Dancing with the Stars Episode Recap: Tuesday, March 24, 2009

Twelve gets trimmed to 11 as the second star gets auf-ed on Dancing with the Stars. Think you know who it is? Don't bet on it.

Time for a recap of last night. Sigh. The fan reaction reminded LT of the Super Bowl. I think this is sacrilegious to say, no? Denise thinks she's in the bottom two and Maks is not amused. Karina and Steve have a new move for next week: The Pillsbury dough boy laugh. Don't write him off yet, guys.

Before we get down to business, Tom tells us next week there'll be a double elimination. Hey now! Dramatic, yes. Did they finally realize they wasted the first week? Or is it a ploy to ensure Woz will be out if he's safe this week?

First four safe couples:
Melissa & Tony
Gilles & Cheryl
Shawn & Mark (smart to get these out of the way)
Steve & Karina (Revenge of the Nerds! Karina blows out my eadrums. It's kind of endearing. The judges golf-clap. At least Bruno's not rocking the bitchface again. Major mistake dusting off those 3 paddles. Guess they can shill out the dough boy next week.)

Did Sam just call Gilles "Joe"? She grills Melissa more on how easy it is for her to dance. We're gonna beat this dead horse, aren't we? And Sam, Tom's not the only one not listening to you.

Four more safe couples:
Lawrence & Edyta
David & Kym
Chuck & Julianne
Lil Kim & Derek

They'll be back next week to do one of two new dances: the Lindy hop or the Argentine tango. What are they, you ask? Well, they just so happened to have Cloris Leachman and Corky Ballas on standby to kill more time. I would pay to have all of the couples duplicate these two's routines. The Lindy hop is something about a young woman and swing. The Argentine tango is something about gauchos being seduced by grandmas. Cloris nearly kicks Corky in the crotch, and they make out. Somewhere, Mark is dying. As am I.

And now we have Hall & Oates (really, guys?) with "Maneater" — aka Karina (duh!) looking like a reject from Fame. She takes Maks' soul at the end. I mean, Eskimo-kiss. Adele follows with "Chasing Pavements." Nothing says making it stateside like appearing on Dancing. Edyta jumps out of nowhere wearing literally a washcloth to dance with her hubby, Alec Mazo... not to mention flash her va-jay-jay to the judges.

Because we have short-term memories, we are treated to an explanation of the dance-off. Again. America's not that dumb, guys. Apparently it's stressful, but it's about second chances. "You don't get many second chances in life," Gilles says. This is not life, babe. I think the dance-off is a good idea in theory, but not in practice, at least their practice. How much can you really improve in less than a day? And if the judges get to vote again, why can't the public? Or why don't you just not factor in the public vote? Oh, right, you guys don't want to take any responsibility for the outcome.

Two more safe couples:
Steve-O & Lacey
Ty & Chelsie

That means it's Holly and Dmitry vs. Denise and Maks. As painful it will be to watch them dance again, I have absolutely no problem with this bottom two. They were both bad. Denise regressed and Holly never improved. I do love the fact that Denise, and ergo Maks, may leave before Steve and Karina, especially since he told me he expects her to last long and his lovely Karina and Woz to get bounced first. Heh.

Holly & Dmitry: Samba
They got a 17 on Monday. She's concentrating on footwork and wants to keep her feet on the ground. Er, isn't that how you dance? Her feet are on the ground. Holly's attacking it this time, as opposed to just following Dmitry around like she usually does. She's still totally awkward from the waist down and is still counting. Len thinks she's hot. Or came out hot. Same thing. There was just one slip-up. Bruno says it outright: she's hot. Carrie Ann likes her feet and that she's a party. Well, it's always a party at the Playboy Mansion. Dmitry tries to make amends backstage for dissing Holly last night. He's proud of her for coming in so late. You mean you don't want to be eliminated.
Score: 18

Denise & Maks: Samba
They got a 16 on Monday. Maks is so beyond over it. Denise basically has to convince him to rehearse in case of the dance-off. He tells her to concentrate less on the steps and more on her facial expressions. Basically, do your day job and act. How ironic is it that a cowboy knows he must pull a DeNiro, but not a Bond girl? Nevermind, I just answered my own question. She's perkier this time and that's really about it. (I meant to ask this yesterday, but why are they samba-ing to Filter?) She still needs a lot of work; she's just so... artless. Robotic. Vapid. OK, that's enough. No, it's not. Don't you love it that the bottom two features two people who've made their name on their looks and sexuality, and yet look so uncomfortable moving in their own bodies? Bruno thinks Denise improved leaps and bounds, but she tends to disconnect in the middle of the performance. Carrie Ann thinks she rocked it under pressure. Len thinks she deserves to stay.
Score: 20 Carrie Ann flips a 6, but they flash a 7. There's an argument about math. Take this outside, guys. Sam stumbles over her words, as usual, and says they got a 23 before getting corrected. Can't speak and can't add either? Life's gonna be rough. Oh, wait...

