Peach, Te Puke is a mere 215 km from Auckland, so they don't just zip over and back. That is at least 5 hours on the road going over and back given the limits on time. We know they cannot clear Auckland International Airport before 430am and that teams are supposed to get back soon after midnight, unless it is a TBC(which is distinctly possible). A 12 hour pitstop means teams must be released by about 10pm. That leaves between 430am and 10am to get to all tasks and then to Te Puke. With a 2.5 hour drive over, the chances of that are minimal in my opinion.

Are you saying you don't think they went there? ???

Because we know they do based on the CBS map:

Could that be Mt Taranaki in the background? Remember, I've never been to NZ.

From selwyn:
Quote
It was confirmed from very reliable industry sources, TAR was definitely in New Zealand (Auckland and Middle-North Island) - from April 31 to May 2 or 3. A race spoiler I got was that at least one team missed a bus or similar and arrived at a challenge a day behind other teams (well, the following morning anyhow) - I hear this because the local crew hired to do the POV pickup shots had to revisit the location that morning to get matched lighting conditions.

I do believe that they were on schedule in NZ (so based on the request for drivers, that was April 30th (NZST) to May 2nd, however I expect that at least part of the production crew arrived earlier

The word I heard from my source was that a team 'missed the bus' and didn't arrive somewhere (I got the impression is was a cluebox) until the morning after other teams (although no word on what time of day the other teams got there the previous day).

We also had this:

Quote
mez:
*Hi, this is completely unconfirmed and comes to me third hand but my mother was listening to a talk show on the radio yesterday here in NZ and there was a woman from Tauranga on who said that a reality show had been through there-well, the Tauranga-Mount Maunganui area (in the North Island, not far from Auckland). I asked my mother if the woman had said when and she said no but she got the impression listening that it was in the last month.

I took this to Vinnie & Carly

93.4 MORE FM TAURANGA  who have a morning call in show.

They did not recall any such call-in but on several occasions between 5/21 and 6/5 were kind enough to take this info to their listeners --but there was no response from anyone in their listening area who saw anything at all.

So based on that, I  think the teams may have done only the dawn task near Auckland , and possibly the FF at the Sky Tower, before moving on to the Te Puke area, where we know the Pitstop was.

There are MAPS! here: http://forum.realityfanforum.com/index.php/topic,15503.msg301645.html#msg301645

I didn't see anything speculated here about where the Maori warriors from the intro fit in.  Those are DEFINITELY New Zealand because I saw a show about them once :)
Maybe they're part of the dawn volcano task?  Or do we already know what that is??

Here ya go elopes

Phil interview:
•Q: You're also going back to your birthplace, New Zealand, the adventure capital of the world, for the third time. What new thrills can we expect to see?
•A: New Zealanders are very proud of their indigenous Maori culture, and we were looking to get something of that in the show. We ended up having the teams search for Maori warriors on an extinct volcano (near Auckland), and it was the most magical morning when they arrived: As the sun was rising, there were these warriors doing the haka (a traditional war dance) with a magnificent rainbow over the top of the hill.

Introflash's

Maybe someome has already posted some of this, but I do not recall so I am doing it:

www.kiwi360.com
Young Rd (PO Box 541), 5 minutes east of Te Puke, off SH 2, Te Puke
admin@kiwi360.com

Kiwi360 celebrates the New Zealand icon, the Kiwifruit. Visitors can experience a kiwifruit orchard tour on our unique kiwikarts, gaining an insight into the very special and unique conditions that enable production of the highest quality kiwifruit in the world. Visitors can enjoy superb café food in the courtyard café or shop for unique gifts and souvenirs in Western Bay of Plenty's largest tourist retail outlet.

puddin, no it cannot be Mt. Taranaki/Egmont seen from Te Puke. Mount Taranaki/Egmont is on the southwest corner of the North Island. It is about 250 km from Te Puke. There may be an initial "hunt for Maoris" on the slopes of the volcano in the Auckland area, but if teams finish as stated by CBS at Te Puke you can bet a lot of money on the proposition that they don't just go 250 km to Te Puke just so they can turn around and go back. That would be totally nonsensical.

The photo of the mountain presented by puddin earlier raises the question of which one. Here are the prominent mountains of the Bay of Plenty region:

Mount Maunganui, Mount Tarawera and Mount Edgecumbe/Putauaki, which also have cultural significance to local Māori. The Kaimai and Mamaku mountain ranges lie at the western border of the region.

On the question of whether any oen of them matches the photo puddin provided in post #29 in this thread, I can say that Mt. Manganui is shaped different and is only 230 meters high. Mt. Tarawera, which was the subject of the Fast Forward to Wil and Tara in AR2, does not look like the photo. Mt. Edgecumbe/Putuaki is the closest to a match and I only have one side view to go on. It is 820 meters high. However, Mt. Edgecumbe is about 50 km from Te Puke.

If Gulf Harbor is just a route info stop, would that mean the Detour is nearby (Match the Moko/Mash the Kiwifruit)? Peach has a bead on the local volcanoes.
