They have 6 weeks to learn two dances for the first week, then one week for each additional dance. The injuries occurred last year during the competition, not during the preliminary rehearsals. It is no surprise that the same could happen during the preliminary rehearsals before March 9.

I'm pretty bummed that Nancy and Jewel are out... at least Shawn Johnson is still in! :) I hope they both recover and hope that their replacements will have enough time to learn the dances!

Source: Dancing Season to Begin with ‘Shocking Reveal’

What will become of Dancing With the Stars this season? Days before the Monday premiere, celebrity contestants Jewel and Nancy O’Dell had to withdraw due to debilitating injuries.

“We’re quite used to dealing with emergencies at our show,” Dancing’s executive producer Conrad Green tells PEOPLE.

While Green says “casting changes” will be announced live on the premiere, a source close to the production tells PEOPLE that the two new celebrity dancers will perform on Monday night with only several days’ worth of rehearsals under their belts.

“It will be a shocking reveal to viewers because these people have had little to no rehearsal time,” the source says.

This will mean that 13 contestants, as originally planned, will hit the ballroom floor for the two-hour premiere night show on ABC.

When contacted, an ABC spokesperson declined to comment.

Gilles Marini Won't Be Dancing's Next Casualty

With singer Jewel and Access Hollywood host Nancy O’Dell having to bow out of the competition due to injuries, actor Gilles Marini tells PEOPLE he does not want to become Dancing’s next casualty.

“I am going to do everything in my power to keep dancing,” Marini says. “I will dance on Monday, no question.”

Marini was diagnosed with tendonitis in his left shoulder and groin area on Feb. 27. and has been taking ibuprofen for the pain and inflammation.

“It’s like I have a knife [in the groin area] and when I move or lunge, it’s like it is turning a quarter turn,” Marini confessed.

The 33-year-old actor will perform the cha-cha with partner Cheryl Burke on Dancing’s season 8 premiere Monday, March 9.

“I will dance and if I see it’s a problem, I have a choice of getting injected with a cortisone shot and the risk of rupturing a tendon is minimal, but it’s there,” Marini says. “We’re going to try to do the first dance and take it from there.”

Will Jewel and Nancy O’Dell Be Replaced on Dancing?

With the shocking news that an injured Jewel and Nancy O’Dell were dropping out of Dancing with the Stars before the show’s season 8 premiere on Monday, March 9, the burning question is: Who’ll replace them?

“We’re not even letting anyone know if we are replacing Nancy and Jewel,” DWTS host Samantha Harris tells PEOPLE. “Monday night is going to be the big surprise. Are we still going to have 13 couples? Will we throw someone in at the last minute, which really isn’t very fair, but that’s part of the excitement of reality TV? Or will we just go with 11 couples?”

And the twists also extend to when eliminations will begin on the ABC show. “There’s the question of whether we’ll start eliminating them right away or will we wait a little bit longer?” says Harris. “This season we had already planned on having no eliminations the first week so we’ll have at least two weeks to see everybody. It’s going to be very interesting to see how it all unfolds.

Dancing executive producer Conrad Green told PEOPLE on Thursday that both Jewel, diagnosed with a fractured tibia in both legs, and O’Dell, who has a torn meniscus that will require surgery, hope to come back to the show and give the ballroom another try.

“This is some serious drama leading up to our big premiere,” says Harris. “We’ve never had two stars drop out due to injury in any one season, let alone before the show has kicked off.”

Steve-O’s (Shameless, Ha-Ha!) Solicitation for Dancing Votes

Say this about Steve-O: He’s never been shy.

The star of reality TV’s Jackass, who has been willing to go to any extreme to live up to the show’s title, took to his blog for what he called a “shameless solicitation” for people’s support when he hits the ballroom floor for the first time on Dancing With the Stars.

“I think I’m ready to surprise many people with my waltz performance on Monday night’s season premiere,” Steve-O (born Stephen Glover) writes. “If you all want to call and text in votes for me, I’d love that!”

He then adds parenthetically: “(I wasn’t planning on asking people to vote for me, but I just did… haha!).”

Ty Murray's Blog:

‘I’m not in spandex or a tutu’

This morning I left Highland, California, where Jewel had her show last night, and drove to Los Angeles. I had a meeting and then I had to go to the tailor for my final fitting--everybody can rest assured I'm not in spandex or a tutu.

I'm just wearing black pants and a black shirt that has some yellow piping on the front. Chelsie's wearing yellow so it matches what she's wearing.

