile and boy did Cook rock that song! :jam:

SIDE NOTE: PLEASE MAKE COOK THE NEXT REAL AI VOTE VOTE VOTE COOK! :jam:

Idol Oddsmakers Dish On the Davids

Michael Becker / FOX
If you've got some Benjamins riding on a David, be warned: Only one of them is Cooking. At least according to the bookies.

The online oddsmakers at BetCRIS.com have unveiled the favorite to take the American Idol crown...let's just say Papa Archuleta may have to be restrained.

Former bartender and Missouri's favorite rocking son David Cook is the odds-on pick to succeed Jordin Sparks during next week's finale, given a 74 percent chance of winning the whole shebang, per the online bookies.

Despite starting the season as the overwhelming favorite, tween dream David Archuleta has just a 32 percent possibility of becoming Simon Cowell's newest protégé, per the betting line.

Of course, last we checked, Gambling 101 was not a part of a grade-schooler's course load, meaning the actual voting demographic might not jibe with the oddsmaker's pick and it still could be anybody's contest.

.... an interesting article about Simon Cowell on American Idol

According to Cowell, the entire ‘‘Idol’’ concept needs a major overhaul. ‘‘The whole thing needs to be blown up,’’ Cowell reportedly has told staff members.

‘‘And if he had his druthers, and there weren’t all kinds of tightly-written contracts, Simon would love to see Paula Abdul, Ryan Seacrest and even Randy Jackson replaced by fresh talent,’’ said a longtime ‘‘Idol’’ production exec, who asked not to be named, since that person was not authorized to speak for the show.

‘‘We need to come up a new way to find contestants, as well,’’ Cowell is quoted as saying at a recent staff meeting. ‘‘Everything we do needs to be examined ... including the sets, the audition process, the choice of musical genres for the final weeks of competition and even how we handle the audience [for the live performances] and say goodbye to the people eliminated,’’ said Cowell.

While ‘‘American Idol,’’ is still very popular, it has seen a significant drop-off in ratings this season  leading Cowell and other ‘‘Idol’’ honchos to begin thinking of ways to re-invigorate their very valuable franchise. Reportedly, Cowell has also raised the idea of bringing in a secondary and female  ‘‘host’’ to work with Seacrest  similar to how ‘‘Dancing with the Stars’’ uses Samantha Harris to compliment Tom Bergeron.

Whatever happens, my ‘‘American Idol’’ sources say next season will see some major changes  ‘‘to give us a new lease on life,’’ said one insider.

.... an intersting article Simon wants Cook to win

From the looks of disgust on Simon Cowell's face this season, it might seem like he despises each of the American Idol contestants with equal vigor. Not true! As Blender has learned, Simon despises one contestant less than the others.

Who do you think deserves to win this season? we asked Simon. "Probably David Cook," he drawled. "I think he's done more to deserve it over the eleven weeks. He's taken more risks, he's done things with certain songs that have been more interesting. If I'm gonna base it on who has done the best performances over the live shows, David Cook deserves to win."

Of course it's also true that Simon is coaching Cook this week, which means he'll sing "The First Time Ever I Saw Your Face," a ballad also recorded by Cowell's chart-topping X Factor discovery, Leona Lewis. "I love that song! David Cook didn't even know what it was," Cowell snorted.

For an obnox — uh, opinionated guy like Simon, nothing is more ruinous to good television than boring contestants. He was clearly not pleased with Jason Castro ("He just gave up — I get frustrated over that"). "There was a classic moment last week," Cowell continues unhappily. "We had these callers phone in and I forget what the question was — 'What do you like?' — and they just sat there. They couldn't talk. It was literally un-be-liev-able."

Is it because they're all working to ingratiate themselves with voters? "Of course! It's like they've studied the show and they don't want to put a foot wrong. And that's going to have to change, going forward. I want what I call gobby, talkative people on the show."

So, next season of Idol: gobby, talkative singers. We won't say which contestant Simon finds the most boring, but we will mention this: When told that his Blender interviewer bears a resemblance to David Archuleta, Cowell roared, "I would think you have a bit more personality than he does."

