Dancing With the Stars Contestant Loses 26 Pounds

David Alan Grier has been working up quite a sweat on Dancing With the Stars.

"I've actually lost 26 pounds," the actor, 53, told Usmagazine.com after Monday's show. "The first day I came in, I was like, 'I'm not going to
lose weight - we're waltzing!'"

But he said his dancing routines with partner Kym Johnson involve "three hours of aerobics. You're dancing and you're using your core - which Kim was talking about."

Added Johnson, "You're burning a lot more calories because you're actually moving your whole body, as opposed to doing just weights."

Grier - who had been on a strict diet of egg whites, fruit, yogurt - said he now "can cheat a little bit because we are burning so much."

Two contestants go home on tonight's show - and Grier (who scored a 22 for his Lindy Hop on Monday's show) is hoping he is not one of them.

"I have to stay in to lose four more pounds," he told Us, "and then you can kick me off."

An interview with Gilles:

Dancing's Gilles: "I'm Helping Make Babies!"

Hey, Gilles Marini! You just scored a perfect 30 on Dancing With the Stars, so what are you going to do next?

Celebrate...at a hamburger joint?!

"My wife and my friends who were there all wanted to have burger and the only burger was Johnny Rockets next door [to the studio]," Gilles told me this morning. "We feasted on Johnny Rockets and milkshakes. I think I gained 18 pounds."

As if the naked guy from Sex and the City has anything to worry about in the body department!

Read on for my weekly exclusive chat with Marini. We talked about earning this season's first 30, how Shawn Johnson is holding up after her stalker scare and why Gilles and his partner, Cheryl Burke, may be the cause of a sudden baby boom about nine months from now.

You did amazing last night. You got three 10s!
We try our best. I was very insecure last night before we start dancing because I saw the dress rehearsals. Everyone was brilliant and I was like, "I'm done today."

How does it feel to hear Carrie Anne Inaba say she couldn't tell who was the celebrity and who was the professional dancer during your Argentine tango?
You know, it doesn't make me do anything. When she says that it means Cheryl is an accomplished teacher. Every week I'm starting from zero. We have the paso doble next, and I don't know what a paso doble is yet. I never seen a paso doble my entire life. I didn't even know how to spell it.

Maybe so, but you told me the same thing last week about the Argentine tango and look how well that turned out.
Even Cheryl was like, "This is the first time I ever compete with the Argentine tango. It's going to be my first time doing it in front of an audience." She was very scared. On Saturday, she wanted to change the choreography because she was not happy with it. I was like, "Baby, I don't know. I need at least four or five days to remember everything."

I'm sure you've been getting a lot more fan mail and attention.
We have much more people contacting us and saying they are really having a fun time. This morning, I was on a radio show and a listener called in saying, "My wife was really horny last night, so thank you!" I thought it was hilarious and a compliment. I'm helping make babies. That's the nicest thing I've heard this morning.

How has it been on set since that crazy fan was arrested trying to get to Shawn Johnson?
No one talked about anything because we don't really have to. No matter what, there are going to be crazy people around. But let me tell you, Shawn is the strongest person I ever met. She was completely fine, like nothing ever happened. She's got an amazing family and you see that—especially now.

Report: 'Dancing' bachelorette Melissa Rycroft offered $500k to pose

Dancing with the Stars apparently wasn't the only one interested in Melissa Rycroft after she was dumped by Jason Mesnick.

Playboy editor Hugh Hefner has offered the jilted bachelorette $500,000 to appear nude in the men's publication, Star magazine reported Monday.

"Hef really wants Melissa to do a pictorial because she's the ultimate girl next door," a source told Star. "He thinks she has it all: beauty, brains and spunk. And it doesn't hurt that she has a terrific figure."

Hefner has already sent Rycroft -- who is currently competing on Dancing with the Stars eighth season -- a personal letter asking her to pose naked for Playboy, according to Star, which added he has also invited her to his mansion to discuss a possible deal.

However Rycroft's hands are apparently tied as long as her feet are still moving on Dancing with the Stars.

"It states in her contract with ABC that she cannot pose nude while she's on Dancing," the source told Star. "And she won't even be able to until three months after her season ends!"

Rycroft was chosen by Mesnick over Molly Malaney during The Bachelor's thirteenth-season finale, however he decided to dump her on-air during the After the Final Rose special to instead have a second chance with Malaney.

Rycroft subsequently joined Dancing with the Stars' eighth-season cast as a last-minute replacement for injured Access Hollywood co-anchor Nancy O'Dell.

Somewhat ironically, The Girls Next Door star and former Hefner girlfriend Holly Madison also joined Dancing with the Stars eighth-season cast as a replacement for singer Jewel Kilcher.

