'American Idol' finalist Lee DeWyze comes home
Lee DeWyze's Chicago-area homecoming has begun. The Mount Prospect native and "American Idol" Top 3 finalist kicked off his hectic day on Friday -- which includes throwing out the first pitch at Wrigley Field, a parade in his hometown and a performance at Arlington Park -- with a visit to various Chicago radio and TV outlets.
"Being in Chicago ... I've been gone -- it feels like it's been forever," DeWyze told FOX's "Good Day Chicago." "To be back, it's just like ... this is home."
DeWyze is scheduled to appear at an AT&T store in Skokie at 11 a.m. and will visit an unnamed high school later in the day. He told "Good Day" he will play an original song, a cover and something he performed on "Idol" during his mini-concert.
AT&T store in SkokieAround 200-250 fans showed up for DeWyze's 11 a.m appearance and was said to be "very appreciative." From what I hear, the first fan showed up at the store around 5:30 a.m.
First pitch at the Cubs gameDeWyze hit the field shortly before 1 p.m. (thanks to the help of a police escort), and briefly spoke with Cubs chairman Tom Ricketts. "This is awesome" DeWyze told Ricketts. I asked him if he was able to sleep the night before and he simply responded, "No."
After throwing out the first pitch, DeWyze pumped his fist (the pitch was good, but it wasn't fist-pumping good) and then walked up to the "American Idol" TV crew. "Wow, that was crazy," he said into the cameras. DeWyze left the field after that and was followed by the camera crew, photographers and, of course, screaming fans.
