-Ratings Breakdown:
CBS and NBC shared leadership on this first Sunday of the Nov. 2007 sweeps. CBS was the most-watched network; NBC was No. 1 among key adults 18-49. ABC finished an atypical third in both categories, followed by Fox and dead-as-a-doorknob the CW.
The football overrun on CBS clobbered the competition in the 7 p.m. half-hour, with a mammoth 32.72 million viewers and an 11.4 rating/29 share among adults 18-49. And because of the football overrun, all program results on CBS are approximate. With that in mind…

One year earlier (on Sept. 17, 2006, actually), the season-premiere of The Amazing Race kicked-off with 10.13 million viewers and a 3.9/ 9 in the demo. Comparably, this was a significant improvement.
-------
Keep in mind that due to the sports overrun these will change before final ratigns come out tomorrow. But it is an excellent sign.
We can probably expect finals to drop close to a million, but that is still very good.
-
If those ratings come close to holding (even with the sports run over) I would expect CBS to push for a order for an additional cycle.
-
Thanks mswood! :kuss:
Good news indeed! :hearts:
-
this is from hollywood reporter
Beyond the football overrun, CBS was buoyed by the season premiere of "Amazing Race" (13.8 million, 4.2/9) that could be the best viewership of any "Race" season premiere and the best demo ratings since September 2005.

CBS (households: 10.6/17, #1; adults 18-49: 4.8, #2) then had to settle for second place with its mix of "NFL Overrun" (households: 19.3/31, #1, half-hour: N/A; adults 18-49: 11.4, #1, half-hour: N/A), "60 Minutes" (households: 11.6/18, #3, half-hour: -3.39%; adults 18-49: 5.0, #7, half-hour: 0.00%), the premiere of "The Amazing Race 12" (households: 8.5/13, #6, half-hour: 9.88%; adults 18-49: 4.2, #11, half-hour: 0.00%), "Cold Case" (households: 8.8/14, #5, half-hour: 4.65%; adults 18-49: 3.3, #15, half-hour: -5.88%) and "Shark" (households: 7.4/14, #10, half-hour: N/A; adults 18-49: 2.3, #18, half-hour: N/A).
Said "Race" numbers topped every broadcast of last season's two editions among adults 18-49 (previous high: 4.0 on 10/29/06, 11/19/06 and 12/10/06).

Zap2It.com
November 5 2007
Fast National ratings for Sunday, Nov. 4, 2007
The most-watched show on TV Sunday aired mostly in the afternoon, but its prime-time finish boosted CBS to a ratings win for the night.
CBS averaged a 10.6 rating/17 share in primetime, beating ABC's 8.2/13 by a solid margin. NBC was not far behind in third at 7.8/12. FOX came in fourth at 5.3/8, while The CW drew a negligible 0.8/1.
NBC snagged the top spot among adults 18-49 with a 5.0 rating, edging CBS, 4.8, and ABC, 4.7. FOX scored a 4.4 in the key ad-sales demographic, while The CW could manage only a 0.5.
CBS dominated at 7 p.m. with the end of the New England Patriots-Indianpolis Colts game (19.3/31) and "60 Minutes" (11.8/19). ABC was a distant second, averaging 5.0/8 with a NASCAR overrun and "America's Funniest Home Videos." A pair of "Simpsons" repeats drew a 4.6/7 for FOX to finish a little ahead of "Football Night in America" on NBC. "CW Now" and "Aliens in America" made hardly a blip for The CW.
The Eye held the lead at 8 p.m. with "60 Minutes," 11.4/17, and the premiere of "The Amazing Race," 8.1/12. NBC's "Sunday Night Football" delivered an 8.6/13, topping the 7.9/12 for "Extreme Makeover: Home Edition" on ABC. "The Simpsons," 6.4/10, and "Family Guy," 6.0/9, kept FOX in fourth. An "America's Next Top Model" repeat finished the night for The CW.
At 10 p.m., the Cowboys-Eagles game scored an 8.4/15 for NBC. "Brothers & Sisters" drew an 8.3/14 for ABC, edging the 8.2/14 for "Cold Case" and "Shark" on CBS.

how do u read the ratings?

Swimmer12 here is what futon critic puts up as an example.
http://www.thefutoncritic.com/ratings.aspx
So what does all this crap mean? Here's a quick guide to understanding these numbers:
"Heroes" (households: 8.1/12, #4, half-hour: 7.69%; adults 18-49: 6.6, #1, half-hour: 4.69%)
8.1 = "Heroes's" household rating, which indicates 8.1% of all households in the U.S. watched this broadcast
12 = "Heroes's" household share, which indicates 12% of all households watching TV in the U.S. watched this broadcast
#4 = "Heroes's" household ranking for that night (T denotes a tie)
7.69% = Gain or loss of household audience between the first half-hour and the last half-hour
6.6 = "Heroes's" adults 18-49 rating, which indicates 6.6% of all adults 18-49 in the U.S. watched this broadcast
#1 = "Heroes's" adults 18-49 ranking for that night (T denotes a tie)
4.69% = Gain or loss of adults 18-49 audience between the first half-hour and the last half-hour
Some other stuff to keep in mind:
· Ratings are percentages NOT flat numbers. A 1.0 household rating equals 1% of all households in the U.S. A 1.0 adults 18-49 ratings equals 1% of all adults 18-49 in the U.S.
· For the 2007-08 season, there are an estimated 112,800,000 television households in the U.S. so 1% of that equals 1,128,000 households. Note that a household may contain more than one person.
· For the 2007-08 season, there are an estimated 131,050,000 adults between the ages of 18 and 49 in the U.S. so 1% of that equals 1,310,500 people.

