Was still pondering about the temple/monkey puzzle, so I got on a flight to Thailand to try to clear things up. (Well, actually, it was a holiday. But hey, who would go to Lopburi on their own?) Here's what I found...
Prang Sam Yot, Lopburi, Thailand
Your guesses were right! The temple in the previews are of Prang Sam Yot in Lopburi. Not as famous as I thought it would be, though, many locals couldn't recognize which temple the picture in the preview was. Finally got some help from the Tourist Office to get me to the temple. The picture is taken from the east side of the complex, framing only the two southern tops (out of three). Yeah, yeah, the monkeys are there alright. Everywhere.
Wanted to get some team and production information, but the two ladies mannning the ticket office didn't speak English (and I, unfortunately, not Thai). They did, however, show me where the field with the Thai boy monk was... right outside the temple, on Thanon Wichayen. The picture was taken facing east.
Elephant Kraal, Ayuthaya, Thailand
Following the suggestions from the board, made my way to Ayuthaya. It's a two hour bus ride to the town from Lopburi (the Thai bus system is surprisingly brilliant, the teams won't have any trouble) and a half-hour tuk-tuk ride out of town to the Elephant Kraal. I'm still not sure if the race came here. It's a kinda small area (say, three football fields) and not a lot of people (certainly not tourists) around. There's not much going on, though I did see a platform where one can ride on an elephant. Didn't see any uniformed people (from pre-race promotion videos) in the area.
The sandy patches, yeah, they match, and the fences kind of do too. While asking a lady working in the management there about filming and stuff, she did say that there were production teams from time to time, but doesn't remember anything happening in December last year. She seemed genuine enough, didn't seem like a cover up. Take a look at the photos and decide for yourselves?

Well, they almost did. On the flight from Alaska back to Denver, we knew about it and posted while some teams may have still been looking for flights.
If someone in Denver read the boards they could have been waiting at the airport to observe the race in action.
I know, this is bad. Must not interfere with the action. B:)

I am going to guess Monica, and also i think the second FF [is there one or am i wrong] will be now, unless its next eppy. Lets pray this is a non elim becuause Tokyo is such a big city and nice location for it to be a lame non elim [also a yield most likly]
Wouldnt the finale be GREAT if they went to tokyo, yield was used, a team was eliminated, and then the final three race with a foot race down red rocks theater between not two but all three teams all get caught at a hours of opp at the finish and the hippies are the fastest just like on day one and who cares who comes in first and second when its so close. Now thats a good finale and thats something this season really needs.

Well they have less to carry now.
But I think in a footrace, based on all the legs so far with teams running, so far the Hippies have only ran fastest (in the opener), so I think if E/J are still in it, they better fun really fast.

I seriously doubt they fly to Lopburi directly. The bus system works really well, and it takes about 3 hours to get from Bangkok's Morchit (Northern Terminal) to the Lopburi Bus Station. It just so happens that Morchit is just a stone's throw from the Don Muang Intl Airport (which was still being used during the race).
The problem teams will face is that motorcycle taxis seem to be the norm in Lopburi, and normal taxis are rare to come by (heck, I didn't even see a single one when I was there). I wonder how teams will have to deal with this...

By Car:
From Bangkok: The trip from Bangkok to Lop Buri by car may take up to 2 hours. It is possible to either drive along Highway No.1 via Saraburi (total distance is 153 kilometers), or use Highway No. 32 via Ayutthaya, and travel further along Highway No. 347 to Lop Buri via Tha Ruea District.
By Bus:
From Bangkok: Air-conditioned coaches and non air-conditioned buses leave Bangkok's Northern Bus Terminal (Mo Chit 2 Bus Terminal) every 20 minutes from 5.30 a.m. until 8.30 p.m. The ticket costs 62 baht (ordinary bus) and 85 bahts (air-conditioned). The journey takes 3 hours. Call 02 936 2852-66 for more information.
By Train:
From Bangkok: Ordinary northern-route (Bangkok-Chiang Mai) trains leave Bangkok's Hua Lamphong Railway Station at 7.05 a.m. and 8.30 a.m. Both are third class only. Rapid trains leave the station 5 times a day (Travel time is 2.5 hrs.) For more updated schedules and reservations, call 1690, 0 2223 7010, 0 22237020 or visit www.railway.co.th.

It's a quick walk down to the train station, just 8min down the road, and you probably can cut that by half if you run. There are also trains (frequent) and buses (even more frequent) to Ayutthaya from the respective stations.
I think they just upped the price, the bus to Lopburi from Bangkok cost me 98 baht on an air-conditioned bus. I don't think there are any more 'ordinary' buses running on the normal schedule.

Without caps, it would be useless to speculate on the temple; there's just too many (http://bangkok.sawadee.com/temples.htm) of them (also from the same portal, a useful visual dictionary (http://www.sawadee.com/thailand/temple/index.htm)).

The previous seasons have already narrowed down the search for us for the temples, since I doubt they will repeat the exact same location. Erawan Shrine most definitely wouldn't be visited again - it was partially destroyed by a mad-man (http://www.thailandqa.com/forum/showthread.php?t=9298) in March 2005 and is undergoing reconstruction.

