It's amazing that Cloris has had a long career considering that she was silent movies for a time.

Ken, what silent movies can you think of being produced in 1946 when Cloris broke into show business following her victory as Miss Chicago 1946 and then competing in the Miss America Pageant? We can tell that you don't like Cloris. The only one I can think of is the 1976 Mel Brooks' "Silent Movie" although I am sure there were others in the 62 years.

It's a joke, apskip. You don't have to take things literally all of the time. I happen to like Cloris. I'm just joking about her age, something she's doing as well.

I'm taking license with her age and saying she started acting in the silent movie era. Oh, never mind. You'll find issue with that as well.

ABC Television Network

PRESS RELEASE

ABC IS NO. 1 NET ON OPENING NIGHT OF THE 2008-09 TV SEASON

Growing Year to Year and Outdrawing Second-Place CBS by Over 4 Million Viewers

ABC Marks its Most-Watched Season Premiere Monday in 9 Years, Representing the Top Season Opening Monday for Any Net Since 2002

Broadcast TV Grows its Overall Audience by 1 Million Viewers Year to Year

Monday's No. 1 TV Show, ABC's Seventh-Season Premiere of "Dancing with the Stars" Dominates its 2-Hour Time Period Among Total Viewers and Adults 18-49

"DWTS" Attracts ABC's Largest Audience in the Time Slot in 1-1/2 Years And Generates its Highest Number Among Adults 18-49 in Close to a Year

In its Season Opener, "Boston Legal" Marks its Best Numbers Since April
Monday Night (8:00-11:00 p.m.)
With the season premieres of "Dancing with the Stars" and "Boston Legal" on the night, ABC stood as the most-watched TV network on the opening Monday of the 2008-09 TV Season, outdrawing its nearest competition by over 4 million viewers (17.2 million vs. 13.1 million - CBS).  ABC also ranked No. 1 on Monday night across each of the key women demographics:   W18-34 (4.2/11), W18-49 (6.0/14) and W25-54 (7.5/16).

* Growing from opening Monday of last season by 2.0 million viewers (17.2 million vs. 15.2 million on 9/24/07), ABC posted its biggest season premiere audience on the night in 9 years and the most-watched for any network since 2002 - since 9/20/99 and 9/23/02 (CBS), respectively.  In fact it was a good start to the season for broadcast television overall, as the 5 networks combined (ABC, CBS, NBC, FOX and CW) attracted 1.0 million more viewers this year than last (48.0 million vs. 47.0 million), despite a sharp increase in DVR penetration (from 19% a year ago up to more than 27% currently).

"Dancing with the Stars" (8:00-10:00 p.m.)
The most-watched TV show on Monday night, ABC's seventh-season premiere of "Dancing with the Stars" dominated in its 2-hour time period, beating second-place CBS by 9.8 million viewers (21.1 million vs. 11.3 million) and by 26% in Adults 18-49 (5.3/13 vs. 4.2/10).  "DWTS" was also Monday's No. 1 show in the key Adults 18-49 (tied w/CBS' "Two and a Half Men" from 9:00-9:30 p.m.), besting high-profile competition including the season opener of CBS' "C.S.I.: Miami" (5.1/12) and NBC's 2-hour return of "Heroes" (4.9/12).

* "Dancing with the Stars" generated ABC's largest audience in the time period in 1-1/2 years and its highest Adult 18-49 rating since last November - since 3/19/07 and 11/19/07, respectively.

"Boston Legal" (10:00-11:00 p.m.)
In its season premiere, ABC's "Boston Legal" turned in its best viewer (9.4 million) and young adult number (2.5/6) since April - since 4/22/08

A note about increasing DVR penetration and year-to-year rating comparisons: Year-to-year rating comparisons based on the Live + Same Day data stream are distorted by the level of DVR penetration in the Nielsen sample, which has jumped up to 27% currently, from 19% at the same point in 2007. More viewers are watching shows on their own timetables, which may not be reflected in the overnight next day numbers. The only truly valid year-to-year comparison would be one based on the Live + 7 Day metric, once those stats are released by Nielsen.

I'm pretty sure that the vocalist in this commercial was one and same Julianne Hough. Her singing career has done well since DWTS 6, particularly in Nashville.

What a talented girl it's a great commercial not only does she star in it but also sings in it

An article in tv guide:

Dancing Scratches its First Season 7 Pair

He lifted his black sparkle eye-patch and the left eye looked terribly swollen, as if he'd been crying. But Comedy Central roastmaster Jeffrey Ross, who suffered a painful scratched cornea during Tuesday's dress rehearsals, wasn't shedding tears about being the first dancer eliminated from Dancing with the Stars.

