You have done an interesting analysis. I have a few additions for nonstop flights to Frankfurt:

Detroit NW52     1710 0720+1
            UA9197  1810 0755+1
Philadelphia US5601/LH427  1805 0805+1
Miami   LH463    1605 0650+1

None of these is a United or American flight. However, I can think of no law that says that the Amazing Race first leg is solely with UA or AA. That is a custom and tradition that is broken whenever it is convenient, most recently with TACA for AR11.

Thanks apskip.  I suppose that I can widen my somewhat arbitrary 'window' to include a Frankfurt arrival of 7:55 am for your Detroit flight (aka LH 743 by codeshare).

Your 8:05 am from Philadelphia is already on the list.

But I think the 6:50 am arrival from Miami is too early for consideration due to the 10:15 am departure to Zurich.  Had they arrived at 6:50 am then they would have used the 8:40 am (LH3722) or the 9:10 am (LX 1069) flights to Zurich.

TACA?  I think TAR11 used AA and Copa when they left Miami, so it's half consistent with the unwritten law.

I am working my way through the list guys--hopefully will have some info by next week. :waves:

I'd like to make the following really wacky prediction:   :neener:

The race starts in San Francisco on October 31st!

The teams are sent off with these flights:

Five teams on:
UA 88 leaving SFO at 1:03 pm, arriving EWR Newark at 9:33 pm
Swiss LX 19 leaving EWR at 10:50 pm, arriving in Zurich at 11:35 am

Seven teams on:
UA 900 leaving SFO at 1:48 pm and arriving in FRA Frankfurt at 8:45 am
SWU 1071 leaving FRA at 10:15 am and arriving in Zurich at 11:20 am

puddin:
I like it Chateau  :jumpy:

12 teams?? why not!

Neobie:
Hmm... interesting, Chateau!

If the flight into Frankfurt departs the US in the early afternoon and arrives at around 8-9am the next day, it must have departed from the western half of the US. We didn't see the racers on the Portland flight, so the only possibilities (if it's direct from start city to Frankfurt) are Los Angeles, San Francisco and Seattle?

Summer Time is a huge headache... Could anyone help me out transposing the Nov 7 schedules one week back?

--- Quote ---International carriers almost exclusively appear to change their US departure and arrival times by one hour during this period, as you might expect. So a flight that leaves London at say, 430p and arrives LAX at 730p would have arrived at 830p for last week only. US carriers, however, don’t seem to treat it the same way all the time.

Looking at American, for example, most flights do appear to change flight times in the US whether it be an arrival or departure. But the London to Chicago flights all change their London departure times in order to keep connections in the US. To make things even more confusing, the return flights from Chicago actually change their Chicago departure times. Look at JFK, however, and the London flights change both their US departure and arrival times. As you can imagine, arriving into the US an hour later means missed connections and longer waits for the next flight.

Delta deals with this by changing their non-US flight times. So, US connecting times remain intact. But this begs the question . . . how do they get Frankfurt to let them change times for a week? If anyone has more information on this, let me know in the comments section.

Trying to cover all bases with these possible pairings (I think this is all) on top of Chateau's San Francisco start, with the following assumptions (I am clueless about Summer Time, so I've allotted an 1h extra leeway for connections):

1. Zurich belongs in the first leg, and there are two double-segment flights from the start city.
2. Departures from the start city are between 10am and 3pm.
3. Arrival times in Zurich are within 3 hours of each other.

Starting in Los Angeles, connecting through Frankfurt, Paris, Chicago, New York or Newark
Paris is the only European option from Los Angeles I haven't outright eliminated; the transits may not work out, depending on how the Summer Time schedules work. All except Frankfurt involve an airline change.

Starting in Seattle, connecting through Frankfurt, Paris, Amsterdam or Chicago
Paris and Frankfurt itineraries stick to one airline, making things simpler and following the standards of seasons past. The rest involve an airline change. There's a JetBlue flight through Boston, but I don't think they'd take that...