That is really, really great ratings. Almost no drop off in final ratings. I am really, really surprised.
Now of course we owe the exceptional football overrun for this, but still we had a huge sampling audience and even if only some stick with the show it helps it.
-
:jumpy: Yeah for TAR!!! :wohoo:
-
Let's hope they keep the audience from Sunday.
-
:yess: yay for tar being in the top 20 and beating home make over :jumpy:
-
Well we have Fast Nationals (usually fairly accurate) for Week #2, of Season 12.
And without a football overrun the ratings fell (to be expected).
Viewers 10.48 million, and a 3.1 in adults 18-49.
CBS as a whole averaged 11.96 and a 2.8 in adults 18-49.
60 minutes
12.99 million viewers and a 2.6 in adults 18-49.
Cold Case
12.91 million viewers and a 3.0 in adults 18-49.
Shark
11.46 million viewers and a 2.6 in adults 18-49.
While AR was the least viewed show on CBS (thats actually fairly typical (except for football overruns, then its the 10pm show).
But it had the largest number of adults 18-49 watching out of the full CBS lineup. And that isn't usually (its usually #2 or 3).
And thats very good. That is the key group of viewers that set ad rates. The most desirable audience for a network.
So we did good last night.

Darn that hyped up home improvement show (:;)
-
CBS' next doubleheader game is on November 25. I think TAR will do very well on that date.
-
As long as CBS is happy :yess:
THE AMAZING RACE 12 (6.4/10, 10.48m) delivered 10 million viewers plus for the second week in a row. This is the first time THE AMAZING RACE delivered more than 10 million viewers in two consecutive episodes since March 18 and March 25, 2007.

-
Preliminary ratings for last night are in.
8:00pm Demo Viewers
-------------------------------------------------------
Amazing Race 3.8/ 9 12,500,000
The numbers for AR are likely to change with final ratings, due to the over run in part of the east coast.
AR was the least viewed of the CBS shows, but it had the highest demo numbers for the importnat 18-49 age group. That group typically brings in more ad dollars per person then the other demo groups.
Also if those numebrs hold then AR will have won the hour.

Sunday Split for CBS, FOX

Zap2It.com
November 19 2007
Fast National ratings for Sunday, Nov. 18, 2007
Sunday night's ratings fight resulted in a split decision, with CBS leading the way in viewers and FOX capturing the largest number of younger viewers.
CBS won the overall race with an 8.6 rating/13 share in primetime. FOX and NBC tied for second in households at 7.0/11, with FOX drawing more viewers. ABC drew a 6.6/10, and The CW was way off the pace at 1.0/2.
In the adults 18-49 demographic, FOX scored 5.3 rating to finish comfortably ahead of ABC and NBC, which tied at 4.2. CBS averaged 3.3 and The CW a paltry 0.5.
Late-ending NFL games and "The OT" averaged 9.6/15 for FOX at 7 p.m., edging CBS' "60 Minutes," 9.5/15, for the lead. A NASCAR race on ABC earned a 4.2/7 to take third. NBC finished fourth with "Football Night in America," while The CW aired "CW Now" and an "Aliens in America" repeat.
NBC took the lead at 8 p.m. with its "Sunday Night Football" telecast, 8.0/12. "The Amazing Race" delivered a 7.5/11 for CBS, topping ABC's broadcast of the American Music Awards. FOX dipped to fourth overall (but won the 18-49 demo) with "The Simpsons," 6.5/10, and "King of the Hill," 5.5/8. "Life Is Wild" scored a 1.1/2 for The CW.

Beating the AMA's is good as ABC really promoted the show heavily and usually, it's a ratings winner. Good for TAR to take 2nd in the timeslot. It was pretty close in share (12-11) to the NFL.
-
Last year the score managed 12.4 million viewers (the 2cd highest ratings AR Scored for the entire year).
If the number holds above 12.4 million only the season final of cycle 11 will have had an higher rating last year.
-
Football overruns are the best thing that has happened to this show. Last week no overruns ratings went down. Football this week ratings up again. It is the same thing that happened with season 10.
-
Exactly, Tammy. Football fans just keep the TV on the same channel after the games are over. When Fox has the overrun, it does very well in the 7 p.m. hour for "The O.T."
I have tried to explain that to some people on the other board when TAR was first moved to Sundays, but they don't understand it. They think TAR should be run in place of 60 Minutes so it can be on time, but they don't know that 60 Minutes makes a lot of money and sets up the entire night for CBS and helps TAR. But they don't want to hear it. I throw up my hands. :res: :res: :res: :groan: :groan:
-
Tarasia fan they will never get it :(
The same was with Tar 5 and higher ratings. They showed it during the week and then repeated it Saturday nights of course that brought in more viewers.
The only season that got viewers on it's own was Season 7 due to Rob and Amber bringing in the Survivor fans.
Us Tar fans will watch it whenever it is on(or at least record it) we need to get the casual viewers who are too lazy to change the station hooked.
-
You're preaching to the choir, Tammy. Amen.

Football overruns are the best thing that has happened to this show. Last week no overruns ratings went down. Football this week ratings up again. It is the same thing that happened with season 10.
No football overrun in the Washington DC market; and the ratings were still up, UP UP.
-
The football overrun this past Sunday was in New York and Atlanta, two of the nation's Top 10 markets so that helped the numbers for TAR.
-
:wohoo: I'm a TOP 1O!
???
-
Oh, Philadelphia was also involved in the overrun last Sunday so three of the Top 10 markets had the NFL overrun contributing to the higher ratings for TAR.

