Just my speculation - but I think they may have had a leg planned for Montreal or the Ottawa area and they have had to delay because of the flooding there.
Quote
The Treasury Board of Canada Secretariat issued the following statement in response to flooding in the National Capital Region:
Recent flooding in the region has resulted in local evacuations, as well as road closures.  As a result, and to allow emergency services to help those in need, the Government of Canada is advising its employees not to travel to their offices on Monday, May 8, if:
they normally travel to their offices via the interprovincial bridges; or,
they work in federal buildings in Gatineau, as these buildings will be closed.
With the flood situation continuing to worsen in many regions of Ontario and Quebec, the top priority is the safety and security of employees and those in the affected communities.

It's definitely a possibility. It's been bad this past week. The Saint John River through New Brunswick is overflowing, too.

Hopefully they had backup legs planned, or the route logistics are totally out the window.

Sounds to me it might be another "special" leg. "Finding out what it means to be Canadian" CTV doesn't really seem to care about spoilers getting out. That guy was pretty close. Is there any way to find out what Justin's schedule was today?

Well, can't exactly say a national capital visit on Canada150 wasn't predictable.

If they got Trudeau to appear, that'd definitely be something.

Nothing on his schedule prior to 2PM, officially.
They could have stopped there at the beginning of the leg. I wouldn't be surprised.

Wouldn't doubt it. It's 100 years last month since Vimy Ridge, one of our proudest military victories. We'll probably hear about that.

Also, VE Day is the anniversary of our liberation of the Netherlands. One possible place that jumps to mind is a statue called The Man With Two Hats. It was given to Canada as thanks, there's one in the Netherlands and an identical one in Ottawa.

It's probably prep. Every time we see Jon, we see teams the next day.

Last season is a good example. Same thing for Season 3 IRC.

OMG I WAS IN OTTAWA TODAY  :groan:

I was at the commemoration ceremony at the war museum, Justin Trudeau was there but only for 15 minutes, from 3h35 to 3h50.
Did not see anything. If I learn that they were there I will be sooo mad!

Maybe they'll get a familiar face to appear - Jody Mitic :)

He lives in Ottawa (he's a city councillor now). And of course, a war veteran. It'd be appropriate.

Combed through FB comments for the UTurn post and this could indicate filming tomorrow.

Could The Next international destination be The Netherlands

Yes it is certainly possible. Here's why...
VE Day is the celebration of the day Germany signed it's surrender. May 5th is the day Germany capituated in the Netherlands. (WWII) The Netherlands sends tulips every year to Ottawa in remembrance. Ottawa has an annual Tulip festival where the majority of the display is at Dow's Lake, (Commissioners Park) which is also the sight of the Man with Two Hats statue that Maanca described. I wouldn't be surprised if Dow's Lake is the Pitstop!
But...two things. First, this leg (as Fossil pointed out) will probably be filmed today, not yesterday. Second, this would only make sense if they go to the Netherlands on the next leg, IMO. That isn't really their pattern in previous seasons, but their route this year has been different.

Bicycle Seen‏ @frpaul1
@RiverWardRiley is a Chevrolet dealership renting Mooney's Bay to park vehicles? #ottbike
8:04 AM

(There's a video. Looks like waaay more cars than necessary, but prob misdirection, or a task?!)

All of the vehicles parked on the left are either red or white - just like a certain flag I know.
How about - arrange the vehicles into the shape of a flag?

Perfect!!! I must be in some sort of daze today. I totally noticed the cars were only red and white...never even thought about it.
PS - City Counselor replied to that tweet saying he was advised it was a commercial filming. Right.  :funny:

That's unfortunate. If teams pass by the flame, they'll probably have those guys trying to get into the shot.

Teams turned left (west) of of Mooney's Bay. They could have been directed to go down Colonel By Drive along Rideau, but I don't know how bad flooding is. This would bring them right downtown to Parliament Hill.

Re: City Hall video I'm doing screencaps now but IMO:

Team 1 already has their clue, while Team 10 receiving their clue from Mayor. Team 10 is running in from right as another team gets to Mayor first from the left.

Let me know if approved & I'll post the screencaps.

Seems like Ottawa is still Leg 6.

The longer delay makes sense now. May 8 is an important day in the capital, and they were probably waiting to be there for it.
