Previously on TAR, 12 teams continued their race on foot in Puerto Vallarta, Mexico! Kishori & Karishma and Michelle & Sean faced a huge mistake. Beach Boys got stumped at the Detour. The heat took its toll on the teams. Ricky & Cesar and Rod & Leticia battled for the lead ending in victory for the married. Meanwhile, Chris & Mary were eliminated. Remaining 11 teams headed out Guatape, Colombia. Leaving in 15 minute increments of 3 groups.

Phil talks about winning OneKey Cash, an Expedia-designed adventure visiting and partaking in authentic experiences featured on the app. Group 1 of Derek & Shelisa, Rod & Leticia, and Ricky & Cesar leave. ROUTE INFO: El Penon, climb more than 60 storeys.

Ricky & Cesar tell each other to slow down. Shelisa says her age is kicking in. "That's a lot of damn stairs." - Derek

Sigh... the group departures are back. One of the reasons why I wish they'd aired this season in order and got it out of the way.

We return to Group 1 still climbing. Ricky & Cesar talk about maintaining the advantage will lead to getting first. They say they are resourceful. Rod motivates Leticia to keep going. They are turtle-paced. Shelisa is already winded. "Almost there, almost there." - Derek

Ricky & Cesar grab the clue. DETOUR!
In Bandeja Paisa, teams must cook the dish and be judged by a trio of local abuelas. In Yipao, teams must properly pack a Willys Jeep with an arrangement of household items to receive their next clue. Both Detours require teams to ride a boat to their destinations.

Group 2 of Juan & Shane, Amber & Vinny, and Angie & Danny leave.

Angie & Danny recognize the physical challenges are going to be their weakness. Yvonne & Melissa also are shown going up.

(Ricky & Cesar and Rod & Leticia cook. All of Group 2 choose to cook too.)

Ricky & Cesar, Rod & Leti, and Derek & Shelisa all get into the long-span boats.

Last group of Sunny & Bizzy, Michelle & Sean, Anthony & Bailey, and Kishori & Karishma depart and go up El Penon. Sunny got an emergency call that her grandmother past away the day before this leg. "This leg's for grandma!" - Sunny

 

Michelle & Sean are saying comebacks are the best. Their fire is there. Sean is petrified of heights. Anthony & Bailey want to think a little more this time.

Sunny & Bizzy and Anthony & Bailey do the yipao loading. Michelle & Sean and Kishori & Karishma do the cooking task. Kishori & Karishma said the yipaos looked like too much.

Ricky & Cesar said to put it to the metal for their boat driver. Rod & Leticia enjoying some time together on the boat. Rod is the baker while Leticia is the chef. Derek & Shelisa can't imagine that they climbed that mountain.

Derek said Shelisa wanted to come onto the race because she had a cancer scare. She wants to represent retirees/cancer survivors. Meanwhile, Derek & Shelisa want to pass Rod & Leticia! "We do not come in second!"- Rod.

Juan & Shane are in the boat. Juan was born in Colombia and talks about his childhood and recognizing his old country and sharing his roots. He is appreciative of sharing the experience with Shane and later with his wife and kid. Amber didn't know what Colombia was going to offer. She does not want to be last again. Vinny reiterates that they want to bring justice to their name.

Ricky & Cesar disembark in Guatape. They must find a station with a matching Zocalo. They start working on the sausages and rice.

Angie & Danny's boat is stuck in the water with an error. Meanwhile, Rod & Leticia and Derek & Shelisa arrive on the pier. Amber & Vinny catch up from just behind. Juan & Shane run past on the path to the cooks. Juan & Shane see more stairs. All four teams eventually find their station with their respective Zocalo.

Shane cuts the pit of the avocado in half.

Amber needs to know what a chicharron looks like.

"This is an arepa." - Vinny

Michelle & Sean switch to the yipao Detour on the way down the mountain. Angie & Danny STILL stalled out on the water. Sunny & Bizzy getting on the boat. Kishori & Karishma going down to the coast in a little bit of distress. Angie is getting nervous.

"Mas rapido! Mas rapido! Mas rapido!" - Bizzy

"Must be hard when other teams are passing." - Angie

We come back to Angie & Danny's boat still drinking the bottom of a glass. It's a Suzuki motor, of course. Kishori & Karishma passing them as Kishori blows them a kiss. The motor begins to work again. "Never doubted you for a minute. /side eye/" - Angie.

Kishori & Karishma learned to trust their gut and it's working. They feel they have a good time ahead of Beach Boys and Double Dutch. Sunny & Bizzy aware of their placement awkwardly. Michelle & Sean in the boat.

Shocked the twins didn't make it to the boats faster; their only real advantage is their comparative physicality but somehow they got lost in such a short distance.

Ricky & Cesar only need the chicharron element of the dish. Vinny is the chef of the group while Amber is letting him do all the harder work. Juan has his hands full while Shane burnt the arepas. Leticia's idea of cooking is throwing stuff in a pan. Derek & Shelisa arguing at their station.

Yvonne & Melissa arrive on the dock. They run to their bandejas paisa station. Shelisa uses eye measurement to cook at home as everyone should be doing. Amber is shocked by how much they have to make. Ricky & Cesar and Leticia know grandmas don't play about food.

Ricky & Cesar present their plates to the judges.

They pass! ROUTE INFO: El Coredero de Guatape and take a taxi to Casa Loma to find your next clue.

They see no one was close to finishing.

Beach Boys see they are dead last, but they're living it up on the boat. Michelle & Sean know they are losing excitedly.

Ricky & Cesar ask if their auto rickshaw can go to their desired destination. Sunny & Bizzy arrive on the pier followed by Angie & Danny and Kishori & Karishma. Angie and Danny argue about helping the cousins. Danny tunes Angie out. They end up working together to find the cooking stations. Sunny & Bizzy right behind.

Kishori is vegan and Karishma is vegetarian, therefore never cooked meat. They are chickens with their heads cut off in this situation. Kishori lets out a huge sigh.

We arrive back into Kishori & Karishma's cooking show where they see multiple meat items in shock. Kishori asks Derek & Shelisa want the different meats are. Derek & Shelisa say the cousins remind them of their kids. "Martha Stewart 3x" - Kishori in hopes she would appear.

Rod & Leticia still cooking in dysfunction. Shane too. Danny can't cook and can't fry an egg. Shelisa didn't make enough rice.

Michelle & Sean are going to the Willys. Beach Boys' legs are noodles now. They see the Jeeps and start doing the impossible task as Michelle describes. Michelle & Sean looked at it and it looked more difficult. "We shoulda cooked! What did we get ourselves into?" - Sean.

Teams still cooking. Bizzy says this is like firehouse cooking. Rod & Leticia going for it. Derek & Shelisa are doing alright now. Kishori & Karishma excited about cooking meat. Yvonne & Melissa say it's starting to rain.

Rod & Leticia are Gordon Ramsay'd out of here. They must fix their plate.

Derek & Shelisa are approved! They move up to 2nd, walking to the auto rickshaws. Juan wants to go with his gut. Rod & Leticia says presentation matters. Meanwhile, Anthony & Bailey say there was more strategy to the yipao than they thought. Their heads are hurting and want to switch. Michelle & Sean also contemplating about switching. The Beach Boys' brains are mush at this point.

"Maybe if we get into the kitchen, we can whip it out really quick." Famous last words, but they're switching. Michelle & Sean follow along as well.

Kishori & Karishma become a little neurotic with the meat.

Anthony & Bailey says the cooking seems worse than the yipao. Oh no.