Ratings for Episode #4
With a very extended football overrun, this is how the ratings turned out (according to Fast Nationals).
CBS averaged 15.39 million viewers and a 4.3 in adults 18-49.
Football overrun scored 21.59 million viewers and a 6.5 in adults
60 minutes 15.52 million viewers and a 4.0 in adults
Amazing Race 12.17 million viewers and a 3.6 in adults
Cold Case & Shark are measured on Fast Nationals as one show with an average of 12.28 million viewers and 3.1 in adults.
Based on this AR did quite well in total viewers (but will easily be beaten by Cold Case and 60 minutes when final ratings come out). Shark will most likely be lower.
In demo, AR will actually be beat by 60 minutes and very possible by Cold Case. But unlike its usually 8pm competition it faced against 2 shows that score exceptionally well with adults 18-49 (Football on NBC 7.5 and Desperate Housewives 6.9). Usually with overruns at worse AR only competes with them for half an hour, last night it was on against them for the full hour.
-
And for some comparison to AR last year.
Average for the 1st 4 episodes this season 12.06 million viewers
Last year for the 1st 4 episodes that season 10.65 million viewers
But last year started earlier so here lets compare the average of the same weeks (November 07 to 06)
2007 (again) is 12.06 million viewers
2006 is 11.26 million viewers.
So in total viewers the show is a significant improvement (so far) to season 10. And a much larger improvement over All Stars.
Oh and last year same week the show got 10.37 million viewers (final numbers) compared to this weeks preliminary 12.17 million viewers.
-
And it did reasonably well against Sunday Night Football which was surprisingly competitive and had its best overnight ratings ever.
TAR finished 3rd in its timeslot, but very well in 18-49.

-
Just barely out of the Top 20. I think people have gotten used to having TAR in the 8 p.m. Sunday timeslot. Very good finish especially with NBC getting record ratings for Sunday Night Football with a close competitive game.
-
At 11.8 its still above average for this time of the year.
But if the overrun was just 20-30 minutes I suspect they would have scored higher, still.

CBS Is the Only Network to Post November Increases in all Key Measures Versus the First Five Weeks of the Season
CBS is projected to win the November 2007 sweep in viewers and adults 25-54 and finish a close second in adults 18-49, according to updated Nielsen live plus same day ratings through Monday, Nov. 26 and fast nationals through Tuesday, Nov. 27. The November sweep concludes tonight.
The November win marks CBS's seventh consecutive November victory in viewers and fifth straight in adults 25-54.

CBS continued its season long dominance among adults 18-49 on Fridays (winning all four weeks) and finished the month with three successive Thursday wins in adults 18-49.
Other program highlights included the second largest audience ever for fifth year drama NCIS (18.2 million on Nov. 6) and the second largest viewer delivery for THE AMAZING RACE (Nov. 4) now in its 12th edition.

FAST FACTS FOR SUNDAY, DECEMBER 2, 2007 (FAST AFFILIATE LIVE + SAME DAY RATINGS)
Released by ABC
"Extreme Makeover: Home Edition" made ABC the No. 1 network during the 8 o'clock hour in viewers and young adults. ABC's "Home Edition" outdelivered its unscripted competition in the time period, CBS' "The Amazing Race XII," by 3.3 million viewers (14.5 million vs. 11.2 million) and by 44% in Adults 18-49 (4.9/11 vs. 3.4/8).
-
Final numbers are out for this Sunday.
60 Minutes 13.24 million viewers and a 2.6 in adults 18-49
Amazing Race 11.263 million viewers and a 3.5 in adults 18-49
Pictures of Hollis Woods 11.349 million viewers and a 2.1 in adults 18-49.
-
Just some notes.
The last time AR had three episodes in a row that scored over 11 million viewers was season 7.
The average so far this season is 11.82. Last season at this episode was 10.85. Nearly a million more viewers.
Its so nice that in CBS wisdom they didn't greenlight 2 cycles and shortened the season. Dumbasses.
-
If you compare it to the year ago numbers (due to this season starting so much later), we are still averaging 690,000 viewers more then last season at the same time.
-
CBS top programs of the week: #6 NCIS (an average of 17.04m viewers), #8 CRIMINAL MINDS (16.23m), #9 CSI: MIAMI (15.58m), #10 TWO AND A HALF MEN (15.26m), #13 CSI: NY (14.19m), #14 SURVIVOR: CHINA (13.57m), #17 60 MINUTES (13.24m), #19 CSI: CRIME SCENE INVESTIGATION (R) (12.33m), #23 RULES OF ENGAGEMENT (R) (11.58m), #24 HALLMARK HALL OF FAME: "Pictures of Hollis Woods" (S) (11.35m), #25 THE AMAZING RACE 12 (11.26m) and #28 THE UNIT (10.56m).