.... a cute article about Cook

"American Idol" finalist David Cook has a lot of fans cheering him on, including his 2001 prom date.

"At the time, I was just excited to be asked," Molly Hastings told MyFOXKC.com. "I was just a sophomore so it was great to be asked by a senior, and he was my friend. So I went, and now it's definitely — it's exciting now, too."

Hastings, now a sixth-grade English teacher at a middle school in their hometown, said she is constantly answering questions about her prom date, who has shot to stardom nearly overnight since appearing on the show.

"They are always asking me if I still keep in touch with him, and I haven't talked to him in probably five years," Hastings told MyFOXKC.com.

That all changed last week when Cook visited his hometown and was treated to a parade, in which Hastings was asked to be a driver.

"I got to talk to him really briefly when he was driving by in his limousine," Hastings said. "He goes, 'What's up, Molly?' And I just yelled, 'You're a big star.'"

Cook responded that it was weird, Hastings said. She called it "a neat moment."

.... an interesting article on American Idol

Never mind the 10% drop this season in the average audience for American Idol.
Executives at the collection of disparate businesses around Fox's hit talent show are singing a happy tune as they head toward its finale this week.

A boost in airtime this season and the addition of iTunes as a fourth core sponsor (with Coca-Cola, AT&T and Ford) have helped to make the business "stronger than it has ever been," says Robert F.X. Sillerman, chief executive of CKX, the firm that co-owns the franchise with FremantleMedia.

His company is the best proxy for the health of what might be called Idol Inc.: CKX subsidiary 19 Entertainment — run by Idol creator Simon Fuller — collects license fees from Fox, signs recording deals with the winner and any other top-50 contestant it wants, manages their careers, handles the annual summer concert tour and licenses the brand.

CKX reported last week that its Idol-related operating income in the first quarter rose 63%, vs. the same period last year, to $24 million on revenue of $28.8 million, up 42%.

The main reason for the increase: Fox ordered 53 hours of Idol, up four hours from 2007. Although that's "a great business decision for Fox," Sillerman says, it may have diluted ratings for each show.

Next year will be different. CKX must agree to any network order beyond 45 hours, and Sillerman says, "You'll see slightly fewer (hours). We don't want to overexpose it. We want the pent-up excitement."

Ratings also may have been hurt by the absence of drama, apart from the competition itself.

"There was no controversy about why is somebody in this competition or deep background stories about them," he says.

Sillerman says he's "sure" that his company will sign record deals with semifinalists David Archuleta and David Cook — and may pick up others.

"There's a thought that there may be a (Chris) Daughtry lurking in the weeds in this year's crop, someone who was voted off a little bit early who might have some value."

That would add to an already strong recording business, a partnership with Sony BMG Entertainment. The first album by last year's winner, Jordin Sparks, is No. 23 on Billboard magazine's chart. And after 76 weeks, Daughtry's debut is No. 29.

Carrie Underwood, the 2005 winner, is still hot: All of her singles have gone to No. 1, and a few more are expected this year from her latest album, Carnival Ride, says Iain Pirie, who runs 19 Recordings U.S.

Although music-release schedules frequently change, he says that this year could see new albums from Kelly Clarkson and Ruben Studdard, Idol's first two winners, 2004 winner Fantasia, and finalists Daughtry and Kellie Pickler.

Producers already know the sales potential of the latest contestants. This year iTunes began to sell downloads of studio and live versions of the weekly performances. Sales figures are secret, but "What you'd find is that three or four of the songs in the iTunes' top 10 each week (of the Idol season) would have been from the show," Pirie says.

ITunes also was a big presence on Idol. It was shown or mentioned 44 times through May 6, according to Nielsen Product Placement Service. That made it the show's fifth-biggest product placement after Coca-Cola (2,716 appearances or mentions), AT&T (399), Idol's website (89) and Ford cars and trucks (69).

All told, the program had 4,184 product placements, up 4% vs. the same period in 2007.