If TAR is keen on visiting semi-famous temples instead of obscure ones (there are billions more in Bangkok), I'd say Wat Saket (built on an artificial hill and requires a climb up) is a good bet. But could it simply be that TV Guide messed up and the temple is in Lopburi?
On the insects, ITA on the grasshoppers! There's no specific place I can think of that teams can go to though, they're kind of everywhere (mostly street vendors)... Eating monkeys's mostly a Chinese thing, I guess. They half worship monkeys in Lopburi. Eating it in front of the locals would be result in... some problems. (See the Erawan Shrine link for more details.)

Erm, let me see what can i help in that 'INSECT DELIGHT' Fast Forward: as an asian.
I think is either grasshopper, cockroaches, worms, crickets, and many other more.
From the word"Delight" i think what they will be eating will be 2 or more insects, which makes it a delight.
For the temple wise, i am thinking they will be going to a temple near Loburi. As Thailand has more than thousands of temples.

I wonder which team has a melt down. Now if it was mental, it really good be any team. As for physical, who. We have no real idea if all four teams are left or its down to three already. If its four, I would speculate theat its eitehr Monica or BJ. Again that assumes those two teams are still in.
Physically I can't see Eric and Jeremy having a meltdown or Ray and Yolanda. Mental yes, physical no.
So that would really surprise me. It would be intereseting as well

One thing for sure, the teams will not be driving themselves in Bangkok which has some of the worse traffic jams in the entire world. I remember sitting there in a taxi going no where fast for over an hour!!! (Would have drived FranBerry crazy in no time at all.) I agree there are just too many temples in Bangkok to be able to isolate one now without more visual help.
FastForward food challenge! Two teams. The BeachBums can't. MO/JO tried one and lost out, would they try again? That leaves The Hippies and RaYoYo. The Hippies would try anything; so that leave Yolanda as the question mark?
Anticipate that Ep 10 is an NEL so that leaves four teams to monkey around in Thailand.

What I still can't understand is what in the world one team (most likely MO/JO) is doing in Adelaide. There are all kinds of flights from Darwin (DRW) to Bangkok (BKK) which connect through Singapore (SIN) or Sydney (SYD).
If there is a YIELD this week in Ep 10, then I expect to see a FF next week in Bangkok. Don't believe there has ever been a FF after we get to the final 3 with no more eliminations. This would certainly give one team a super advantage over the other final two teams.

Onlookers at Adelaide Airport on Sunday wondered what all the fuss was about when a desperate-looking couple attempted to book a capacity Singapore Airlines flight.
They also happened to be young, good-looking Americans carrying only backpacks, with a TV crew filming their every move.
They had boarding passes for a flight to Sydney, and after being told the Singapore Airlines flight was full, they ran back to the domestic terminal (bet they're wishing the new terminal was in operation).
My guess is that the team was stuck on a multi-leg and tried (but failed) to make some time with Singapore Air. SA has only one flight out of town--SQ230--and it leaves at 1205. So, working backwards, I looked for DRW-ADL-SYD-BKK multilegs that arrived in Adelaide before Sunday noon. The only thing I could find (that didn't go through Sydney first) was Qantas 82, leaving Darwin at 0535.

Do you think they'd try to fit Ayer's Rock in, which prompts teams to leave from Adelaide? (Trying to add Uluru and Adelaide en route to Bangkok would skyrocket the producers' budget though.)
Trying to connect through Singapore at this time of the year is probably the worst possible idea. It's in the middle of the school holidays for Singapore, and billions of kids and their families are shuttling back and fro Australia during this time of the year. I seriously doubt any team would be able to make it to Singapore through the national carrier.

Let me see what can i can do as i am a Singaporean:
Given the date of that Australia To Thailand route: between 25-29 November 2005, that week is exactly school holidays at that week, cause Singapore kids were given 5 weeks holiday starting from the last week of November to the 2/3 day of Janurary.
I doubt many will will travel from Australia to Singapore, as many of the citizens here will travel from Singapore To Australia and not vice versa.
BTW: neobie are you a singaporean as well.

Not me I actually prefer three teams in the final 3 hours. I think it would be a nice change to have the elimination in the previous episode and that all the rest just feature the final three teams.
Just to throw off are expectations.

I'm in partial agreement with mswood. The three teams before the finale was great. No more eliminations, it was all about placement. But that was before there was mugging by Phil.
Since the mugging, the rest of me agrees with Kogs, because seeing a team lose because they had to waste time they didn't have to beg would be very depressing. Fortunately, TAR7 finale was exciting and got a pass because Uchenna/Joyce won anyway (too bad it wasn't a double leg like the season that followed it). Plus, like TAR2, the first half was only 45 minutes I think.
Maybe we'll be down to 3 teams, and have a week in-between the final Philimination and the finale, like for TAR1 & TAR4 (although those were only 1 hour). Either that, or have the final Philimination next week, but give everyone $1 at the end.

Well, barring that neither team wins the FF, looks like the Hippies are safe. Also, MoJo will probably advance to the finals without ever winning a leg (all they have to do is place 2nd or 3rd), while E/J don't and they've won the most. Seeing all three teams at the RB is pretty scary, but it's still E/J's game to lose. The big ?'s are: How the team that didn't win the FF manage to catch up, and how MoJo manage to catch up.
The more I think of the blue adidas, the more I'm feeling the pain that E/J are the decoy team. However, what would be helpful is knowledge of when they arrived or were spotted in Alaska (what date), and at what points in the past would a decoy team run a decoy race before they have to be back in End City. If E/J were in fact spotted the day before the end of the race, there's a chance that they are safe. It's just the fact that the sighting is so accurate, but right now it's difficult to tell whether or not E/J make it through this leg. From the looks of the previews, they weren't breaking down, but were struggling, which leads me to believe that they've got the 4th-place edit.