It was pretty cool because the tailor for the show is this guy and his wife, and they own this dingy shop that they've had for 40 years. They make all the costumes for the whole show. They're this little Armenian couple, who have been together for a long time. They were really nice and very helpful.

Chelsie was at her final fitting so I went and picked her up, and then we went to practice.

Yesterday felt like a really good practice and today started out feeling really good, but then it got to feeling really bad because she went back and started trying to refine some things. Whenever that happens, you get back into the mode of thinking about all your different body parts and how to move them that it gets real cerebral again.

You start making a lot of mistakes because you start concentrating on what your hand and arm is supposed to do and your foot won't step the right way or you miss a step or whatever. She could tell it was going downhill so we took a little break, drank of bottle of water and talked for a little bit.

Then we went back in and it got a lot better so our practice went a little longer today then we planned because we a lot to work on and, I think, we're starting to feel the heat of the show premiering in just a couple more days from now.

Chelsie's mom came out and she's been with us for the last few days.

She's really a sweet lady and Chelsie is like a clone of her mom. You can see it right away and there's no mistaking that she's Chelsie's mom.

She watched a little bit of our rehearsal today and gave some really good pointers, which helps because when we're actually going through the routine it's hard for Chelsie to see everything. I mean, she's spinning around and doing all kinds of stuff so it makes it hard for her to see everything.

It was good to have her mom telling me things that she could see. She spent a lifetime watching Chelsie dance so she knows a lot about it.

My best buddies – Cody Lambert and Jim Sharp – are coming out for the first show.

They're my two best friends in the whole world and they're going to out and be in the audience on Monday night. The producers have a really strict dress code for the audience so they're going to be dressed up. They both had to go and get some tailored outfits and buy suits, so they'll be all decked out.

I didn't have a lot of time when I first got to town, because I had a meeting, but I stopped by the place where Jewel and I are going to be staying during the show.

It's going to be OK. It's a gated apartment with two bedrooms and two bathrooms. It has a living room with a fireplace, kitchen and a balcony. It pretty much has all the conveniences of home and it's clean.

It's going to be our home away from home.

Basically I haven't even unpacked yet. I just have bags at the door, where I dropped them earlier, before I hauled out here and went to work all day. I just got back the apartment a little while ago.

The room we rehearsed in today was 67 degrees all day and, to give you an idea of how much of a workout practice was, everything I'm wearing is completely soaking wet. The thing about being in a room that's 67 degrees is that most people need a jacket in a room like that – it gets chilly if you're just sitting there – and we were sweating the whole time.

And that's pretty much it for today.

Dancing With The Stars Numbers are up ( I'll add the 2 replacements once they are up )

About the Vote

HOW IT WORKS:

During the live shows, judges will give a score based on several factors, including technical execution. But the judges' scores alone do not decide a couple's fate.

Phone lines, text votes (AT&T customers only) and online polls will open at the top of each performance show so that viewers can vote for their favorites. Phone and text lines will stay open for 30 minutes after the end of the show. Online voting will remain open until noon (Eastern Time) the next day.

In the Dancing with the Stars Results Show*, the couple with the lowest combined score from judges and viewer votes will be eliminated from the competition**.

The scoring is divided evenly between the judges and the viewers at home, ensuring unpredictable outcomes at the end of every show. When the final two couples remain, the ultimate dance-off will determine who wins the trophy.

*The Dancing with the Stars Results Show will premiere Tuesday, March 17 at 9/8c.

**Week 2 - On Tuesday night, the two couples with the lowest combined score from judges and viewer votes will compete in a Dance Off. Their original set of judges scores will be tossed out and they will perform the same routine again for a new set of judges scores. The new set of scores will be combined with their viewer votes from Monday night and the couple with the lowest combined total will be eliminated.

Viewers can vote via phone, text message or online for their favorites ONLY on the night they perform.

PHONE/SMS NUMBERS:

FORMAT SUMMARY:

Lines open at the beginning of each show for viewers to phone and text vote for their favorite couples and stay open for 30 minutes after the end. The whole country can vote.

One (or more) couple(s) will be knocked out of the competition each week there is a results show. The couple with the lowest overall score is knocked out of the competition.

The scoring and format of the show is unique to the series and is not based on a standard dance championship.

The decision regarding which dances are to be performed by each couple each week rests with the Producers.

THE PROCEDURE FOR ELIMINATING COUPLES:

Each week every couple receives points from the judges and votes from the public. For every couple we work out the share they got of the points given by the judges on the night, and the share they got of the public's votes on the night and we add these two shares together. The couple with the lowest combined total is eliminated from the show.

