Amazing Race Canada Season 6, Episode 3, "Sounds like a wild boar"
Film date: 2018-04-27 - 2018-04-28
The last pit stop was on the top of Midnight Dome just above Dawson City, Yukon. Teams depart from downtown Dawson City in the following order:

--- Quote ---ROUTE INFO
Fly to Salt Spring Island,
British Columbia.
Once there, search the
docks of Ganges
Harbour for your next
clue.
You have $620 for this
leg of the race.
--- End quote ---
Teams must first drive themselves to the Dawson City airport (17km 15min). Most teams do this without problems (There is kind of one big road out of town and it passes the airport), but not all.
"Are you sure this is the right way to the airport?", Joseph & Akash have trouble finding the airport
Teams are surprised when Zainab & Monica arrive at the airport and they realize that it was a non-elim.
"It's cool, we just have to beat them again", Mar
Teams fly from Dawson City via Whitehorse to Vancouver. Once they land in Vancouver they must make their way to Vancouver Harbour flight center where they can sign up for flights to Salt Spring Island the following morning. Teams end up on the following flights:
Sea plane 1 at 09:10:
1. Joseph & Akash
Sea plane 2 at 09:25:
2. Leanne & Mar
3. Zainab & Monica
Sea plane 3 at 09:35:
4. Courtney & Adam
5. Taylor & Courtney
Sea plane 4 at 09:45:
6. Todd & Anna
7. Martina & Phil
Sea plane 5 at 09:55:
8. Nancy & Mellisa
9. Dylan & Kwame
The next day teams fly in their seaplanes to Salt Spring Island. They land in Ganges Harbour and the clue box is easy to find.
This is also where Zainab & Monica find their speed bump. They must taste 8 different kinds of flavored salt and then match the correct label to each jar. There are two extra labels, but the task still seems fairly easy because they are done before the next plane lands.

Open your pie hole!
Eat two blueberry pies at
the Salt Spring Saturday
Market to earn the keys
to your 2018 Chevrolet
Bolt EV, where you will
find your next clue.
--- End quote ---
Teams must now find the marked pie stand where they will get the blueberry pies they have to eat.
"I thought I was going to eat this in 5 seconds but it is taking slightly longer than that", Joseph
"These are not little pies, these are something that you serve to your entire family at thanksgiving dinner", Leanne
"Do you guys like pie?", Leanne asks Joseph & Akash when she arrives
"I would have given you a different answer five minutes ago", Joseph
The pie eating turns out to be much more difficult than teams expected. So hard that two teams sacrifice their express passes to get out of the task.
"I don't like pie and I don't like blueberries", Todd
Fortunately there are buckets available to the racers, and after a while they start to see frequent use.
"Sounds like a wild boar", Zainab gets the title as she hears Martina use the bucket
Nancy & Mellisa almost uses their express pass but end up not so they are the only ones left with an express pass after this task.
Teams get their car keys in the following order:
1(+0) Joseph & Akash
2(+4) Todd & Anna, used their express pass
3(-1) Leanne & Mar, used their express pass
4(+0) Courtney & Adam
5(+2) Martina & Phil
6(-1) Taylor & Courtney
7(-4) Zainab & Monica
8(+1) Dylan & Kwame
9(-1) Nancy & Mellisa
The next clue is waiting inside the car.
--- Quote ---ROUTE INFO
Drive yourselves to
Mount Erskine Provincial
Park and search the
evergreens for a fairy
door with your next clue
inside.
--- End quote ---
At the park (4.6km 9min) there are ten small fairy-doors, three of the doors have clues behind them. The extra info for the racers state that all doors can be found within 20 feet of the trail and they are visible from the trail.
Todd & Anna arrive moments after Joseph & Akash so the two teams decide to work together.
Nancy & Mellisa arrive after all other teams have left. They freak out and use their express pass.
Teams get their clues here in the following order:
1(+0) Joseph & Akash
2(+0) Todd & Anna
3(+0) Leanne & Mar
4(+2) Taylor & Courtney
5(+0) Martina & Phil
6(-2) Courtney & Adam
7(+1) Dylan & Kwame
8(-1) Zainab & Monica
9(+0) Nancy & Mellisa, used their express pass
--- Quote ---ROAD BLOCK
Who's good with
numbers?
--- End quote ---
Teams must now drive themselves to Vesuvius bay (8km 12min) and catch a ferry to Crofton on Vancouver Island. Note that Crofton is only about 1h drive away from Hatley castle where this season started.
