As many players on Survivor learn the hard way, China Airlines and EVA Air are not in the same alliance.

In my opinion, after the charter plane fiasco during TAR 35, it will be a long, long, long time before TAR goes back to using charter planes. In case you don't know, they had a short range charter plane to get them to the first few legs in South America then they were booked for a longer range plane to get them overseas. Unfortunately, the second charter plane never materialized and TAR 35 was stuck in South America and the Caribbean for the rest of the legs until the Finale. They had to arrange locations and improvise legs on the fly and apparently it wasn't up to normal TAR standards.

Im trying to stay unspoiled this season. key word trying, but the one thing that I wanted to know was if they were going back to using non...private planes. I am so excited low key. I hope they go back to more variety in terms of on-the-ground transport as well (i.e. taxis, trains, buses)

I also had not but i wasnt here much during 35 filming. I saw that it was just south america which i found rather weird but i didnt know that there was a backstory to it. it does make a lot more sense now.

How sure are we that they flew into SGN for this leg today? We're back to "normal" but even without the impact of  COVID I'm not sure they willing to subject teams to either a 3 hour taxi ride or a public bus.

Teams could've flown directly into Can Tho yesterday on either of these:
(6/18)

VN 610 BKK HAN 1155 1400
VN 1207 HAN VCA 1625 1840, where they likely get stopped by hours of operation

VN 618 BKK HAN 1905 2055
VN 1201 HAN VCA 0705 0855 (+1)

If they flew BKK to SGN there's several flights throughout the day and several busses through all hours to get to Can Tho (to say nothing of charter busses or vans)

SPEC-

Given the timing of sightings in Jaipur (particularly the one of teams queued up in the morning, my best guess on flights is:

FD655 SGN DMK 1553 1730 (6/21)
FD130 DMK JAI 1954 2219 (6/21)

I'm assuming teams were bunched by hours of operation (TAR 31 in Laos) or otherwise held up overnight (like TAR 30 in Tangier or TAR 32 in Manaus) before actively racing the morning of 6/22.

If a team missed this flight, the next best flight combination is
VN979 SGN BOM 1755 2148 (6/21)
AI651 BOM JAI 0530 0715 (6/22).

The only issue is AI651 was cancelled on 6/22.  :'( If I recall the rules of flights now, teams can rebook tickets if their flight got canceled, meaning they could still get into Jaipur by quickly booking:

6E 5098 BOM JAI 0410 0559 (6/22),
I5 761 BOM JAI 0649 0831 (6/22), or
6E 5281 BOM JAI 0805 0952 (6/22)

With regards to Cologne, there are many options and not much info right now. There are direct flights to Frankfurt out of Delhi and Mumbai and teams could drive or take a train to Cologne. There are also Lufthansa flights to Cologne via Munich out of the same cities.

Edit: With the Rüdesheim am Rhein sighting, it looks like they flew into Frankfurt.

June 14, 2023: China Airlines – Flight 7, 12:00 midnight
EVA Air – Flight 11 12:15 am

Thanks Leafs. Was there options to continue on China Airlines from TPE to BKK or would they have had to default to using the EVA flight we've already noted?

Also looks like both flights arrived in TPE at the same time?? How odd.

Updated

June 18: VJC 806 BKK-SGN 20:47-22:15 or 2nd BBK-SGN

Just some bonus info about one of the flights that left from Bangkok to Vietnam since we have so little info this season:

Five teams left Bangkok to Vietnam on June 18 on flight VJ806. That flight left Bangkok at 7:55 PM and landed in Ho Chi Minh City at 9:25 PM. Teams were spotted racing on June 19 early in the morning so it sounds like there was an Hour Of Operation/Sign Up board after they landed.

The teams on that flight were:
- Andrea & Malaina
- Liam & Yeremi
- Steve & Anna
- Robbin & Chelsea
- Todd & Ashlie

Other teams left on a different unknown flight (no clue if it was earlier or later)

If the final destination is Dublin, there’s a flight that just left Stockholm Arlanda Airport in a flight SK535.

Looking at the flight from Vietnam to India it seems teams flew on an Malysia Airways plane for at least one leg.

In previous races, teams leaving Vietnam had to go to a travel agent to get flight reservations and tickets to their next destination (even if they were on the same flight, as what happened this ep). Factoring in that and the 4 hour cab ride from Can Tho to SGN, my best guess is

MH759 SGN KUL 1640 1940
MH198 KUL HYD 2130 2310
6E658 HYD JAI 0520 0720 (+1)

Possibly?:duno: Working backwards, they can connect via BOM on

MH-194 KUL BOM 1935 2215
I5-761 BOM JAI 0655 0840 (+1)

(one of several options; I think Air Asia India is either a member of Oneworld with Malaysian Airlines or else codeshares with them in some way so that would be my pick)

Getting to KUL, we know teams started the leg between 0700 and 0736 assuming no funny business. If they went to a travel agent to get tickets as per usual for legs departing Vietnam, I doubt a travel agency would put them on flights of separate alliances (which would exclude Vietnam Airlines flights). The amount of time it would take to get reservations, taxi four hours to SGN and clear immigration/security means teams could fly on either

AK-529 SGN KUL 1240 1540 (less likely), or
AK-527 SGN KUL 1325 1625

The primary issue regarding the second flight is I'm going off of schedule data vs actual flights perhaps Santa will put a Gold membership in my stocking for Christmas and can't confirm if AK-527 existed during the time of filming and actually flew that day. A secondary issue is I think an extra 45 minutes in this context is trivial, especially if production wanted all teams on the same flight. If a team missed the two flights above, the connections via KUL and HYD are the best bet still.

Alternatively, teams can fly via IndiGo and arrive early enough to be held at the Amber Fort-

6E-5052 0505 0640

For efficiency's sake I haven't accounted for things like triple connections (say, SGN-KUL-BOM-DEL-JAI or SGN-KUL-SIN-BOM-JAI) or production pre-booking the same flight for all teams.
