While 10-foot waves were reported at one offshore buoy near Chile, as a whole the wide areas affected are forecast to see not more than three feet waves, including southern California (LA and Santa Barbara), Hawaii, and American Samoa. Most of these are expected to reach these areas after midnight local times, and the affected areas include Antarctica(!) and French Polynesia. The advisories I've seen from the National Weather Service are cautioning for both tidal action and rip currents. Let's just hope that people take no chances and evacuate to higher ground until the all clear is given.