ABC Television Network

PRESS RELEASE

ABC OVERNIGHT RATINGS (FOR 3/30)

ABC is the Most-Watched Network on Monday for the 4th Week in a Row and Across All Women Demos for the 8th Consecutive Week

"DWTS" Wins from 8-10pm to Top the Second-Place Nets by 8.5 Million Viewers and by 14% Among Adults 18-49

ABC's "Dancing with the Stars" is Monday's No. 1 Program in Viewers and Across All Key Women Demos for the 4th Week in a Row

ABC's "Castle" Takes a Strong Second at 10pm, Outperforming NBC's "Medium" by 2.5 Million Viewers and by 17% in Adults 18-34

Monday Night (8:00-11:00 p.m.)
ABC Monday lineup drew 16.8 million viewers and a 4.0 rating 10 share in Adults 18-49, standing as the most-watched Network on the night for the 5th week running.  In addition, ABC won the night for the 8th straight week across all key Women demographics (W18-34 - 4.4/11, W18-49 - 5.6/14 and W25-54 - 7.0/16), including a 13-week stretch among Women 18-34.

"Dancing with the Stars" (8:00-10:00 p.m.)
ABC's broad appealing "Dancing with the Stars" won its time period in Total Viewers (20.2 million) and Adults 18-49 (4.8/12) for the 4th straight week, topping the second-place networks by 8.5 million viewers (11.7 million - Fox) and by 14% in Adults 18-49 (4.2/11 - CBS and Fox tied).  "DWTS" also qualified as Monday's No. 1 TV program in viewers and among all key Women demos (W18-34 - 5.1/13, W18-49 - 6.7/16 and Women 25-54 - 8.3/18) for the 4th time in as many weeks.

"Castle" (10:00-11:00 p.m.)
ABC's "Castle" took a strong second in the 10 o'clock hour to CBS' "C.S.I.: Miami," beating NBC's veteran drama, "Medium," by 2.5 million viewers (9.8 million vs. 7.3 million) and by 17% Adults 18-34 (2.1/6 vs. 1.8/5).

A note about increasing DVR penetration and year-to-year rating comparisons: Year-to-year rating comparisons based on the Live + Same Day data stream are distorted by the level of DVR penetration in the Nielsen sample, which has jumped up to 30% currently, from 23% at the same point in 2008.
More viewers are watching shows on their own timetables, which may not be reflected in the overnight
next day numbers. The only truly valid year-to-year comparison would be one based on the Live + 7 Day metric, once those stats are released by Nielsen.

An update from Woz:   good luck

I got a good sleep last night.

After the show and some press stuff, I headed to this great nearby restaurant, Wood Ranch BBQ & Grill. I had never heard of this chain before but I love barbecue food. I love their Beef ribs and BBQ Chicken Breast and BBQ half chicken and probably every entre. I also love the peanut cole slaw. It's a special touch to the cole slaw. Like many Chinese restaurants I love, they have plenty of sweet sauces. The problem with the baked beans is that it's actually too sweet. The garlic rolls here are to die for. It's my true feelings, not some caked up endorsement of the place. Many nights I, or one of the others here, picks up some of their food to take out.

Some friends from a young Orange County music group, Dusty Rhodes and the River Band, joined us. These are real nice people and Andrea is a special friend with a head that cares a lot about what's right and wrong with people and their actions. She made me a friendship bracelet when I met her after a free Music In The Park concert in San Jose once, and it's still on my right wrist. She also gave me a copy of the book Ishmeal right there at the concert and told me to give it to someone else after I read it. I loved this book so much that I bought a few copies on Amazon and gave them to my best friends, including my dance partner Karina.

A friend from the past, Michael Anthony Hall, joined us with his date, Leah, at the dinner. Anthony is one of the nicest people I've met in my life. He was the center of a literacy program to help Orange, California, high school kids who had reading and writing difficulties, and I was fortunate enough to have some participation in this group as well.

As for the actual dance last night, I watched the video of it this morning. I didn't do that for any of my prior dances. I was delighted with the job they did of me with my Segway group, thanking fans for their votes and encouraging them to vote for me. I was glad that this package turned out really great and not all phony. I loved when they briefly showed my dancing with a stranger. I had offered to give dance instruction to anyone who would vote for me as sort of a joke piece.

I look at my actual dance. Yes, it's not great, up there with the 8 and 9 and 10 scores. But it was a lot for me and, as usual, I didn't miss a beat. As in the quickstep I know of one half-beat that I missed (didn't turn my foot far enough) but other than that I did it as well as I could. We had lifts and flips and kept right together with our legs. No, I don't come on well as a strong overpowering guy. No, we didn't have a lot of intricate foot interlocking. So we played it a bit on the safe side. But what we did, we did fairly well.

The judges scored us a 12. In our confessional Karina and I pleaded with them to change it to a 10 just because 10 sounds like a better number. That's the geek thing to do. I have been saying that the judges love me but hate my dancing. I hope I'm right that they do love me.

