Ty Murray Blogs:
This dance is about power’
We just got done with practice where we polished a few things up this afternoon. I feel like it's going pretty well and tomorrow we'll get to do it one more time during dress rehearsal before we have to do it on live TV.
That last dress rehearsal is always a good time for Chelsie and me to treat our routine as if it were the performance, because they run through the whole show as if it was live. But we're at a point now where it's one thing to be able to pull it off in practice, and it's another thing to be able to do that on the stage during the show.
Today Chelsie had me work on a few little things that have been bugging her, and I feel like we got those better. We videotaped the routine with my little flip camera, so tonight I'll watch it a bunch of times and just get all my different little cues tattooed into my mind.
When you get nervous, that's when you start filling your brain with other thoughts, or you can get off-balance, so the more sure you are thinking about your steps, and the movements you're going to make in your steps, the easier it is.
It's funny, because this dance is about power, and watching Chelsie she almost explodes she gets so intense with it. She wants me to feed off of that, but that's what makes for a standout dance, because when she brings it, she really brings it.
She always explains to me that no one knows your exact steps. They just know how good your performance is, so you can even miss a step as long as you can get right back on and never let it show in your performance, your expression or your posture.
That's what this dance is about, and that's what the judges are looking for: the drama, so I need to be focused. That way I can come out and not have it look mechanical. I feel pretty decent about it and so does Chelsie.
