I'm not buying it either. The guy is a huge Joey Graceffa so he's probably watched TAR. He was posting numerous all CAPS semi-hysterical tweets on a variety of subjects for a few hours now. Screamed about lightning. Checked weather radar and thunderstorms look like they are south of Chicago in Indiana. I can't completely rule out his seeing a thunderstorm at Midway airport but I don't think it was all that strong. He was also complaining about his flight being delayed. I think he was just bored and tweeting nonsense to amuse himself.

I monitored twitter all day and go away for an hour or so and suddenly things get interesting. Go figure.

If China, Russia, India are safe, they'd most likely visit one or more of those countries instead.

Right now, I'm thinking that the route might go: US --> some country in Australia & Oceania --> China --> some other countries in Asia --> Russia --> some other countries in Europe (and maybe a surprise from Africa? Or not.) --> back to US.

If they're not gonna visit South America and Africa because they have just been visited recently, then the only way a 4-continent race is possible is by visiting Australia & Oceania. If they're gonna skip Asia, they might need to visit South America and/or Africa to get a good route.

Coincidentally, TAR21 and TAR24 had 3-continent races.

Unfortunately for Russia, there is still much conflict over the situation in Ukraine and its likely to be unsafe. That means Russia and South Korea have ruled out due to unsafe concerns.

Well, I think everyone forgot TAR14 and TAR15 was featured 3-continent route as well. TAR15 route was directly affected by H1N1 virus back in 2009. IIRC South Korea, Ghana, and Balkan/Baltic countries was originally featured in TAR15, but they scrapped it because of H1N1 and eventually South Korea and Ghana was finally visited in TAR17 while the Balkan/Baltic countries does not.

Indonesia was fine for me, as well as they did not visit JAVA again except Jakarta. Otherwise, I will be really mad if they revisit JAVA again without Jakarta.

I get that West Africa is out because of Ebola, and the Middle East is out from MERS, and Ukraine and Russia are out from political conflicts. However, what other places are considered unsafe to travel in?

How about Malaysia? They've only ever done Sabah or KL but never really the southern/Johor region of the country? They could connect through Singapore.

The only fewer countries in West Africa are Ivory Coast/Cote d'Ivoire, Cape Verde and Togo are safe and Ebola free. According to Wikipedia, Sierra Leone and Guinea are the few other West African countries are still quarantined in fears of Ebola virus.

I don't understand why TAR hadn't been visit Cape Verde yet since:
1) It's relatively safe african country.
2) It's tourist destination. Beautiful beach and contain some volcanic topography
3) It's got some western-african culture. (Aka, Senegal and Ghana)
4) It's african island nation, similar to Mauritius and Seychelles which had been visited already.
5) It's can be easily access from Europe.

They probably have to start the race soon, they'd only have a month and a half to edit the first episode's footage!

so, if they scheduled the premiere of S27 at that time, they'd have to start around half to end of June right? or maybe not?

 but, if they really delayed the filming from this month due of MERS and the affairs in many countries in Asia or Africa, and started filming in the beginning or end of July ( or could be worse ), would they delayed the premiere from its schedule...?

well, I think that there are still many countries in Asia that are safe for racing... ( altough many of them come from ASEAN region ).... *yeah, hell, still hope for another visit to Indonesia...

Maybe not this season, but potentially in a few years, depending on how the U.S. President that takes office in 2017 and Fidel Castro get along.

I think Cyprus is normally safe for international travelers, the only thing is to visit Limassol or Paphos. The country is never visited in TAR before and would be the first time to visit.