blame the stupid one nina tessler for that
-
The same Nina Tessler who canceled Jericho and didn't realize how loyal the show's fanbase was. NUTS!
And the same Nina Tessler who's now scrambling for programming and had to greenlight at TAR13 thanks to the Writers Strike. Had she done it earlier, TAR13 might even be finished and be ready for airing in February.
-
I can actually understand the choice to cancel Jericho. On a business level.
It was an expensive show (with a large cast). And it lost a large number of its viewers. Drifting from 12 to 7 million during its first season. Almost any show that does that will not get renewed.
I liked Jericho, but it was bleeding viewers, and really didn't fit that well with the rest of CBS lineup.
I actually hope it does well in its new miniseries style run (I actually think several shows would perform better in that format). Since the show really took a hit whenever they had to break for reruns.
But unfortunately the US business model for shows not suited for short runs. Shows are so expensive they almost always lose money on original broadcast. Its reruns, DVD sales, and off network syndication where shows finally really earn profit.
-
It bled viewers because CBS put it up against American Idol. Never a good move. But it's coming back so it's all water under the bridge.
-
Yeah Idol hurt it. But CBS out of all the networks has typically had programming that held up better agains't idol.
Typically different audiences watch CBS' shows. And as such they had hoped that Idol wouldn't have that effect onthis show.
For example NCIS, Crimal Minds suffer some loses but not nearly to that percentage agains't idol.
And from a business point of view. If you have a fairly stable lineup (which CBS does, more so then any network). You don't leave a show on, if its getting killed by the competition. Especially one that even before Idol was losing viewers (though creatively I think the show was stronger in the spring). You get rid of it, and try to develop something that is more successful.
Now the one thing CBS could ahve done (and probably would have if the show had performed initial stronger) is a shif in days to see if that would help (sometimes it does, sometimes it doesn't).

CBS WINS SUNDAY IN ALL KEY MEASURES
"60 Minutes" Places First in Viewers, Adults 25-54 and Adults 18-49
"The Amazing Race" Delivers its Highest Ratings in Three Weeks
CBS won Sunday in all key measures with late running football leading into the Network's first run lineup of 60 MINUTES, THE AMAZING RACE 12, COLD CASE and SHARK, according to preliminary Nielsen live plus same day ratings for Dec. 9.
Notes: CBS's prime lineup was delayed by about 25 minutes in the Eastern and Central time zones. CBS's ratings are tentative and subject to change. NBC's football ratings are tentative. All networks' time period rankings are tentative and subject to change.
At 7:30 PM, 60 MINUTES won its time slot in households (10.3/16), viewers (15.92m), adults 25-54 (5.2/12) and adults 18-49 (4.3/11). This is 60 MINUTES' best delivery in adults 18-49 and adults 25-54 since Nov. 4.
From 8:30-9:30 PM, THE AMAZING RACE 12 (7.5/11, 11.87m) averaged a 4.6/10 in adults 25-54 and 3.8/09 in adults 18-49. This is the best viewers and adults 18-49 delivery for THE AMAZING RACE 12 since Nov. 18.
From 9:30-10:30 PM, COLD CASE (7.5/12, 11.23m) averaged a 4.0/09 in adults 25-54 and 3.0/07 in adults 18-49.
SHARK posted a 6.5/12 in households with 9.46m viewers, 3.3/09 in adults 25-54 and 2.4/07 in adults 18-49.
For the night, CBS was first in households (8.9/14), viewers (13.93m), adults 25-54 (4.9/11) and adults 18-49 (4.1/10).
Updated Sunday ratings will be available tomorrow.

"The Amazing Race" Delivers its Highest Ratings in Three Weeks

The rating a demo numbers are good, but with those numbers not reflecting the nearly half hour overrun, they are likely to change. I would expect that Cold Case's viewer total will go up slightly. TAR's viewer total should decline a little as will its demo.
It should still get a very good demo and a viewer total of 11 plus million. But it probably wont stay the highest rated of the last three.
But using those preliminary numbers:
Season 12 remains the 3rd most viewed cycle of the Amazing Race.
And in direct comparison to last seasons cycle.
Comparing the first 6 episodes of the fall cycle and cycle 10 averaged at this point 10.86 million viewers.
Cycle 10 1st 6 episodes 10.86 million
Cycle 10, week to week 11.40 million
Cycle 12 11.83 average if that preliminary number holds (even if it doesn't the show would have to drop to 8 million viewers to not still lead.
It is the only show on Sunday for CBS that is showing year to year gains.
But I expect the numbers for the next few episodes to be lower, due to the general decline of total households actually watching tv during the holiday season.
This might prevent this cycle from keeping its viewer average higher then season 10 (and season 5).
And another negative (though it is completely expected) is that this week last year actually had a far superior performance, due to it being season finale of cycle 10.
-
Next week, Survivor will get its regular 15 million viewers for its finale. But on December 23 & 30, I do expect the NFL overruns to help TAR once again.
-
Next week, Survivor will get its regular 15 million viewers for its finale. But on December 23 & 30, I do expect the NFL overruns to help TAR once again.
Really their are only three things that TAR can take advantage of that might help counter the lower number of viewers during this time of the year.
1. Football. Still drags the viewers in. So you will be hearing me hope each week for a sports overrun.
2. 60 minutes. Yes I just typed 60 minutes. It is a year round show (I believe) and has such as a fairly stable audience, and usually bigger then TAR's.
3. Original episodes. THinks to both the time of the year and the on going strike CBS is in a position to have two shows on back to back that typically get over 10-11 million viewers that are new each week. Most other networks will not be able to manage that for a good part of this time.
So I hope those factors help keep the audience. It is even possible that it might improve, though I am doubtful.
-
60 Minutes does do repeats in the summer, but for the most part, does have original stories from September through June. CBS is actually in good shape on Sundays through January.
-
This guy (http://groups.google.com/group/alt.tv.amazing-race/browse_thread/thread/5b94e55b86e9d304#cb9b724191097d62) does a good job of keeping track~
With most reruns on Sunday night's schedule, it is good to use a good TAR
episode as Sunday night refreshment. Many of 20 million plus Patriot and
Steeler fans also stay to watch 60 Minutes and TAR. Not so much love left
for Cold Case and Shark though, both set series record low ratings. Now
Shark has only 9 million viewers compared to TAR's 12 million. Next fall,
when CBS need to cut something, it will be Shark.