And Season 8's second casualty is... Denise and Maks. Shock and aww? Not really. Denise never had a solid fanbase and her peronsa is, uh, divisive, to say the least. She improved four points, versus Holly's single point, and still got axed. Nevermind the fact that Woz overcame a friggin' score of 10.

What did you think? Can the Woz be stopped? Were you shocked by Denise's boot? What do you think about the double elimination next week? Are the judges going to tread more carefully knowing the size of the Woz's fanbase now? Who's your current pick to win?

Here's the list of what the stars/pros are performing next week:

Lindy Hop

    * David & Kym
    * Ty & Chelsie
    * Shawn & Mark
    * Steve-O & Lacey
    * Melissa & Tony
    * Chuck & Julianne

Argentine Tango

    * Lil' Kim & Derek
    * Holly & Dmitry
    * Gilles & Cheryl
    * Lawrence & Edyta
    * Steve & Karina

The Argentine Tango is described as:

    * Being based heavily on improvisation
    * a step can be smooth, pulsing, sharp
    * the dancers' chests are closer to each other than are their hips
    * embrace is not rigid, but relaxed, like a hug

The Lindy Hop is described as:

    * basic step, the swingout
    * connected hand-to-hand
    * or connected as though in an embrace
    * Turns and Spins, dips and lifts are common
    * Similiar to the jive

Carrie Ann Inaba blogs 'DWTS,' week 3

What a week it’s been. Whew!!!! Okay, where do I begin? First of all, thank you all for writing. I read your questions and will provide as many answers as I can for you all. I appreciate your comments greatly….and I love blogging!

Let’s start with a neutral area and progress from there…the musical guests. Adele was wonderful tonight performing with such an incredibly passionate and soulful voice. I was mesmerized by her vocal quality. And then, to top it off, having Edyta and Alec dance was just a fancy treat! They are so beautiful to watch together -- I don’t think I’ve ever seen a more beautiful couple than those two. I love those showcase numbers. They really display the talent of our professionals and remind everyone how talented and incredible our pros truly are. We also had Hall & Oates, and Karina starring as “THE MANEATER.” She was fantastic in that red outfit. It reminded me of Olivia Newton-John in Grease when she sang “You’re the One that I Want.” She worked the guys in that number and showcased her power on the dance floor. For those of you who are not familiar with Karina’s incredible dancing skills, you should YouTube her. Look out for Karina's performances with Slavic -- they were a fabulous partnership. The ending of tonight's number was cute when Karina kissed her fiancé, Maks. That’s another real-life couple on our dance floor…and that’s nice to see.

It was cute tonight -- during the Hall & Oates number, Dmitry asked me if he could kiss my hand. I like that he was so polite about it: good old-fashioned manners. On a side note, I think Dmitry and Chelsie are doing a great job this year as newcomers. We are grateful to SYTYCD for bringing up these great dancers -- it’s nice to see the synergy between our shows there. But back to this show....

After the jump: Carrie Ann explains how songs are chosen for the performances, and satisfies all your judge-centric foot-fetish needs with photos of the trio's shoes!

Monday night was a fun night…I have to say it again: I LOVE THIS SEASON! The cast is wonderful and really a delight for us judges. I think there is a warmth to this season that makes it fun and friendly -- and in times like this, that’s not a bad thing at all. I was very impressed with Shawn, Gilles, Melissa, Chuck and Ty. They really impressed me this week. Chuck and Ty are finding their way and surprised me with their performances. I will say though, that I find some of the comments by the celebs funny -- especially when Chuck said we might think he’s a dancer just because he’s going out with Julianne. Chuck, no -- we don’t expect you to be a ballroom dancer because you go out with Julianne. We are not unintelligent, my dear. Keep working on your dancing…you’ve got great potential.

Let’s move on to tonight. The dance-off is tough. It’s hard on the poor dancers -- I feel so terrible for them and commend them all for getting out there and not breaking down under pressure. I think Holly and Denise did a good job out there. I can’t tell you people who are not in the studio how much pressure is on the bottom two at the moment they have to do the dance-off. It’s a difficult situation to be in. I was impressed with Denise for her attack tonight. She really took our comments to heart and worked on some of the elements of her performance that were lacking. She seemed to be more confident and less self-aware tonight, which made her performance that much better. It’s a shame she still went home. This goes to show how powerful that audience vote is. She gained 4 points tonight in her score. Bruno went up from 5 to a 7. I went up fro a 6 to a 7, and Len gave her a 7 instead of a 6. So she really did much better in the eyes of the judges. But the audience voted on her other performance and when they were combined, it didn’t help her out of the bottom spot.

