Adam&Rebecca fly into first 1/11 Recap
« on: January 12, 2005, 12:10:43 AM »
s the six remaining Teams made their way from Hungary to the French island of Corsica, formerly dating couple Adam & Rebecca claimed victory by winning the Fast Forward in a walk along the ocean floor. Dating actors Hayden & Aaron fared less well when frustration set in after they became lost en route to both the Detour and the Roadblock. The pair's bickering exacerbated the situation, resulting in a last-place finish. Luckily for Hayden & Aaron, this was the second of three pre-determined non-elimination legs.

FLYING TO FRANCE
Departing the Pit Stop in first place at 11:12 pm, married pro wrestlers Lori & Bolo opened their first clue to discover they must travel seven miles to the neighborhood of Budafok to find a winery. Once there, they had to follow the marked path to a 14,000-gallon wine cask, the largest in Hungary, for their next clue. Arriving at the winery, a disappointed Lori & Bolo found that it didn't open until 10:00 the following morning, which would allow the other five Teams to catch up.

After a night of sleeping on the sidewalks of Budapest, the Teams sprinted through the low-ceilinged corridors of the winery after the gate opened at the stroke of 10 am. Leading the way to the Route Marker, Lori & Bolo and Hayden & Aaron opened their clues to learn they must fly over 1,300 miles to the town of Ajaccio on the French island of Corsica. Once there, they had to drive four miles to the house in which Napoleon Bonaparte was born to find their next clue.

As the hunt for the quickest route to Corsica began, Teams veered off in several different directions. Married entrepreneurs Jonathan & Victoria wisely stopped at a travel agency to book tickets on a Malev flight that would get them into Corsica at 6:40 pm. Being first to the airport, Lori & Bolo snagged the second and final pair of tickets on the Malev flight. There was no love lost between the two Teams now in the lead. Jonathan commented about Lori, "God, do I hate her. Just looking at her with her masculine voice." About Jonathan, Lori remarked, "He gets on your nerves after a while."

Shut out of the Malev flight, Adam & Rebecca, engaged models Freddy & Kendra, and Hayden & Aaron all had to settle for a 7:15 pm Air France flight. Stopping at a pet grooming salon, long-distance dating couple Kris & Jon also made reservations on Air France, but almost missed the flight when they were told at the airport they couldn't be issued tickets because the system was already closed. Luckily, the savvy ticket agent found a loophole allowing the pair to join the other three Teams on the flight.
Landing in Corsica in first place at 6:40 pm, Jonathan & Victoria and Lori & Bolo grudgingly agreed to work together to find the house in which Napoleon was born. After asking for information, the unlikely alliance walked to the house to discover that it closed at 6 pm and wouldn't open until 9:00 the next morning. As night fell, the second plane containing the other four Teams landed in Corsica and learned that the house opened the following morning.

DIVING FOR FIRST
At 9 am, the Teams walked up the stairs of Napoleon's house, where they received their next clue. First in line, Adam & Rebecca opened their clue to discover the second and last Fast Forward on this Race. Teams trying for this Fast Forward had to make their way to a harbor and don old-style diving suits weighing more than 100 pounds each. Both Team members must walk across the ocean floor to a lobster trap to claim the Fast Forward award.

As Adam & Rebecca raced to the harbor, Lori & Bolo opened their clue to learn they must drive 100 miles to the beach city of Calvi. Once there, they needed to find Camp Rafalli, a boot camp for the French Foreign Legion, for their next clue Jonathan & Victoria, unaware that Adam & Rebecca were already putting on the diving suits, hurried to the harbor to discover that they would only have a chance to win the Fast Forward if Adam & Rebecca failed in their first attempt. Not wanting to take the chance, Jonathan & Victoria raced to the cars to join the other four Teams in the drive to Calvi. During the drive, Jonathan blamed his wife for not getting the Fast Forward, shouting, "I'm pissed off! Your fault, Victoria! One hundred percent!"

Hayden & Aaron also got off to a rocky start when Hayden complained that she couldn't drive the car, forcing Aaron to do it. Then, in the backseat, she was unable navigate for a very frustrated Aaron, who now had to read the map as well. Their situation worsened when they lost sight of model allies Freddy & Kendra in the car ahead of them, forcing them to navigate on their own.

With the five Teams en route to Calvi, Adam & Rebecca prepared to take the big plunge. While Rebecca gracefully descended to the bottom and skillfully walked across the ocean floor to grab a clue in the lobster trap, Adam remained bobbing on the surface, ballooning up because he was unable to release the air valve on his suit. As Rebecca resurfaced, Adam was pulled back to shore, having failed to complete his half of the task. Still concerned at the daunting challenge, Adam faltered, prompting Rebecca to urge, "Why don't you show what you can do? Just get down there and do it."

After putting his helmet back on, Adam slowly descended into the ocean for a second time, remarking, "I really don't like this." Reaching the ocean floor, Adam began his walk to the lobster trap with Rebecca encouraging him via radio. Soon, Adam reached the trap and completed the Fast Forward for his Team. Opening their clue, Adam & Rebecca learned they were to take a small plane to the city of Calvi and drive to La Pietra, the Pit Stop for this leg of the Race. As the pair took off in the small plane, roles were reversed when Rebecca became nervous and asked to hold Adam's hand.