Well final numbers are out and though we won't get a press release, since we are out of sweeps.
I am surprised. Typically on a roughly 30 minute overrun the preliminary numbers are a little high. And I expected a minor drop.
He, he I was wrong. And it is nice to be wrong.
Final numbers for Sunday
60 minutes 16.497 million viewers and a 4.2 in adults 18-49 (the overrun really, really helps 60 min.)
Amazing Race 11.947 million viewers and a 3.9 in adults 18-49 (the 2nd highest rating in numbers and adults for this cycle)
Cold Case 11.565 million viewers and 3.1 in adults 18-49 (season low)
Shark 9.835 million viewers and a 2.4 in adults 18-49 (season low)
I love it. I hope CBS is kicking themselves in the ass, over and over again.
This makes its season average 11.85 million viewers.

Well, CBS putting on "In God's Name" didn't help at all. But next week will be quite interesting when both Fox and CBS have the doubleheader.

Oh it did fine when compared to the rest of the nights schedule on the 5 networks only Football and 60 minutes did better.
The thing that bothers me is that I was hoping to keep this seasons ratings average up. This season was online to be the 2nd highest viewed season.
That really looks good when shows are listed by season average (in the trades and such). As it is with the smaller audience during these last 5 episodes we will probably drop to the 5th most watched season with 7,6,10, and 5 having a higher average. And I really wanted to avoid that.
-
This drops the season average to 11.43 million viewers and unless the rest of the season maintains an average of 10.5 million viewers, the show will finish with an average worse tehn season 7, 6, 10 and possible 5.
And I don't want it to. I want it to at least do better then season 10, so that we can say the show had year to year growth (something that doesn't happen a lot on tv now days). :'(
-
CBS Baltimore vs. Pittsburgh is meaningless in playoff implications while FOX Dallas vs. Washington is a must-win for the Redskins. This will mean more viewers on FOX around 730pm who will have to switch to CBS for The Amazing Race. I can also confidently predict a late start for 60 Minutes since the CBS football game begins at 415pm.
-
Had the Pats-Giants game been scheduled for the 4:15 p.m. start, I would guarantee you that would have been the higher rated game, but Dallas in that slot will get more viewers. But if Pittsburgh-Baltimore turns out to be a good game and goes into OT, then I would venture a wager that CBS gets more viewers.
-
OH No !! the Cowboys ~vs~ the Indians! That's always a huge game around here :ascared

tentivly the january 6th episode has a start time of 8:30 unless things change due to the nfl on cbs.
-
The late NFL wild card playoff game is slotted for CBS that day, 4:40 p.m. kickoff. I would expect TAR to start around 8:45 p.m.

might as well push it to 9:00pm
-
I know. We'll see how quickly the game goes.
-
I posted this in the Episode 8 thread over in the spoiler and speculation section, but if you're avoiding spoilage, I'll give this latest news here.
I've just learned that the New York market will now receive the Dallas-Washington game on Fox opposite the Chiefs-Jets on CBS. What does that mean? It means a hit on TAR's ratings for this episode in the nation's largest market. With the Jets being pitiful this season and a lot of Cowboys fans living in New York, this means a lot of attention away from CBS in the late game. Hoo boy.
-
Well preliminary numbers are out for this week's kiss off to the Goth's.
And like last weeks the numbers are that good. And thanks to theoverrun, here is half hor breakdowns for the night.
CBS
7:00 p.m. Football – Viewers: 13.51 million (#1), A18-49: 3.8/11 (#2)
7:30 p.m. Football/60 Minutes – Viewers: 11.87 million (#1), A18-49: 2.7/ 8 (#2)

9:30 p.m. Amazing Race 12/Cold Case R – Viewers: 7.94 million (#3), A18-49: 2.0/ 5 (#4)
10:00 p.m. Cold Case R – Viewers: 7.37 million (#3), A18-49: 1.7/ 4 (#3)
10:30 p.m. Cold Case R/Shark R – Viewers: 6.46 million (#3), A18-49: 1.5/ 4 (#3)
and for the totals for the networks for the night.
-Total Viewers:
NBC: 11.54 million, CBS: 10.01, Fox: 7.77, ABC: 7.66, CW: 826,000
-Adults 18-49:
NBC: 4.2 rating/11 share, Fox: 3.4/ 9, CBS: 2.5/ 7, ABC: 2.0/ 5, CW: 0.3/ 1
I would expect final numbers to be close to 9.5 for the full hour (plus or minus a hundred so thousand). And that would bring the viewer average for the season to 11.19 million viewers. We are now official the third most viewed season of AR (as season 6 now passes this one).
Ratings for next week might be very good, with a overrun of a playoff game, and originals across the board. And with no NBC game, the only competition we ahve is original episodes on ABC. If we are lucky we could be 11 - 12 plus million viewers. And that would help.
Then the next week we won't have a sports overrun, but we also will only face one new show (though it will benefit from a sports overrun) and that is Fox's Sarah Conner Terminator spin off. But hopefully the Lonesome Dove sequel will help bring the viewers to CBS (I know the first one did killer business, I have no idea ont eh other sequel).
-
I'm concerned with January 20, the finale when Fox has the NFC Championship at 6:30 p.m. If the game involves Green Bay and Dallas, then TAR's ratings could be very small that night.

pray for seattle vs tampa bay then . im not worried about the cowgirls or the pukers

Damn it. Here I was letting myself be optimistic, and look at the bright side of the ratings (instead of just the negative), and you go and mention that.
Your fired, Ken.
-
I'm sorry, mswood! It's the reporter in me.
-
I'm praying for the Giants vs. Seattle, which should also be a relatively low audience game. To get that, the Giants will have to beat Tampa Bay and then Dallas while Seattle is beating Washington then Green Bay. No too likely, but this is a wish. It's independent of AR12 ratings, but they shouldn't be hurt as badly by that championship game as by Dallas vs. Green Bay.
-
Well just to beat puddin with this.