I think after watching our dance that we deserved a score around 20. This is the first time I've said such a thing. It's just my opinion. I feel that the judges have turned up the contrast and award either 9's or 4's and there's not much middle ground.

I always try to keep a strong direction toward what I think is good, in terms of values. I have come to hear from so many inspired strangers who can even see themselves dancing and enjoying it, that I consider this a good thing about my participation in DWTS. A lot of average people, many sitting at their computer terminals all day, see me doing my best on the show and feel a kinship. Many probably even consider or actually do get out and dance a little or take lessons. I'm an example that you can enjoy it even if you have 2 left feet.

But the low scores from the judges pass a different message to these people whom I care so much about. The judges pass the message that if you are not close to perfection then you can be ridiculed and humiliated. This doesn't bother me but it probably bothers many of them.

When I agreed to do some things with Kathy Griffin and appear on her show, I told her right from the start, knowing that she was a comedienne, that she could embarrass or ridicule me all she wants, because the laughter is worth it. But other people may be so shy that the fear of ridicule would stop them from taking important steps in their lives.

I didn't even vote for myself at first. But with the message that accompanies these low judges' scares, I even voted and texted from my 2 cell phones last night, and this morning voted online from about 7 of my own email accounts. It's funny, but I even believe in and want to support myself on this show. It would be easy to back off and not risk knocking some incredible dancing couples off the show, but I'm hanging in there and fighting to overcome my handicaps.

Good news - my foot and hamstring are greatly recovered. This is the 3rd day that I'm not noticeably limp (take it as you will) and not taking aspirin.

Love to all,

Woz

Ty Murray Blogs:

‘There are no shortcuts’

Well, we got by another one. Now we're starting to get to where we're working in conjunction with all the fans that are voting to keep us on the show and we're starting to get some higher scores, which is going to help the cause as well.

It's been great to hear all the feedback from everybody and all the encouragement on the blogs.

There are even people saying they're addicted to the blogs and they're going to have to go through a 12-step program. It's also nice to hear from my sisters, who comment on all the blogs, and I hear from my aunts, family, friends and all kinds of support from all over the county--and that's really great.

You know when you sign on for this show that all but one couple is going to experience losing at this. Nobody really knows how the elimination show is going to turn out. I don't even think the couples who have the highest scores ever feel like they're a shoe-in for this because your scores are only half the deal and the fan vote is the other half.

It's just really hard to say what's going to happen because there's no telling how many millions of people are voting.

The season-premiere was the biggest premiere ever for "Dancing with the Stars." It had 31 million viewers and that's a lot of people. Then you look at people that are voting 30-some, 40-some, 50-some times, you're looking at astronomical numbers and figures coming in and nobody has any idea who's getting how many votes.

They keep it absolutely top-secret. But I don't worry about that stuff.

It's just like my riding career, you can't worry about all the things you can't control. I have to keep my focus on the things I can control and what I can control is how much time I put into this and how hard I work at it. Beyond that, the rest of it is out my control.

So, as I mentioned yesterday, this week Chelsie and I have the Pasodoble.

If you're waiting for an easy dance, well, it's not going to come. They're all really difficult for different reasons and I know exactly what to expect on Wednesday morning, so it'll be a matter of Chelsie starting to get it choreographed. Then she'll teach me the basics of it and we'll start working on all the form and technique.

That's the part where you feel like you're sliding backwards and it starts getting really tough, but you keep listening to your coach and you just do it over and over. She critiques it and you do it again, and you just keep repeating that time and again.

There are no shortcuts. That is the process.

We'll start on it and, I think, everybody is expecting something from me because the origin of this dance comes from bullfighting, which is kind of funny because I don't feel any more connected to this dance than I do any of them. But I'm ready to go at it full steam ahead.

This is a Latin dance and I bombed so bad on the first Latin dance that, I think, a lot of people are also thinking I'm not cut out to do the Latin dance. It's hard for me so I have something to prove this week, but I've learned so much through this process than what I knew when Chelsie and I first began.

It's still a big challenge. The whole idea behind this show is a big challenge.

We're going to go at first thing in the morning so I'll check back in tomorrow night and let everybody know how the first day of practice went.

Dancing with the Stars Episode Recap: Tuesday, March, 31, 2009

Two new dances mean two celebrities get the boot this week on Dancing with the Stars, while Kevin Rudolf and Boyz II Men take the stage. So who, uh, reached the end of the road?

How is this going to work this week? Bottom four? Bottom three? Is there going to be a dance-off? I'm so confused. Anyhow, time for another recap of Monday night. Chuck will give Bruno a crispy pizza in exchange for an eight or a nine. It doesn't really work that way, hon. LT's disappointed and bitter. Holly apologizes for falling off the stool. Dmitry says it's OK... except that it's not... because he's lying. Cheryl's hitting on Gilles, or something to that effect.

