CBS's PREMIERE SUNDAY POSTS ACROSS-THE-BOARD INCREASES VERSUS LAST YEAR

Reality Rising: The Premiere of "The Amazing Race" Posts Gains Over Last Fall and Winter Premieres

In its First Fall Broadcast, "Undercover Boss" Boosts Year-Ago Time Period

CBS's premiere Sunday posted across-the-board increases versus a year ago led by NFL football overrun, 60 MINUTES and two reality series-THE AMAZING RACE, which topped last fall and winter's premieres, and the fall premiere of UNDERCOVER BOSS, which boosted the year ago time period, according to Nielsen live plus same day ratings for Sunday, Sept. 26.

Editor's Note:  Due to live sports programming on CBS (47 minutes of NFL run over), ratings and time period rankings are tentative and subject to change.

From 8:00-9:00 PM, 60 MINUTES (P) was second behind NBC's football in households (8.6/14), viewers (13.94m), adults 25-54 (4.3/10) and averaged a 3.2/08 in adults 18-49.  Note: The 60 MINTUES average includes 13 minutes of THE AMAZING RACE.

From 9:00-10:30 PM, THE AMAZING RACE 17 (P) (6.3/10, 11.12m) averaged a 4.5/10 in adults 25-54 and 3.7/09 in adults 18-49.  Compared to last fall's premiere (two-hours), THE AMAZING RACE was up +2% in households (from 6.2/10), +10% in adults 25-54 (from 4.1/09), +9% in adults 18-49 (from 3.4/08) and added +710,000 viewers (from 10.41m, +7%).  Compared to the winter premiere (one hour on Feb. 14, 2010), THE AMAZING RACE was up +24% in households (from 5.1/08), +32% in both adults 25-54 (from 3.4/08) and adults 18-49 (from 2.8/07) and added +2.11m viewers (from 9.01m, +23%).  Note: THE AMAZING RACE average includes 13 minutes of UNDERCOVER BOSS.

At 10:30 PM, UNDERCOVER BOSS (P) was second in households (6.7/12), viewers (10.90m), adults 25-54 (4.5/11) and adults 18-49 (3.6/10).  Compared to the time period programming on the same night last year ("Cold Case" from 10:14-11:14 PM), UNDERCOVER BOSS was up +10% in households (from 6.1/11), +67% in adults 25-54 (from 2.7/07), +71% in adults 18-49 (from 2.1/06) and added +1.70m viewers (from 9.20m viewers, +19%).

For the night, CBS was second in households (8.0/13), viewers (13.27m), adults 25-54 (4.8/12) and adults 18-49 (3.9/10).   Compared to premiere Sunday last year, CBS was up +8% in households, +17% in adults 25-54, +18% in adults 18-49 and +12% in viewers.

Thanks for posting this as I can't at work any more.

If those numbers hold it will be the third strongest season opener since moving to Sunday in both Total Viewers and Adults 18-49 (Season 10 and 12 performed stronger).

MY DAD SAYS (10.43m).

Couple of things to keep in mind, a top 30 this year is like a top 25 last year, due to the ill fated prime-time Leno  program last year. And these number are live plus same day only not live plus seven.

For the first week of the season TAR ranked 11th out of all shows in adults 25-54 in homes that earn 100,000.  What they call upscale viewers.  60 Minuets (which is often does well here) was 19th and Undercover Boss was 22nd.

Couple of things to keep in mind, a top 30 this year is like a top 25 last year, due to the ill fated prime-time Leno  program last year. And these number are live plus same day only not live plus seven.

While its true that their are 5 more hours of NBC then what really was there last year for NBC.  THe simply fact (especially in total viewers) NBC rarely had anything besides Sunday Football place in the top 25.

But TAR is doing extremely well this year after two episodes.  Very, very well.

And here I thought this season was lackluster.

CBS may be taking a holiday weekend (no press releases so far today, and none since Thursday on their web site), but I've seen a preliminary estimate of around 12.1 million viewers for last night not including any time shifting. It's also a gain over TAR 15's 10.8 million  the same week a year ago. (No 18-54 demo info yet, either).

Once CBS puts out something I'll post it.

They have issued a press release for their first week DVD results and tar isn't included, tvbythenumbers has also posted top twenty five DVD results no tar, and for the first time ever C3.

C3, are the commercials ratings for the first three nights of viewing.  These are the numbers that set ad rates.  As they remove households who skip commercials.

They are the most important data point on a shows success or failure.  And of course they had the top 25 and we didn't make it.

The only interesting thing is that based on that list.  It's clear that DVD doesn't really I pact a shows future.

Fewer people are counted with three days of commercial viewing then all the people who watch the program during the first day.

And while there was so minor changes in order.  There'd wasn't a huge shift, well except family guy which did great in commercial viewing.

TAR

11.99 viewers
3.8 in adults18-49
4.5 adults 25-54

Ranked 20th in viewers, We almost beat survivor we missed them by 60,000 viewers.  I think its the closest we have ever been.

We tied them in adults 18-49.  THough later today I will get adult 18-49 total (actual number of viewers where it is possible we might have beat them).  But we have never even tied the demo number before.

For the first time we actually beat survivor in adults 18-49.  We both got a 3.8.  But we had 4.992 million viewers in that demo.  Survivor had 4.944 million viewers in that demo.

CTV is very lazy about promoting TAR in Canada. I can only imagine what the ratings would be if they actually put some effort into advertising. If you want a laugh - look at http://shows.ctv.ca/TheAmazingRace.aspx and compare it to the CBS site.

Still waiting on CBS for the overnight numbers because the NFL overrun in some markets skewed the data, but I did wee a mention of about 11.24 million and a 3.4 demo; compared to TAR 15 the same week a year ago, we were up by two million viewers.

I'll post whatever CBS has to say when it comes out, but we may be having to wait until tomorrow's weekly numbers  release.