There turns out to be a long line of cars at the ferry terminal and Joseph & Akash almost get on the next ferry, which would have been a big deal since there is an hour between the ferries. But just as they are about to board they get a red light, the ferry is full. In the end all teams end up on the same ferry.
Once in Crofton teams must drive themselves to Vancouver Island Motorsport Circuit (17km 17min).
Teams arrive to the racing track in the following order:
1(+1) Todd & Anna
2(+2) Taylor & Courtney
3(+3) Courtney & Adam
4(-1) Leanne & Mar
5(-4) Joseph & Akash
6(-1) Martina & Phil
7(+0) Dylan & Kwame
8(+0) Zainab & Monica
9(+0) Nancy & Mellisa
In this road block one team member get behind the wheel of a sporty Corvette. They must then complete a lap of the circuit in under 3 minutes without exceeding 80km/h.
"I love cars, I name all my dogs after cars", Martina
It is raining pretty hard so I wonder if the planned task was a little bit different.
"It is not easy being in this powerhouse of a car and having to go only 80 km/h", Nancy
Teams complete this road block in the following order (* denotes team member doing the roadblock):
1(+0)Todd* & Anna (2-1)2(+0)Taylor & Courtney*(1-2)3(+1)Leanne* & Mar (2-1)4(+1)Joseph* & Akash (2-1)5(+1)Martina & Phil* (1-2)6(+1)Dylan & Kwame* (1-2)7(+1)Zainab* & Monica (2-1)8(+1)Nancy* & Mellisa (2-1)9(-6)Courtney* & Adam (2-1)On her 2nd attempt as she drove too fast in her 1st
Route info: "Drive yourselves to Pacific Northwest raptors and search the grounds for your next clue"
At the raptors place (10km 10min) teams find another road block:
--- Quote ---ROAD BLOCK
Who's ready to tie the
knot?
NOTE: The team
member who did not
perform the last Road
Block MUST attempt this
one.
--- End quote ---
In this road block teams must learn to tie a one-handed falconers knot from a silent demonstration (one handed since the other hand is busy holding the bird). When ready the player will get a live raptor on their glove and they will have 15s to tie the knot using the leash of the bird.
"He just flips his thumb and suddenly there's a knot there, it's like a magic trick", Anna has a hard time following the demonstration
"Holy smokes, you do something with your thumb there", Taylor
Teams talk to the guy doing the demonstration and learn that he is not allowed to go any slower.
"Holy smokes, this is a pretty big bird", Taylor when doing his first attempt
Mar seems to get the knot relatively quickly and then she helps Anna on the condition that Anna lets her go first. Which Anna does.
"I think Mar saw the panic on my face and just decide to be nice to me, which makes me emotional since she is so sweet", Anna
"I did it in 17 seconds", Mar on her 1st attempt
"This is not like any navy knot I've ever tied. This is a bird knot", Monica
"Yeah, I did it. I just don't know how I did it", Dylan while practicing the knot
"I believe in you, you believe in me, let's do this know together", Martina talks to her bird
Mellisa knows this knot since it is the same she uses every day to tie her horses to the trailer. So she is filled with confidence, even though she has to do the knot with one hand. After some practice she is tying this knot over and over again under the time limit. After 21 attempts she realizes that she is tying the wrong knot.
Teams complete this road block in the following order (* denotes team member doing the roadblock):
1(+1)Taylor* & Courtney(2-2)On his 5th attempt2(+1)Leanne & Mar* (2-2)On her 4th attempt3(-2)Todd & Anna* (2-2)On her 4th attempt4(+1)Martina* & Phil (2-2)On her 5th attempt5(+4)Courtney & Adam* (2-2)On his 1st attempt6(+0)Dylan* & Kwame (2-2)On his 2nd attempt7(+2)Nancy & Mellisa* (2-2)On her 27th attempt8(-1)Zainab & Monica* (2-2)On her 8th attempt9(-5)Joseph & Akash* (2-2)On his 10th attempt
The next clue is a small scroll of the type which may have been tied to the foot of a bird.
--- Quote ---Drive yourselves to the Kinsol Trestle and search for Jon
at your next Pit Stop.
Warning!! The last team to check in may be eliminated.
--- End quote ---
There are a few attempts at footraces at the pit stop (31km 34min) since the actual bridge is 300m from the parking lot.