My brother in law works for Alaska Airlines in Anchorage, and about half an hour ago he saw 2 guys go running through the airport with a camera guy and a sound guy following them. The only description I could get out of him was that they were 2 dudes dressed alike in matching gray sweaters and blue Adidas shoes, mid 20's, and they were looking for Northwest Airlines. They spoke to a native Alaska woman in her 50's who also works there and said they were headed to Denver. They went first to Northwest counter, then Continental, then back to Alaska Airlines.

My guess on the local tradition: removing footwear on the way into a temple.
I've seen the blue and white tall sign (in the Monica caps, on the left) before in Thailand! IIRC, it's an official thing, either a police or political district sign with a crest on it. Racking my brains to try to recall whether it is confined to a city or is all over Thailand.

Looking at the video it definately looks like Mo is walking beside a river. This pic shows a similar red stand with a sign. I'm looking for the building she is walking besides (in other shots) -- a temple or museum? Here is a map posted on the island.

“Nice guys finish last” quote from Tyler is probably in an interview referring to this past leg where Tyler continually tried to be “nice” only to get on the mat last – that’d be my guess at least. The quote being used in the promo virtually guarantees they won’t finish this leg last.

I think the picture of the Hippies, with full clothing, is recycled. So, no gettting dressed before turning in their belongings. Of course, they really do not have belongings except for the new top hat.

I'm ok with that then, because in my opinion it's because TPTB don't have any pictures of them doing tasks and don't want it to be obvious that they win the FF!!!!
They should make the FF winners do decoy tasks so they can put together better promos.

Very nice once again, mwooden! From the lighting/sky, it does appear that the Roadblock precedes the Detour. Speaking of the detour, right now, I think that Eric/Jeremy might've written their own death warrant (or rather Philimination warrent) if they ended up choosing the other Detour that's not the pots one. They could so easily do the pots one, but also, it depends on how far away the second option is. Despite how easy but long it'll take, it could be closer to the Pitstop, or not, and E/J could do something like get lost or go the wrong way. However, if they can keep their perfect streak of footraces alive, when it matters more than ever...just a little speculation here of the wonderful detective work y'all put together. Thanks!

In Thailand, teams make their way to an ancient temple where they find their next clue. Two Teams race for the Fast Forward and both are greeted with a gut-wrenching challenge aptly named "Insect Delight." Despite a teammate's encouragement, a physically demanding challenge proves to be too much for one Racer who breaks down.

Something I was thinking ... maybe the detour is Big Pots or Little Pots (I know we've already had big fish, little fish but anyway ...)

Good point, Sups, about the pots -- those pots Ray was looking thru were bigger, weren't they? Could be. Maybe the banana plantation is just a place to find a clue with no task involved.
The "despite" a teammate's encouragement makes me think MoJo are gonna switch their detour choice.
Also, I've been making minor changes to the episode spec above -- if anything major changes, I'll re-post.

But i do wonder if the holdup for the teams has anything to do with the celebration of the King's Birthday. Last time we went to Thailand in November / december i remember there were all kinds of celebrations and we sat in dead stopped traffic when the King came to visit the Phuket area. Everybody loves the king.

I've attached a kmz of the Wat Hua Lamphong. Just a mile west on Rama 4 road is the central train station (same name). This timetable (http://travel-online.to/srt/departure/north_d.htm) lists 3-hour train rides to Lop Buri (provided they take the train; Neobie wrote earlier that the bus system is excellent). The tuktuk caps look like a big city, so I'll guess the flight(s) arrive at night and they run into hours-of-operation at the temple.

Just a small opinion on the shoe/no shoes debate. Maybe BJ/T were allowed to get shoes for obvious sanitary (health) reasons, i'm pretty sure you could probably pick up some nasty stuff walking around in bare feet.
Assuming the pots are a detour, I can laugh at the thought of the teams asking for pot(s). :)
I'm sure the hippies would be happy if the race went through B.C and Amsterdam ;)

I've attached a kmz of Ko Kret island (not far from the airport, as it turns out). I've tried to match the caps to some of the coastal buildings, but no luck so far. As far as the golden buddha goes, the find Puddin made is looking good; there's a golden buddha near the Bangkok train station (Wat Traimit), but without some perspective in the caps it's hard to tell. Anyway, here's a map (http://www.travelfish.org/map_detail/thailand/bangkok_and_surrounds/ayutthaya/ayutthaya/32) of Ayutthaya showing the location of the buddha temple, the elephant rides which are just down the street (the kraal, as Neobie noted, is northwest of town), and of course the 7-11.

this has to be eating some lovely bug dish. looking at the three teams that can go for it, we have the hippies who i'm guessing will eat anything to stay in the race and have fun doing it. ray and yolanda who would give it a real try. i can not see monica even attempting this. so i think that it will be a race between ray and yolanda and bj and tyler. if they arrive at the same time, i'd say the boys win. if ray and yolanda get enough of a lead there, they could take it. but looking at the vidcaps, the hippies get the ff.

I had wondered if that was Ray with the big pots because of the clothes. I couldn't find those long blue shorts at all. With the sandals maybe it is a demonstrator because why would Ray be in sandals????
I think we can place these in Ko Kret. Same green cloth awning between alleyways in #1 and 2. The small temple in #3 is not Wat Hua Lamphong because of the background and the railing. It also looks like Ko Kret.

