Chateau, I always look forward to your time of day analysis. I was surprised to see it's not as late as it looked for David and Lori. 
The MoJo time is interesting. I was suspicious of the editing so I rewatched the video. When we are looking at the sunset and the camera scrolls down (apparently to Monica), there is a quick cut to her. Since we don't see any sun when she is shown it may not be a continuous shot. Can you look at Jo's pic and see if you come up with the same timeframe?

Kind of an off-topic question: Is the 6 roadblocks per person rule not happening in this race?? I ask this because Phil never mentioned it and because Michelle has not done one single roadblock yet! (and there were at least 2 roadblocks which she should have done)

The "Here" in the Google Earth image should say "From Here".  What I means is the start of the arrow is where the camera is.  I know I need a better system.  I just drew the arrow from where I figured the camera was over to the tip of the dome because that was my point of triangulation.

Some questions:  

1. Why are Fran/B running past the Massimo Theater, isn't it a little late?

2. If there is a FF, where do you think it will be placed? And if Fran/B use the FF, do you think they will come in first?

3. The cap with the word "Art", what does the time tell us about the order of the teams? Who's first?

4. Can we assume Eric/J are in the lead given the time (cap on path)?

5. The cap with David between 5:30 and 5:46 pm - I don't think the time matters, we see the completed statues and there doesn't seem to be any team around. Unless there are unassembled statues to the back of Dave (which is unlikely)?

How sure of the time are we here?  If this is the Teatro Massimo, Palermo's famous Opera House (The third largest in the world) then according to my map of Palermo the front with its Corinthian columns faces toward the sea or about Northeast.  The sun is behind the building (check the angle of the shadows) and therefore it looks like a late morning sun on November 14.  My estimate would be closer to noon or 12:30PM.  In this shot Barry and Fran seem to be walking not running; earlier we saw them running past The Nerds (this could be after they get the FF and are in a hurry to get wherever they have to go.

Everyone is now identified doing one of the two Detour tasks EXCEPT Barry and Fran. Wring we have: The Hippies, Double Dees, Lake/Michelle,The Nerds, and the Beach Boys.  Ring we have MO/JO and Ray/Yolanda.

There is a shot of Lake in front of a  Bata Shoe Store.  There are five such stores listed in Palermo located at Via Ruggero Seventh, Via Rome 196, Via Strasburgo, via Maqueda 336 and Via Tsereteu 67A.  My map only shows by name Via Roma which is a main street about two blocks from the harbor.

My guess since most of the teams seem to be together at one time or another is that they all made the 7:05AM Lufthansa flight connecting through Rome with Altalia arriving in Palermo at 11:20AM

Cab to find the Teatro Massimo the first task after arriving?  Then to the Detour. Get car and drive the A29 Motorway southeast to Segesta.  There find the parking lot and walk to the Segesta Theater (NOT TO THE DORIC TEMPLE WHICH IS THE PIT STOP) could be confusing since the roads are closed to auto traffic and you must walk.  The temple is on a path down hill about 1.2 miles or a 20 minute walk.

Note that Lake is driving a STICK SHIFT car!!!  Good thing the sisters are no longer with us.

Chateau:  I think you have the angle of the sun wrong in your drawing.  You have the sun shinning on the Colonnade Facade of the Theater. Our picture of Fran and Barry shows that the front of the theater is in dark shade.  So the sun I think is coming from the lower left of your picture, not the lower right.  Just my thoughts.  Also the Piazza Giuseppe Verdi is to the front of the theater (right) not above it which is probably Via Volturno

The shot of the Palm tree and ocean is just atmospheric and could have been shot anytime

I think the next task is near the theater so that's why they ran. They have no backpacks either. Other teams use the taxi.

Had a clearer shot of BJ and Tyler running and jumping as they enter the Segesta Theater; you can see that the sun is to their left and that their shadows are fairly long which to me indicates late afternoon.  FYI the Theatre is a semicircle with a diameter of 207 feet hewn out of the top of Mount Barbaro.  A curious feature is that the stage faces north, probably to allow a view of the hills and sea.

GMan, I think you are right about the shot of Massimo Theater being 'atmospheric'.  It's the kind of shot they may use to tell us that this is the destination upon arrival in Palermo.  That's why it is an early morning shot.  Nobody is there yet.

Lack of back packs when F&B run up?  Well, okay maybe the place is just an intermediate destination.  But still they could shoot it in the morning before teams got there.

About the time estimate for when F&B arrive there.  All of the guess work goes into estimating the angle of shadows cast by  legs (people and animal) with respect to that front of the theater.  I'm away from my notes right now but using the GE image of the place and my crappy broken protractor I measure the column face to the theater to be facing 60 degrees azimuth.  Those leg shadows point a little more northward than that, say by 10 degrees, resulting in 50 degrees as their azimuth.  That means the solar azimuth was 50 + 180 = 230 deg.  That happend at 3:16 pm.

If you want me to try a different estimate for the leg shadows I  will.