Teams check in the following order:
1(+0) Taylor & Courtney, win a trip to Boston
2(+1) Todd & Anna, lost a footrace
3(-1) Leanne & Mar
4(+0) Martina & Phil
5(+1) Dylan & Kwame
6(-1) Courtney & Adam
7(+1) Zainab & Monica
8(-1) Nancy & Mellisa, just after #7
9(+0) Joseph & Akash, are eliminated
"Yelling my name doesn't make the mat any closer, but I like to hear it", Jon to Martina
"To be among some of Canada's finest heroes has been an absolute honor for us", Akash
Linda BC2:
This is wrong:
“Note that Crofton is the ferry terminal they departed from in the first leg.”
The first episode has them departing from Swartz Bay, an hour and a half drive from Crofton.

The last pit stop was on the Kinsol Trestle, Vancouver Island BC. Teams are released from the nearby city of Duncan after what seems to have been a long pit stop. They are released in the following order:

Fly to Jakarta,
Indonesia... the Emerald
of the Equator.
Once there, find the
dancing Ondel-Ondel in
Fatahillah Square who
will give you your next
clue.
You have $500 CAD for
this leg of the Race.
Caution: Double U-Turn
ahead!
--- End quote ---
Teams drive themselves from Duncan to Victoria Airport (79km 1h10min) and then fly from there via Vancouver and Tokyo to Jakarta. This flight is long and since they cross the international date-line they loose a day so they probably arrive to Jakarta late in the evening on the 1st of May.
When teams land there is the customary mad dash through the airport to the taxis and on to Fatahillah Square.
"Go, yes, go, yes, go", Nancy to their taxi driver
"I think you're scaring him", Mellisa has to calm her down
At the square (25km) teams find a sign and a sign-up board. The sign says that the Ondel Ondel performance begins at 8:00 am. Dylan & Kwame arrive first but Kwame does not want to put their name on top since the other male-male teams who got first on sign-up boards got eliminated in the same leg (Chewie & Happy in leg #1 and Joseph & Akash in leg 3).
Performance 1:
1. Dylan & Kwame
2. Leanne & Mar
Performance 2:
3. Todd & Anna
4. Courtney & Adam
5. Zainab & Monica
Performance 3:
6. Martina & Phil
7. Nancy & Mellisa
8. Taylor & Courtney
The next morning they get to see the Ondel-Ondel dance. This is a traditional Indonesian Welcome dance and is performed by two dancers in giant costumes. Teams also get to take part in the dance and once it is done they are given their next clue.
Route info: "Make your way to Jakarta's old port, Pelabuhan Sunda Kelapa."
Dylan & Kwame have trouble communicating with their taxi driver. After a while they spot Todd & Anna, who are having the same problem.
"We figure, lets stick with them they usually end up on top", Dylan
But that is not the case this time.
"We are super lost", Dylan
"Why did we sign up first?", Kwame feel the curse is upon them
Physically they are not very far from the real location, but they are on the other side of the port channel so they eventually jump into taxis and make their way to the right place.
Teams reach the clue box at the port (3.5km) in the following order:
1(+1) Leanne & Mar
2(+2) Courtney & Adam
3(+4) Nancy & Mellisa
4(+1) Zainab & Monica
5(+3) Taylor & Courtney
6(+0) Martina & Phil
7(-6) Dylan & Kwame
8(-5) Todd & Anna
Here teams must transport Durian fruits from a truck on land over a narrow plank and fill a bin on a boat. There are two planks, one for each direction.
The Durian fruits are really prickly and hurts so it is hard to carry many in one go. A lot of racers start using their shirts.
"We do not want to fall into this water", Leanne & Mar
"They are sharp and pointy and they hurt", Courtney (nurse) describe the Durian
The trailing two teams are not too far behind since Martin & Phil are still doing this task when they arrive.
Teams complete this task in the following order:
1(+0) Leanne & Mar
2(+0) Courtney & Adam
3(+0) Nancy & Mellisa
4(+0) Zainab & Monica
5(+0) Taylor & Courtney
6(+0) Martina & Phil
7(+1) Todd & Anna
8(-1) Dylan & Kwame
The next route info directs teams to the Pasar Burung Barito, bird market. Where they will find a blind double U-turn.
