--- Quote from: apskip on April 17, 2009, 11:21:34 AM ---I have some additional observations. If the HK5 finale were on Top Chef, then any chefs that made it to the final have a chance to win, based on the top Chef philosophy that only performance in the current episode can be used to judge the outcome. I like Gordon Ramsay's philosophy much better. He maneuvers to make sure that the best two chefs are competing in the finale. Either one can win, but the one with a better cumulative performance through the season can get there. Paula and Danny are running neck-and-neck on this, so it's too close to call.

I like his method too, he yells at them to put the pressure on to see how they react and if they can still deal with their station. I am still peeved about the Top Chef result which rewarded someone who was not that good the entire competition.

One of the things that hit me last night was their attitudes when they got to the Borgata. Robert was making jokes about the dancers who were lined to greet them and later Andrea's similar stupid comment about half naked men. If you really wanted the job of head chef, you would focus like a laser, asking for information. I think both Robert and Andrea failed that test. It could be editing, we'll never know but it seemed inappropriate.

Thanks for your excellent recap apskip and also your predictions about the finale.

Thanks for the video puddin!  :hearts:

Tory, I'd be a quivering mass of jello if I got yelled at by someone like Ramsay. I'd be beyond the weeds, I'd be in the jungle.

I felt bad for Robert. I think there are a number of reasons for developing pericarditis, could have been his weight. I believe it's an inflammation around the outside of the heart. I loved his humor. All through the competition I kept thinking he would be so much better off if he lost some weight.

I found an exit interview that I thought was interesting. He says he's lost 55 lbs and is waiting to get a bypass! I'm sure he will be much better off. He also got married, he had to postpone his wedding because of the competition.

Robert Hesse - Hell's KitchenRobert Hesse was one of the most hilarious contestants this season of Hell's Kitchen, with a very sarcastic humor. He was a strong contender, and Christina Machamer's pick to win. He made it to the final five, but when Ramsay sent them all to Atlantic City to check out the Borgata Hotel where the winner's restaurant will be located, he suddenly felt chest pains, and ended up in the hospital with pericarditis. He came back to Hell's Kitchen to announce that he would not be continuing with the competition, and Ramsay told him he should be proud of his work and know that he was a formidable competitor for the prize.

BuddyTV got a chance to talk to Robert about his time on Hell's Kitchen.

Robert cites his family for the reason why he entered the competition, as well as the reason why he left. Everything he does is for his family, and he's no good to them if he's six feet under.

He says that Gordon Ramsay is a cross between Martha Stewart and Attila the Hun.

I noted to him that he has been one of the most entertaining contestants on the show this year, and I asked him what it was has been like to watch himself on TV. He enjoys the attention that he has been getting from people on the street. He sometimes walks down the street and people stick their heads out of manholes and yell, "We love you, Rob!"

Since leaving the show, his heart condition has improved, and he has begun working hard to get his weight under control. Working with a personal trainer, he has lost 55 pounds so far, and is getting ready to undergo gastric bypass surgery. He has also gotten married (he postponed his wedding to appear on the show) and went on a honeymoon to the Caribbean, where he enjoyed a lot more recognition as well.

Things are looking up for Robert. He and fellow Hell's Kitchen contestant Seth are starting a restaurant together, which will open on June 1.

TexasLady, I am glad to hear that Robert will get a bypass and has already lost big-time weight. Losing weight is really difficult as I know. I have also had a double heart bypass myself. If you go in in reasonable condition, it's not difficult EXCEPT for the rehab afterward which is lengthy and monotonous and sometimes challenging.

EDITOR'S NOTE - My assumption was that due to Robert's heart issues it was a heart bypass, but TexasLady said (and I missed) that his is a gastric bypass, which I believe has many of the same recovery issues.
