Would love to have the updates more accessible and easier to find this time around for anyone who stumbles in and not be confused by the 35/36 uno reverse-card saga. We get establishing shots of PUERTO VALLARTA! It's a highly regarded beach tourism town. All teams running onto Playa El Salado with someone nearly getting ran over. :funny: Michelle & Sean introduce themselves first as the Double Dutch masters. They would've killed the Detour in TAR27. Anthony & Bailey are self-proclaimed beach boys. Chris & Mary live in a 1-bedroom apartment. Amber & Vinny can put out their competition and wake up at the Finish Line.

Juan & Shane are best friends who live across the globe. Yvonne has a Mexican heritage and has an immediate advantage this leg. Rohan & Maya are aquatic instructors. Phil is excited for this cast. Just like last season, NO non-eliminations. Derek says they have to be on their A-game.

Ricky & Cesar have been dating for 4 years and met in Mexico. A lot of connections to Mexico already. Anthony wishes he didn't fail Spanish twice. Kishori is half-Mexican. Karishma lived with Kishori and have become sisters. Karishma's father had Hodgkin's lymphoma and mother had cancer, unfortunately no longer with us. Amber & Vinny and Michelle & Sean chatter. Amber knows "Southern". Danny is honored and blessed while Angie wants to watch Danny live his dream.

They are superfans of the race and prepared by studying different languages in school. Rohan is Maya's ride or die. Maya hopes she can get her nerves out driving in a different country. Juan says Spanish is not very beneficial since it's very hectic driving. Derek & Shelisa have their first fight getting to Malecon.

We see the flying performers and Ricky & Cesar find the site first! They are hurrying while Rod & Leticia are behind.

DETOUR: Pick 'Em Up or Put 'Em Down
In Pick 'Em Up, teams must pick up 2 rocking horses and transport them down the cobblestone streets to the Malecon. In Put It Down, teams must watch a 40 second fight sequence and match luchador fights by their masks to receive the next clue.

Derek & Shelisa pick up the Detour clue. Shelisa spills her bag outfits. :funny: Fun fact: she's the first female lieutenant of her police department and have been married for a long time.

We come back to Rohan hoping there's another team lost because they don't have a map. They did not want to put effort into buying one. "Anything can still happen." - Maya. Anthony & Bailey catch Ricky & Cesar going to the luchadores. We start with a stampede of these fighters rushing the ring. :lol: It's pure chaos.

Ricky & Cesar start deducing by main colors. Rod & Leticia find the luchadores as well.

Yvonne & Melissa arrive at the Detour clue in 4th and do the rocking horses. Anthony & Bailey can't find the clue and run to the Voladores. They think they have to climb up. :funny: It's always a sibling rivalry between them, but now they gotta work together.

They finally get to the Detour clue and do the rocking horses. Chris & Mary and Amber & Vinny running to the clue box in 6th and 7th. Michelle & Sean and Angie & Danny vs. Kishori & Karishma (unable to lock their car). All do Pick 'Em Up except for the unlocked car girls.

Rod & Leti are also disapproved while Kishori & Karishma arrive at the luchadores.

Derek & Shelisa muster their strength with the horses while Anthony & Bailey and Amber & Vinny get to the horse pickup station. They work together to go down the steep cobblestone hill. "Hills are not your friend." - Bailey. Amber smashes her finger and asks Vinny to give her a bit of space between them and the horses.

Juan & Shane ask for a phone in Spanish while Mary asks for directions in Spanish. They go separate directions. "Not my problem." - Chris.

Michelle "I control you, horse, you don't control me!" :funny:

Sunny & Bizzy reveal they are firefighters and mothers! Derek & Shelisa FINALLY get down, but they still have to look for the delivery location. Maya & Rohan still driving and meet a blocked roadway. Already a collision. Oh no. They are absolutely caught up in a tight alleway and sideways on the road.

Derek & Shelisa arrive at the plaza and must take off the wheels to receive their next clue. That's A LOT of work compared to the wrestling Detour. Yvonne & Mel and the beach boys arrive at the kids. Amber & Vinny also get there and Vinny compliments her. Derek & Shelisa get their clue in 4th.

Was expecting a choreography task, but this RB is pretty unique and requires nimbleness and timing, which isn't often tested. Still, seems like a quick task and I'm not sure how teams could jump placements easily.

We're back to Amber & Vinny asking where the rodeo is. They need to make a u-turn around the construction.

Juan & Shane are TEAM NUMBER FOUR, holy cow.

Amber & Vinny arrive at the RB. Amber gave him the stink eye and inferred to Vinny he was gonna do it. :funny:

Vinny finishes so quick and Mary is pumped to get through it.

Michelle & Sean, Yvonne & Melissa, Angie & Danny, Anthony & Bailey, and Sunny & Bizzy all check in without much airtime....

Meanwhile, Chris & Mary leave the RB while Rohan & Maya need to speed through the rodeo.

Kishori & Karishma fell down all the way to 10th. Oh wow. What happened.

Amber & Vinny vs. Chris & Mary vs. Rohan & Maya!!! It's about to be a foot race I think. Chris & Mary ask for directions at a hotel. Amber & Vinny are driving in the opposite direction and need to hitch a u-turn. Rohan & Maya know exactly where they are going.

Chris & Mary arrive alongside Amber & Vinny in 11th and 12th!

Rohan & Maya are the last team to arrive, and IT'S A KOR ELIMINATION LEG!

They've been watching the show forever and even getting to run one leg was a dream come true to them. Rohan is proud they never had heated exchanges with each other. Maya cannot imagine life without Rohan's sibling bond.

A fun start that helped us learn about the teams. It's apparent that this is a COVID season with the emphasis on driving and how it took out a team. Love rooting for superfans, but Maya & Rohan's age sadly showed with their navigation and Austin Powers moment.

Okay, I’m gonna say it. Most of these teams are…weird??

I have a feeling that *real* 36 was aired before this one as they needed a really strong season to bounce back after the COVID season to keep the show going. Last season felt like such a breath of fresh air with an incredible cast that I fell in love with immediately and interesting tasks and this already just feels like a major step down from that. Wrestling task was kind of cool but other than that, I think even the leg build was a letdown. I know it is just the start so still holding hope, let’s see how it is next week!

Yeah, but it's often hard to judge after one episode.

Last season's cast was boring for the first 3 weeks. The claws came out once they got to India.

Only the second Race visit to Jalisco by any franchise, TARLA 5 being the first.

We've seen teams overpack unnecessary items (and have to jettison them mid-race) but I believe Shelisa's crossword/sudoku books are a first.  :funny:

Gotta love the wrestling refs being total hams while doing the challenge checks.

Pro tip for helping someone back up a car: Instead of just telling them to keep going or to stop, describe to them how much space they have to move ("You've still got 2 feet", etc.) or show them the distance using your hands.

I noticed Phil still had a clue envelope in his pocket when Maya & Rohan arrived to the mat. An extra just in case or did the decision to make Leg 1 an elimination leg come after clue prep was finished for Leg 2?