OH, speaking of the scores. There was a scoring mishap tonight. Let me explain what happened. We score on a piece of paper. All three judges write down their scores on a piece of paper and I hand it off to Rob, our stage manager, who takes it to the booth where the producers and graphics person are waiting for it so they can type it in -- so when we actually show our paddles, they have the piece of paper in hand (and the numbers are displayed on-screen). Tonight there was a mix-up between Bruno's score and my score. Bruno gave Denise and Maks a 7 and I gave them a 6. I think that most people figured it out just by looking at it. It was just a mix up that was not that big of a deal. Denise’s score was in fact a 20 and Bruno and I held up the correct paddles that represented our actual scores, the ones we'd written on the paper. So, there was no real problem. If you want all the nitty gritty details, let me know and I’ll post it.

Okay let’s move on….WOW….STEVE was safe! Good for him. I think the public loves him. And I can understand why. I do too. I just have a certain criteria by which I must judge all performers. My job is to give my critique and professional opinion -- but lucky you, you all get to vote anyway you please and can just follow your heart...and I encourage that! I think Steve W. gives a great show -- I admire him for his tenacity and I'm happy to see that we have created a dance fan! He is a true dance enthusiast now. You can see how this experience is changing his life. This is a beautiful thing to see. He’s a good egg, that Steve W. I’ve never seen so much joy in a newbie to dancing. I give him respect for that. I smile more watching him than I do some of the people who get great scores. I think we all need a bit of that right now.

Let's see, what else...Oh yes, let me answer a question. Someone asked about the music. I spoke to the producers today to get the accurate explanation. The dancers (pros) are given the opportunity to give the producers a list of songs that they might want to dance to for the season, before the season starts so that the producers can clear the music. However, according to the producers, the pros don’t all create a list. Also, the pros are asked again, once they've been paired with their celebrities, to create a list of songs they might like to dance to. Unfortunately, it seems that not everyone gives their input. And for television, the producers have to think ahead so that they can clear the music for the shows…it’s a long process. So, the answer is that the pros have the option of having input on the song selections, but sometimes, it doesn’t quite all work out.

The costumes are designed by a team led by Randall Christensen and Howard Sussman. Those dresses are incredible works of art. The amount of work it takes to create those outfits is mind-boggling. They are very expensive to create and are often repurposed for the Dancing With The Stars Tour so that they don’t go to waste…it’s a costume recycling that happens. This is good for everyone!

Well, I hope you enjoyed this week as much as I did. I think it was a great show on Monday, and Tuesdays will always be a bit tougher on everyone because of the elimination. But that’s how it goes.

One last thing…people are always asking me to tell you something about what you didn’t see so tonight I’ve included three pictures of some things you never see on the show.

Len: Shoes by Kurt Geiger; Bruno: Shoes by R.M. Williams; Carrie Ann: Shoes by L.A.M.B.

Yes...that would be the judges' shoes. So, for all you people with a shoe fetish, in case you were wondering what we wear under that desk -- here are the shoes we wore on Tuesday night’s show. ; ) Enjoy.

And see you next week. They are doing the Argentine Tango and the Lindy Hop. I’m going to go easy on the lifts….You have to do a few tosses for the Lindy Hop to be a Lindy Hop! And next week, I’ll explain what a lift is as defined for our show.

Oh -- tune in to the Kids' Choice Awards on Saturday to see the number I choreographed. It’s going to be fun…Can’t tell you who the surprise guests are going to be but you might enjoy it! And for those of you who want to win two tickets to the season finale of our show, you can bid on my auction at Clothes Off Our Back. I’ve put together a great package for you to bid on if you feel the urge to. I’ll tell you all about it next week -- why I did it and who it benefits. I know some of you are die hard fans of our show -- check it out and see if it’s something you might want to bid on. The proceeds go to charity, to give pediatric cancer patients dance and movement therapy. It’s the most empowering thing you can give them besides a clean slate of health. It’s a beautiful thing…

Hugs to you all.
See you next Monday!

Carrie Ann

New Video: ET With Surprised 'Dancing' Stars

ET was backstage Tuesday night as Denise Richards and Maksim Chmerkovskiy were eliminated from 'Dancing with the Stars' after a dance-off with Holly Madison and Dmitry Chaplin. Denise discusses her experience on the show and the contestants weigh in on the surprise of the night -- Steve Wozniak advancing to the next round!

"I was bummed," Denise admits. "I didn't expect that Steve Wozniak would be my competition, but I'm happy for him he has so much fun on the show and that was a big surprise of the night and I'm thrilled for him. I knew that this was my last shot and I had to do everything I could to stay and it wasn't enough but at least I had fun and I was really thrilled with the judges' response."