And now for a nice treat: The encore is back — featuring, duh, Gilles and Cheryl. Does this mean there's no dance-off? Yes! Tom tells us there's no dance-off tonight since it's a double axing. Thank God. I don't need to see Holly fall and actually break a rib.

First two safe couples:
Gilles & Cheryl
Lawrence & Edyta

First couple in bottom 3:
Holly & Dmitry

After a rave featuring Kevin Rudolf and the pro gals in their best pleather dominatrix gear (it's either that or GLAD bags), Samantha grills LT on his frustration with the dances and scores. Apparently Edyta didn't get the dial-down-the-pep memo because if it weren't for her, you'd think he was in danger of leaving. Try to enjoy it, dude. Elsewhere, Bruno the Oompa Loompa does something naughty. Maybe he got his crispy pizza? I don't know what that means.

Another safe couple:
Shawn & Mark

Next week, half of the couples will dance the Viennese waltz, which apparently we need a refresher for (courtesy of Louis van Amstel) even though we've seen it for three straight seasons already. Hey, how about you show me the rumba you've featured since forever? At least Cloris is nowhere near the premises.

Another safe couple:
Chuck & Julianne

Second couple in bottom 3:
Steve-O & Lacey

Now is more fluff, but good fluff. Marshmallow fluff. Boyz II Men is here, hopefully to belt out "End of the Road." Heh. But it's Motown Philly that's back again, minus one, of course. Who do you think you are? American Idol? I kid. I don't even watch Idol. Shawn Stockman looks exactly the same as he did 20 years ago and is still skinny as hell. How do you do it, man? Steve-O seems completely resigned to going home at this point. Whatever happens is what's supposed to happen? Sure, but c'mon. Even Holly's faking it better. No pun intended. Sam wants to know how he'd feel "if tonight ended the rest of this competition for you." Like a champion, godammit! Steve-O's not used to dealing with pressure without drugs and alcohol... so this is a step in the right direction? Dancing: My Anti-Drug. By the way, what's with the judges praising everyone except Steve-O in that contestant package? I don't like ominous foreshadowing.

Two more safe couples:
Lil Kim & Derek
Melissa & Tony

Finally, after Percentage Conversion for Dummies/shameless plug for AT&T (a scoring package in laymen's terms), we learn Steve and Karina are in the bottom three, which means Ty and Chelsie, and David and Kym are safe.

So who's bouncing?
Holly & Dmitry... and... Steve & Karina. And they exit as "End of the Road" blares over the speaks. Oh, show. And to think I was going to go to bed disappointed.

America did good, no? The brains and the blond are gone. I have absolutely no objections. I liked Holly and her attitude, but she just never delivered. Woz was, well, 'nuff said. At least Karina and Maks can plan their wedding now.

'Dancing' Stars Say Goodbye to Holly and The Woz

It was a "Dancing with the Stars" first on Tuesday night as two couples were sent home, and ET is backstage with the contestants after partners Steve Wozniak and Karina Smirnoff, and Holly Madison and Dmitry Chaplin were eliminated from the competition.

Steve and Karina explain to ET that not only did they have a great time together, but they also learned a lot from one another.

"I've already told you, you've heard me say it -- you brought the love of this dancing to my life," Steve tells Karina. "You taught me something I never thought I could do. You always have those teachers in your life that you remember, you're the tops now."

Holly Madison tells ET that being a "Dancing" contestant was a dream come true.

"We had an amazing four weeks on the show, we had so much fun," Holly says. "All the cast members are so amazing. It was always a dream of mine to do the show so I'm really happy I got the opportunity to do it."

Watch the video to see the remaining contestants bid farewell to the eliminated couples, and former "Jackass" star Steve-O competing on the show while abstaining from drugs and alcohol.

ET Parties with 'Dancing with the Stars''s Tom Bergeron

Tom Bergeron is best known for his witty banter as the host of "Dancing with the Stars" and "America's Funniest Home Videos." Now, he puts his words to paper -- and only ET is there for Tom's first book party.

I'm Hosting as Fast as I Can, in stores on Tuesday, April 7, offers a series of humorous and inspirational essays on surviving Hollywood, including behind-the-camera stories with A-list celebrities.

"I write about a number of times when I was fired, canceled, downsized, laid off, didn't know where the next job was coming from," Tom tells ET. The subtitle Zen and the Art of Staying Sane in Hollywood, speaks to how I dealt with those times. If there's anything in this book if because of how I share my experience it resonates with anyone who's going through some hard times now, then that's something I'd be very pleased with."

Tom, who appears calm, cool and collected in front of the camera, reveals the journey -- often humorous -- it took to get himself to this place. In his book, he relates funny stories about earlier jobs in his career, including stories about doing an episode of "Star Trek," ruffling feathers at "Miss America," and a bungling incident -- live on air -- at the Massachusetts state lottery drawing. He also talks about his zany years on the set of "Hollywood Squares," his friendship with Whoopi Goldberg, and his surprising Emmy win.