I agree with the spec about recycled caps at the end of the video and Puddin's observation that the guy at the pots is not Ray, but a local. Also, I had thought it was MoJo heading up the steps to the "wooden temple" where the people are sitting on the rug, but you guys are right -- it's E&J...

Check out the Ko Kret alley pic -- same green tarp as in the shot with Eric running. Just realized that that's Joseph with his goofy Indiana Jones hat running behind Eric, so we know those teams are close when they get to Ko Kret.
Also, I think you're right about the location of that building with the wooden porch. Based on the walkway they come up to it on and the vegetation, I'm wondering if it's at the plantation. Check out the pic of E/J running up the steps of that building vs. the one of Jo running thru the plantation.

The only real kink I see in this is (and I'm having a hard time trying to explain this -- even to myself):
I don't think the teams would arrive at the actual roadblock and have to wait for hours of operation. If so, why would teams run off to a FF location when they are already standing at the roadblock? AND, how could Monica think they got there first if they were standing around waiting for the park to open?
I think the overnight hours of operation is for some other landmark. Maybe in Lopburi but could also be at the elephant place which is about 30 miles south/southeast of Lopburi (in between there and Bangkok).

As for the roadblock, maybe they are just told to go to the monkey temple location, where they arrive at night and wait for the hours of operation. Then in the morning when it opens, they run in and get the clue for roadblock/fast forward? I dunno.
It does seem like there's a big gap in the schedule between arriving in Bangkok and arriving in Lopburi at night...

My problem with having a FF/roadblock clue at the monkey festival is that we see 3 teams at the monkey festival and we know that 2 team compete for the FF. If all the teams are bunched at the monkeys (waiting for it to open), then the FF loser should be significantly behind.
Too bad we don't have a monkey icon for this thread.

gator, we see the 3 teams doing the monkey task at the same time, but E&J are significantly further along. Makes me think that the teams were bunched there, got the FF option, and E&J knew they couldn't do it so they got started. Then either RaYo or Mojo (leaning toward Mojo) chose to do the FF, saw what it was, and quickly came back to the roadblock. That's why E&J's "feast" is further along than theirs, but why they're all there together too.
puddin, I haven't been keeping track but seems like E&J have gotten the vast majority of the titles, yeah?

I'm guessing it's probably at the Pitstop, where somehow MoJo beats E/J to the Pitstop (likely due to being held up, but not in danger of losing), and MoJo had no idea of the fact that BJ/T did the FF (which sounds odd based on everything we've got thus far). Then, Jeremy says, You though wrong, then, upon realizing that someone obviously went for the FF.

This almost looks like Jo is just running up like he is just arriving. Maybe they went for the FF and are getting there last. At the roadblock Eric is way ahead of both Yolanda and Jo thats why I'm having a hard time believing its the first task of the day and they were all waiting for an opening time.

Yeah, we've got teams bunched outside the fence and then we've got Jeremy/Monica inside the fence waiting while the others do the roadblock. The bunching still makes me think this has to be the first task of the day, and as for why Yo is so far behind Eric with the task... here's a possibility...
Maybe Eric's strategy is to cut the fruit, then put it on the table immediately in the right order (dumb) and Yo's strategy is to cut all the fruit first, then put it all on the table at once (smart). Eric's way, the monkeys are gonna get into it before he's done and Yo's way, she can get it all set up on the table at once & the monkeys don't get it. This would make it LOOK like Eric is ahead, though. Just a thought...

I disagree with his departure times. When the first team arrived on the dock, RaYoYo, the shadow of the signpost was about four boards long; when the other three teams arrived the shadow was only two boards. Thus as the time went on the shadow got shorter which happens as the sun approaches its apex at noon; so I deduce that the teams arrived before noon. My guess is that RaYoYo arrived at about 11:30AM and the other teams arrived at about 11:45 to 12:30 which would be their departure times. But teams will bunch up again at the airport waiting for flights to Bangkok most likely connecting through Sydney. It will be night when they arrive. The first clue takes them to that temple in Bangkok which was in the promo after Ep 10. Have you identified it? Is it the Wat Hau Lamphong Temple? The clue here takes them to Lopburi, Thailand. Here they will find the FF to go somewhere for the bug eating event or proceed to Pra Prang Sum Yat Temple. And here they will find the roadblock while the other two teams are chasing bugs.
During the Detour event which entails carrying pots notice in the Wednesday promo that in the first shots Mo is wearing her backpack while she struggles with balancing the pots and in the distance ahead of her Jo is also wearing a backpack. In later shot, he has left his backpack somewhere and is now carrying the pots without it.
Since neither BJ nor Tyler are seen in the preparation of the monkey feast while Eric, Jo and Yo are we must deduce that The Hippies have won the FF and have lept from last to first.
Side note without any clothing of note: thin shirts and shorts for BJ I wonder how they will fare in Tokyo (November chill!) and in Alaska (even colder) and Denver?