Country singer Chuck Wicks explains to ET that it gets harder to say goodbye to contestants each week because everyone becomes friends, and he reveals that he was shocked when he found out Steve Wozniak was safe despite receiving low scores from the judges.

"Wozniak had the lowest score since season two - in 'Dancing with the Stars' history and he still wasn't in the bottom two," Chuck says. "That goes to show you how important the votes are. We definitely need your votes, and it makes everyone nervous."

Watch the video for more of the backstage action and watch the remaining contestants take the floor Monday night at 8 p.m. on ABC.

DWTS 8 had some fascinating dancing tonight, but it was the demos of the Lindy Hop and Argentinian Tango by Cloris Leachman and Corky Ballas. They get straight 10s for comedy.

The dance off between Holly Madison and Denise Richards was interesting. Denise clearly improved and had a boost to her score, but it was not enough to overcome what was clearly a popular vote in facor of Holly. So Denise is eliminated after a really good effort, much better than what has been done by either of the Steves.

It was very funny and it was nice to see her she has incredible strength

Woz's save from elimination what a shocker the same with Steve-O's

I must express your choice of not doing recaps this season is our loss  :'(

Ty Murray's Blog:

'I feel very fortunate'

Well, we got by another week! It can be pretty nerve-wracking waiting up there, especially with the dance off. The comforting thing was that we felt we could improve on last night's dance, which is definitely a good thing. If you don't feel like you can improve on it then that would make it hard to do it again.

Chelsie and I felt like without the slip and without a couple steps I missed that our routine could be a lot better, but luckily we didn't have to find out.

What's nerve-wracking about the results night is that so much of the control of what happens is in America's hands. It's hard to say whose fan base is bigger, who the viewers like and who they don't.

I feel very fortunate that Chelsie and I have a lot of people behind us and supporting us. I think we have a lot of great fan-power behind us and that's definitely helping out.

Unfortunately, all but one couple is going to experience the elimination process so the thing I try to remember is this elimination isn't near as fast or as violent as the one I was used to as a bull rider.

This week we have the Lindy Hop and we're going to start on that early in the morning. We'll get some work done here in Los Angeles on Wednesday and Thursday.

Thursday night Chelsie and I will jump on a plane to Albuquerque so that we can go to the Ty Murray Invitational. I'm really excited about it this year because of it being in a new location. I think The Pit is going to be the most exciting venue that I can think of to watch a bull riding event, so I can't wait.

While we're in Albuquerque we'll practice there on Friday and Saturday and then Saturday night we have to fly back to L.A. to start getting ready for the show. We'll have all our camera blocking on Sunday and we'll practice some here on that day.

Then, hopefully, on Monday night we'll have a great Lindy Hop put together.

I don't know anything about any of the dances, but as soon as I find out what our next dance is I YouTube it and check it out. By looking at it I'm hoping it'll be beneficial to me that it looks like a real physical dance.

There are a lot of lifts so hopefully I'll be able to do some of that with Chelsie and I also hope the physicality of it will help me with my nerves, but I'm sure it'll be a lot like the quickstep in that the steps are coming really fast and furious.

Next week is going to be a double elimination so that means Chelsie and I will work twice as hard.

The really good news is that I feel as though my body and, perhaps, even my feet are starting to get in shape and become used to all of this.

I feel strong right now, I feel lean and my feet feel better than they have been since we started this so, right now, I'm ready to go back to work in the morning.

Woz Blogs:

Woz' post-results-show email is below. Your votes did it!!! THANK YOU!!!

On Mar 25, 2009, at 3:43 AM, Steve Wozniak wrote:

Here is what a friend wrote to me:

this competition is not about winning but your being a role model for everyone showing that you can accomplish so much if you try your best, have a positive attitude, overcome your fears and have the support of your friends.

I heartily agree with that assessment.

A lot of people are glad to see someone like myself having a chance.

A ton of you actually voted over and over and over to keep me in, and it worked. It could even work all the way to the victory. It isn't enough just to want me to win. It takes votes.

I almost dread this Tuesday show, with the dance-off. It's pretty boring for us dancers. We get called out on a few occasions and stand where marks on the floor have our names. We wait and stand and wait.

When we know our dance routines, we can be comfortable and go out and perform it. But on Tuesday, you never know if you are going to make it to the second and third selection. Then you have to portray a face-off and dance again. The 2 worst dances get repeated again on national TV. Each pair has to worry about going up or down a notch.

I had expected, from the lowest judges' scores in 6 years, to likely be in a dance-off. I had my knee pads under my costume. I had even thought ahead far enough to plan on repeating last week's quickstep with its fast footwork or this Samba with the work, on Regis & Kelly this Thursday, which is what happens to the one sent home.