"For me, it was never about the competition, it was about the dancing," says Ross, who signed up for the show to honor the great comedians of the '50s and '60s who could sing, dance and tell jokes. "Milton Berle, Buddy Hackett... they were great entertainers," says Ross. "This was my tribute to them."

But signing up was also his way of making a life transformation. This isn't the first freak accident that has stopped Ross in his tracks. Five years ago, on a Christmas Eve outing with his nephews to a Washington state ice rink, he broke his left hip trying to avoid a little girl who had fallen in front of him. That hip is now held together by three titanium pins. "That's why I walk funny," he says. Ross was also recently diagnosed with high cholesterol and high blood pressure. "So when I got a call asking me, 'Do you want to do Dancing with the Stars?' it was like a call from the heavens, a chance to get back into shape."

And over the past month, he has. "My left hip is a lot stronger now," he says. "My shoulders are stronger. And I probably lost 15 pounds."

Not only that, but his partner, Edyta Sliwinska, reports that the pair will probably get the chance to perform the dance number they had prepared for Tuesday, the quick step, during this week's second elimination show. "Production said we can do it since we worked on it for all those weeks," says Sliwinska.

Sliwinska says she's proud of her partner, who was advised not to dance after his cornea injury. But she had a feeling in her gut that their dancing days were numbered. "I know how this competition works and I know how wonderful all the other couples are," she says. "But it's all right. Jeffrey put great effort into learning to dance, and he had the courage to go out there and dance with an injury."

An interesting article:

Jeffrey Ross out of Dancing with the Stars, which tries to restrain Cloris Leachman

The first celebrity to be eliminated from Dancing with the Stars 7 was comedian Jeffrey Ross, which was pretty much unsurprising, since he had the lowest score last night.

Meanwhile, Cloris Leachman, who’s pretty much the best reason ever to watch the show, received the evening’s lowest scores, and for good reason, because her dancing was pretty horrible. It actually looked like her partner Corky Ballas was manipulating a Cloris Leachman puppet, as he had to guide her.

But seriously, screw the dancing: She’s worth keeping on the show for her entertainment value, at least until she becomes too one-note. Immediately after we learned that she was safe and about to dance, she ran over to the judges while reaching into her bra. Later, we learned that was because she gave them each $10. “I’ve bribed the judges, so we don’t have to waste the time,” Cloris told Tom Bergeron after her dance. (Earlier, in an interview taped last night, she said, “I’m going to get better scores for the mambo or they’re going to be dead. I’m going to sock them right in the face.”)

Carrie Ann gave back the money to maintain her impartiality, and when Len joked that he was keeping it, Cloris said, “Do you want it all? I know they don’t give you very much money.” She was back up at the table, although she kept moving back and forth, as if she’d been told to not leave her mark. When Bruno gave his feedback, Cloris said, “Speak English, what?” And there was lots of conversation about her “coconuts” shaking; Len told her, “last night, I had a good look at your coconuts.”

Backstage, Corky Ballas kept his arms wrapped around her, as if to restrain her. When Carrie Ann revealed her score, Cloris said, “oh you bitch,” and later said, “I’m leaving; where’s my chauffeur?” Let’s hope she doesn’t actually leave too soon.

ABC Television Network

PRESS RELEASE

ABC Earns a Solid Second on Tuesday with Viewers and Young Adults, While Ranking No. 1 in Key Women Demos

For the Second Straight Night, "Dancing with the Stars" Dominates its Slot in Viewers and Young Adults and Qualifies the Most-Watched TV Show of the Evening

Surging from its Lead-in, ABC's "DWTS" Beats Competition from 9-11pm Including Fox's "Fringe," CBS' "The Mentalist" Debut and NBC's "Law & Order: SVU" Opener

Tuesday Night (8:00-11:00 p.m.)
ABC took second place on the opening Tuesday of the '08-09 season in Total Viewers (14.3 million) and Adults 18-49 (3.7/10), and was No. 1 for the evening in Women 18-49 (5.1/12) & 25-54 (6.4/14).