Up until know I couldn't figure out how the flights would work or how a team was spotted in Adelaide on Sunday the 27th. We were assuming that teams traveled on the 26th to be in Lopburi for the festival on the 27th. Since the teams spotted in Adelaide can't be BJ/T (backpacks) and all other teams are seen in Lopburi at the same time, I believe we have a
48 hour pitstop in Darwin. (edited to correct, I meant 36 hour). Add if the shots we're seeing with the monkeys was on the 27th there would be crowds everywhere. I believe they are cutting up leftover fruit!
Now for the flights. If teams traveled on the 26th as originally suspected then a 5:30 a.m. flight was available through Singapore which would get them into Bangkok around noon (too early). But on Sunday the 27th that flight isn't available. However, at 5:35 a.m. teams can fly to Sydney via Adelaide or Melbourne. The flight to Adelaide arrives at 9:05 a.m. There are many flights from Adelaide and Sydney. In every case, teams would not arrive in Bangkok until 9-11 p.m.
I also think that the teams split up and took different flights. Perhaps MoJo and E/J traveled together and thought they beat the other teams with good flights (MoJos statement on thinking they were first).
I can do some further flight checking later but must go now for a day of shopping! :woohoo:

Hi Puddin, I'm doing a lot of non-computer work this weekend. But I did do a shadow estimate back in December when we had the first preview. I can't find it now. I think it was something like 9:30 am for the monkeys. The shadow in the pics above is also the 8 to 10 am kind of time if that camera direction is accurate.

From what I know, the elephants DO NOT go into the water at Ayutthaya. The river that surrounds the town resembles more a canal than what you see in the previews.

Hi gingher, I'm a newbie to both RFF and TAR (don't watch much TV at all) and I also hope that MoJo will make the F3. Mo's emotions don't bother me at all (we can't all be hard-asses) and she has more than carried her weight and has not balked (well maybe a bit afraid of the lobster) at undertaking the challenges before her. IMHO they are still in the race because she stood up to, and corrected Jo's "wayward" travel. I am also rooting for the "nasty" Fratboys and Hippies to make F3.

Been flipping through Lonely Planet, and the only place I can find that offers elephants as a major attraction (other than Ayutthaya, where I don't think the elephants go into the water, and Pattaya, where they're just kitsch) is Kanchanaburi, which TAR1 covered in a haste. They mostly only offer elephant riding tours, though, but these definitely enter the river at some point.

Yet, remember that elephant riding itself is a recycled task, from the abandoned Detour option of Beast (of 'or Boat') in Chiang Mai.
There are no direct buses between Kanchanaburi and Lopburi. You'll have to catch a local bus to Sangklaburi first (took me 1.5h) then change to another brining you to the monkey town (another 1.5h). Another option is to go through Bangkok. This could explain the bunch-up waiting for Prang Sam Yot to open, as any task taking place in Kanchanaburi will mean an overnight stay before a task in Lopburi.
That would mean a very dragged out leg, though. So... ???

Clue: We see a veranda with two girls sitting before two asian style food tables at which you have to knell to eat. The Beach Boys come running up the steps as the title MISTAKES pops in over them. They then are told or realize that this the FF and they can't do it again. The Hippies arrive and eat their bugs at the tables waiting for them!!

And it matters not that MO/JO seem to try connecting through Adelaide as all teams seem to be together in Lop Buri waiting for Pra Prang Sum Wat to open.

Running out of time:
Checking through last five shows with only two FF's there is no set pattern which is followed: In two shows teams have choice of FF or travel info to go on to anoth er site (this also was true in TAR9 , EP 7: Plate Breaking or train to Corinth Istmus. In three shows it is choice of FF or DETOUR. There has not been a case of FF or ROADBLOCK. So if the FF is the choice here at the Prang Sam Yot Temple between FF or make a feast for the monkies (ROADBLOCK) it would be a first. But TPTB have been screwing with our minds this TAR so it may be.
From the looks of the light it looks to be first thing in the morning.
Guess is that when the arrive in Bangkok at night teams take cabs (night shots of The Hippies in a cab) to Wat Hau Lamphong Temple to find clue which sends them off by bus or train to Lop Buri a three hour trip. But it may be that they have to wait at the bus station in Bangkok since my info shows the first bus out is at 5:30AM and the last one left at 8:30PM. Trains are quicker (2.5 hours) but only run 5 times a day. More infor at: www.railway.co.th.
First time in days and I am still on. Hope the above make some kind of sense.

This very thought had crossed my mind about the frats accidentally going for the FF. The thing is these shots really seem to be on Ko Kret. If so, then the Ko Kret (and the detour) comes before LopBuri and the roadblock. Does this hold up since some are saying the shots in LopBuri look early morning with teams waiting outside the fence?
Maybe Neobi can help determine where Jeremy and Monica are standing. Based on the google earth image it looks like the only place buildings could be in the background is if they are standing against the west or south fence. If they are standing against the west fence it sure looks like late afternoon to me. (chateau????)

I think I now have where they are standing as well as where the tables are set up based on these pics. There is a intersecting road in Jeremy's background and a building in the background of Eric running towards his table. So Jeremy and Mo must be standing against the SOUTH fence. There are lots of good shadows in the shots for Chateau. Based on this it does appear to be morning afterall.
GMan, if the pics of the frats going up the steps is in KoKret then this can't be the FF. Maybe it is where teams first run to on the island to get their detour clue.

If this is just a place to pick up the next route marker in KoKrek, why are there two table set up for a bug feast and two girls kneeling there to wait upon whomever shows up. Don't know where the location is,but I am sure this is location for the FF.

Idea: they may go by boat to KoKrek to find next clue which is either FF to go to Ko Krek and find a particular coffee house whatever or go on to somewhere else where they will find the Detour: elephants or jugs.(This was pattern in other shows and in ep 7 or TAR9) This leads them to LopBuri and the money shines which is the Roadblock. Final pit stop is also in LopBuri.

