With 15 million views of their most popular video (a sketch called Man Gives Birth) their YouTube channel “Dan and Riya” already have street recognition. “I get a little shocked,” says Riya. “I’m like, ‘You want a picture with ME?’”

The first Canadian YouTube stars on TARC, they’ve considered how awkward it might be if they were recognized mid-race.

“Could you imagine?” says Daniel. “‘I can’t talk to you right now, I’m racing.’”

“Basically, we are here for the experience,” he says. “How many people have done this in the entire world?”

They admit being intimidated by the apparent fitness of their competition. “I always say, ‘Riya we’re too nice.’ And sometimes people walk over us a bit. But I do think nice people go far.”

“Niceness is not a weakness,” Riya adds.