Teams reach the U-turn board (12km) in the following order:
1(+0) Leanne & Mar
2(+0) Courtney & Adam
3(+0) Nancy & Mellisa, U-turns Martina & Phil
4(+0) Zainab & Monica, U-turns Todd & Anna
5(+0) Taylor & Courtney
6(+1) Todd & Anna
7(+1) Dylan & Kwame, see Todd & Anna at the board
8(-2) Martina & Phil
"There is no need to put that target on our back", Leanne on why they did not U-turn
"We just want to slow down another team so as to secure us a spot on the next leg", Nancy want a bit of a cushion
"Classic line, we're not here to make friends. We need to win. We need to get rid of the strong teams", Zainab
--- Quote ---DETOUR
Detour: "Ular" or
"Kebaya"
Ular: Help a snake
handler treat his
serpents to a bath, then
get a treatment of your
own to receive your
next clue.
Kebaya: Join the
garment makers of
Pasar Mayestik and put
the finishing touches on
two kebayas to receive
your next clue.
--- End quote ---
In Ular team make their way to Langsat Park (14km) where they must choose a crate and the wash and dry the snake inside. Some snakes are bigger than others but there is no way to tell before choosing the crate. I am sure this task is made easier by the T-shirts the handlers wear "My pet can eat your pet".
The clue does not seem to mention that the "treatment" players get afterwards consists of them attaching leeches to each other for 5 minutes. The leeches are kept in jars and each jar has a player name on it so they should not exchange leeches between each other.
Kebaya takes place in Pasat Mayestik, about 1km from the Ular detour location. In this massive textile bazaar teams must search for a marked sewing stall. Here they must use the provided machine to sew two panels which they must the sew to the inside of the lapels of two traditional women's blazers.
"I used to have a dog, this is not the same as washing your dog", Mar while washing the snake
"I'm a little bit scared of snakes I guess", Courtney (nurse) as she tries to handle the snake
"I can't, I can not, nope, you pick that up", Courtney (police) upon opening their crate
"I hate leaches", Mar is not fond of the treatment
"I can't get yours to stick", Leanne has trouble attaching a leach to Mar
"I'm a high-school home economics teacher. I've taught textiles in the past", Martina feels confident about the sewing
The two U-turned teams, Todd & Anna and Martina & Phil, select different detours as their first. And it seems to take the similar amounts of time to do the first detour as they pass each other running between them. Both teams feel the pressure when this happens.
Teams complete the detour in the following order:
1(+2) Nancy & Mellisa, Ular
2(-1) Leanne & Mar, Ular
3(-1) Courtney & Adam, Ular
4(+0) Zainab & Monica, Ular
5(+0) Taylor & Courtney, Ular
6(+1) Dylan & Kwame, Ular
Todd & Anna, Ular
Martina & Phil, Kebaya
7(+1) Martina & Phil, Ular
8(-1) Todd & Anna, Kebaya

Master one of
Indonesia's most popular
dances, the Saman, or
dance of a thousand
hands. Then join the
dance troupe for a
performance to receive
your next clue.
--- End quote ---
This dance is performed by a group of dancers sitting on their knees in along line. It mostly consists of fast rhythmic hand motions and seems to be fairly difficult to master.
Teams are given individual instructors, but there is only one stage so they have to wait in line to perform the dance. Production has also invited a number of locals to act as an audience so there are lots of hand clapping or boos depending on how well the racers are doing.
"Mal would have been the perfect one to do it because she can dance. I was expecting to build something", Nancy
"Wow, this is extremely difficult", Adam upon seeing the dance
"Lots of hand movements", Leanne
"I did karate as a kid and this is similar. It's just memorizing movements", Dylan
Eventually the first five teams have left and Adam is the only person left doing the task when the last two teams arrive. The pressure is on.
"I'm really battling with that whole tempo thing. I'm not a dancer and I don't hold a beat very well", Adam
"I love to dance", Phil is happy

MONA is a big monument standing on Merdeka Square. This is well known so every taxi driver know where it is.
Having seen a few race seasons prior to this I am kind of jaded and know that the editing often tries to portrait teams as being closer than they really are. But here we actually get to see the last two teams in the same frame as Todd & Anna spot a taxi outside the theater only to see Courtney & Adam get into it. So we know they are not far behind.
Teams reach the pit stop (3km) in the following order:
1(+0) Leanne & Mar, win a trip to Ho-Chi-Minh city
2(+0) Nancy & Mellisa, not long after #1
3(+0) Dylan & Kwame
4(+1) Zainab & Monica
5(-1) Taylor & Courtney
6(+0) Martina & Phil
7(+0) Courtney & Adam
8(+0) Todd & Anna, are eliminated