If this is just a place to pick up the next route marker in KoKrek, why are there two table set up for a bug feast and two girls kneeling there to wait upon whomever shows up. Don't know where the location is,but I am sure this is location for the FF.
The main reason I can't see this as the FF is that E/J and Tyler and Ray are shown outside Wat Hau Lamphong Temple (wating for an opening????). When they get the clue BJ/T goes off to compete in the FF. If E/J also go to compete in the FF they would not be so far ahead of Jo and Yo at the roadblock. I don't see two tables set up - are they side-by-side?

Phra Prang Sam Yot
Located on Vichayen Road, approximately 200 meters from the railway station, Phra Prang Sam Yot is Lop Buri’s best known landmark and provincial symbol. FWIW, isn't it still probable to have more than one table set up at the fast forward since 3 of the 4 teams can go for it? It would make sense if you had a situation where all of the teams that could go for the FF would. Did that make sense?? I'm a lil screwy today :js:

I hear ya crusher. What I don't understand is in past TARs the first team to arrive gets to attempt it and if a second team shows up they have to wait and see if the first team was successful before they can even try.
Ex. TAR8 - The Gaghans had to wait below to see if the Paolos would bungee jump.
Ex. TAR7 - Rob and Amber couldn't climb the water tower until they were told if Ray and Deana had completed it.
In other words they didn't get to climb up and try to beat them at it. So I didn't understand why both MoJo and E/J were able to compete for the FF together. Anyone? Did they just change the FF rules on us this year????

Weren't some the first FF's a competition between 2 teams? the only one that stands out in my mind right now is in the first season with the Guido's and Nancy/Emily with the coins in the Buddhist temple.

On the issue of Fast Forward.
Some of them are set up so that only one person can perform the task at one time.
Those are usually stunt fast forwards. And I would think safety is the reason.
A lot of fast forwards are go and find something and we have seen multiple teams start this.
Times we have seen more then one team actually competiting for a fast forward.
Season 1 Nancy and Emily versus The Guidos.
Season 2 Sholya and Duyin verus Gary and Dave in vollyball.
But most of the Fast Forwards I have seen, are about finding something or locating something. And on these we see teams trying at the same time quite often. An obvious one here is The Twins versus Ken and Gerard in the first episode of the third season. THe seasons with many FAst Forwards (one almost every leg) had these types.
So yeah it just really depends on the Fast Forward. Again most anything that is a stunt is going to be one at a time. Things that are a search are going to be has many as attempt it.

Ko Kret
This wonderful natural haven is filled with small joys waiting to be discovered.
When you land at the pier, turn right and head away from the shops (save those for the afternoon) and wander along the elevated walkway which rings the island. You can spend most of the day on a leisurely walk, or rent bikes if you'd care to, but be sure to poke around as you wander. Beautiful old wooden buildings line both sides of the walkway. Monks in saffron robes stroll in quiet temple courtyards, where animist shrines sit astride soaring trees and Buddhist stupas. Village compounds are often decorated for upcoming festivals. Small, family-run shops are filled with treats and the colorful clutter of old-timey goods that are fast vanishing from modern urban neighborhoods. One home proudly displays dozens of marathon trophies won by a local sports hero.
Eventually the village gives way to emerald swathes of banana and coconut plantations. Stroll around the island and soak up this peaceful respite. You will hardly believe you are on the edge of Bangkok!
Eventually you'll complete the circular walkway and end up back in the village. Here you'll find small stalls selling Thai specialties like fresh fried shrimp cakes, kao chae jasmine scented rice in ice water eaten in combination with delicate savory treats, and lemon grass juice served in ceramic jars that you can take home with you. Speaking of ceramics, Ko Kret is famous for its red earthenware clay pottery, and you will see enormous walk-in kilns used for firing the wide variety of designs on sale. Local potters are happy to welcome you to their studios where you can watch artisans at work. This is a great place to pick up traditional cookware. Other shopping treats include home-made cosmetics and perfumes made by the Mon community.

If teams are in LopBuri before the 8 a.m. opening (which it appears they are) and they don't arrive in Bangkok until late the evening before, they must travel during the night. The earliest bus (5:30a.m) and the earliest train (7 a.m) would not have them there before 8 so are they left on their own to find transport or will the TPTB have arranged a charter bus?
I'll take a stab at it:
- Teams arrive in Bangkok between 9-10:45 p.m. on Sunday Nov. 27th with instructions to find Wat Hua Lamphong Temple.
- Teams travel via moto taxi and get clue from (in front of?) temple. Clue: Make your way to Prang Sam Yot Temple in LopBuri.
- Teams travel 2-3 hours to LopBuri and find the temple opens at 8 a.m. - grab some sleep
- Monday, Nov 28, 8 a.m. teams grab clue: Roadblock - prepare a feast for the monkeys; FF - participate in your own feast
- BJ/T and RaYo who were seen standing together at the entrance race off for the FF.
They both begin but RaYo see BJ/T are not struggling and going very quick so they decide to quit and hurry back to the roadblock.
- BJ/T complete FF and rush off to pitstop (back to Bangkok?)
- Eric finishes the roadblock first and receives clue: proceed to Ayutthaya
- Teams receive clue in Ayutthaya from elephant - clue: travel to KoKret.
- KoKret find cluebox: Detour- tote or toke (just kiddin :lol:)
Maybe the scenes of E/J going up the steps is some ceremonial task and is the other detour? (Note: If this scene is indeed the FF then I owe GMan an apology. Based on the fact that we see BJ/T standing at the Prang Sam Yot temple before opening the FF should be very close to there because the other team that went for it had time to run back and compete with the others at the roadblock.)
Or the detour could be big pots, little pots. In little pots teams must carry X amount of pots from point A to B. In big pots, teams must search through hundreds of pots.
- After completing the detour, teams receive clue to head to the pitstop in? (Bangkok????)