During the first stand-off, where four partners would be 'saved' to dance again, I waited with high anticipation. After 3 couples were 'saved' they led up to the 4th announcement and then paused for what seemed forever. Like the other announced 'saves' I took a breath and held it and hoped, and hoped, and hoped to hear "Steve and Karina." When I heard it I couldn't believe it Karina screamed and I held her saying "Oh my god." I felt like everything including my nerves had been instantly sucked out of me. I was lightly crying for the rest of the show.

The audience cheered their approval and the other dancers made it obvious that they shared our joy.

I was also very glad when Steve O. got saved. We have to find a way to help him with votes if I ever get sent home. I know he'll do the same for me. And that sort of combined votes could make the total difference right to the finals.

Well, it's obvious that with the lowest judges' score in 6 years, friends and fans who voted over and over and over for us did save us, and prove their existence to the producers of Dancing With The Stars.

I am eternally grateful to so many of you who gathered groups of friends and got them to vote on all their phones as many times as allowed. I have to confess that I even let my wife vote on my phones. Karina voted for us on her phone and got the calls on video at our practice last night.

By the way, you saw Karina in a very hot "Man Eater" dance tonight.

It is late and we are starting a new dance tomorrow. So I have to get some sleep after a very long day. I will keep you informed. Please keep voting for me. We have to show that we are not insignificant. The producers did their best to get me to back out because of my injuries. But I was able to dance and proved it. They tried to get me to back out because of embarrassment, saying the judges might give me 2's. I said I don't get embarrassed. I'm not sure why the judges almost always have the same scores within a small range. How do they all know what level of lowness or highness to score? All three judges had scored me incredibly low, but they didn't daunt my enjoyment because I knew how many fans liked and believed in me.

With all of you, nothing can stop me.

Let me repeat what I believe this is all about. This came from my good friend, Bobbi Fisher Velazquez. I met Bobbi when she coordinated a program at Chapman College to save 9th graders in danger of dropping out of school after flunking English. Michael Anthony Hall helped these kids progress in reading and writing, and I did also, in that program. Here is what Bobbi said:

this competition is not about winning but your being a role model for everyone showing that you can accomplish so much if you try your best, have a positive attitude, overcome your fears and have the support of your friends.

Steve-O's Blog: omg he is resilient to pain

steve-o – stayin’ alive on dancing with the stars

Just a friendly neighborhood reminder to tune into ABC’s Dancing With The Stars tonight to see if your voting helped Steve-O and Lacey Schwimmer live to see another dancing day. If for whatever reason they slipped into the bottom two slots on the official leaderboard following last night’s performance and voting, Steve-O and Lacey will immediately be entered into a “dance off,” which just may decide their fate on the show…

Tuesday’s Dancing: What You Didn’t See

I Woz Spared: Computer whiz Steve Wozniak was the surprise hit of Tuesday night’s show. The Woz got the shock of his life when he and partner Karina Smirnoff were declared safe from elimination — to the delight of the studio audience. When the show went to commercial following the announcement, the couple was surrounded by the cast of pro and celebrity dancers offering up congratulatory hugs. The crowd continued to applaud and Wozniak wiped away tears of joy from his eyes. “I watched the audience and there was a huge response and even the other dancers were so nice and responded so nicely,” Wozniak said after the show. “It was the biggest emotional shock I can remember. All the air comes out of you. I couldn’t believe it.”

Even after the show, the excitement of The Woz’s save was still in the air. “It just goes to show you that the fan votes really do matter,” Cheryl Burke told PEOPLE. “He’s pure entertainment. People love to watch him.” David Alan Grier says he’s a fan of Wozniak’s, too. “I’ll vote for him if he gives me a new Mac computer!” Grier quipped.

Support Group: Moments after pairs Holly Madison and Dmitry Chaplin and Denise Richards and Maksim Chmerkovskiy were announced to be in the bottom two, the show went to commercial. That’s when Smirnoff rushed out onto the stage to offer some words of wisdom to each of the couples. “I told Dmitry and Holly good luck and to Maks and Denise, I told them to dance like it’s your last dance because you have nothing to lose,” Smirnoff said. “Last week I was in the dance-off and for the first five minutes I was like, ‘Oh my gosh, we’re in the dance-off, what are we going to do?’ But then I thought what’s the worst thing at the end of the day — we have to go home?”

And according to Smirnoff, there is no downside being partnered with Wozniak–no matter how long the partnership lasts. “Steve finds the positive in everything and everything was so positive, I got to meet Steve, you know?” said Smirnoff. “So that’s why I came out and told them dance like it’s your last dance, you’re gorgeous and just enjoy yourself.”

The sentiment was not lost on Madison, who told PEOPLE after the show, “the support around here is so amazing, I don’t want to leave –- not because I want to win a trophy or earn money – because it’s fun to hang out with everybody every day. This is really an amazing place to be.” As for the dance-off, “it was scary,” Madison admitted. “But now that I’ve done it, it’s over and if I have to do it again some time it won’t be as scary.”