"Dancing with the Stars" (9:00-11:00 p.m.)
On the 2nd evening of its 3-night live premiere event, "Dancing with the Stars" finished a definitive No. 1 in its 2-hour time period, outpacing its nearest competition by 4.7 million viewers (18.2 vs. 13.5 million - CBS' "Mentalist"/"Without a Trace") and by 12% in Adults 18-49 (4.7/12 vs. 4.2/10 - Fox's "Fringe" from 9:00-10:00 p.m.). It was the second night in a row that "DWTS" won its time slot on both Nielsen measures. Comedian Jeffrey Ross was the first celebrity eliminated. Surging from its lead-in to win its first hour from 9:00-10:00 p.m., "DWTS" beat Fox's "House"-boosted "Fringe" and CBS' debut of "The Mentalist." Building audience at 10:00 p.m., "DWTS" bested the competition in the hour, including season premieres of NBC's "Law & Order: SVU" and CBS' "Without a Trace."

* "DWTS" qualified as the most-watched TV show on Tuesday (and for the second consecutive night) and finished as the night's No. 2 program in Adults 18-49, behind only Fox's "House." It was also Tuesday's highest rated show with Adults 25-54 (6.0/14) and Women 18-49 (8.1/18).

Here are the scores from last night (delayed as a result of my obsession with Rabbit's geography challenge):

Lance/Lacey   C 7 L 6 B 8 T 21
Misty/Maks     C 7 L 7 B 7 T 21
Maurice/ Cheryl C7 L 7 B7 T 21
Brooke/Derek C 9 L 8 B 9 T 26
Cloris/Corky   C 6 L 5 B 5 T 16
Toni/Alec        C 8 L 7 B 8 T 23
Warren/Kym   C 7 L 7 B 8 T 22
Ted/Inna        C 6 L 6 B 7 T 19
Cody/Julianne C8 L 7 B 8 T 23
Rocco/Karina   C 7 L 7 B 7 T 21
Susan/Tony     C 7 L 7 B 8 T 22
Kim/ Mark        C 6 L 6 B 6 T 18
As expected, Jeffrey/Edyta was eliminated.

Well, the top score was again from Brooke/Derek, followed by Corky/Julianne. Teams on the bubble now are Cloris/Corky(who I predict will be eliminated on the results show tonight), Kim/Mark adn Ted/Inna. Ted is definitely in hot water as there are legions of fans supporting Cloris and Kim but few for him. It was nice to see Susan Lucci fight her way to a better score; ditto for Rocco di Spirito.

Tonight it was a non-dancing show except for the professionals doing their twirl for 2 minutes. Teams are declared safe throughout the show. The biggest surprise  early on is the retention of Cloris and Corky. This type of results show is in poor taste as ABC makes you wait 59 minutes to find out who lost with the remainder of the time being fluff.

The highlight of the evening was Cloris telling Maurice "I think you're in love with yourself. I certainly am in love with myself." The jive was announced as the viewer selection for the type of dance on one particular show.

The eliminated team was Ted McGinley and Inna Brayer. I predicted that if the fans did not give cloris her richly deserved reward then it would be Ted getting eliminated. I was right.

The first season's results show was only half an hour so everything breezed through. But with DWTS a ratings juggernaut, ABC/Disney is able to sell the time for an hour show and put musical acts signed with Disney like the Jonas Brothers and Jesse McCartney to fill time. The results show is really a gigantic waste of time. If ABC could stretch it out to 2 or 3 hours, I'm sure it would.

Ken, as a fan of Dancing With the Stars, I am sure you know that the order in which staying teams are presented on the results show has no relation to their actual position. Cloris being third to be announced has no meaning beyond that she is staying for one more week. There just can't be that many seniors willing to overlook her obvious lack of dancing talent for much longer.

An article in tv guide:

Dancing with the Stars' Top 11 Revealed!

After a busy first week on the "biggest" season of Dancing with the Stars ever (and boy did they not let us forget just how huge it was), another couple saw their parquet days cut short.

Ted McGinley, despite earning middle-of-the pack scores and praise from head judge Len Goodman, apparently didn't dance his way into the heart of the America as he joined Jeffrey Ross as the first victims of the competition's first week. The Married…with Children and Hope & Faith star (and the patron saint of JumptheShark.com) was visibly disappointed by his early exit, but said he hopes he made a "few of the guys on the couch with a beer chuckle."

Meanwhile, two of the judges' least-favorite dancers, Cloris Leachman and Kim Kardashian, lived to quickstep another day. Now that you've seen all the stars dance, it's time for you to pick who you think has the moves to win.

Do you think America got it right, or are you sad to see Ted go?
