It looks like the final memory challenge has the "Hello" and "Goodbye" we expected.  They have to raise banners with the correct "Hello" and "Goodbye" to match the country's flag flying at the top.

There is a US flag that may already have the banners in place as an example.

There is also a Mexican flag in the shot so that means that there are phony route countries in place to foil the Racers.   :lol3:

The location appears to match this Google Streetview:  Link

Everyone knows this location as the United Nations Building in New York City.  Note the flags reflecting in the windows at the bottom of the Streetview image.

Last night's episode AND last week's episode, the Pit Stop greeter said 'goodbye' to one of the teams in the country's respective language.
I don't know if producers have asked greeters to do this to make things more cultural, OR it could be a possible memory task for the final Leg ('goodbye' in every language of every country you visited on the racer), thoughts?

you heard it hear first ;)

Never mind the bit about the Mexican flag.  I see now that it is one of the regular flags flying in front of the UN   :groan:

I'm really impressed that BVM was able to get the proper permissions. IIRC only The Translator has received permits for filming on U.N. property; even Hitchcock had to film NxNW guerilla-style.

It's crazy!  They are set up in the vehicle drive through for the building:  where the limos go to drop off heads of state!

There is an 8 foot tall hedge that blocks the Racers from view by people on the street.  Folk in the offices across the street may have been able to see it if they looked out at the right time.  :waves:

The Australian version of Masterchef filmed the introduction for a team challenge (which featured most if not all of the UN ambassadors) inside the General Assembly Hall, with the judges behind the lectern.

The chateau that is shown "over the water" is unquestionably Chateau Chenonceau. It is perhaps the most majestic and beautiful of the Loire Valley chateaux.

Since there is a maze in the gardens of this chateau, that could be a potential task for the racers.

The chateau featured in the PREVIEW is Chateau Chenonceau. I rate it the most beautiful chateau in the Loire Valley. It has a garden on its grounds with a maze and that may provide a task for racers.

Yes, we already know it from the Ep. 1 extended preview:

Here's a pic of it, almost same angle.

I think Lexi has incorrectly put Tot Ziens and Zai Jian under the Bangladeshi flag. The words under the Chinese and Indonesian flags should also be wrong. Beekman will probably do better at this, but I'm not sure about the Chips.

I see that the lower one of the sign on the China flag is correct for Hello in Chinese "Ni Hao", but probably the one above is wrong since "Zai Jian" is Goodbye in Chinese, I think the producers may even make it harder if teams have to arrange Hello and Goodbye at top and down position precisely.

Consider the possibility that it is not Villandry you are looking at, but Chenonceau instead. The sign could be merely a poster advertising events in mid June at Villandry under a cooperative advertising effort.

I have looked at 48 photos of various parts of Chateau Villandry and have not seen anything that matches what is shown.

ummm....no, I wont.  We think TAR visited Chateau Villandry because the gardens are shown in the opening title sequence of every episode this season.  Ever think they went to more than one chateau?  Let's all wait while you dig up a picture of Chenonceau that matches the racers running.

Well they were spotted at three chateaus.......and Villandry was not one of them. The list of chateaus is in the Timeline. I am not saying they didn't go there.......but it isn't in the list.

Boingo,

For the proof you require, take a look at this from the screencaps and note Jaymes and James running on a path bordering the bank of the River Cher. It did not transfer from Re: TAR 21 Ep 11 (France) post #6 as expected, but you can see it there. Here is the information associated with it:

:cmaslol  so lets recap the major locations we all found in the France leg.....

in addition to the horse plowing and running through wine caves of the Loire Valley, we have a "Chateau bonanza".

Not one or even two chateau's were identified, but up to THREE.   :cmas9

Looking back at the Intro Cap thread and the Extended Ep. 1 Preview thread we can see the following:

Chateau Villandry (formal gardens), Loire Valley, France

Chenonceau Chateau, Loire Valley, France

Chapel of Saint-Hubert at Chateau d'Amboise, Loire Valley, France (Leonardo Da Vinci buried there)

Well it is the Loire Valley.... more chateau's than you can shake a stick at...   :cmas50

I'm bringing up this blog post again: fwiw, Cheverny seems to come after Amboise.

This is also the resting place of Leonardo da Vinci, who died in Amboise in 1519.  Here, we also had quite the experience, witnessing the taping of next season’s The Amazing Race!
Quote
As a popular hunting venue, Cheverny has about 100 hounds!!!! It felt like an optical illusion, but was definitely a sight to see! We also ran into our friends with the Amazing Race again, so this season, look for me strolling down the gravel pathway behind the sprinting contestants!

Cannot see the preview due to location restriction, but is the part with Beekmans in taxi belong to future legs? If so it doesn't seem like that was from Leg 11 since they were in different clothes in France.

The Chippendales look like they are running TO the Pit Stop, by the canal/river. Notice that they don't have their packs on? If they were running to a task location, I don't think they would leave their stuff unless they're going somewhere very nearby like last night's windmill Detour. Looks like they dropped off them on the way. :duno:

The Elipsos train that Boingo identified is on time...no surprises there.

Slowhatch,

Please read the Transportation thread re trains from Barcelona to the Loire Valley (Tours). It would be foolish to go all the way to Paris when teams can get off in Orleans and take a train from there to Tours. The precedent for this is AR1 in France  where smart teams took the shortcut to Les Baux.