Watch the video to see Karina Smirnoff, Maksim Chmerkovskiy, Edyta Sliwinska and other "Dancing" stars reveal their favorite things about Tom as well as some interesting facts you may not know about the TV star!

Karina Smirnoff: Steve Wozniak's "Definitely Going to Be in My Wedding"

Steve Wozniak and Karina Smirnoff may have been booted off Tuesday's Dancing With the Stars, but their days together are hardly over.

"He definitely is going to be in my wedding," Smirnoff -- who is engaged to Maksim Chmerkovskiy-- told Usmagazine.com after the show.

Will he be on a Segway, perhaps? (Wozniak made Smirnoff ride the two-wheeled, stand-up scooter on a recent show).

"Possibly, but I won't be on a Segway!" she told Us. "I think I've Segway-ed my way out of this! But yeah, I definitely want him in the wedding."

She said she wasn't surprised when they were sent home. On Monday's show, they received the lowest score, a 12 out of 30, for their Argentine tango. The week before, they earned a 10 for their samba but managed to stay on the show thanks to viewer votes.

"I think Steve had a little more in him, as far as entertainment value, and could really please people at home," Smirnoff told Us. "We did much more than anyone even on the show expected from us."

Out of all the celebs, Wozniak was a challenge, she said.

"You can't compare Steve to Shawn Johnson," Smirnoff told Us. "Dance-wise, I had a little bit more work. But then personality-wise, I think he is top notch."

Even though she's been voted off, she says she'll be back on DWTS next week.

"We are dancing to 'At Last,' and Etta James is singing!" Smirnoff told Us. "She's a legend! You don't get many chances in life for something like that!"

Who will be Smirnoff's dancing partner?

"Maksim, of course!" she told Us. "There's a slight meaning to 'At Last' - we're together at last!"

Melissa Rycroft Sets Record Straight On Rumored Playboy Offer

Melissa Rycroft wears some very revealing outfits on “Dancing With the Stars.” But is the reality beauty ready to bare all for Playboy?

According to a report by Star magazine, Playboy boss Hugh Hefner extended a $500,000 offer to Melissa to appear in the men’s magazine. The report even went on to say that Hef penned a personal letter to the brunette.

Following Monday night’s show, Access Hollywood caught up with Melissa to ask her to set the record straight.

“Is that true?” Access’ Tony Potts asked Melissa on the “Dancing” set.

“I don’t know where that started,” she scoffed.

“That’s for me! Hugh Hefner wants me as the centerfold,” her “Dancing” partner Tony Dovolani joked.

“No, no,” Melissa laughed.

‘Dancing’s’ Gilles Marini Spills His Bedroom Secrets

Gilles Marini went from wooing Samantha Jones in “Sex and The City” to quickening the pulses of millions – including judges Bruno Tonioli and Carrie Ann Inaba – on “Dancing With the Stars.” But there’s only one woman for this hunky new star of the ballroom – his wife, Carole.

“We [have had] a very good relationship for 11 years,” Frenchman Gilles told Billy Bush for Access Hollywood and “The Billy Bush Show.” “I think the secret is to really keep it alive in the level of communication and I guess a lot of sex.”

While Gilles steams up the ballroom with partner Cheryl Burke – to the tune of the first perfect score of the season on Monday night – he steams up the bedroom at home with Carole.

“If we don’t do it, something is wrong. We just keep practicing,” he laughed.

But Gilles made sure to clarify to Billy he is not sex mad.

“It’s more like, how do I say it, um… it’s not like, ‘I want to do this!’ It’s like both of us are really happy to go home at night and have fun, you know?” he said.

While Gilles keeps the saucy details of his sex life private, he is gearing up to show more skin on “Dancing.” And, the actor said, he is in top physical condition thanks to the show.

“Because of dancing, I’m in the best shape of my life right now, because of all the cardio we go through and the moves,” he said. “I [have] got muscle where I didn’t have muscle before. It’s exciting because — I can’t say it too much — but next week is the best week I will have on ‘Dancing With the Stars.’ Next week is going to be so entertaining, and you’re going to see a lot of me.”

An interesting article:

Melissa Rycroft’s Sweet Revenge: ‘Look at Me Now!’

Melissa Rycroft is getting used to being hugged.

In the past few weeks, the former Bachelor contestant turned Dancing with the Stars front-runner has been embraced — literally — by everyone from waitresses to fellow shoppers at the mall, to American Idol’s top dawg, Randy Jackson.

Spotting the judge as she walked from her trailer on the lot where both DWTS and Idol tape, Rycroft couldn’t believe Jackson even knew who she was. “He was like, ‘Heeeeeeey, how are you?’ ” the 26-year-old Dallas beauty says. And, then, of course, it happened: Jackson pulled her into a big bear hug.

“Just three months ago I was on the other side,” Rycroft says in the latest issue of PEOPLE, on sale Friday. “I am so not a celebrity.”