For example if couple A, B and C receive 38, 26 and 14 points from the judges, we calculate what share these points represent of the total awarded by the judges on the night. In this case the judges gave 78 points in total, and each couples' share of 78 points breaks down as follows: 38= 48.72% of 78, 26= 33.33% of 78, 14= 17.95% of 78. Let's suppose that when the public votes are tallied, each couple has the following shares: A= 20%, B=40%, C=40%. To determine who's eliminated we combine these two shares for the total:

Couple A: 20+48.72%= 68.72%
Couple B: 40+33.33%= 73.33%
Couple C: 40+17.95%= 57.95%

In this case, the bottom two couples would be A and C, and C would be eliminated.

A Night Out With Cheryl Burke and Kym Johnson:Kicking Up Their Heels

THE razzle-dazzle aside, ABC’s “Dancing With the Stars” is more labor camp than reality show, at least for the professional hoofers who make the hit series run.

Each week, they choreograph new routines, coach the celebrities, take part in endless rehearsals, give interviews and — oh, yeah — perform in front of millions of viewers while wearing itty-bitty costumes. During the three-month hiatus between seasons, they anchor the “Dancing” arena tour, traveling by bus.

So Cheryl Burke and Kym Johnson, who have become minor celebrities in their own rights because of the show, decided last Saturday to take full advantage of a rare weekend off. The dancers, who are friends off camera, aimed their sky-high stilettos toward Sushi Roku, a popular entertainment industry hangout near their respective apartments.

Boyfriends were Topic A. The fiery Ms. Burke, part Filipino and part Russian, said she was very happy with her new man of two months, a model, while Ms. Johnson, an impossibly tall Australian blonde, reported that her boyfriend of nine months, a business executive, was still “serious hotness.”

Ms. Burke plucked a fat piece of bluefin sashimi with her chopsticks. “We’re still on for France, right?” she said. When “Dancing” wraps in May, the two couples plan to retreat to a spot near Cannes. Ms. Burke wanted to know if a side trip to Barcelona could be arranged. “I just saw the movie ‘Vicky Cristina Barcelona’ and fell in love with that city,” she said.

Spain might be too ambitious, Ms. Johnson worried. “Whatever happened to our idea about driving an RV around the outback?” she said.

Ms. Burke said: “What’s your definition of outback? I know you, and you’re too high-maintenance for anything other than five-star hotels.” They laughed and asked for the check.

Next stop: MyHouse, a hipper-than-thou Hollywood nightclub that opened in January. (Paris and Audrina have been spotted.) Several hundred would-be starlets were clawing at the velvet ropes outside, but in the chaos Ms. Johnson managed to find a friend, Jack Ketsoyan, who is Tara Reid’s personal publicist and the owner of a makeup and styling agency. Mr. Ketsoyan knew a bouncer, who ushered the trio inside.

MyHouse is styled like a giant mansion, with a living room area downstairs (shag carpet and all) and a master bedroom upstairs (hot tub included). The dancers ordered a round of drinks, then headed to the V.I.P. bedroom, where they hopped on a bed covered in black leather. Before long, they were dancing on it — in heels — as a Mary J. Blige remix thundered overhead.

They didn’t dance much, deciding it would be more fun to people-watch in the living room. Soon the cattiness kicked in. “O.K., can that dress get any uglier?” Ms. Johnson said, nodding at a woman wearing what appeared to be a burlap sack adorned with bugle beads. “And look at the matching purse!”

Ms. Burke shook her head in pity. “It’s like something Cloris would wear,” she said, referring to Cloris Leachman, the 82-year-old actress who caused a stir last fall as a “Dancing” contestant.

Carrie Ann Inaba: Being Over 40 Is Fabulous

Carrie Ann Inaba says just because she's in her 40s doesn't mean life is over.

"I don't look at myself as done, I look at myself as halfway through," the 41-year-old Dancing with the Stars judge tells PEOPLE. "I appreciate my vitality and what life has given me.”

Inaba, whose relationship with dancer Artem Chigvintsev ended last November, says, "Right now, I'm single and happy. I think it's easy for people in their 40s to feel like they've fallen behind something. What that something is I really don't know. [life] might be better because at 40 you know a lot more about a lot of things."

Inaba tapped into her inner youth when she filmed a guest-starring role for Hannah Montana. On the episode, which airs on the Disney Channel March 8, Inaba plays a choreographer who comes in to help Miley Cyrus's character prepare for an upcoming tour.

Inaba, a former In Living Color Fly Girl, even got to showcase her own moves. "Miley and I do a little dancing together," she says. "It made me feel like a kid again."

