Production on Season 33 of The Amazing Race (US) has been halted by CBS due to concerns surrounding the coronavirus worldwide.

Three episodes had been filmed in England and Scotland thus far.

“Due to increased concerns and uncertainty regarding the coronavirus around the world, CBS and the producers of The Amazing Race have taken the precautionary measure of temporarily suspending production on the 33rd season of the series,” a CBS spokesperson told Variety.

“All contestants and production staff are in the process of returning home,” said the statement. “At this time, no Racers or anyone on the production team travelling with them have contracted the virus, or shown symptoms, and we are not aware of anyone being exposed to it. Out of an abundance of caution, everyone involved in the show will continue to be monitored when they return home. The health and well-being of the Racers and the production team are our top priorities.”

The upcoming Season 32 has already been completed and is unaffected.

The action by CBS raises questions around The Amazing Race Australia which is yet to begin production.

It isn’t clear how concerns will impact the Australian series, due to air later this year.

Producers Eureka Productions and 10 have been contacted for comment.

However, CBS remains hopeful that the 33rd iteration of The Amazing Race and the 41st season of Survivor will get back to safely enthralling reality fans soon.

“In terms of Survivor and The Amazing Race, we’ll get those into production as soon as we can safely get back into production. That’s going to be a little more complicated because we literally have to navigate some international waters,” CBS Entertainment President Kelly Kahl told Deadline.


The Amazing Race, whose 32nd season is in the can and being saved for later in the year, halted production on the next season in February, having only filmed three episodes of the series, produced by CBS TV Studios, Earthview, Jerry Bruckheimer Television and ABC Studios, in the UK.

“If we get back into production [on The Amazing Race], you can trust that we have plotted out all of the safe and smart ways of doing it. Some countries are more affected than others and these producers are some of the best in the business and they will plot out a race that sticks to countries that are safe,” added Kahl.

Meanwhile, Survivor postponed production in March on the day that the WHO declared COVID-19 a global pandemic.

The team, with exec producer and host Jeff Probst, had hoped to get back into production on season 41 in May with plans for a September premiere. However, this will now be pushed back.

Survivor is exec produced by Probst, Mark Burnett and Matt VanWagenen.

Rule out Argentina in South America. Borders are still closed,  with hundreds of citizens still waiting around the world for an opening to return.

This restriction is set to be lifted (or renewed) on October 1st. However, if borders are going to be open the only persons that are going to be allowed to enter will be the ones from the nations that shared border with Argentina so far.

Also Migrations is authorized to do exceptions to this restriction (foreigh sport teams have been entering and leaving the country since July last year respecting regulations that include being isolated the whole time spent in the territory while not competing) but I don't see TAR having one of those same exceptions.

But in case the miracle happens, currently any person arriving must present a negative PCR made on the previous 72 hours and being isolated during 7 days. Once the term is over it must be done another PCR: if it's negative, the person is allowed to circulate on the territory.

Update from Argentina:

Health Ministry has announced that starting on October 1st. borders will be gradually open. In the first phase and as it was expected, only people from the countries that share borders with the country will be allowed to enter and in limited numbers.

More about this:

Starting September 24th isolation won't be required to Argentine citizens and residents and foreigner citizens that must return/enter the country because of work (in the case of the foreiger citizens must be authorized by the Migratory authority).

Starting October 1st, it won't be mandatory to do the isolation period after entering the country for those coming for bordering countries.

Between October 1st. and November 1st. the number of persons allowed to enter the country will be progressively increased.

Starting November 1st. all foreigner citizens will be allowed to enter the country. However, there are some requiriments they'll have to follow:

- They will have to be fully vaccinated (two dosis) with a data for the second dosis of 14 days before arriving.
- Negative PCR test made 72 hours before travelling or antigens test to be made at the moment of arriving.
- A second PCR test made during the fifth to seventh day after entering the country.

The persons that want to travel here and have not completed the vaccination schedule MUST do an antigens test at the moment of entering the country, isolation for at least a whole week and a PCR test at the seventh day.

Is expected that once the fully vaccination schedule reaches 50 % of the population some of this requisites will be gradually lifted too.

I don’t think CNN was thinking of TAR in compiling that resource. Its value is in its comprehensiveness. Note both official and other links are included so you can get a better ides of what’s on the ground. Just imagine the obverse, traveling to the U.S., where you have yo look at each state.

You are absolutely right. Areas under Level 4 per travel advisories page under US Department of State that are not allowed to travel in certain parts of Asia such as Bangladesh and Malaysia.

Singapore is good that is placed under Level 2.

Corsica is covered by France, but if you dig through the official French government material, you’ll find the authorities in Corsica have its own procedures that is written only in French without a translation into English. Singapore is now under threat on Covid 19, as cases climbs up to 1,939 on 26th Sept, cases has been climbing for over a few weeks due to the Delta strain, furthurmore, Singapore has a compulsory 14 days Quarantine Order, unless you are from some selected countries.

Update from Argentina:

Two terrestrial crossings have been enabled to allow the entering of foreigners, one in the area of the Iguazú Falls via the Tancredo Neves bridge that connects with Foz do Iguaçu in Brazil and the other via the Los Libertadores International Crossing that connects with Chile. They will work as a pilot test for the upcoming openings that will start on October 1st.

Perfect example of why one needs to look at regions of a country in terms of Covid-19 travel restrictions. Those can be local, and can change overnight.
