Now what are the odds that there'd be paper airplane remains right at that location?

Someone didn't clean the place up as carefully as they should have.

Thanks everybody!  It was a lot of fun.  I really can't wait to see it all go down.

I wonder if TAR18's racers will go and get Qantas tattoos now?

Here is another way to locate the start line. Here is the screencap from the promo......with the benchmark circled.

Here is close-up of the benchmark....

And here is a map of the location of that particular benchmark. The locations are recorded by the National Geodetic Survey. There are approximately 750,000 benchmarks across the United States. They are very precisely surveyed points. The information they contain is latitude, longitude and elevation above sea level.

Thanks to Texas Lady for Images 1 and 3, and to Chateau for Image 2.

I'm gonna bet CBS never thought we'd figure this one out this precisely without an eyewitness.

If they want to stop Cheteau figuring out the startline then perhaps (CBS, are you listening?) STOP HAVING THE STARTING LINE IN LA!!!

I think they went to LA agian, because of the ease of getting to Sydney.

That is probably true.  The flight to Sydney is long enough from LAX without adding additional westward travel in the USA.

As far as US departure cities with direct nonstop flights on Qantas to Sydney.......they could have also started the race in San Francisco or Honolulu, besides LA. Proximity to WRP home base also probably was a factor too in choosing LAX for departure.