Additional sponsors, still undisclosed, also will appear with Kellogg's Pop-Tarts at this year's American Idols Live concert tour.

Total revenue may drop: Ticket prices will hold (typically at $50 to $75 a seat), while the number of shows drops to 50 from last year's 56.

There are some sour notes elsewhere. For example, gift card company IdeaEdge recently took a $1.4 million write-down that it said in an earnings report was necessary because of disappointing sales of its Idol-branded gift cards.

Meanwhile americanidol.com attracted about 4.3 million unique visitors in March, down 41% from the same month in 2007, according to Nielsen Online.

Sill, Sillerman says, he projects at least 10% growth in each of his Idol businesses this year.

"Phone usage is up," he says. "Text usage is up. And for the finale, in New York, you'll see that it's the second-highest night of the year for takeout-food delivery (after the Super Bowl). If you're going to order out, get your order in soon."

(The article is too long to post, this is the most interesting part for me. Who knew he was a songwriter!)

'American Idol' Front-Runner David Cook's Former Bandmates Recall His Early Years

"I spoke to David while they were doing Hollywood week, and I told him to let me know when he's gonna hold
auditions for his band," Russell laughed. "People aren't getting the full vibe of him yet. They haven't heard his songs. He's a killer songwriter, and once people hear that, it's gonna be all over. I mean, he can rearrange songs and make 'em sound like stuff you'd hear being played on rock radio, but when people hear his own songs, they're minds are gonna be blown."

"I think now that flat out, he's got more stage experience than anyone else on that show — from '97 until 2005 we probably played 400 shows — and he knows what works up there onstage, and he knows what people will respond to," Kerr said. "He's honed his craft; he's a pro. David being on 'American Idol' is the oddest and coolest thing I've ever had to deal with in my life. I own every T-shirt, concert poster and demo Axium ever made, and I've got multiple copies of everything. I held onto all this stuff because I want to have something to show my kids someday. ... But now, who knows what could happen? One day, these things that I own could end up in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame or something."

I also didn't know Cook had theater training and was active in drama in high school.

Also a long interview so I attached the link:

His teachers from Blues Springs, Mo., have spilled the beans on how much the adolescent David loved to belt out those Broadway show tunes.

For evidence, get thee to YouTube, where you can watch clips of the teenage Cookie playing Riff in a high-school staging of "West Side Story" and taking pratfalls ("Make 'em laugh, make 'em laugh ... ") in a student version of "Singin' in the Rain."

... an interesting article: More than half of Idol's viewers are over the age 35

Those people still watching American Idol 7 are older than one might imagine: More than half of its viewers are over age 35, and David Archuleta’s presumed fan base, kids ages 2 to 17, are actually only 15 percent of the audience, Reuters reports, citing data from Nielsen.

That fits with previously reported data. This season has lost a significant number of women ages 18 to 34 and kids 2 to 11, and overall, is down to an average of 27 million viewers compared to 30 million last year. The slide stopped last week, though, as ratings rebounded slightly for the results show.

Nielsen also found that those who send text message votes do so an average of 38 times, and more of those voters are women. They did not track or survey those who vote via telephone, which would seem to be the more significant number, since that group is far less restricted (text voters have to be AT&T subscribers and pay for those messages).

Elsewhere in pre-American Idol finale coverage, today’s lesson in bad journalism—specifically how to pretend to write a journalistic story by assembling a thin group of sources to verify your beliefs rather than just writing what you think—comes from Associated Press writer Lynn Elber and her story about why show has been so boring despite its claims of talent. That’s a fairly interesting topic, but she fumbles it with thin reporting instead of just going for a full-on analytical commentary.

The first clue that something’s off are references to “some fans and observers,” and there’s also attribution such as “watchers say,” both of which are super-vague and sketchy. That’s confirmed when the story ends up citing just three sources to support its claims: “regular ‘Idol’ viewer Mike Anderson of Yakima, Wash,” “music industry analyst Bob Lefsetz (whose criticism doesn’t show up until the second-to-last paragraph), and fall-back source Dave Della Terza from Vote for the Worst, the site that’s funny and witty and sometimes breaks news, but has never managed to actually influence anything except the media’s perception of its influence.