Well the preliminary numbers were:
9:00 p.m. Amazing Race – Viewers: 9.58 million (#2), A18-49: 2.7/ 7 (#3)
So the finals improved in both total viewers to 9.69 and to a 2.9 in adults 18-49. Not to bad (glad to see us nearly getting a 3.0 in the demo for that crappy time of the year).
That brings the average viewer total to 11.22 million viewers.
Now most long term comparisons of AR ratings use Season Long averages provided by the Hollywood reporter.
But I have been using (since season 10), the ones released weekly by Nielson Media research.
And while they are close (for this season ), I have some variances with seasons 10 and All Stars.
Hollywood reporter shows a season average:
Season 10: as 11.5 million viewers.
While using Nielson's numbers averages to 11.17 million viewers
All Stars: as 10.1 million viewers
While using Nielson's numbers averages to 9.78 million viewers (and technically should actually be even lowered but they count the two hour block of episodes which I believe was Germany's episodes as one single episode (and it got the third lowest rating of the season). If counted as two episodes the season average would actually come out to 9.72 million viewers.
So using Nielsons for this season and comparing to Hollywood reporters for the rest, We have drop to the 4th most watched season with a current average of 11.22 million viewers.
Season 7: 13.05
Season 6: 11.54
Season 10: 11.50
Season 12: 11.22
Season 5: 10.73
Season 2: 10.3
Season 11(All Stars): 10.1
Season 8 (Family Edition): 10.08
Season 9: 9.1
Season 3: 8.98
Season 1: 8.8
Season 4: 8.32
Now if Nielson's weekly final numbers are more accurate then we are still 3rd and ahead of Season 10, which they show an average of 11.17.
But no matter with the up coming schedule we shouldn't fall lower then position #4. And for a show thats on its 12th cycle thats pretty amazing.

Darn you mswood  .. so much going on today its as if CBS has come to life! BB9 feeds! Survivor 16 cast! Amazing Race clips! and poor puddin putting away X-Mas decorations :groan:
-
Oh, survivor Cast (didn't you already now this)?
-
Yes but its official now so :girly << *puddin thinks this is what mswood looks like when she is naughty*
-
Well ratings were delayed this morning, but better late then never.
-Total Viewers:
CBS: 15.35 million, ABC: 12.85, NBC: 11.23, Fox: 5.79, CW: 790,000
-Adults 18-49:
ABC and CBS: 4.5 rating/11 share each, NBC: 4.4/11, Fox: 2.7/ 6, CW: 0.3/ 1
and for CBS broken down by the half hour.
CBS
7:00 p.m. NFL AFC Wild Card Game – Viewers: 28.09 million (#1), A18-49: 9.4 rating/25 share (#1)
7:30 p.m. NFL/Post-Game/60 Minutes – Viewers: 20.77 million (#1), A18-49: 6.0/15 (#1)
8:00 p.m. 60 Minutes – Viewers: 17.86 million (#1), A18-49: 4.9/12 (#1)
8:30 p.m. 60 Minutes/Amazing Race 12 – Viewers: 14.29 million (#1), A18-49: 4.4/10 (#2)
9:00 p.m. Amazing Race 12 – Viewers: 11.54 million (#3), A18-49: 3.4/ 8 (#3)
9:30 p.m. Amazing Race 12/Cold Case – Viewers: 10.95 million (#3), A18-49: 2.9/ 6 (#3)
10:00 p.m. Cold Case – Viewers: 10.44 million (#3), A18-49: 2.5/ 6 (#3)
10:30 p.m. Cold Case/Shark R – Viewers: 9.34 million (#3), A18-49: 2.2/ 6 (#3)
When the figure out real totals for each show. I would expect that we scored slightly higher then 11.54 million viewers. I think we will probably hold steady in the demo of 3.4.

The NFL Playoff lead in followed by the Roger Clemens slimy interview on 60 Minutes both helped TAR.

For this Sunday, while Fox will have the Giants-Cowboys/Jessica Simpson-Tony Romo lovefest, CBS should still do well in the ratings.
60 Minutes is expected to have Brian McNamee, the guy who spilled the beans on Roger Clemens, to have a rebuttal interview and the Golden Globes Awards show will be no more than a press conference without any stars crossing the Writers Guild picket lines, so I expect TAR to do rather decently opposite the series premiere of the Sarah Connor Chronicles on Fox.
-
See this is what happens after beating Puddin last week. I am late for the party.
Very pleased with the uptick in viewers and demo.
-
And that puts our average this season officially at 11.30 million.
-
Yes, ratings are gradually on the up, last Sunday had TAR's highest average to date. BUT looking ahead to the finale on Sunday, Jan 20 doom looms. Fox will have the NFC championship game on against TAR. Last year, the NFC championship game was the third highest rated show of all shows during all of 2007, with an average audience four times that of the best TAR has ever done. So look for a low number for the final Sunday. TVGuide doesn't even promote the finale, just "leg 11" So what do they know?
But hopefully CBS knows that TAR is up against a juggernaut on the 20th and will still go ahead with TAR13.