HITTING THE WALL
Arriving at Camp Rafalli in first place, Jonathan & Victoria and Lori & Bolo opened their clue to discover a Detour, which required Teams to choose between "Climb Up" and "Fly Behind." To complete Climb Up, each Team member had to use a mechanical ascender to climb a 45-foot rock wall. Once at the top, they had to find the terrace, where a French Legionnaire would give them a medal. After getting the medal, the Teams had to rappel 75 feet down to receive their next clue. Climbing the wall with the ascender would be technically and physically difficult, but if Teams figure it out and climb the wall, they could finish quickly. Teams choosing Fly Behind had to choose a Zodiac boat. One teammate had to ride behind on an inflatable raft while the other rode inside the Zodiac and directed the driver to search among 25 buoys for one with a clue attached. While the task was not technically difficult, only 12 of the 25 buoys contained a clue.

As Lori & Bolo suited up to climb the wall and Jonathan & Victoria took a Zodiac in the water, Adam & Rebecca landed in Calvi. After driving to La Pietra, the pair met host Phil Keoghan at the rocks along the shore and stepped onto the mat in first place. For their efforts, Adam & Rebecca won a vacation to the sunny Caribbean, compliments of American Airlines' website, AA.com. On her teammate, Rebecca commented, "I think Adam is just starting to tap into what he is capable of, and it's really building his confidence."

With Kris & Jon and Freddy & Kendra joining Lori & Bolo on the Camp Rafalli wall, the race to the top began. Freddy cruised with incredible ease while muscleman Bolo struggled with the ascender. He eventually made it to the top, followed closely by Kris and Kendra.

While Jon and Lori climbed for their Teams, Freddy & Kendra received their medal from the Legionnaire and completed the descent down the wall. Opening their clue, the engaged models learned they had to drive nearly 10 miles to a winery in the village of Zilia to find the next Route Marker. Soon, Kris & Jon and Lori & Bolo completed the Detour as well and began the drive to Zilia.

As the hopelessly lost Hayden & Aaron finally arrived at the Detour to choose Climb Up, Jonathan & Victoria continued to flounder in the ocean. Initially, Victoria led the Zodiac driver to a marker that wasn't even a buoy, but eventually she spotted one. When Jonathan dove down, he saw this was a buoy without a clue, forcing Victoria to continue the search on the expansive water. After shouting about the futility of the Detour choice, Victoria spotted another buoy. Luckily for the volatile pair, this one had a clue attached and they headed back to shore.

MAKING WINE
As last-place Hayden & Aaron finished the Detour, Freddy & Kendra arrived at the winery in Zilia to find a Roadblock. In this Roadblock, one Team member had to stomp 55 pounds of grapes with their feet. After squeezing out enough juice to fill five wine bottles, the stomper must pour out a glass of juice and drink it to receive the next clue. Electing to stomp for her Team, Kendra jumped into the barrel and began to make juice. As Kendra filled up her fourth bottle, Jonathan & Victoria arrived on the scene. With Jonathan stomping for his Team, Kendra completed the task, drank her glass of juice and opened the clue instructing her and Freddy to proceed 18 miles to the Pit Stop at La Pietra.

While Jonathan appeared to be cruising through the Roadblock as quickly as Kendra, Kris and Bolo joined him, electing to stomp grapes for their Teams. However, things turned sour for Jonathan when, with only one half of a bottle left to fill, his barrel became plugged. After Jonathan removed a rock from his funnel, his bottle still would not fill, allowing Kris to finish ahead of him. Even Lori & Bolo, bickering through the entire Roadblock, completed the task before Jonathan & Victoria, who were now in fifth place.

While the situation seemed bleak for the squabbling Jonathan & Victoria, it was even worse for the perpetually lost Hayden & Aaron. In frustration, Hayden turned a critical eye on Aaron, saying, "You don't care at all. We're going to get last right now." Aaron replied, "You don't have to act like that." As Jonathan & Victoria finally completed the Roadblock with Victoria commenting, "It's over for us anyways," Hayden & Aaron finally arrived at the winery.

RACE FOR THE MAT
As Freddy & Kendra stepped onto the mat in second place, Aaron quickly finished the Roadblock for his Team and hoped to catch up with Jonathan & Victoria. By taking a short cut, Hayden & Aaron had a glimmer of hope that they could avoid a last-place finish.

With Lori & Bolo and Kris & Jon arriving in third and fourth place respectively, Jonathan & Victoria found themselves stuck in traffic. Hayden & Aaron appeared to be gaining ground by taking the shorter, alternate route. In the end, it wasn't enough, as Jonathan & Victoria stepped onto the mat in fifth place. Arriving at La Pietra in last place, Hayden & Aaron were met by Phil Keoghan, who informed the stunned, elated pair that this was the second of three pre-determined non-elimination legs. After handing over all his Team's money, Aaron commented on his partner's inability to stay calm and focused: "I'm feeling a little angry that this behavior from Hayden keeps happening. It frustrated me." Hayden agreed, "We're not working together. Today, that was probably my doing, and I could have cost us the whole Race."

Thanks for posting Puddin.  I always enjoy reading these.  I am so glad that the team of Adam and Rebecca were chosen to be one of the teams for the Amazing Race.  Just about every week, Adam gives me a good laugh over something he has done.  My two favourite hysterical moments is when they were in Sweden and he was coming down the zip line at that ski jump and he was yelling "I love you mommy" while he was swinging his legs like a big crybaby.  :()() :()() ^:)^ And the second was when he puffed up like a big dough boy in his diving suite and just floated in the water yelling, I can't reach my valve and then one of the guys had to dive in to rescue him.  :()() :()() :()() :()() :()().  So congrats to the casting team that picked Adam and Rebecca.  I do like Rebecca and I think she is an excellent competitor and according to my hubby, she has great abs.  (#) **:)**