Still Nursing Wounds
But ever since her six-week engagement to Jason Mesnick on The Bachelor ended when he dumped her on national TV for runner-up Molly Malaney, she has become just that. Seven days after the televised kiss-off, Rycroft was on DWTS, where public sympathy — and her natural dancing ability — has made her a fan favorite.

Yet despite her way with the waltz, fame was never part of Rycroft’s plan. Instead? The former Dallas Cowboys Cheerleader intended to spend the months after her Bachelor split nursing her wounds. “I go through stages,” Rycroft says of her grieving process. “I will shut down and lock myself in my room. And then I’ll get to the point where I can’t be by myself and I have to be around other people all the time. Otherwise I’ll drive myself nuts crying. I cry it out. Then one day I wake up and go, I’m okay.”

And if Rycroft sounds like an old pro at bouncing back after breakups, it’s because Mesnick wasn’t the first guy to let her get away.

An intersting article:

Tuesday’s Dancing: What You Didn’t See

Oh, Snap!: During the show’s pre-taping, Julianne Hough suffered a wardrobe malfunction when the back of her top snapped while performing to the Kevin Rudolph Band. Hough, of course, never missed a beat. She charged through the rest of the performance with an arm across her chest, holding up her top, then went to get her top fixed before running through the performance again. Tom Bergeron grabbed the mic and told the crowd, “This time, we’re going to see if Julianne Hough’s top fully comes off.” It didn’t.

Stars Missing in Action: The dancers took their marks on stage following a commercial break, but two were noticeably missing. Kym Johnson could not find her partner David Alan Grier, and was seen asking, “Where’s David? Where’s David?” Seconds after the show started, Grier was seen slinking onto the floor. Moments later, Gilles Marini was also seen scurrying to his position behind his partner Cheryl Burke. Later, a guest asked Marini what he was doing. “I was eating a pizza!” he said.

An Ear-Splitting Bruno: At one point during the broadcast, Tom Bergeron told viewers that it was best they didn’t know what Bruno Tonioli was doing. So what was the judge doing? Tonioli pulled his left leg straight up and placed his foot toward his ear like a split — a sight that prompted at least one audience member to say, “It was very frightening.”

Feeling Frisky: Meanwhile, the usually reserved Len Goodman was shaking things as well. As soon as he walked to his chair at the judges’ table, he immediately turned to the audience and ripped open his blazer to show off his canary-yellow shirt. The audience cheered with approval. Goodman’s mood was equally sunny: He was seen dancing in his chair throughout the night.

David Alan Grier Blogs:

DWTS -- Safe again!

I hate Tuesday's. As they whittled down the couples last night, we went from "I know we're safe" to "Let me get my farewell speech ready"...very nerve wracking.
But...We are S-A-F-E !!! ON to next week. Kym and I are dancing the Viennese Waltz.
Our song is "I Put A Spell On You". A mysterious, and moody arrangement. I'm really excited about it.
Kym is working on some beautiful choreography and I am eating my breakfast getting ready to head back into battle.
We have to step up our game every week now cause they are chopping heads, and it's no joke.
Thank you to everyone for all of your online support. We dance on...

Maksim, Karina, and Shawn Arrive at One Sunset

After a long and draining elimination, it's important that all of the Dancing with the Stars contestants unwind a little with some R and R.

Maksim and Karina arrived first at One Sunset in West Hollywood on Tuesday night. Although Karina said she was, "Sad," I'm sure having Maksim walk her hand in hand into the club made her feel better.

Shortly after the engaged couple's arrival, Olympic medalist Shawn Johnson showed up with nothing other than a smile ear to ear on her face. The teenaged cutie looked adorable in an all white outfit.

Although we will miss Karina and Woz, we are so happy that Shawn is still in it!

Holly Madison on Leaving DWTS: "I Can Heal Now"

Being booted off Dancing With the Stars so early has its plusses, Holly Madison tells Usmagazine.com.

"I can heal now," says the Girls Next Door alum, 30, who suffered inflamed muscles around her ribs last week. "My body's really taken a beating."

After earning a low 16 out of 30 for her Argentine tango, she says she "expected" to go home.

"We've had an amazing four weeks," she tells Us, adding that her partner Dmitry Chaplin has been "a great trainer... we'll absolutely keep in touch."

Says Chaplin: "I've enjoyed every second. Without her, I wouldn't be here!"

Will Madison keep dancing?

"Not like this," she says. "But I sure learned a lot about dancing!"

Next up? A new reality show.

Although she can't reveal details, Madison tells Us: "I'm going to Vegas this weekend to film some of it. It's going to be really fun!"