It’s Mike Anderson and Dave Della Terza’s criticism that the story hangs on, because Lefsetz doesn’t show up until the end, and the three other people quoted in the story aren’t critics. They are Nigel Lythgoe, Taylor Hicks (who we’re told “remains upbeat about” the show despite how it, like, failed him), and Red Light Management’s Bruce Flohr, who’s identified as “an ‘Idol’ admirer” who doesn’t like the presence of fame-seekers.

So basically it’s Nigel Lythgoe versus Mike Anderson (who?!) and Dave Della Terza, who admits that he’s “sick of the show” and reports that his web site traffic has dropped in half since last season. That may be Elber’s most compelling piece of evidence, because when people stop caring enough to make fun of something, the target of their former scorn is in trouble.

hi ya! cc bb fan :-* how are you my friend :waves: yep! Cook said it during showtunes week with ALW.. when cook did music of the night, cook said he studyed musical theater as a young boy! this is why i think cook has so much control over his voice, the guy can nail low, middle and his high range, i watched idol extra the other night, they had one of the backup singer from AI on as a guest, she said cook just has IT! the guy can nail a song! the only thing she said about david A is that he is so cute i just want to hug him grrrrrrrrrrrrrrr :pull i am really getting sick of that..i dont want someone to win cuz people think of them as a cute little puppy dog! plus i think cook is very good looking he is a HOTTIE! but more important he has the talent to win this!

i just hope [us] the ones in thier 20's-60's yep! cook even has fans in thier 60's one lady in her 60's votes non-stop everyweek for cook, she wrote on the AI boards that those young kids voting for DA dont know who they are messing with, :funny: she went out and got 3 AT&T go phones to text, plus her landlines plus her cells so she can vote on ALL of them for 4 straight hours. to make cook the winner, if she can do it, i can do it! :yess:

thanks you guys for all the great info you are posting

(The article is too long to post, this is the most interesting part for me. Who knew he was a songwriter!)

This is exactly why I think they should add a round where the idols have to sing a song that they wrote themselves.  Even if they waited until the end and only had the top two do that, fine, and maybe they have them work with an experienced song writer if they want to.  But I think we should see what kind of songwriter they'll be.  That's the best indication of what to expect from their forthcoming albums.

... an interesting article:

'American Idol' producer promises "so many surprises" for season finale

As American Idol reaches its seventh-season crescendo this week, executive producer Nigel Lythgoe said there are several surprises in store.

"I'm not really allowed to say anything because we've called in so many surprises," said Lythgoe as a guest on Monday's broadcast of Idol host Ryan Seacrest's KIIS FM radio show.

Idol's seventh-season finale will kick-off tomorrow night with the Top 2 finalists -- David Archuleta and David Cook -- each performing three times during the live broadcast beginning at 8PM ET/PT.

"Clive Davis has actually chosen them a song.  He's the man with the golden ears.  He's chosen a couple of songs for them to sing.  I won't spoil the surprise of what he's chosen for them," said Lythgoe.

"[Archuleta and Cook have] actually chosen a song each from the Top 10 songs that have been voted for [online] and then they're doing another song that they've either sung during the series or something that they want to sing.  I can tell you now that David Archuleta is going to sing 'Imagine' again, which is fantastic."

Home viewers will vote for either Archuleta or Cook immediately following Tuesday night's episode, with the winner being revealed during Wednesday night's bloated two-hour live seventh-season finale.

"We have got probably the biggest star in the world right now coming on," teased Lythgoe.  "That's all I'm saying -- the biggest star in the world right now."

In addition, Lythgoe said producers also put together another performance via the wonder of technology.

"I've done another one of those videos, if you remember we did Celine Dion and Elvis Presley [during Idol Gives Back last spring]," said Lythgoe.  "I've done another one of those, which is absolutely fantastic... More than two [people] this time."

Lythgoe also hinted that Idol's seventh-season finale will feature some "young brothers" -- an apparent reference to the Jonas Brothers.