Good thinking! The detours are on KoKret and the pitstop could also be there on the old plantation. Wouldn't be the first time that the pitstop is running distance from the point of the final task. Puddin, are the elephants and KoKret (pot carrying detour) close enough to each other to be detours?

This is what Prang Sam Yot temple looked like on November 27th, 2005. That along with the Adelaide airport spoiler leads me to believe that teams traveled on Nov. 27th and the roadblock and detours are the following day. No background photos of teams at the temple show crowds or tents for the festival.
As for the Wat Hua Lamphong temple being shown in the daytime - maybe it is at the end of the leg instead of the beginning. After the detours in KoKret teams are told to find the temple in Bangkok. Could be where one team is slowed down for local traditions. Heck it could even be the pitstop!!!

Sups, you're right -- the timing makes sense if they get to Bangkok on 11/27 instead of 11/26. The night shots of the monkey festival could be the night of 11/27. There are some day shots with crowds too, though, like with the horse show. Maybe the horses are with the elephants in Ayutthaya?
If it does break this way, I think you're right -- the Bangkok temple could be the pitstop. That would make the Ko Kret plantation and the porch E/J are running on the other half of the detour with the pot-carrying the other option. I think that shot of the big pots might not be a detour option but just some footage they'll use when Phil gives background on Ko Kret pottery. If it goes this way, it also means MoJo switches detours -- we see them with the pots and also in the plantation.

I know its late but I AM BACK!!
Can't see how the teams would arrive in daylight. I could find only one flight from SYD that would arrive in the daylight: at 6:25AM via MEL on a Quantas/Thai flight leaving SYD at 6:45PM. Most all other flights arrive in the late evening: 7:25PM, 10:20PM, 10:45PM and 12:50AM.
Also what about those shots at night with the motocabs? and with Hippies and Yolanda in regular cabs at night (these could be repeat shots).
Fact that the Wat Hau Lamphong is shown in daylight is not significant since locations are often shown without regard to the actual times they are visited.
So it is a confusing situation to say the least. We do have most of the locations down: Wat Hau Lamphong, Ayutthaya Elephant Karel, Wat Prang Sam Yot in LopBuri, the Pottery Works on KoKret, and the Banana Plantation also on KoKret. We have some kind of ceremony waiting on the veranda of a building in Ko Kret but what goes on here? Could be the second part of the Detour; some kind of native ritual or ceremony. If that is so, where is the feast of Insect Delights??
And where is the pit stop in Ko Kret or back in Bangkok?
And one thing for sure - somebody goes home tonight. Ray and Yolanda?

If its RaYo they probably don't even make it to sequester beth , I know Meredith & Gretchen didn't , they were brought to Florida to stay in a hotel by the pitstop and were really disapointed .

I know they have. In my opinion, I liked it when he said "Will Be" which made it clear to the racers to give it their all (as well as scared the crap out of them). I understand that he changed it since people were able to catch onto whenever a leg was elimination or not, but the point I'm trying to make is that the leg before the finale (11th segment) has never been NEL except for Tars 5 & 6, where the previous leg was Elim. Oh well! :lol:

Maybe the scenes of E/J going up the steps is some ceremonial task and is the other detour? (Note: If this scene is indeed the FF then I owe GMan an apology. Based on the fact that we see BJ/T standing at the Prang Sam Yot temple before opening the FF should be very close to there because the other team that went for it had time to run back and compete with the others at the roadblock.)
Or the detour could be big pots, little pots. In little pots teams must carry X amount of pots from point A to B. In big pots, teams must search through hundreds of pots.
:yes:- After completing the detour, teams receive clue to head to the pitstop in? (Bangkok?)

So much for the "spoiler" with the sure bet info that RaYoYo would be gone tonight! Yeh, they are going all right..... on a spectacular vacation to Sydney, Crains, Barrier Reef, etc. etc. and getting to stay in Bangkok at a five star hotel tonight while the other teams camp out in some hostel.
The Hippies sure know how to beg. Did you catch the many wardrobe changes by BJ? Starts off with black underpants; gets long tights from Yolanda; gets hippy sort of long shorts; then ends up at the matt with long black pants. Also note that both get new hats to wear and by the time they reach the pitstop both are carrying loaded shopping bags stuffed with stuff!! Not bad for a team that started the day with nuttin.
And that info about one team with backpacks running around the airport in Adelaide sure was right on the ball. Got to be careful about what info is posted on these boards. But actually most of these rumors start elsewhere and not around here.
Next week should be fun. Looks like the teams may be paying avisit to Walt Disney World - Japan which is just a short ride from Tokyo center.

But then it says 11:17 am in a shot where BJ&T are actually in it so...I guess the 11:17 is more reliable.
Got that! Maybe the 11:32 is E&J's time. That clip gets used fro their finish too.
And here is Ray's watch at the finish, looks like 1:28 pm.

