Julianne Hough Hanging Up Her Dancing Shoes

After four seasons, two mirror-ball trophies and plenty of bragging rights, Julianne Hough has announced that she’s hanging up her Dancing shoes–at least for a while.

“I’m not gonna be back next season,” the Dancing pro told Ryan Seacrest Thursday. “I really, really want to focus on the music and, ya know, be taken seriously a little bit. And I think it’s hard to be on [Dancing] and be singing.”

The news comes two days after Hough, 20, who just released a Christmas album at Target stores, and her season seven partner Cody Linley were eliminated on Tuesday night’s show.

The Hannah Montana star “kinda had an idea that we were gonna go home,” Hough added. “He was just emotional.”

It’s been a roller-coaster of emotions for Hough as well, who underwent appendectomy surgery in October and was nursed back to health by boyfriend of five months, country crooner Chuck Wicks. When asked by Seacrest, “Are you in love,” Hough said, “Yeah, I am” and giggled.

“We met at the Brad Paisley tour in January,” she said. “The whole crew, Brad, everybody was trying to get us together. [But] we were hanging out before that!”

Another sign that things are getting serious? “Chuck and I have a little puppy,” she said of Lexi, the couple’s Cavalier King Charles Spaniel. “I have pictures all over [my phone]. She’s adorable.”

Lance Bass Is Glad Julianne Hough Was Eliminated

Since Julianne Hough got eliminated from Dancing with the Stars this week, Lance Bass is breathing a little easier.

“She was the one I was scared of the most,” he told PEOPLE Wednesday at Paris Las Vegas. “She’s the queen of Dancing with the Stars and I know that she knows how to win this thing. I love her so much, but I’m glad she’s gone and I don’t have to face her.”

Bass’s competition now is Brooke Burke and former NFL star Warren Sapp. Burke, however, poses the biggest threat to Bass, he said.

“She’s definitely the one I’m looking at,” he said. “She’s been in first place every week and the judges seem to absolutely love her. She could pee on the floor and they would give her 10s for it.”

He adds: “Really in the finals it comes down to who dances the best. It doesn’t have to do with personality or anything, it’s just really who dances the best that night. It’s been a rough ride but I can’t believe I made it.”

ABC Television Network

PRESS RELEASE

DANCING WITH THE STARS (11/24 & 25)

THREE CONTENDERS REMAIN... BUT ONLY ONE STAR WILL OUTSHINE THE REST, ON THE FINAL TWO NIGHTS OF ABC'S "DANCING WITH THE STARS"

Miley Cyrus Performs

Alicia Keys Performs

All Ten of the Previous Stars from This Season Return

"Episode 710 & 710A" - After nine weeks of entertaining drama, surprises and dazzling performances, Lance Bass, Brooke Burke and Warren Sapp have broken away from the pack and earned the right for a chance to be crowned champion of "Dancing with the Stars." The three finalists will have their last opportunity to impress the judges and viewers on two nights of final competition, beginning MONDAY, NOVEMBER 24 (8:00-9:32 p.m., ET), which include the crowning of the Ballroom Kids champions, and concluding on the Season Finale, TUESDAY, NOVEMBER 25 (9:00-11:00 p.m., ET). In the final performance show on Monday, the teams will face off against one another in a Samba Smackdown in which they each dance to an extended version of the same song. Each couple will take their turn in a section of the song before stepping aside for the next team to showcase their routine giving judges and viewers a chance to compare the couples alongside each other. In addition, Lance, Brooke and Warren will show us what they've got in the ever popular Freestyle routine - a fan favorite.

In Tuesday's two-hour Finale, all three finalists will perform their third and final dance -- one of their favorite past routines from the season - to be scored by the judges. The judges' scores for Tuesday's dances will be combined with the judges' scores and viewers' votes from Monday's performances to determine the victor of the coveted "Dancing with the Stars" mirror ball trophy. Throughout the two-hour Finale, the previously eliminated couples will return to perform their final dances of the season.

Cloris Leachman returns in a very special "Man on the Street" segment and Jeffrey Ross returns for a hilarious roast of the three finalists. Other Finale highlights include two amazing musical guests: Multi-Grammy Award-winning artist Alicia Keys brings down the house with "I Need You," from her five-time platinum album, "As I Am," which quickly became her fourth consecutive number one album. And Miley Cyrus rocks the "Dancing with the Stars" stage with eight of her own dancers performing her third single, "Fly on the Wall," from her second studio album, "Breakout." Currently Cyrus is in production on her third season of her hit TV series "Hannah Montana," and will be seen this month in Walt Disney Pictures' animated feature "Bolt" with John Travolta.