Carrie Ann Inaba blogs 'DWTS,' week 4

First of all, I’m sorry for the late posting. My cat had to go to the hospital last night so I didn’t get to finish up the blog. He’s doing well but he’s quite aged -- 19 years old -- and he’s got a large growth in his lungs. So, we welcome prayers for his health. He’s a wonderful cat and has been a strong support system in my life. He’s the one with me in my PETA ad. His name is Shadow…and if you met him, you’d love him…but I know you are all are waiting to hear about this week and ready to share your thoughts.

Thank you again for your responses last week. Some of you were still confused about the voting but I think if you re-read what I wrote last week, it will make sense. This week, nothing went wrong with the voting or scoring from the judges, but I think most of you saw that when Tom announced a contestant, the wrong video package started -- that was a little mishap that happened. From what I hear, our technical director was sick -- and considering the state he was in, he made it through the show with flying colors. We had a lot of sick folks this week. Samantha was under the weather, although looked gorgeous as usual. Her voice was a few octaves lower than usual (and quite sexy I might add) but we give her props and congratulations for making it through what was quite a rough week on her. She’s on vocal rest this week, so if you happen to run into her, don’t tempt her to speak. It’s very bad for the vocal chords to whisper….so let’s wish Samantha well this week and a speedy recovery!

This week was an exciting week. There were performances that really shifted the dynamic of who is who in the top three contestants and why they are there. Lil' Kim really came out from behind and pushed her way past Shawn Johnson to secure a nice spot in the top three. She proved herself with that incredible routine choreographed by Derek Hough. Her sophisticated side came out in the Argentine Tango and I think she has found a new side of herself as a performer. With Lil’ Kim, I have to say that I am very curious to see where her career will go after this season. No matter where she ends up in our show, I do believe that she will have rejuvenated her career and will have many opportunities open up to her if she continues like this, unveiling layers and unearthing new facets of her performing persona.

Once again, the star of this week was Gilles. Yes, he is a sexy performer and exudes something very attractive on the dance floor; however, what made his performance this week was the minimalist approach to the routine. You see, performers who don’t have substance cannot do routines like that. The choreography was without flashy and distracting moves, it was instead filled with sustained simplicity that required real control and a sustained emotional connection to the dance and performance that cannot be faked. This is what made Gilles the star in my opinion. Yes, the “sexy” is great, but what is fantastic is the depth with which he performed that Argentine Tango. I think it may have been the most powerful and moving dance I’ve ever seen on our show. Congratulations to Gilles and Cheryl for creating real art on our television studio stage. It was not an easy accomplishment.

Another exciting moment for me was seeing Ty Murray and Chelsie’s Lindy hop. This guy is such a wonder to me. I have spent a lot of my career working with non-professional dancers, performers who are new to the idea of “performing.” I would put Ty into this category. Although he is a highly respected bull rider, I would not consider that a performance -- you are not trying to please the crowd with what you are doing. In fact, the crowd is there more to witness the “ride” and your ability. This is a different dynamic than creating a performance for the audience’s enjoyment. Usually, non-performers do not know how to use their arms very well. In general, if you look at society, a lot of people have terrible posture. Their upper bodies are lifeless and expressionless. They never learned how to use that part of their body. (Of course, Bruno is the opposite of what I am talking about.)

Because of this, I find it so great to see a non-performer with such strength and control and agility in his upper body. This is what makes him so fantastic to watch and has helped enable him to grow by leaps and bounds. This is also without a doubt because his partner Chelsie is a great teacher. They have wonderful chemistry together. Chemistry is not always sexual. They have a partnership that is filled with a mutual respect and understanding of each other that is apparent with every step they do on the dance floor. Real trust means that they can take real risks in rehearsal so that he can grow the way he is growing on the dance floor. Congratulations Ty and Chelsie! Great work this week. How will he do when he gets something like the Samba? I’m not sure how his hips will work but I’m sure he’s up for the challenge. Next week there are two dances that he should do well with -- the Paso Doble and the Viennese Waltz. Both of these dances have a structure to them and a posture that is more on the upright side of the scale of upright to sensuous and curvy. So, I expect that they will do well next week again.

BTW, did you see Jewel in the audience? She looked beautiful. I love that simple look of an easygoing hairstyle with very glamorous jewelry and a classic black dress. She’s adorable. I hope she ends up doing our show next season. It looks like her foot is slowly healing. I didn’t see her come in with crutches this week. I’m glad there wasn’t permanent damage.

Okay -- on to what you all want to talk about -- the double elimination. What did you think? I found it quite sad. I didn’t like losing two couples. Especially because the two couples we lost were obviously very nice people. Holly Madison -- I just have to share this: Because I’ve been working in television for over 20 years doing dance and choreography, I always watch people’s professionalism on stage when the camera’s are off. Let me tell you that some of the coolest people on screen are completely self-absorbed and rude off-screen.  I’m sure you all know this already. But what was so impressive about Holly was that she was usually the first one out on her mark when we’d come back from commercial break. The stage manager Rob also told me after she was eliminated that she was like that at rehearsals as well. We are not allowed in the building during their rehearsals but I think she should be commended for that. It is a nice quality to see in a person. From a choreographer’s point of view, that is an important quality to have. So, it was sad to see her go. I found her also to be an interesting person to get to know. I wish her well on her next adventure.