Paddle Battle: The final minutes of Tuesday’s Dancing got a little tense when host Samantha Harris received conflicting information on what the correct score was for Richards and Chmerkovskiy’s dance-off samba. A production staffer told Harris the total of the judges’ scores was 21. No slouch at basic math, Harris saw on the monitor that the sum of the scores on the judges’ paddles — a six and two sevens — added up to 20. As the show went to commercial host Tom Bergeron clarified what had happened: someone thought Inaba gave the couple a seven, but was holding up the number six paddle. “No, no, I wrote a six,” Inaba insisted.

The show went to commercial and a conference of sorts took place at the judges’ table between the judges, a production staffer, and the stage manager. The way the scoring process goes, as soon as the judges see a dance, they each scribble their respective score on paper. The three papers are then handed to a production staffer who rushes them to the control booth just outside the soundstage. That’s when the scores are tabulated and ready to appear on the screen. Somewhere in between a mix-up occurred and indeed, the final score was a 20. All during the conversation, Inaba held up the number six paddle. Fortunately, the situation was resolved and nobody received a spanking.

No Complaint Zone: As a minor, Olympic gymnast Shawn Johnson is restricted in the amount of time she can spend working on the show. “Because I’m only 17, I can only work six days instead of seven, and I can only practice six hours each day,” she told PEOPLE. But Johnson says she refuses to consider herself at a disadvantage, especially when she looks at her fellow competitors who are injured (Steve-O and The Woz) or came into the competition late (Melissa Rycroft and Holly Madison). “Everybody here has disadvantages they are dealing with so this really isn’t a big deal,” Johnson said. “It’s a challenge for us but we’re not going to stand here and whine,” Johnson’s partner Mark Ballas added. “We make the most of our time together. We take Wednesdays off and then we hit it hard the rest of the days straight through and that way she can remember better what I’m teaching her.”

An interesting article:

DWTS' Denise Richards: "I Didn't Think I Was Going"

Denise Richards tells Usmagazine.com she wasn't expecting to be given the boot on Tuesday's Dancing With the Stars.

Due to their low scores Monday, Richards and Holly Madison ended up in the bottom two and were forced to take part in the new DWTS elimination format, the dance-off. (Viewer votes are what kept low-scoring Apple co-founder Steve Wozniak and his partner, Karina Smirnoff, on the show.)

After Richards and Madison both danced the salsa for the second time Tuesday, Richards scored two points higher from judges, but Madison had more viewer votes and got to stay on the show.

"I really didn't think I was going," Richards said on ABC's Jimmy Kimmel Live! "I wished I lasted longer."

But Richards told Us she is pleased with the way she went out.

"The audience response was so gracious and so great," she told Us. "Everyone was very, very supportive. I'm just so happy for everyone else who gets to continue, and who would've thought that Steve and Karina would be in? I'm so happy for them. He loves the show and is having fun."

Now that Richards is off the show, her partner Makism Chmerkovskiy, who is engaged to Smirnoff, has a message for fans.

"Vote Steve and Karina!" he told Us.

DWTS Backstage: Denise Takes It in Stride; Woz Cries

Shock, relief and tears filled the backstage area of Dancing With the Stars tonight as Denise Richards' samba sent her packing.

"For a minute, I thought we had a shot at staying," Denise told E! News backstage after tonight's elimination show. "I’m really glad I got to do the dance over again and get better scores and a better reaction. It was better to go out on that note than last night."

Better scores indeed. Denise and her partner, Maksim Chmerkovskiy, earned five more points in her dance-off against bottom two-er Holly Madison. "I never imagined anybody could improve in a day by five points unless you flat-out fell on the floor," says Maksim.

Find out what Chuck Wicks whispered to Julianne Hough, what made Steve-O say "for crying out loud" and what Jewel still does for hubby Ty Murray...

Chuck Wicks on Preparing for the Worst: "Once they had the first four names and we weren't in there, I whispered in [Julianne Hough's] ear, 'We may want to start practicing the dance a little bit.' "

Holly Madison on the Dance-Off: "It was really scary. I thought for sure that we were gone, out of the competition. I was really freaking out, so hopefully I won't be so scared next time."

Ty Murray on Jewel: Ty tells us that his wife and ex-competitor, Jewel, might be gone from the competition, but she's showing her support...with foot rubs!

Steve-O on Perspective: "This taught me not to take myself too seriously. For crying out loud, this is a dance-off. If your biggest problem is that you screwed up a dance routine or that you’re not on a dance show, I think everything is pretty good."

Steve Wozniak on Being Safe: "That was the most incredible surprise. I was setting myself up to be so happy doing my dance again. When that came, my world turned in an instant...I was crying. I still have tears a little."