All the excitement and frenzy will lead up to the moment we've all been waiting for - who among the three finalists will win reign as champions of "Dancing with the Stars" and take home the coveted mirror ball trophy?

Viewers may cast their votes for their favorite couples via phone during and up to thirty minutes after Monday's show. AT&T subscribers may also text message their votes by texting the word "VOTE" and entering the number that corresponds to the team they want to support (standard text message rates apply). Viewers may also vote online at www.abc.com once the performance show begins on the East Coast, until 12:00 p.m., ET the next day.

Lance Bass Cuts ‘Dancing’ Rehearsal Short

With just days before the “Dancing With the Stars” finals, Lance Bass has taken a break in his rehearsal schedule, Access Hollywood has learned.

Bass, who is paired with professional Lacey Schwimmer, went home early to rest and recharge on Saturday, a source close to the ABC show told Access.

“Due to the round-the-clock rehearsal schedule in preparation for the ‘DWTS’ finale, Lance Bass cut short his rehearsal today to go home, conserve his energy and rest,” the source said. “He plans to resume rehearsals tomorrow.”

Though the former *NSYNC star has plenty on his plate, he’s still planning on appearing at the American Music Awards on Sunday, where he’ll present with fellow “DWTS” finalists Brooke Burke and Warren Sapp.

This isn’t the first time Lance has cut his rehearsals for a “DWTS” main event short. Lance hit the red carpet at the premiere of Dolly Parton’s “9 To 5” musical in Los Angeles earlier this year instead of a practice session for the “DWTS” season premiere.

The season’s final episodes air on Monday and Tuesday.

‘Dancing’ mirror ball likely to go to Lance
Warren will go home first, and Lance's charm will beat out Brooke

We have reached the end of another season of “Dancing With The Stars,” and the show is doing all it can to hype the finale, a battle among Brooke Burke (perhaps you know her from her non-award-winning work on “Wild On” or “Rock Star”), former locker-door pinup Lance Bass of N'Sync, and retired NFL defensive tackle Warren Sapp.

What the show will not tell you is that past seasons of “Dancing” have, by and large, played out according to a predictable script, and if that script holds this week, you can expect Lance Bass to boogie away with the prize.

The way the finales progress is a direct result of the scoring system, which combines judges’ scores and audience votes. Generally, when there are two strong dancers in the finale, the judges just happen to give them total scores that are similar if not identical, to the point where ultimate victory goes to the winner of the audience vote.

They do, however, sometimes score one dancer lower than the two front-runners, knocking them out early. This happened to Marie Osmond in Season 5, and it will almost surely happen to Warren Sapp.

Somewhat lumbering in his NFL-appropriate, but less ballroom-friendly frame, Warren is not the most obviously graceful person in the group. Some football players, particularly Emmitt Smith and Jason Taylor, have been legitimately talented dancers, but Sapp is not. He’s a showboater and a charmer, and he certainly has a great smile. But light on his feet he is not, and the judges will likely ding him hard enough that he won’t have a chance without an overwhelming audience response — which he won’t get. That will leave Lance and Brooke.

Brooke Burke has been the front-runner all season. She’s got the long legs and elegance of a dancer, and particularly because most of the other women (other than Misty May-Treanor, who went out early with an injury in this heavily bandaged season) were not strong dancers, she stood out. Brooke isn’t, however, very entertaining. There is something bloodless about her performances; studied and skilled, but not the kind of dancing that makes you want to watch it again.

Because the entertainment factor is her weakness, it’s especially unfortunate that during last week’s jive, Brooke suffered her first genuine catastrophic dancing failure of the season. You almost never see it on this show, especially late in the season: she simply lost track of what she was doing at certain moments, and she was visibly watching her partner, Derek Hough, to get back on track.

Not only that, but as judge Bruno Tonioli pointed out, the entire routine looked sloppy — bad leg position, bad footwork, and a general lack of grace. That’s okay for Cloris Leachman during a group hip-hop routine, but not for a contestant who’s supposed to be getting by on her superior skills.

This brings us to Lance Bass. Barring a sprained ankle, Lance will take home the trophy. He has the personality of a champion — he’s a direct descendant of Drew Lachey and Apolo Anton Ohno, in particular: guys who started off good, worked hard to get better, and always seemed endearingly plucky in spite of the fact that they were naturals.

Audiences, in the end, are not dance experts. They cannot necessarily identify the right way to hold your foot during a foxtrot, and most of them don’t have any idea how good your tango hold is. No, when it comes to the dance itself, audiences reward two things: agility and novelty. They may not be able to tell the difference between perfect and imperfect waltzes, but they can tell whether a quickstep or a jive was crisp and lively.

Joey Fatone’s strong showing in Season 4 was largely the result of his ability, in spite of his bulky-looking body, to look like he was made entirely of springs as he bounced through a couple of different jives. Season 5 champ Helio Castroneves is best remembered for a loud, exuberant quickstep in which he wore a yellow suit that was gaudy even for a dance costume. We like fast, chandelier-rattling dances, not because we’re uncultured, but because we understand them better.

Again, this plays directly into Lance’s hands. His mambo and jitterbug last week demonstrated that he can move with lightness and speed. At the same time, Brooke completely biffed that jive, the best chance she had to get out from under being the “less fun” contestant.

Audiences will also reward novelty and humor. Think of Drew Lachey’s “Thriller” paso doble, Joey Fatone’s “Star Wars” tango, and the treatment of people like Jerry Springer and George Hamilton. In fact, that Helio “yellow quickstep” is almost as famous for the giant kiss he laid on partner Julianne Hough when it was over — which she obviously was genuinely not expecting, and which left her hilariously goggle-eyed and speechless — as it is for the dance itself.

Simply put, if you look like you have a sense of humor, you will outlast anyone who doesn’t, until you get to the people who can simply dance circles around you. Again, this is a problem for Brooke, who can seem so serious about training and perfection that she doesn’t seem to be having a good time. Lance, on the other hand, lost a shoe in his jitterbug and kept moving, and he benefits from his young, super-high-energy, double-caffeinated partner, “So You Think You Can Dance” veteran Lacey Schwimmer.

Brooke is a good dancer. Not as good as she looked at the beginning, given the way others have caught up. But she’s a good dancer. Unfortunately for her, Lance has also become a good dancer, and he’s a fast dancer and a funny dancer, and the odds are that those two factors are going to put him over the top.

Julianne Hough Looking Forward to Life After Dancing

After becoming a household name on Dancing with the Stars, Julianne Hough is concentrating on the next stage of her career.

“I’m actually going to take next season off and really focus on my music,” Hough told PEOPLE backstage at the 36th annual American Music Awards in L.A. Sunday. “Get ready for the next record, start writing, going on tour, [and] promoting this record.”

In fact, after Thanksgiving, Hough, 20, plans to go to Nashville to record and settle into her new place. “I’m so excited to go back,” said Hough, who just bought a condo down South.

Hough, whose self-titled debut CD debuted at No. 1 on Billboard’s Country Album chart, announced last week she’s hanging up for Dancing shoes next season.

Hough, 20, first appeared on DWTS in March 2007, quickly became on the show’s most popular dancers and has reigned twice as Dancing queen, with partners Apolo Anton Ohno and Helio Castroneves.

But, Hough—who fell sick this season and had her appendix removed in October—says she’s not looking back. “I’m sad to say that I don’t really, but I’m sure I probably will when the show comes around,” said Hough of missing the ballroom.”

But she hopes fans who once rooted her and partner Cody Linley will now cast their votes for her brother Derek and his partner Brooke Burke on tonight’s final.

Says Hough of the mirror-ball trophy: “Keep it in the family!”

DWTS’ Warren Sapp: Always Ready for Game Day

Between making it all the way to finals of Dancing with the Stars and handling football analyst duties, former Tampa Bay Buccaneers defensive tackle Warren Sapp hasn’t fumbled yet.

After performing on Mondays and returning to the ballroom for the results show Tuesdays, Sapp gets back to his day jobs–analyzing football on Showtime’s Inside the NFL (which airs Wednesdays) and the NFL Network’s Thursday Night Football, plus Sunday’s NFL GameDay Morning.

“If I haven’t fallen over right now,” Sapp tells PEOPLE, “I don’t think I will!”

On the set of NFL GameDay Morning in Culver City, Calif., Sapp is dressed in a tailored brown suit and looking remarkably alert for a guy who got up at 4:30 in the morning after a week filled with flights and dancing practice.

It’s because even though the 35-year-old analyst loves to dance, he really loves to talk gridiron. “Football is my life,” he says. “Football is my love and passion forever. Dancing is something that’s given me an appetite for something that I didn’t know anything about.”

Not surprising, Sapp’s new Dancing fan base would be equally entertained should they catch him on any given Sunday. “He is so unique,” says NFL GameDay Morning executive producer Eric Weinberger. “He just has the ability to keep you on the edge of your seat with what he’s going to say, and his facial expressions are great.”

But one person who hasn’t quite picked up on the football talk is Sapp’s DWTS partner, Kym Johnson. By his own admission, Sapp has taught her “nothing,” he says, “and I don’t want to start because they play Australian Rules over there. Now that’s real football!”

DWTS' Brooke Burke: If I Lose, I Want Lance Bass to "Take It Home"

Dancing With the Stars' Brooke Burke is determined to win Tuesday's finale.

"I gotta bring that trophy home! I gotta represent - last girl standing!" she said on L.A.'s MY FM 104.3 FM on Monday. "Anything can happen on a show like this. We've seen it in the past."

In the off chance that she doesn't win, she says she wants Lance Bass to score the discoball trophy.

He and his partner Lacey Schwimmer "have been the underdogs," Burke says. "Lance and I are good friends -- he's a great guy. And I guess if it can't be me, I'd want Lance to take it home."

She adds that she's relieved the season is winding down.

"You push your body to the limit, and you just start tearing down," she says. "We are all fried!

"As much as it's bittersweet, we are going to breath the deepest breath ever," she says.

How is she prepping for the tonight?

"I'm gonna get into a nice hot bath...relax my body, stretch out, and then it's really mental," she said.

Adds Burke (who plans to dance a freestyle and samba routine tonight with partner Derek Hough): "It's just about really enjoying it and relaxing and ringing it out. Cause we only have two dances left!"

Rooting for Burke in the audience tonight? Daughters Heaven, 22 months, Neriah, 8, Sierra, 6, and son Shaya, 8 months, and fiance David Charvet.

"My kids love it!" Burke says of the show. "My older girls are all into dance now, and my little one is like, ''Mama, dance!'"

But, Burke says, "I'm not going to miss the endless hours of rehearsing. My kids have missed a lot of mommy time, and that's been the hardest part for me."

EXCLUSIVE: DWTS' Lance Bass Takes Us Inside Tonight's Season Finale

Lance Bass is keeping an exclusive diary only on Usmagazine.com about his experience competing on Dancing With the Stars. Here are his thoughts on tonight's season finale.

WELCOME TO THE FINALE!
This journey has definitely been a difficult one for me – I'm physically, mentally and emotionally worn out – but to know that all my hard work paid off makes me so happy! Being sent through to the finals first last week was such an honor and it just tells me that the judges really believe in me. It was the first time I thought to myself ‘wow, we could win this! Maybe it isn’t just Brooke [Burke]’s competition.’ I don't really have any fears going into tonight.

FINAL THREE FRIENDSHIPS
Brooke and I have become best friends through this. From day one, we’ve been such a support system for each other and we're excited to go into the finale together. Warren’s so much fun and so hilarious. I think they both might do some of the tour dates with me, because I've been telling them how much of a bonding experience it is.

TAKIN' IT WAY BACK
I’m sooo excited to perform our freestyle hip-hop routine tonight to Run DMC's "Tricky"! We choreographed it Wednesday night and it’s really fun! I went back and watched Julianne [Hough] and Apollo [Anton Ohno]’s hip-hop freestyle from the season four finale. Our routine totally reminds me of theirs, which is great, because they got all 10s. If Len gave them a 10, it’s possible for me to get one, too. And I’ve added a lot of NSYNC choreography, including a really cool stomp routine we did to open our Pop Odyssey tour in 2001.

JITTERBUG 2.0
On Wednesday, we get to dance to a past performance of our choosing. The jive, jitterbug, tango and the mambo are my favorites, but we're going to do our jitterbug again. I’ve been polling the fans to see who likes what, and most people wanted me to do the jitterbug again -- they thought it was hilarious that my shoe fell off. They’re like ‘if your shoe stays on,’ Len [Goodman]’s [original score of] 9 will turn into a 10.' I think that dance is the best way to go to get that good score we’ve been striving for.

TROPHY TALK
If I win the disco ball trophy tomorrow night, I’m going to put it on my mantle. I’ve already got a place picked out. And I've always said that if I won, I’m going to cut it in half and give half of it to [my best friend and band mate] Joey [Fatone], because I think he deserved to win three seasons ago.

Dancing Finalists Ready To Rumba at Finale

The seventh season of Dancing With the Stars has been marked by ambulance rides, Hurricane Cloris and the news that one of the pros won’t be returning. But with the finale looming, the three stars left all can agree on one thing — it’s anybody’s disco ball.

“It’s one of those rare instances on this show where it’s a finale where no one knows what’s going to happen,” Brooke Burke tells PEOPLE. “We all bring something different to the competition and I always thought that Warren [Sapp] would make it to the end because he’s such a crowd-pleaser and he has that infectious smile, but Lance really has surprised everyone in the past few weeks.”

“It’s crazy,” Lance Bass says, echoing Burke’s assessment. “Brooke’s been the one to beat the entire season — the judges absolutely love her — and Warren is so much fun to watch, but I really think that it’s anyone’s game and what it’s going to come down to is the people voting.”

The three couples each have three chances to impress the judges and the voters on Monday’s finale, which will feature a group “Samba Smackdown,” a Freestyle dance and a surprise “repeat” dance. The heavy load of choreography left each of the celebrities cramming, but confident.

“This whole entire season I didn’t think that I had a chance in hell,” Bass admits. “But I feel like I have a really good chance now. I’m here to win this thing and my confidence could not be higher going into the finals.”

Sapp is equally sure of his chances. “Nothing worries me in this competition,” the former NFL star says, “because in my old job, I have two 300-pounders trying to smash my head in. No one expected me to be where I’m at, so I’ve already won!”

“We put in a lot of extra hours over the weekend,” Burke says of her work with partner Derek Hough. “Our freestyle is really ambitious, a bit dangerous and naturally I’m nervous. But I don’t feel the same pressure that I felt all season long. At this point I feel like we’ve already made it.”

It's that time! Tonight's finals were judged by Carrie, Bruno and Len with additional judging by the public based on voting within 30 minutes of the end of the show(if I am lucky I will just get my vote in).

Brooke and Derek reviewed their two favorite dances of the season, quickstep and paso doble. Lance and L:acey did the same for tango and mambo. Warren and Kym reviewd their Viennese Waltz and paso doble.

The first competition tonight was a Samba Smackdown. Each of the teams dance sequentially to the same music with a hokey group finish. Len's comments were that Lance needed a little more finesse and Warren needed better footwork. Bruno called Brooke the sexiest dancer. Carrie Ann called Warrent the most improved. The scores were

For Brooke/Derek - Len 9 Bruno 10 Carrie Ann 9 total 28
For Lance/Lacey  -  Len 9 Bruno  8  Carrie Ann 9 total 26
For Warren/Kym -   Len 7 Bruno  9  Carrie Ann 9 total 25

The second competition was freestyle where anything goes, particularly lifts. Brooke did a smooth but energetic routine. Lance did a hip hop with other styles including cha cha cha thrown in briefly. Warren did a routine emphasizing lifts. Len told Brooke that hers made him hot under the collar and it was the best freestyle he had  ever seen on DWTS. Bruno told her that her lifts were spectacular and he thought her routine was straight from the Kama Sutra.  Len stated that Lance's hip hop suffered from having other styles in it. Carrie Ann told Warren that his routine was her favorite but it had a big mistake(she was cut off by Tom before she could say what it was). The live audience was very enthuisiastic about Warren's routine, which could be summarized by "gone wild with lifts".

The scores were:
For Brooke/Derek -   Len 10 Bruno 10 Carrie Ann 10 total a perfect 30
For Lance/Lacey   -   Len  9  Bruno   9 Carrie Ann 9   total 27
For Warren/Kym   -   Len 10 Bruno   9 Carrie Ann 9   total 28

The combined total are Brooke 58 Lance 53 Warren 53

Unless the public was blind, Brooke should win the trophy and title tomorrow night.

Tom Bergeron had the last word, which was "this(an earring) is the whole costume for Edyta." I bet he saved that one through the Whole season.

Monday’s Dancing: What You Didn’t See

Clearing Off the Mantle: His Tampa Bay Buccaneers won the Super Bowl in 2003, but make no mistake about it – Warren Sapp would LOVE to add the mirror ball trophy to his sports awards collection. “I would put it on my mantle,” Sapp says. “If I got this trophy I would put it right above the fireplace underneath this oil painting I have of myself and Brett Favre. Definitely.” Sapp admits he has one regret about the Dancing season: “I didn’t get to spend enough time with Kym,” said Sapp. “I had other obligations and jobs that took me away at times and made it a little bit tough at times.”

‘N It to Win It: His pal Joey Fatone was season four runner-up, but Lance Bass says he’s in it to win it. “I was so nervous but we went out there and we killed it and I couldn’t be more proud,” Bass told PEOPLE after the show. Bass says he “talked to Joey all week this week. He unfortunately couldn’t be here tonight because he’s stuck in New York, but he said to just use my personality and get the people excited and have fun and that’s what we tried to do.” With the hard part of doing two dances over, Bass said he and his partner Lacey Schwimmer were “going out to Rocco’s (DiSpirito) pizza party tonight and have some good food and then we have to hit the sack because it’s a long day tomorrow.”

Star Search: The audience was loaded with celebrity fans of the show including actresses Florence Henderson, Renee Russo and Jamie-Lynn Sigler. All three women sat near each other in the front row across from the judges’ table and all were in awe of the evening’s performances. “It was fantastic,” Henderson gushed. “They are each so different and I thought they all brought something special to the dance floor. Brooke and Derek are always fantastic and Lance and Lacey were fantastic. And Warren? He continually surprises me,” the erstwhile Brady mom observed. “He is so much fun I want to dance with him.” Does she want to be on the show someday? “I would love to,” Henderson said. “I think I could hang in there for a while.” Her first time at the ballroom, Russo was amazed at what she saw. “I have to tell you I love Warren so much! It’s hard because they are all really good. Brooke is amazing, too. I had a blast!” Sigler, a pal of Bass’s, says she’s “so proud of him. I was here the first week and he’s come so far from that first night. I’m thrilled for him.”

I Did It My Way: For three seasons in a row, Derek Hough watched his sister Julianne capture two mirror-ball trophies, followed by his best friend Mark Ballas’s win in season six. Now that Derek has made the finals, was it everything he hoped it would be? “I tend to second guess myself and I thought getting into this finale, would I be able to top my sister’s performances? Mark and Kristi (Yamaguchi, season six champ) were so amazing. I started to think I don’t know if I can top that.” But Hough and partner Brooke Burke, front-runners all season long, did indeed outdo themselves. Their freestyle routine to “You’re the One That I Want,” featured more lifts than any other dancer has attempted in Dancing’s seven-season history, brought the roof down. It also took the wind out of both Hough and Burke. “We’d never done the entire dance all the way through from start to finish,” Hough confessed. “It was too hard all week – the lifts, my legs, his back,” Burke chimed in. “We didn’t do the judges’ table in rehearsals and all of the lifts. A lot of those things we envisioned and we just had faith in each other to do it… We just went for it. I can’t wait to get home tonight and see it on TV.”

Unforgettable?: Was it the best finale ever? “I can’t imagine there will ever be a better finale than we’ve seen tonight. I thought it was fantastic,” judge Len Goodman said after the show. “Warren, judging by the studio audience, is really popular and Lance seems to have the young people’s votes. As much as Brooke is up there with her scores, I think anything can happen.” Bruno Tonioli agreed. “[Warren] really is Mr. Irresistible. But Brooke is the best dancer. Lance is the one that has grown the most as a performer. He’s really come leaps and bounds. But Brooke and Derek push it to another level. …Their freestyle was the best freestyle since Cheryl (Burke) and Drew (Lachey) did “Save a Horse, Ride a Cowboy” (in season two).”

More from Inside the Ballroom:

• Miley Cyrus and Alicia Keys rocked the ballroom crowd during their respective pre-taped musical performances, which will air Tuesday on the two-hour results show. Cyrus rocked the crowd, including mom Tish who was on her feet in the first row clapping to the beat, with her new song, “Fly on the Wall.” Keys banged the ivories and belted out her song “I Need You,” moving and grooving with her four dancers so much that it prompted all three judges to whip out their paddles – 10s all around!

• Most of the season seven Dancing cast was in the audience including Jeffrey Ross, Rocco DiSpirito and Maurice Greene. After the show, Hough’s girlfriend and season six partner, actress Shannon Elizabeth, followed him around on the dance floor snapping pictures with her digital camera. Sapp’s female cheering section – his mom, his grandmother and his daughter – smiled and watched on as he made his way through press interviews following the show.

DWTS Watch: Who Will Win?

In what is likely the most riveting final performance night in the brief history of Dancing With the Stars, all three of the remaining couples pulled out all the stops on Monday night.

None of the couples — Warren Sapp and Kym Johnson, Brooke Burke and Derek Hough, Lance Bass and Lacey Schwimmer — made any major mistakes on Monday and they all provided non-stop entertainment in performing a freestyle routine and a group samba. So it should come as no surprise that everyone was smiling backstage when OK! caught up with them after the show.

Frontrunners Brooke and Derek solidified their hold on the top spot by earning a 28 for their samba and a perfect 30 for their freestyle, a joyful tribute to the classic musical Grease.

Judges Len Goodman and Bruno Tonioli both said it was the best freestyle they had ever seen on DWTS, now in its seventh season. And their combined score of 58 out of 60 looks hard to beat in Tuesday night’s finale.

Backstage afterwards, Brooke told OK! Grease is the word! “It’s one of my favorite movies and my kids’ favorite movies.” As for who deserves the credit for getting into the final round, she put it squarely in partner Derek's lap.

“Everything we’ve done great has really been from him teaching me and him getting me to where I need to be," she explained. "I feel we’ve done everything we needed to do this season no matter what happens tomorrow.”

Although she’s had a fabulous time on the show, mother-of-four Brooke said she’s looking forward to the end of the punishing rehearsal schedule: “I miss my kids so desperately.” After tomorrow night’s final results she plans to, “grab my babies!”

Lance and his partner Lacey got a score of 26 for their samba and very solid 27 for their hip-hop freestyle routine, for a total of 53. The former boy-bander likened the night to the final exams in school. “You show the judges what you’ve learned and hope that they like it," he explained. "They loved it tonight. I think everyone did such an amazing job.”

Although his hip-hop routine scored lower than Brooke’s more traditional freestyle, Lance said they couldn’t have picked another style of dance. “It’s what our fans have been asking for since day one," he said. "We finally got to do it and I hope everyone enjoyed it because we sure did. Even Len loved it!”

Still, when pressed by OK! about the judging on the freestyle, for which he received the lowest score of the finalists, Lance admitted, “I was hoping for higher scores. That’s just the theme of the whole season for them and us. I would not expect anything less — one point lower than everyone else.”

The surprising dance journey of gridiron great Warren continued, as he and Kym earned 25 points for their samba and 28 for their freestyle, pushing them into a tie with Lance and Lacey with a cumulative 53.

The retired linebacker's move of catching Kym with his arms extended in front of him made the crowd gasp, and afterwards, he told OK! the amazing maneuver is called “the waterfall.” Kym admitted, “It’s scary for me because for a minute I’m completely airborne.” Competitive Warren said, “That’s my favorite move! I wish they had let us lift from the beginning because I would have broke down some of these little fellas early.”

As for earning a score of ten from Len, the future Hall-of-Famer exclaimed, “that’s what I came for. I can go home now.” He added that judge Carrie Ann Inaba also “was giving us a lot of love tonight.” Kym said. “She said Warren was the most improved and she said our dance was her favorite.”

After the show, Len told OK! it was DWTS’ most incredible night: “I can’t imagine there’s ever been a final like we saw tonight that would ever be better. I loved the samba they all joined in on and the freestyles were so different.”

An interesting article:

Backstage: What You'll See on the Finale

Here's a sneak preview of the Tuesday night festivities for the season finale of Dancing with the Stars: The three remaining couples will each dance one more dance — their favorite of the season — and will be given one more set of scores from the judges. Those marks will be added to the totals from Monday night and the overall high score will determine who gets to cart off the mirrorball trophy.

According to judge Bruno Tonioli, look for Brooke and Derek to repeat their Viennese waltz. Warren and Kym will reprise their big crowd-pleaser, the hustle. And Lance and Lacey will do an encore of their high-scoring jitterbug. "I think they all did incredibly well tonight," says Tonioli. "Lance was good. Warren is irresistible. But after Brooke's turn [during the freestyle], it's like, 'Wow. Top that.'"

But there should also be extra fireworks in the form of octogenarian Cloris Leachman, who returns to the ballroom — along with the rest of the original 13 couples — to take one last spin around the floor. "We're doing the tango on Tuesday night," says her pro partner, Corky Ballas. Ballas reports that Leachman is feeling much better after coming down with a bad upper respiratory infection. "She's lost 11 pounds but she's doing great now," says Ballas. "We practiced today and she's dancing the best she ever has because she's had time to let it sink in."

Ballas says that the jaw-dropping spin he did with Leachman during their last dance, the one where he grabbed her arm and leg and sent her flying in a circle, was done "out of desperation not to get eliminated," he says. "But it didn't work." Ballas says the high-risk move, called a Flying Angel, had not been rehearsed. "It wasn't planned," he says. "I just threw it in at the last second because our last routine was so awful. She didn't remember the steps. She says she doesn't get nervous, but she does."

Leachman had threatened never to leave the ballroom even after she was voted off. "Bonnie Hunt told me that Cloris had told her that the producers said she couldn't come back," says host Tom Bergeron. "So I checked with the producers and they didn't say that. They said, 'We didn't tell her she couldn't come back. We told her she couldn't rush the stage.'"

Bergeron, by the way, is trying to get another golden oldie, Bob Barker, 84, to dance next season. "I wrote a blurb in his book, and I said, 'You should show these young chicks like Cloris how the older guys do it,'" says Bergeron. But Barker wrote back, unmoved. "He said, 'I'm a lousy dancer.'"

Monday Night (8:00-11:00 p.m.)
ABC's Monday lineup saw week-to-week increases of nearly 1.0 million viewers (15.2 million vs. 14.3 million) and 9% in Adults 18-49 (3.6/9 vs. 3.3/8), producing the Net's strongest numbers on the night in both viewers and young adults in 7 weeks - since 10/6/08.  ABC built on the previous week's audience for the 3rd consecutive week and qualified as the night's most-watched network for the 9th time in the last 10 weeks.

"Dancing with the Stars" (8:00-9:32 p.m.)
The Monday season finale of ABC's "Dancing with the Stars" was the most-watched program of the night, making the dance competition the night's No. 1 program in all 10 of its airings this season.  With Night 1 of the two-night season finale event, ABC's "Dancing with the Stars" won its time period and posted best-since-premiere numbers in both Total Viewers (21.1 million) and Adults 18-49 (4.7/12).  In addition to being the night's most-watched telecast, "DWTS" ranked as Monday's No. 1 program across each of the key women demos (W18-34 - 4.4/12, W18-49 - 6.4/16 and W25-54 - 8.3/18) and Teens 12-17 (2.6/8).

* "Dancing with the Stars" was up from its most recent Monday finale by 1.9 million and by 7% in Adults 18-49 (19.2 million & 4.4/13 in Adults 18-49 on 5/19/08).

"Samantha Who?" (9:32-10:02 p.m.)
ABC's "Samantha Who?" logged its largest audience (10.7 million) and equaled its best Adults 18-49 rating (2.9/7) since its season premiere (10/13/08).  "Samantha Who?" outperformed its comedy competition in the time slot, CBS' "Worst Week," in both Total Viewers (10.7 million vs. 10.2 million) and Adults 18-34 (2.1/6 vs. 2.0/6), while beating the CBS sitcom across each of the key women demos (W18-34/W18-49/W25-54) for the 7th straight head-to-head airing.

* "Samantha Who?" won its time period among Women 18-49 (4.3/10) and Women 25-54 (5.3/11) for the 6th time in its 7 telecasts this season.

"Boston Legal" (10:02-11:00 p.m.)
"Boston Legal" topped its NBC drama competition in the hour, "My Own Worst Enemy," in both Total Viewers (8.1 million vs. 3.8 million) and Adults 18-49 (2.1/6 vs. 1.7/4).

A note about increasing DVR penetration and year-to-year rating comparisons: Year-to-year rating comparisons based on the Live + Same Day data stream are distorted by the level of DVR penetration in the Nielsen sample, which has jumped up to 28% currently, from 21% at the same point in 2007.
More viewers are watching shows on their own timetables, which may not be reflected in the overnight next day numbers. The only truly valid year-to-year comparison would be one based on the Live + 7 Day metric, once those stats are released by Nielsen.

The results are in and the coveted Disco Ball trophy was awarded. Each of the eliminated contestants got to showcase a dance of their choice and Jeffery Ross roasted the 3 finalists. His best line was when he told Lance that a baby of his would could out of the womb and out of the closet simultaneously. Tom Bergeron requested that the home audience, who cannot vote tonight about DWTS , go and vote for DWTS for the People's Choice awards. Tom was being almost as subtle as Kim Kardashian who responded to Tom's invitation to say something about the finalists with " Watch Keeping Up with the Kardashians" in March. In both cases really classy (NOT).

The 3 finalists had their final competitive dance. Warren and Kym did the Hustle, a good choice for him. His scores were three 9s for 27 tonight and 80 total combining in last night. That counted 50% and the audience vote  the other 50%.

Lance and Lacey did the jitterbug, a high energy routine well suited to him. Their scores were 9 from Carrie Ann and Len and 10 from  Bruno for 28 tonight and 81 total.

Brooke and Derek did a stylish Viennese Waltz, ending with a song about Mothers and their children by going to her 2 daughters in the front row (supervised by her finacee) and giving them each a kiss. That was really classy! Her scores were three perfect 10s for a perfect 30 tonight and 88 total (8% better than Lance and 9% better than Warren).

The results were announced to eliminate the #3 rated team, which turned out to be Lance and Lacey. Apparently Warren has a better following than Lance since their judges scores last night were indentical. Then it was time and Brooke and Derek got the well-deserved win and Warren and Kym second place. It was prefaced by contrasts by Tom and Samantha about dancing ability vs. audience entertainment. The voters chose dancing ability, which in my opinion they should.

It was a fine season even though Brooke won 10 of the 11 episodes. It was close enough, particulary with an improved Lance challenging her at the end.

Jimmy Kimmel with DWTS WINNERS Brooke & Derek