Now what about the WOZ? It was his time. I think had he lasted any longer, it would have been uncomfortable to watch. I know he pulls at your heartstrings. He pulled at mine too, and I am honored to have had the chance to meet such a genuine and sweet person. And it was a joy to see someone find such joy in what I have committed my own life to -- DANCE. That does not happen often and for that I will always hold a special place in my heart for THE WOZ.  Good luck Steve…I bet he continues in social dance classes…look for him on dance floors near you!

I would now like to share with you ladies out there something about the dress I was wearing on Monday. I get questions in my inbox about what I wear on the show. Designers loan me dresses to wear -- so far, I’ve worn dresses from Nikolaki, Randolph Duke and then this week I wore a dress from Jean Fares Couture and I have to say it was incredible. I have never seen a dress like this and since you all only get to see the top half of my dress, I wanted to share it with you. It will be posted on my website later today

Last but not least -- I thought Tuesday's performances were fantastic! I loved watching Artem dance. He was in the number that Derek choreographed to Kevin Rudolf’s performance. It was fantastic. That number was impactful! You didn’t see that Julianne’s top almost fell off during the first pre-tape. So they had to do it again. The performance by Boyz II Men was incredible. They are so talented and such crowd-pleasers. I haven’t seen such an energetic performance in a long time. I’d like to see Wanya Morris (the one in the middle last night) come on our show as a contestant. He’s got such a sweet face and can move like you wouldn’t believe unless you saw it in person. Well, for now, we’ll just stay focused on this season.

Until next week, thanks for being here and reading. Sorry I didn’t answer a lot of questions, but I will next week. This week was very busy -- I choreographed the finale of the Kids' Choice Awards with Dwayne Johnson and a special appearance of the Jonas Brothers, and then presented at the Genesis Awards, where they honor the media for various levels of exposure of inhumane treatment of animals. So, I’m a little pooped this week. Keep sending me your questions and I will answer more next week.

Have a great week. And thank you for watching our show. I LOVE THIS SEASON!

Best,
Carrie Ann

ABC Television Network

PRESS RELEASE

OVERNIGHT ABC RATINGS (FOR 3/31)

Leaping from its Lead-in Opposite "Idol" and Soaring from Start to Finish, ABC's "DWTS Results" Outdraws NBC's "Loser" at 9pm by 3.4 Million Viewers

"Dancing with the Stars Results" is Up from its Most Recent Airing Against "Idol" Greatly Improving the Time Period for ABC, "Cupid" Debuts with Solid Young Adult Lead-in Retention and Tops CBS' Veteran "Without a Trace" in Adults 18-34

"Dancing with the Stars Results" (9:00-10:00 p.m.)
Leaping from its lead-in by (+9.9 million viewers and +222% in Adults 18-49) opposite an extended edition of "American Idol" and surging throughout its telecast, ABC's "Dancing with the Stars Results" outdrew its NBC unscripted competition during the 9 o'clock hour ("Biggest Loser") by 3.4 million viewers (13.0 million vs. 9.6 million).  Building throughout its broadcast, "DWTS Results" saw its audience soar by 4.2 million viewers and by 46% from start to finish.

* Compared to two weeks earlier when the show most recently had to compete against an extended "Idol," "DWTS Results" was up in both Total Viewers (13.0 million vs. 12.7 million) and Adults 18-49 (2.9/7 vs. 2.8/7).

"Cupid" (10:00-11:00 p.m.)
Debuting in the 10 o'clock hour with solid young adult lead-in retention against established original dramas on NBC ("Law & Order: SVU") and CBS ("Without a Trace"), ABC's "Cupid" earned second place among Adults 18-34 (1.8/5 vs. 1.5/5) and Women 18-34 (2.4/7 vs. 1.8/5), beating its CBS competition by 20% and 33%, respectively.  "Cupid" retained a solid 85% of its "DWTS Results" lead-in among Adults 18-34 and 79% among Adults 18-49.

* "Cupid" greatly improved the time period for ABC, up by 23% in Total Viewers (7.6 million vs. 6.2 million) and by 35% in Adults 18-49 (2.3/6 vs. 1.7/5), over the Net's average with original drama programming in the hour this season ("Eli Stone").

A note about increasing DVR penetration and year-to-year rating comparisons: Year-to-year rating comparisons based on the Live + Same Day data stream are distorted by the level of DVR penetration in the Nielsen sample, which has jumped up to over 30% currently, from 23% at the same point in 2008. More viewers are watching shows on their own timetables, which may not be reflected in the overnight next-day numbers. The only truly valid year-to-year comparison would be one based on the Live + 7 Day metric, once those stats are released by Nielsen.