Gilles Marini on Woz: "It's not shocking. Remember one thing: Many, many people vote. Maybe [Woz] has 70 percent of the overall vote, so who knows? If people don't vote, we are gone. Even if we have three nines, they still need to vote."

Lil' Kim on Denise: "I've met a totally different person than what we read or see [in the media]. Sometimes that press bothers her—she talked to me [about it]. She’s really a sweet girl."

Are you as shocked as Woz and Steve-O that they didn't get eliminated? Did Denise Richards deserve to go? (Mind if we gloat? We called it last night!)

ABC Television Network

PRESS RELEASE

OVERNIGHT ABC RATINGS

Growing Week to Week, ABC Marks its Strongest Tuesday in 4 Months

ABC's Broad-Appealing "DWTS Results" Takes Second in the 9pm Hour in Viewers and Adults 18-34, While Finishing No. 1 in its Slot with Key Women

 "Dancing with the Stars Results" Jumps Over its Week-Ago Season Opener, Surging Week to Week by 3.0 Million Viewers and by 32% in Adults 18-49

For the 2nd Consecutive Week, ABC News' "Primetime:

What Would You Do?" Achieves a Season-High in Viewers

Tuesday Night (8:00-11:00 p.m.)
Excluding only Inauguration Night on 1/20/09, ABC marked its strongest Tuesday in 4 months in Total Viewers and Adults 18-49 - since 11/25/08.

"Dancing with the Stars Results" (9:00-10:00 p.m.)
Jumping from its week-earlier season premiere by wide margins in viewers and young adults, ABC's "Dancing with the Stars Results" was the second-most-watched show its highly-competitive 9 o'clock time period to CBS' "NCIS," outdrawing NBC's time-slot regular, "Biggest Loser," by 6.5 million viewers (15.7 million vs. 9.2 million).  The wide-appealing ABC unscripted series also earned second in the hour with Adults 18-34, beating "NCIS" by 13% (2.7/8 vs. 2.4/7), while finishing No. 1 in the slot with Women 18-49 (5.2/12) and Women 25-54 (6.7/14).    "DWTS Results" also registered as the night's No. 1 broadcast program with Teens 12-17 (1.7/6) and Kids 2-11 (1.7/7), beating out its network rivals by solid margins.  Actress Denise Richards was the second celebrity dancer eliminated from the competition this season.

* "DWTS Results" surged over its week-ago season opener by 3.0 million viewers (15.7 million vs. 12.7 million) and by 32% in Adults 18-49 (3.7/10 vs. 2.8/7).

* The dancing results program produced a season-high for ABC with regular programming in the time slot among Women 18-34 (3.7/10).

"Primetime: What Would You Do?" (10:00-11:00 p.m.)
During the 10 o'clock hour against the final hour of NBC's "Biggest Loser" and CBS' "The Mentalist," ABC News' "Primetime: What Would You Do?" achieved a season-high in Total Viewers (8.5 million) for the 2nd straight week.  "What Would You Do?" equaled a season-best with Adults 25-54 (3.2/8).

A note about increasing DVR penetration and year-to-year rating comparisons: Year-to-year rating comparisons based on the Live + Same Day data stream are distorted by the level of DVR penetration in the Nielsen sample, which has jumped up to 30% currently, from 23% at the same point in 2008. More viewers are watching shows on their own timetables, which may not be reflected in the overnight next day numbers. The only truly valid year-to-year comparison would be one based on the Live + 7 Day metric, once those stats are released by Nielsen.

Denise Richards & Maksim Chmerkovskiy On Their Difficult ‘Dancing’ Relationship

Denise Richards said goodbye to “Dancing With the Stars” on Wednesday night, alongside professional partner Maksim Chmerkovskiy. But, after all the footage shown of the pair during their difficult rehearsals, is Denise relieved she no longer has to dance with Maks?

“Oh I love him,” Denise told Access Hollywood after she was voted off the show on Tuesday night.

While her parting words were kind, Access has learned that Denise and Maks’ partnership wasn’t always a love fest. From the very first episode, it appeared the two were having problems. But according to Access sources, things got worse, including claims that Maks was very harsh on Denise during the practice sessions. So bad, at times, their rehearsals would have to end.

“He’s a very tough teacher,” Denise told Billy Bush for Access and “The Billy Bush Show” on Wednesday morning. “He was working with someone who had absolutely no dance experience, so I’m sure at times, it’s gotta be hard for the pros to work with celebrities who don’t have any dancing background. But I had fun with him. He had a very funny side that a lot of people don’t get to see. This is his world and he’s a very disciplined dancer and I give him a lot of credit.”

Additionally, Denise denied claims that Maks was verbally abusive towards her.