last year was the bears-saints game on fox. chicago and new orlans 2 great stories. this year hopefully will be seattle and the gAInts, 2 crappy teams,. tar will be fine for the finale
-
Kogs, I certainly hope that it will be Seahawks vs. Giants. However, Green Bay vs. Dallas is much more likely and that will be of interest to most NFL fans, way more so than Chicago vs. New Orleans last year. If I were CBS I would have taken a week off and gone to Jan. 27 for the finale, but I seem to remember that there is something else already in that time slot.
-
It is what it is. You can't change things now. Just plow ahead and hope the TiVO ratings will be high for TAR (yes, the networks have TiVO ratings, too).
-
A point or two about TAR's ratings averages. The Nielsen weekly ratings don't really include much of the DVR time-shifted viewing any more than the overnights do; which is a problem trying to use those weekly ratings to compute the season's average.
DVR penitration is now estimated to be 20 % of the audience. At the beginning of the season, CBS was giving some number folding in the DVR-within-3-days viewers, but that doesn't help figure out the averages because the weekly numbers come out on Tuesday, which hasn;t already been three days.
CBS did mention an average audience for TAR appropaching 12 million at one point earlier this season (I think it was Thanksgiving weeked, if I recall correctly. The AP list of the Top 20 shows this week also included the placing of the listed shows for the season to date, and TAR was 24th (keep in mind that the listing would include shows that started their season after TAR did, and include shows that ended their seasons before TAR will,
From what I've seen t TAR 12 average numbers (with the DVR viewers included should be placing it only behind season 7 in the season average for viewers. Looking at it a different way, TAR has finished in the top 30 every week, has finished in the top 20 in 7 of the 9 weeks, and finished in the top 10 twice, IIRC. On that alone, TAR is having one of its best seasons ratings-wise.

Welcome to the forum famous theschnauzers
Let me add another big time welcome. :waves:
Years and races ago when I was a newbie, two posters, at TWOP and RFF didn't make fun of me when I first posted on TWoP and here, theschnauzers and Puddin. For them to post back to back is something else. A sincere thanks to the both of you.
Back on Topic. Thanks a bunch to mswoods' post and the others.
This season is doing great like season 10, but the football overruns have a lot to do to it.
No matter have you feel about Boston Rob and Amber, Race 7 is still the gold standard.
And, Chip McAllister from Race 5 is still the Franchise. His and Kim's trial's and tribulations against Colin and Christie were great TV and saved the Amazing Race franchise from cancellation. I'm still disappointed that they were not selected for All-Stars.

YAY! theschnauzers are here! :waves:
So glad to see y'all here! A great big :welcome2:
We can use your insights!

Looking at it a different way, TAR has finished in the top 30 every week, has finished in the top 20 in 7 of the 9 weeks, and finished in the top 10 twice, IIRC. On that alone, TAR is having one of its best seasons ratings-wise.
The ratings I post (and what is now common) is any viewing in that day. So it already does include some DVR usage. Then they have the all important live plus 3 data, and that has been released occasionally throughout the season and TAR usually doesn't show up in it (for either top twenty overall, or ten largest gainers for DVR useage). And that is the important one (since ads rates are set by it). And its really difficult to gauge without seeing how it fairs (Some do very well, but many are still below ten percent). And thats why I tend not to mention it. So far I have seen nothing (though I haven't checked since late December, boring TV period that it is), to give us any indication on how this particular show does (on a typical night) with DVR's. It certainly isn't on the high end (that I can say), whether its middle of the road or below average, I honestly don't know.
The also know that in years past that the VCR also held additional viewers but they were never able to accurate track that data in a reliable fashion.
Studios will also list live plus 7, ad really those numbers on a practical level don't matter. There was one show that I was following that got a 34% increase on the live plus 7. Unfortunately most of that was after the 3 days, where typically advertisers don't give a damn and won't consider for ad rates.

:yess:
Our Show is awesome. :lol3:
Earlier in the evening on CBS was veteran 60 Minutes (Viewers: #2, 9.49 million; A18-49: #3, 1.9/ 5) and The Amazing Race 12 (Viewers: #2, 11.63 million; A18-49: #3, 3.8/ 9) from 7-9 p.m. Worth noting for The Amazing Race was growth of 2.14 million viewers and 100 percent in the demo out of 60 Minutes.
Thats with absolutely no overrun. :jam:
This is the best non overrun episode that wasn't in I don't know how long (I will check later today).
I was hoping that the lonesome dove sequel would help, did it?

That's fantastic news, mswood. I thought the fact that the Golden Globes Awards Announcements would draw low and they did. Despite the fact that Fox had the much-hyped Sarah Connor Chronicles, fans stayed with CBS.
Next week, CBS will be helped with the ratings now the Cowboys are not in the NFC Championship. This season has built as it's gone along and fans have enjoyed the cast.