Very stupid does NOT mean didn't happen.

The train, the station , and thanks to the large clock in the station and slowhatches info, The ARRIVAL TIME are all confirmed.

If you can show a train arriving at that exact time which supports your theory, please do!

It is pretty obvious that teams arrived in Tours from Paris. But why? As apskip pointed out, quicker would have been to exit the night train in Orleans and take a train to Tours.......maybe getting there ~2-3 hours earlier.

That might just be the rub. Production had a very busy day planned..........4 chateaus.....self-driving...the field for plowing........the speed bump.......that involves a lot of local crew for all the different places (sets). You really don't want them to be sitting around all day. That wastes production resources. We just saw what happened when teams get all spread out in Moscow and Amsterdam. If they keep the teams bunched, then racing is more exciting and the various "sets" can be assembled and disassembled in short order and local crew released.

They might have not even known they were going to Tours till they arrived in Paris. It is pretty simple to put a clue box in the Paris train station to tell them to go to Tours.

What ever the mystery is.......we will know pretty soon.

They are self-driving all this leg. Their "stuff" is probably in the trunk of their cars. There is no need to drag it out at every stop. I haven't seen any backpacks on any one, once they get to the their cars in the Loire Valley.

So much for a separate PREVIEW thread!

I have MERGED the PREVIEW THREAD into the FRANCE thread for now, will move things over to the FINALE/NYC thread as I can tonight.

The FINALE thread should be last leg/NYC info only please, let's keep all the FRANCE info in the ep 11 thread please.

That was easy, if you see the left side of the cap in the background, the bistro is there.

Seems like we do not see the Beekmans running out of the station with these 3 teams, is it possible that they took another train?

A couple of possibilities off the top of my head........

1) Josh has a bad ankle.......they might not be running at all.

2) Maybe they did take the short cut @ Orleans.

Looks like they were stopped to get directions.   :cmas16

I think our beagles are a speed bump..

Since the Teams are all going into the refrigerator at the kennel I suspect it is not a Speedbump.

The Twinnies are seen with their Speedbump sheet at Villandry.

For the Chips at their Ford, the mirrors don't look the same between the two cars.

Anybody noticed the different positions of the street tables between both pics?  Maybe on purpose to make a little more difficult finding the Avis?

Ok, here's a preliminary map of this leg:

We know from our summertime spoilers that Cheverny follows Amboise:

I'm bringing up this blog post again: fwiw, Cheverny seems to come after Amboise.
Quote
This is also the resting place of Leonardo da Vinci, who died in Amboise in 1519.  Here, we also had quite the experience, witnessing the taping of next season’s The Amazing Race!
Quote
As a popular hunting venue, Cheverny has about 100 hounds!!!! It felt like an optical illusion, but was definitely a sight to see! We also ran into our friends with the Amazing Race again, so this season, look for me strolling down the gravel pathway behind the sprinting contestants!

Chateau, the order is only for the purpose of locate the places in the map.  Anyway, Slowhatch is using the word "seems" in the post, so it's not a confirmation of the order.

That looks right (with the cave/wine cellar thrown in the middle somewhere and the plowfield either in the middle or starting the next leg). It would be nice to get more details from the lady blogger, but you take what you get.

The Amazing Race - Take Down that Million (Sneak Peek)

With the $1 million dollar prize on the line, the final four teams race through France en route to the finish line in New York City, where they'll encounter a terrifying Houdini-inspired Roadblock, during the two-hour season finale of The Amazing Race airing Sunday at 8/7c.

So, from the pictures, it seems like Palma -> Route Info: Chapelle Saint-Hubert, Château d'Amboise -> Detour: Château de Cheverny (and around)
with Château de Villandry (with Speed Bump and possibly the Roadblock) coming after the Detour

That's quite a distance from the Detour card to the task--a record, maybe? If the plowfield isn't just as far away (or the plowing a lot harder than dog food), it may turn out to be a lopsided choice.
It looks like they're having trouble finding the Fords at Tours: running one way, then the other.   :cmaslol

They seem to be running towards the Avis office. But Avis France does not list any Fords on options. I guess Production could have used the Avis car park to park the free Fords.

32 Rue Fabienne Landy, also in Tours.  (Next to Place de la Gere)

Anybody noticed the different positions of the street tables between both pics?  Maybe on purpose to make a little more difficult finding the Avis?

Yeap, the corner in your pic is in the other side of the block; so they're running torwards the one with the tables.

The Elipsos train that Boingo identified is on time...no surprises there.

Nice one on the bistro!

Slowhatch gets the Train Station.  :xmas49

That was easy, if you see the left side of the cap in the background, the bistro is there.

Seems like we do not see the Beekmans running out of the station with these 3 teams, is it possible that they took another train?

No.  They're all  toghether.

Throwing this out there... we've had no indication of a Roadblock for this leg.. is it possible we might not have one since we got an extra Roadblock in leg 1? or maybe we just arent getting anything in the previews  :cmas5

I think Twinnies screw their own chance by going to the wrong Detour. They were second but chose the harder, more complexing one. Too bad....

I do not know if this fits in this thread, but I just noted an interesting detail when re-watching the final.

When Josh & Brent leave the road block in France we see that the car parked next to theirs has a big sign on the windshield:

Twinnies completed the Speedbump and reached the Detour location before two other teams... I give them full credit for it but I just don't get why they decided not to join Trey and Lexi and do the same Detour...