Maybe the timings is Ray purposely change, in order not to miss the pitstop time, some teams from other seasons, forgot to set their alarm clocks, and they got delayed of this mistake.

When the Hippies were racing to the pit stop, a clock was shown for a few seconds. If I remember correctly, the clock showed about 2:40 pm. (Hopefully someone will check this for me). Based on these watches, that clock shot was misleading. Hmmmm.

I'm watching that part right now and the clock DOES say 2:40. But we really don't know if that truly is the time that BJ&T are still racing. Could just be the editing to throw us off.

EPISODE 11
Luxury, I have some time to go to a local boxing class with a 210 pound trainer. My driver has arranged for me to get a good old fashioned boxing workout. Paying for some pain. Of course, I’ll need to avoid any black eyes, but I know it’ll recharge me.
This part of Australia is so extreme. We really are getting noticed here. We are trying to keep it a secret, but I don’t think that if people find out we were here and hear what we’ve done that they will be any less likely to watch. That said, it is nice to keep the challenges a surprise for viewers. With the internet that kind of information can be global in seconds…more hype and exposure for the show I guess.
Ah, some relief from the heat. When it rains here it is awesome. All of a sudden the temperature plummets, the sky blackens, there’s spectacular lightning, thunder and then this wonderful smell when the rain covers the bush. Let it rain!
My crew is suffering a bit today, our soundman with his back and the camera operator has picked up some food poisoning. I joked with him that we can now keep accurate time because he is throwing up on the hour. Man, it’s tough being sick when you still have to work. Both of them are pushing through. Especially hard at this stage of the Race when we are all tired. Leg 11 is like hitting the wall on a marathon. You can see the end, but it’s still a long way to go.
BJ got some help from the other teams, some pants from Yolanda and flip flops from Eric & Jeremy. Just as well as BJ would have had trouble getting through the airport. These guys are so relaxed and had no trouble getting some money from the locals. At one point BJ exposed his chest, but everyone is OK. They missed the first flight, but managed to find another option. Long night ahead.
The monkeys at the Roadblock were unbelievable. They have no fear whatsoever. When we got there they had just finished a feed and it looked like the aftermath of a serious food fight…think Animal House. We had to clean up to get our shot…can’t wait for the teams to experience this one.
The Fast Forward was tough. Talk about a mouthful. BJ & Tyler getting through that one is a little like the Caviar in Russia, season five. I really thought it was going to get the better of Tyler, but I got to give it to them--they went all out. One of them said, “What are we eating this for?” The other said, “A million dollars, a million dollars.” From first to last, they sure picked the right time to use their Fast Forward. I think Ray & Yolanda just realized BJ & Tyler were crazy enough to go through with it.
Waiting for the rest of the teams to come into The Marble Temple. It is truly mind blowing. I found out that the Buddhas here were collected from all over Thailand. The big one closest to the mat is over 2,000 years old. The white marble came from Italy about 200 years ago. The attention to detail is staggering.
Found out that Monica is really having a tough day. They were the only team to pick the ‘Move It’ Detour. It is very physical. Monica chose to carry the board, loaded with pots, the same way she carried the fish in the ‘Big Fish’ Detour in Sicily. That kind of weight on the biceps is just not practical, no matter how strong you are. That’s what the shoulders are for. Those on location said Joseph was very understanding when Monica got upset. In the end nothing could help MoJo stay in it and I had to eliminate them. Now Yolanda is the only woman left in the Race.

Some final thoughts on one of the better episodes in this TAR go around:
MO/JO just had all kinds of bad luck today. They got to the Bangkok bus station and got the wrong advice about where to get tickets for the bus to LopBuri so they did not catch the midnight departure which they could have done. Then they were told that the first bus left at 5:20AM while another bus line left at 4:20AM. And when they got to Koh Kret they were given the wrong directions to the Buddah Gardens. And then, of course, they picked the wrong detour task. Their luck just ran out today.
Some strange editing going on at the pit stop. Phil receives travelocity envelope from Tyler and his watch reads 11:33. When he tears it open it now seems that his watch now says 12:15. A little re staging of events no doubt (and if his watch reads 11:15 as some think, it still is a strange edit). When the Hippies arrive at the mat it is close to the temple wall - only two squares away- and in the shade. When the Beach Boys arrive the mat is now out in the sun a good distance greater from the temple wall. It may have been that by the time Phil got there after doing his standups in LopBuri and at KohKert the crew did not have too much time to set things up properly before the Hippies arrived.
Also did you also hear Yolanda say "Come on Gold Gnome" even before Phil opens the envelope? Now how did Yo know that this was what was in the sealed envelope? A little creative editing after the fact?
Notice that the bus that The Beach Boys and RaYoYo left at midnight and they did not arrive in LopBuri at the monkey temple until 5:45AM. That's a trip of 5 hours and 45 minutes. But the Hippies left at 4:20AM and arrived at the temple before it opened at 8:00AM so they took only 3 and a half hours to do the same trip.

It took the Hippies only 40 minutes to clear through immigaration and customs and get to the bus station after arriving in Bangkok, while on the other hand it took MO/JO one hour and 23 minutes. (Obviously having no baggage to check in customs does speed things along!!)
The Hippies must have really collected a pile of money in Darwin to pay for the bus to LopBuri, taxi to the restaurant, and then taxi 95 miles back to Bangkok!!!
And the clock in Bangkok showing 2:40 most likely was shot earlier by the local crew doing background and atmospheric shots.