The finale will also feature other filler, including performances by Idol's Top 12 seventh-season finalists and each member of the Top 5 singing a duets with other musicians.

"Each one of them has their own little surprise in store for us," said Lythgoe.

hi ya! cc bb fan, :waves: i just read [may be a rumor] that cook is singing u2's still havent found what i'm looking for, he will NAIL that song.....i think clive picked this song for him , WTH... clive davis is supposed to not be doing anything for AI (:;)....but i guess AI changed it for him this year! i love u2 and i like that song, i just dont like Clive Davis lol......

this is another rumor or not, that i read about DA on his song imagine..that he is going to put in the verse he left out, [imagine there's no heaven, no hell below us, it's easy if you try...DA didnt want to sing that verse cuz he didnt want to cuz any bad waves about relgion etc etc!!!! i dont know if he will put that verse in there, all we know is he is singing it again!  this is NOT a RUMOR! Simon on Leno last night when asked who is going to win this. Simon said david lol! :funny: than he said no really david cook DESREVES to WIN!  :yess: i just hope cook is great tonight [i know he will be] and if he is i cant wait to hear Simon say.....DC you have done ENOUGH to WIN this! :yess: than it is voting like a crazy person  :wohoo: see you guys later! :waves:

UPDATE: it is NOT a rumor! Cook will sing u2's still havent found what i'm looking for , i just heard Nigel on the radio with ryan, saying that cook is singing this as one of his picks,

this year it goes like this

clive davis picks a song!

idol picks a song........one they have done or one they want to do....u2 has NEVER let AI do thier songs,,,but Bono said cook can sing his songs, so Bono said its ago! :yess:

than nigel said they were doing something different [we] get to vote online what top 10 song we want the idol to sing!

i dont know where the org song that AI writes for each idol will come in at????????

big star hmmmmmm.....with nigel that could mean robert downy jr lol :funny: but if it is really BIG it could be Sir paul himself.... or Bono!

they are going to do the duet thing again with [Elvis] Nigel said it will be afew songs, not just one this time! that was very cool last year i STILL have it on tape!

i just saw ELLEN and Simon said COOK SHOULD WIN!!!!!!!!!! ELLEN also WANTS COOK TO WIN!!! oh please i hope he does VOTE VOTE! for COOK!!!!! the next REAL AI! :wohoo: :wohoo:

side note some are saying why are the judges now saying cook should win, b/cuz they have been pimping DA to win, Simon said it ALL...Simon said it is b/cuz DA sounds the same everyweek, he has done nothing to prove he should be the next AI Simon went on to say, he thinks someone should know life, and have had to pay some dues ...he went on to say cook has done just that! DA said oh i'll just go back to high school, and put out a cd...come on, DA is way to young for this, he is NOT ready!...

i dont want to sound mean, but DA is not ready and sure does not to deserve to be the next AI! now the media just got awhole of a story saying that DA is sick, and his voice is not doing good, why oh why does Jeff DA'S dad have to keep this crap up! (:;) DA doesnt need the pitty vote,

jeff is so fearful that cook will win this! i think it would DESTROY DA to win ! his dad is to much, and NOT in a good way, i know jeff released this crap to the media so if DA does do the same ole same ole, people will think WOW! he did great, cuz he was sick! :groan: DA needs to wait until he is out of high school, and not a kid to get away from his dad, and get to know who he is as a singer, performer etc etc! i am tellin ya! i will be FREAKING OUT if COOK doesnt win this

I will be so upset with AI for pushing idols on people [i.e giving them more face TV time, back stories to push them as the next AI...they need to STOP IT! now they see it was COOK that should of had alot more promo, and back story that is why IMO AI needs to wait afew weeks and let us and them see just who is GREAT and who is NOT, before they start saying wow! you are the winner. i swear DA could pass gas and Randy would say BRAVO! WTH! is up with that??? i really cant believe Randy thinks this kid is the BOMB

sorry for the rant, but i dont get it, [at all] thanks for letting me vent.....i know i can always come here to just get it all out! :hugs:
