An interesting article:

Sick of Cloris' shtick

'Dancing' staffers joke it must be rival TV network execs voting for Leachman 'to try to wreck the show'

While there's been lots of buzz about Cloris Leachman generated by Sun-Times colleague Miriam DiNunzio's ''Dancing With the Stars'' posts on the TV blog on our Web site, I can tell you first-hand there's even more controversy behind-the-scenes on the Hollywood set of the hit ABC show.

It's not merely that everyone there is astonished the 82-year-old Chicago native has survived in the competition this long -- it's her over-the-top brassiness and in-your-face humor that has everyone upset.

''We thought it would be fun to have Cloris on ... and expected her to maybe make it through one or two weeks. But now it's gone from people being amused -- similar to the way it was with Jerry Springer -- to being downright concerned,'' said a staffer who has been with ''Dancing With the Stars'' since the beginning.

This source said "Dancing" competitor Susan Lucci is "fit to be tied. She is working so hard and is outraged that others have been eliminated who are far better than Cloris. It's all about her obnoxious schtick. ... There are deep concerns that people are going to tune out, thinking this has become a big joke and not the serious though entertaining dance competition it's supposed to be.

''Everyone assumed it would be Cloris and not Toni Braxton who would be eliminated [Tuesday],'' added the source. ''There was even some gallows humor going around today. ... People joked it must be a whole lot of CBS, NBC and Fox executives getting everyone they know to vote for Cloris -- to try and wreck the show,'' the staffer said with a rueful laugh.

•    Along with all of the judges, show co-host Samantha Harris is said to be ''sick and tired'' of Cloris and ''her attempts to dominate everything,'' said my source. It even was evident when Harris snapped at Leachman to get away from the kids who had just danced in a junior competition on the show Tuesday night. ''After we were off the air, Samantha, Susan and a lot of others were saying they had had it with Cloris.''

•    That wasn't the only drama Tuesday. After the broadcast, veteran professional dancer Julianne Hough was rushed to the hospital complaining of stomach pains. Fortunately, she was released and is on the mend.

•    It's not because he's sick of Leachman, but judge Len Goodman needed a break, so Chicago native and ''Lord of the Dance'' star Michael Flatley will fill in for him next week. Goodman is scheduled back the following week.

More about Cloris:

Producers reportedly “concerned” Cloris Leachman has made Dancing “a big joke”

Cloris Leachman, who was the single best thing about Dancing with the Stars 7, has allegedly ticked off the show’s producers, co-host, and competitors for stealing the show.

The Chicago Sun-Times Bill Zwecker quotes an anonymous source—“a staffer who has been with ‘Dancing With the Stars’ since the beginning”—who says that “‘We thought it would be fun to have Cloris on … and expected her to maybe make it through one or two weeks. But now it’s gone from people being amused — similar to the way it was with Jerry Springer — to being downright concerned.”

Samantha Harris is reportedly unhappy; she is allegedly “sick and tired” of Cloris’ “attempts to dominate everything. After we were off the air, Samantha, Susan and a lot of others were saying they had had it with Cloris,” the source told Zwecker. Staff members even “joked it must be a whole lot of CBS, NBC and Fox executives getting everyone they know to vote for Cloris — to try and wreck the show.”

Anonymous sources should rarely be taken seriously, but that’s especially true when they say bull**** like this: “It’s all about her obnoxious schtick. … There are deep concerns that people are going to tune out, thinking this has become a big joke and not the serious though entertaining dance competition it’s supposed to be.”

Serious dance competition? Please. While it’s true that Cloris’ shtick has become a bit, she still injects life into a show that desperately needs that. There’s some great dancing, sure, but beyond that, what else is there that’s new and entertaining? Cody Linley’s desperate mugging for the camera? Internet research every week to try to figure out the difference between Brooke Burke and Brooke Burns? The faux drama presented every single week in every single rehearsal package?

Before reading this piece, I was ready to say that it’s time for Cloris to go out while she’s still on top, but if she really is pissing everyone off, that’s excellent incentive to keep her around forever and ever.

I don't think Cloris Leavhman's longevity on DWTS7 is due to her obnoxious and outrageous behavior and it certainly is not because of her dancing skills. It is because millions of senior citizens are closing ranks behind someone whose dancing does not warrant much. The "grey panthers" desire to support one of their own is a huge factor.

A Cloris Leachman Controversy Brewing on 'DWTS'?

Are there a few ruffled feathers backstage on "Dancing with the Stars"? According to the Chicago Sun-Times, a source says that Cloris Leachman's continuing tenure is beginning to rankle the cast and competitors, who believe that she should be cut from the show due to her over-the-top antics. But one "DWTS" co-host -- who is cited as being ''sick and tired'' of Cloris in the article -- tells ET the report is far from the truth.

"I adore Cloris Leachman and have had so much fun working with her this season," says Samantha Harris. "She even peeks into my dressing room each night, on the way to the set, to say hi. She's wonderfully entertaining and I love how she keeps us all on our toes! This story could not be further from the truth."

An interesting article:

Tuesday’s Dancing: What You Didn’t See

Defending the New Kid: Lance Bass may have survived a slip, but the former boy bander wasn’t about to take the judges’ harsh criticism of his partner, newcomer Lacey Schwimmer, laying down. “It was almost a pre-meditated attack, the way that the three of them seemed to know exactly what to say before we even danced,” Bass said of his partner’s verbal paddling. Bass went on to question the judges’ notion that Lacey, the reigning West Coast swing champion, should have eased up on the complexity of the dance so that he could shine. “Why would you dumb yourself down during any kind of performance?” Bass asked in disbelief. “If you’re a pro or if you’re a celebrity, you’re always going to perform your best, perform your heart out, and that’s what we did.”

Though she had her ballroom game face on, Schwimmer admitted the judges’ criticism cut deep. “It was a little hurtful, and to be honest, it kind of got my spirits down,” she said. “I created a dance that I felt was at his level. And to be fair, I know what West Coast swing is and the judges don’t have training in it.” And most of the pros agreed the judges had it out for the new girl.
“Lacey is an amazing dancer,” pro Kym Johnson said, “Maybe for one judge to have said something, I could understand, but for all of them to do that? It made me feel really bad for her, because I think they were too hard on her.” “The judges smashed her pretty hard,” agreed DWTS champ Cheryl Burke, “To have three of the judges pile on you like that? I thought it was a little too much.”

“Un-Break”-able Heart: Toni Braxton never had the chance to perform her breakthrough dance, but the singer will be remembered in the ballroom for her flashes of brilliance. “She was never perfect,” judge Bruno Tonioli said, before adding, “Toni had moments of greatness. She never managed to sustain it all the way through the dance, but I know that she has it, and it’s a shame that we won’t be able to see it this season.”

While Braxton seemd to take her ouster hard, finding solace in the arms of her family, other stars and dancers were quick to express their collective surprise after they watched the singer’s last ballroom dance. “I’m shocked,” Warren Sapp admitted. “I don’t ever want to be down there. You look down there and you see Toni dancing, and you wonder, Who the hell is going home next?’” Sapp’s partner, pro Kym Johnson added, “This show is so unpredictable. You never know
what can happen, but Toni had come so far and done so much, inspired people by coming on this show, it’s sad to see her go.”

“Hustled” by the Judges’ Scores?: Despite bringing the crowd to their feet, Sapp and Johnson were only able to garner a 25 out of 30 for their energetic hustle. The former football star blamed the curse of dancing early for his middling score. “We were the ones that got the house rocking,” he said of Monday night, adding, “I think we were hurt by the fact that we woke [the judges] up! Everyone was sitting there like they were waiting on something and then, ‘Boom’, came Kym and Warren.” While the judges’ wake-up call didn’t help the pair’s scores, it may have give their competitors an unexpected boost. “When I woke them up,” Sapp said of the paddle-wielding trio, “they got caught up in the momentum of the night into giving out nines and such.” But being first isn’t always a bad thing, as Sapp was definitely counting his blessings for being the first to be saved on Tuesday’s Results Show. “This was definitely the best Tuesday that I’ve had!” said Sapp.

Ballroom Rehab–STAT: Following Tuesday’s show, two-time Olympic gold medalist Maurice Greene said of this week’s competition, “Do you understand what I went through this week? Mentally, and physically, I’ve been through a lot! My energy level was so down coming into tonight and then having to go through this stuff, it’s almost traumatizing!” Greene’s proposal: a program to help contestants deal with the stress of the competition. “This is such tough stuff,” he said, “They may have to come up with a cure for the post-traumatic stress syndrome of DWTS!”

Hip-Hop Replacement?: Next week’s hip-hop ensemble dance may prove to be Cloris Leachman’s moment to continue to shock and awe DWTS fans–just don’t ask her how. “I’m not sure what my hip hop moves are,” the outspoken octogenarian said with a laugh, “I’ve never done it, but I’ve never done any of these other dances, so what the heck!” “Who knows what we’re gonna see from her,” Greene said of Leachman, “Anything can come out of Cloris. All I want is to make her spin on her back during the hip hop part of the show.”

The discussion about the West Coast swing performance of Lacey Schwimmer and Lance Bass is about political correctness and is not focusing on the essentials. When I watched it, what I wrote down was "this is all about Lacey showing off; she should have put the focus on Lance". The judges apparently felt the same. To criticize the judges for their reaction would only be OK if millions of viewers did not agree with them based on their own eyes. Everyone could see that what they said in the context of the celebrity being the one outed or not was true. It may not be politically correct to criticize a talented dance professional, but Lacey deserved it. She needs to find a better balance in her routines. To do so will require that she show off her own skills less.

An interesting article... season 8???

Will The Reverend Al Sharpton Be Dancing with the Stars?

While being interviewed by TVGuide.com for his upcoming special Shaken Not Stirred The Reverend Al Sharpton revealed that he had previously turned down a chance to be on Dancing with the Stars due to the election and his activist work, but that next season he would be ready and willing to waltz into the show.

That’s right, The Rev, who may now become known to America as "The Reverend Twinkle Toes" (hey, he has a sense of humor!), let us know exclusively that once the election is over, he would love an opportunity to dance with the likes of Julianne Hough, Cheryl Burke and Lacey Schwimmer.

The Reverend said, "I turned down Dancing with the Stars last season because I was committed to do voter registration ...this is a very important election. So, I may do it next season. You're the first one I'm telling this to ...if they offer again I may do it." Did you hear that powers-that-be at DWTS?

Do you think The Reverend would make an excellent addition to the new season of Dancing with the Stars? Who should he be paired with?

Alec post a blog on his myspace:

Thank you

Hi;

Toni and I didn't expect to leave the competition in week 5 but, unfortunately, we can't control the outcome of the votes. I had a great time teaching Toni and I learned a lot from her about the performance business. She has been in the industry for over 20 years. The most important reason for Toni to do the show was to get healthy and to prove to herself that she can be physically active. She wanted to get rid of the fear that comes with heart disease. Taking that into consideration, she accomplished her goal. Toni is healthier now, more active and visibly more energetic.

I think this was one of the hardest seasons for me because I had to juggle the balance points of not pushing Toni too much to avoid aggravating her heart, maintaining her mental well-being, and creating entertaining choreography so we could make an impact on the audience. Many people don't realize how physically intensive dancing is, especially if you go for ambitious, splashy choreography. Toni is a perfectionist, she wanted to do everything right. It was my job (unofficially) to keep an eye on her heart condition and teach her to dance to the best of her abilities.  I am truly thankful to Toni for showing me how a true professional learns a new craft. Lastly, thank you to all the fans who did try to keep us in the competition!

Sincerely,
Alec

Lance Bass to Dancing Fans: You Guys Will ‘Make Us Win!!’

When it comes to survival on Dancing with the Stars, Lance Bass knows who to appeal to for votes–his fans.

“Thank you all for voting,” writes Bass in his latest MySpace blog entry dated Oct. 24th. “We had the worst score last week and we still didnt end in the bottom two!! Woo Hoo!! Keep it up, because I think you guys are the only ones that will be able to make us win!! Can’t really rely on those judges! HA”

On Monday night, Bass and his partner Lacey Schwimmer’s performance of the West Coast swing landed the couple at the bottom of the leader board and a verbal paddling from the judges for what they perceived was Schwimmer’s showmanship.

The pair, who are in Orlando to attend Bass’s former ‘N Sync pal Chris Kirkpatrick’s charity event for underprivileged kids, aren’t sweating the criticism. In fact, the duo indulged in some much-needed fun, going to Epcot Center and Magic Kingdom.

And managing to squeeze in dance practice on location, heading to rehearsals at Bass’s old stomping grounds: ‘N Sync’s former compound studios, which Bass writes, “sure does bring back a lot of memories!!

“The Jive is coming along great, and our first group number is this week also!! Can not wait to see Cloris doing hip hop!!! Classic!”

An interesting article:

Cloris Leachman just wants to have fun on 'Dancing With the Stars'

Feisty Cloris Leachman has been raising more than a few eyebrows during her unexpectedly long run on ABC's popular ballroom competition Dancing With the Stars.

Randily approaching the show's three-judge panel showing some leg (and occasionally other body parts), sarcastically putting down rival competitors or explaining on live TV that one performance drew inspiration from a "skanky ho," Leachman, 82, isn't the best celebrity hoofer, but she's arguably the most unpredictably entertaining.

While Dancing's judges have consistently ranked her and her professional partner, Corky Ballas, near the bottom among competitors, Leachman has drawn enough viewer votes to survive six eliminations.

"The fact that I'm still on is a (expletive) miracle," says Leachman, who over seven decades of acting has won an Oscar and nine Emmys. "I suppose (viewers) see fun and hope and happiness."

As far as her post-dance shenanigans, Leachman says they're spontaneous. "Something comes over me — I don't know what it is," she says. "If I've made people mad, I'm sorry. All my life, I've been a cut-up. I'm just having fun."

The show's executive producer, Conrad Green, denies reports that crewmembers or dancers are upset with Leachman's behavior. Instead, he says, they have taken her frolicking in stride.

"She's 82, but she's mischievous and has this uncanny ability to make people laugh," Green says. "We never know what to expect with her. But that's what live TV is about."

Ballas says that teaching Leachman ballroom moves was painful at first; he even moved her to a windowless practice studio to keep onlookers from distracting her.

But Leachman has been getting stronger and more proficient, says the professional dancer. "There are days we haven't danced because of her blood pressure. She's had some knee, rib and foot problems. But she never complains — even when I tried to get her to do a cartwheel."

Yay Cloris!  :hearts:  Love her even if she's not the best dancer.  But hey, she's ranked #4...awesome for an 82 yr lady!  :yess:
As the dances become more intense and difficult, she will probably falter and get the boot, but until then, I will continue to support her for her sincere efforts and ENTERTAINMENT!
Wow, I hope I'm that energetic when I reach 82!  Kudos to her!  :jumpy:

An update from Julianne:

JULIANNE HOUGH ANNOUNCEMENT

Julianne Hough, Mercury Nashville recording artist and two time “Dancing with the Stars” champion has been diagnosed with Endometriosis and will be undergoing minor surgery to remove her appendix. Hough experienced mild stomach pains last week and was taken to Cedars Sinai medical center. After consulting with her doctor, this course of treatment was recommended. Hough will address the surgery on Monday night’s “Dancing with the Stars” where she’ll perform with celebrity partner Cody Linley.

Endometriosis is the development of uterine-lining tissue outside the uterus on the surfaces of organs in the pelvis or abdomen where they are not supposed to grow. It is a common medical condition found in 5-10% of women of reproductive age around the world.

:jumpy:

 :-* Hi ya Rudy

Cloris is hilarious, lying on the floor with both legs up in the air to get herself up :ascared  :funny:

Love reality tv

Another article on Julianne:

Julianne Hough, Dancing Star Without Appendix

Julianne Hough's dancing feet are working just fine. Her appendix...well, that's another story.

The Dancing With the Stars pro is set to have her appendix removed tomorrow. Despite her pending surgery, "she will be dancing tonight," a show insider exclusively tells E! News.

On her website, the two-time DWTS champ confirms the pending procedure and also announces she has been diagnosed with endometriosis, a common problem affecting women that can result in growths outside the uterus and adjacent organs.

She could return to DWTS as soon as next week. Until Hough is cleared for cha-chaing, partner Cody Linley will be paired with another dancer.

Hough, 20, is the latest in a storied line of DWTS casualties.

She was rushed to the hospital last Tuesday after complaining of stomach pains while shooting the recap episode of DWTS. It was during that visit to Cedars-Sinai when doctors discovered her ailing appendix.

An interesting article:

‘Dancing’ Pro Lacey Schwimmer Fights Back Against Weight Criticism

“Dancing With the Stars” professional Lacey Schwimmer is standing strong following comments her fellow pros recently made about her weight in the media.

“As a woman, and a dancer, I am confident and happy with the way I look,” Lacey, who in her first “DWTS” season is partnered with former *NSYNC star Lance Bass, told Access Hollywood. “While it is unfortunate that two of my colleagues were compelled to express opinions about my body, and the bodies of other talented women on ‘Dancing With the Stars,’ I suppose they are entitled to them.”

As previously reported on AccessHollywood.com, last week, professionals Maksim Chmerkovskiy and Louis Van Amstel, expressed their dissatisfaction with the figures of Cheryl Burke and Lacey.

“When I first saw these women this season, I said, ‘Guys, you know the camera adds 10 pounds,’” Maks previously told TV Guide. “‘You have to do something about this.’”

And Louis, who is not on “DWTS” this season, but was paired with Priscilla Presley in Season 6, was also critical of his female counterparts.

”[People] look at this show to be inspired and think, ‘If I just work hard enough, I can look like that,” Louis also told TV Guide. “If they watch someone who’s dancing her butt off and she’s still heavy, they can be discouraged. You have to take that responsibility.”

As for Lacey, who is reportedly still recovering from a knee surgery last year, she is ready to inspire fans watching at home, regardless of her fellow pros comments.

… will focus on my work and being the best partner possible for Lance, and hopefully set an example for any girl watching who wants to dance — no matter what size she is or what she may look like,” Lacey’s statement to Access concluded.

An interesting article:

Kim ‘Leaning Toward Brooke’ to Win Dancing

With eight couples still in the competition, ousted contestant Kim Kardashian is already making her prediction for who will win season 7 of Dancing with the Stars.

“I think [Brooke Burke] has a really good chance at winning,” Kardashian told PEOPLE Friday.

Kardashian, who was celebrating her 28th birthday with sisters Kourtney and Khloe and beau Reggie Bush at Las Vegas’s LAX Nightclub, raved that Burke is “so amazing.” “She started off really well and she works so hard,” said Kardashian. And she would know since the reality TV personality says Burke “would always work in the studio right next to me.”

That said, Kardashian isn’t ruling out the competition altogether. “I think Lance and Lacy are really fun and give the show something it’s never seen before,” she said, “but I’ll definitely say that I’m leaning toward Brooke a little bit.”

Lance's Diary:

EXCLUSIVE: DWTS' Lance Bass: What You'll See on Tonight's Show

Lance Bass is keeping an exclusive diary only on Usmagazine.com about his experience competing on Dancing With the Stars. Check back each Monday to keep up with Bass' progress, and get behind-the-scenes dish on ABC's hit series.

DANCIN' IN DISNEY WORLD
This week, Lacey [Schwimmer] and I rehearsed for part of the week in Orlando, so Joey [Fatone] and I could attend a masquerade ball for [former bandmate] Chris Kirkpatrick's charity. It’s nice to be away from L.A. and have the energy of Orlando around us. We did get to go to Disney World and let loose a bit, too. While we were there, we got plush Tigger and Pluto dolls we're going to put at the end of the stage tonight as good luck charms.

WEIGHT WATCHERS
I think it’s just crazy to ever talk about a woman’s weight [like Maksim Chmerkovskiy and Louis van Amstel did]. It's so absurd that anyone would ever make comments about Cheryl or Lacey's weights being unhealthy. Lacey showed me some of the [comments] on her BlackBerry, and some people can say such stupid things sometimes.

JUDGING THE JUDGES
Lacey and I were both pretty down after we danced our West Coast Swing routine last week. It was really unfair of them to attack her. This competition is all about the celebrities and you’re supposed to have fun. No celebrity is a professional [dancer] – and they’re not supposed to be! This week, the judges’ comments had nothing to do with me. They didn’t give me any comments about my footwork or my frame or anything like that - they just attacked my pro, and gave me nothing to use going into this week's jive.

JIVE TALKIN'
The jive choreography is the craziest and fastest choreography I've done to date. Lacey's choreography is something that [guest judge] Michael Flatley is really going to appreciate, because he knows about footwork. We're dancing to Little Richard's "Tutti Frutti," and our costumes are going to be very '50s, very bright and very fun. There will be a lot of pink in there.

EVERYBODY DANCE!
We rehearsed this week's hip-hop group number all together last Wednesday and had another run-through yesterday. It was really hard to get everyone together in one room and get their attention focused on one person, but it’ll make great TV! The routine was much more like the choreography we did in *NSYNC, so I was in my element, but I have no clue how Cloris [Leachman] is going to get through it. She slept through the first half of our first rehearsal anyway. I think it’s going to just be a schtick for her. We’re probably going to just be dancing around her!