Awesome that it even increase another 20,000 viewers with finals.
Tonight, I think I will check to see if this the best rating in the last two years for a non overrun episode of AR.
And would you believe, Puddin. I actually forgot final numbers came out today?
-
Well because I am anal. I did a check over the ratings this season and the last two (10 and All Stars).
THe rating of 11,649,000 is the highest rating the Amazing Race has managed with out some form of Sports overrun (be it Football, or basketball in the spring).
In fact in the last 3 cycles (since we have been on Sundays) no episode has hit over 11 million viewers without a sportsover run. The closest has been:
10.9 million for episode 9 of season 10.
We scored nearly 600,000 more viewers then the highest performing non overrun episode since we have moved to Sundays.
It is also likely that this number would beat anything from season 9.
-
Well because I am anal.
You're not anal. I like when you check the numbers. I'm glad to see TAR doing well as the fans have found the show once again.
Remember when they put the show in TAR9 when they put the show on Tuesday nights at 9, then at 10? Not consistent. I think Sunday at 8 p.m. is the perfect time for this show.
-
If they include overseas viewers, Im sure The Amazing Race will be right at the top because of its popularity.
Its been shown here since TAR 3(not sure about 1 and 2 though) on a free channel that everyone can access to. I think the Singapore leg in TAR 3 helped!
I remembered the first time I saw was Flo and Zach crossing the finish line and I was like, WOW! what a cool show and actually started on season 4, where my favourite team all-time has never changed. :jumpy:
Still delighted that TAR has still been a hit with the fans after many seasons and with new locations and twist, hopefully it will last as long as possible. :wohoo:
-
Jonnal
I love the fact that AR does well overseas, enough so to create local additions. I loved the first seasons of Asia, while some of the tasks at first disappointed me, it very quickly (by I think leg 3) stepped it up and really felt like a very good season.
I can't wait for season two, I have downloaded the first 9 episodes, but am saving it until after this season so that I have AR during the break between US cycles.
I only wished I spoke spanish to understand the other local edition of the show. I still watched 3 episodes, and enjoyed what I could f it.

I would have expected the finale to do less well up against a really exciting NFC Championship Football Game; it did less well because that's what happened. I went over to FOX on every commercial break and of course was taping the game for later viewing.
-
I think the show would have benefited from a week hiatus instead of being up against the Giants-Packers. You have the #1 market involved, plus casual fans know who Brett Favre is so that hurt TAR this week, but overall, the season has to be considered a success ratings and content-wise.
-
ITA. It should've been that following week. However, TAR was already preempted this season and it would've been too much to have that happen twice. Of course, some of the other alternatives would've been to wrap the season up the preceding week as a 2-hour special. Naturally, when a two-hour finale would've meant 4 teams on TES, it went to 1-hr finales. It would've been a non-issue this year since Nic/Don and Ron/Chris were M.I.A. Or, they could've had the show on a different night, and finally, they could've kept the show in the fall period, having it wrap up on 12/09/07, right before Survivor China.
Anyway, what a great night! Next year, however, should the schedule actually mirror this year's schedule, the AR finale would be around 10-ish, as CBS gets the late game. Late, but very, very helpful.

Roush Rules!! :jam:
Roush Dispatch The Amazing Race's Grand Finale
Phil Keoghan greets winning team members TK and Rachel at the finish line by Monty Brinton/CBSIts so rare in the world of reality TV when everything ends just how I want it to. Cheers all around to the latest cycle of The Amazing Race, one of the most enjoyable runnings of the around-the-world competition in a long while. Rare for this or any show, in Sundays finale we were left with three teams you could easily root for instead of against. That said, my favorite team won, and the runners-up each walked away chagrined but hardly bitter, given the family bonding (between father and daughter, grandfather and grandson) that occurred along the way.
Sundays satisfying finale came on the heels of last weeks thrilling penultimate episode, an exhilarating nail-biter that found Zen couple TK and Rachel coming from behind (having survived a last-place finish the week before on a non-elimination leg, which forced them to perform an extra speed bump challenge) and squeaking into the final three. This bumped the annoying and constantly squabbling Nate and Jen, the latter a non-stop headache who earned every bit of the bad karma that resulted in her being bounced on her birthday.
The final leg, which took the teams from Taipei to Anchorage, Alaska, was pretty closely contested, although there never seemed much of a chance for Nick and Don (the grandson-grandfather duo) to cross the finish line first. Still, Don holds the record for the oldest contestant (at 69) to make it to the end. Well done. If anything, the younger player was the liability at the end, not reading the clue closely enough and leaving the gear behind at the outdoor-supply store, putting them behind on the fish-gutting challenge. (The fact that TK and Rachel made the mistake of going into the crab tankouchkept things competitive.)
While Christina and Ron managed to stay ahead for most of the final leg, having found their groove (and Ron his humanity) over the last few weeks to become the dominant team, everyone caught up at the brain-teasing final challenge, in which they had to group together items representing each leg of the race. Rachel figured out the puzzle first, clinching the win as they sprinted to the finish line.
Everyone found reason to celebrate at the end of this race: TK and Rachel for coming from behind to win, Ronald and Christina for strengthening their bond, and Nick and Don for proving that age and a generation gap arent necessarily deterrents in this game.
The only thing I would criticize in any of this is CBSs scheduling of this crown jewel in its reality arsenal. Rushed on the air in the wake of Viva Laughlins fast fade, the show burned off episodes on the Sundays before Christmas and New Years (when even the most devoted fan tends to have better things to do), and the finale aired on one of the biggest football nights of the year (airing directly opposite the genuinely exciting Packers-Giants battle, which went into overtime). I often get asked by frustrated fans if a network is actively trying to kill or harm a show. I almost never answer in the affirmative, but in this case, you cant help but wonder.
Of course, the scheduling is out of the hands of those talented people who make The Amazing Race so amazing. Once again, the show proved why it has won the reality-competition Emmy every year since the category was established. No reason to think it wont take it home again this year.

Yeah, I saw it Monday.
Oh and for the season we end with an average of 11.19 million viewers. Which when you consider that we had the highest rated episode (without a sports overrun) since the shows been on Sunday's), that the only time we went under 10.48 million is when we aired the weekend of Christmas, New Years and against the NFC championship game, that DVR use is up on average over 10% from just last fall, then this season has been a tremendous success for AR.
Even if DVR use (for this show) was up just 5% from last year, then it would be enough to make it more watched then season 10.