“Oh Billy… no,” she said. “They have to be a little tough. He wants me to do well, he wants us to go out there and do well together.”

And Maks himself said he learned from his time with the actress.

“Certain things got in the way and we learned our lessons,” he told Access. “I can’t be one way with different people. I have to adapt and adjust to their personalities and all that and thank you [Denise] for teaching me that.”

Gun-Toting Shawn Johnson Fan Arrested

A man claiming he was "meant to be" with Shawn Johnson was arrested early Tuesday morning after trying to sneak on to the set of "Dancing With the Stars" -- and cops say he had two loaded guns and duct tape in his car.

Johnson's mother, Teri, has just filed a petition for a restraining order against the man, 34-year-old Robert O'Ryan. The restraining order seeks protection for 17-year-old Shawn, her mother, her father and her "Dancing" partner Mark Ballas.

According to documents filed by Johnson, "The LAPD searched [O'Ryan's] vehicle and located a loaded .45 handgun, a loaded shotgun, and materials classically used for kidnapping including duct tape, zip ties, a map to the victim. Also found were love letters, clippings and other information on the victim."

According to the documents, O'Ryan told police "He had packed all his belongings and permanently left Florida to drive out here to be with [Shawn Johnson], he believes that she speaks to him personally through the television set and through ESP and that they will have a child together, he stated he would be with her no matter what."

The documents also state O'Ryan "had two loaded guns and other incriminating items and made numerous statements which led LAPD to believe that he is dangerous."

According to the CBS incident report, the whole thing started Monday afternoon when a CBS employee noticed O'Ryan jumping a fence and entering a hallway in the East Studio. Private security confronted him and asked for ID -- and that's when O'Ryan produced an expired concealed weapons license. When guards asked if he had a weapon on him, O'Ryan admitted to having 2 guns in his car. At that point, the guards alerted the LAPD.

In the documents, Johnson claims she's "in fear for her life, she is extremely upset by this incident and her entire family and those around are all extremely concerned and fearful that [O'Ryan] might try to kidnap her or harm her in an effort to make good on his statements."

O'Ryan is currently in police custody. He was booked on suspicion of carrying a loaded firearm in public and is being held on $35,000 bail.

Armed Fan Tries to Break onto Set of 'Dancing With The Stars'

A man arrested for trying to break onto the set of ABC's Dancing with the Stars, was reportedly armed with guns and duct tape.

Court records show a restraining order was issued against 34-year old Robert O'Ryan after his arrest.

O'Ryan reportedly told police he was trying to meet 17-year old Olympic gymnast Shawn Johnson, a performer on the dance competition.

On Monday, O'Ryan was stopped by security after he jumped a fence at CBS Studios, were the show is produced.

Security records indicate O'Ryan said he had packed up all his belongings and moved to California from Florida to be with Johnson.

Police say a search of O'Ryan's car revealed two guns and duct tape.

The gold-medal-winning Olympic gymnast is "in fear for her life," according to court papers filed by Johnson's mother, Teri.

"He believes (Johnson) is speaking to him personally through the television and via ESP and that he will be with her no matter what," Johnson's court papers state.

"This incident has caused us severe emotional distress, we have been on the move ever since and have not been able to rest for fear that this disturbed person will attempt to make good on his statements and attempt to harm my daughter and possibly us as well," Teri Johnson wrote in the papers.

A hearing on whether to extend the order was set for April 14 in Los Angeles County Superior Court.

O'Ryan is being held on $35,000 bail on suspicion of carrying a loaded firearm in public.

'Dancing with the Stars'' Shawn Johnson Files Restraining Order

ET has obtained the restraining order filed on Shawn Johnson's behalf against a man who allegedly tried to crash the set of "Dancing with the Stars" on Tuesday to meet the 17-year-old contestant.

According to the temporary order filed by Johnson's mother, Robert O'Ryan, 34, must not harass Johnson in any way, contact her directly or indirectly, or try to determine her present whereabouts. The order also specifies that Johnson's mother, father and pro "Dancing" partner Mark Ballas seek protection from O'Ryan.

Johnson's publicist tells ET: "The matter has been turned over to the Los Angeles Police Department and the Los Angeles District Attorney's office. It is currently an ongoing investigation and we are confident that it will be handled appropriately by all involved."

According to the restraining order, O'Ryan was arrested while trespassing on CBS Studios in an attempt to contact the Olympic gymnast. At that time, he stated he had permanently left Florida to drive cross country to L.A. because he believes Johnson is "speaking to him personally through the television and via ESP and that he will be with her no matter what."

The order says O'Ryan's vehicle contained two loaded guns and "other incriminating items" such as duct tape. Police also discovered love letters to Johnson.

O'Ryan is being held on $35,000 bail, according to his booking sheet. His court hearing is scheduled for April 14.