As for working with one of the hottest teens stars in Hollywood, Inaba says, "Miley was so kind and loving. She helped me out, too. In this one scene I was facing upstage and she was like, 'Carrie, you might want to face this way.' "

Inaba will be back in the judge's seat when Dancing with the Stars returns on March 9.

.... what, she's not a celebrity

Source: Bachelor’s Melissa Rycroft to Join Dancing With the Stars

Jilted by Jason Mesnick on the season finale of The Bachelor, Melissa Rycroft will rebound nicely — on Dancing With the Stars, PEOPLE has learned.

Rycroft, 25, is to fill the slot vacated by Access Hollywood host Nancy O’Dell, who had to withdraw from the competition on March 5 due to a knee injury. According to a source close to the production, the Dallas beauty, who has had only days to rehearse, is expected to perform live on Dancing’s Monday premiere.

Girl Next Door Holly Madison is believed to be taking over for singer Jewel, who also withdrew due to injury. Both Jewel and O’Dell have expressed their desire to return to the ballroom in the future.

A spokesperson for ABC declined to comment.

'The Bachelor''s Melissa Rycroft to Return to TV?

Jilted "Bachelor" contestant Melissa Rycroft will reportedly be back on TV very soon on a top-rated network show!

Rycroft, 25, has been chosen to fill a vacant slot on ABC's "Dancing with the Stars," People magazine reports.

The Dallas beauty will have to start rehearsing immediately since she is expected to perform live on "Dancing"'s premiere Monday night, People quotes a source close to the show as saying. A spokesperson for ABC had no comment on the report.

Music star Jewel announced Thursday that she would not be able to compete on "DWTS" due to injuries. Last week, a source told Usmagazine.com that sexy "Girls Next Door" star Holly Madison star could be replacing Jewel on the show.

Oddly, I think Melissa would be better paired with Dmitry and Holly with Toni but if DWTS doesn’t plan on changing the couples:

Jewel’s Voting Numbers were 800-86834-07  800-VOTE4-07 TEXT IN CODE 3407

( To be replaced for Holly )

Nancy’s Voting Numbers were 800-86834-13  800-VOTE4-13 TEXT IN CODE 3413

( To be replaced for Melissa )

That would explain why Melissa was in L.A. this past week. She originally had no intentions of doing any interviews or press relating to The Bachelor but since she was tapped to replace Nancy on Dancing, she ended up doing only one interview with Ellen and she said she wouldn't do any more and it makes sense because she don't have the time for it and she needed all the time to cramp in as much training and rehearsing to learn the dance for the premiere show tomorrow.

I'm really loving this controversy and not only that, what I really love the most about all this is that it is a major slap in the face to that bastard and his bitch, Jason & Molly! I can almost see Molly having a major meltdown about this. HA HA HA

.... more of the same

‘Bachelor’ Star Melissa Rycroft Joining ‘Dancing’

“The Bachelor” star Melissa Rycroft will join “Dancing With the Stars” for the ABC show’s Monday premiere, Access Hollywood has confirmed, although ABC would not confirm the news yet.

The casting was first reported by People on Sunday.

The former Dallas Cowboys cheerleader, who was dumped on the “After the Final Rose” special by Jason Mesnick after he proposed to her in the “Bachelor” season finale, will replace Access’s Nancy O’Dell, who had to leave the competition due to a torn meniscus in her knee.

In addition to her cheerleading skills, Melissa has a background in ballet — which could help the late addition make up for lost rehearsal time.

Former “The Girls Next Door” star Holly Madison is rumored to be filling the show’s other spot, left by singer Jewel, who also exited the competition early due to injuries.

ABC had no comment on the news when reached by Access on Sunday, noting that additional casting announcements would be made on Monday’s show.

The eighth season of “Dancing” premieres on Monday at 8 PM.

Naomi, who was one of the final four on The Bachelor season posted a blog about Melissa:

Melissa...Now Dancing With The Stars...YAY!!!

Hey everyone!
Yes it is true, you've heard correctly Melissa is filling in on this new season of Dancing With the Stars! It was a last minute thing...ABC called her up and within 4 hours she was on a plane to LA. She called me before making her decision, somewhat hesistant to do it since her life was finally starting to feel normal again--AWAY from all the cameras..I said "Live with NO regrets...get your butt on that plane, or you WILL regret it one day!!!!"  I know you ALL will be just as excited as I am to watch our much loved Mel and root for her...So TUNE IN!!!
Go Melissa!! Get em' Girl!!  We Love You!
Lots of Love,
Naomi
