From what we saw on the show, it looked like Greg deserved the star. The other kids must be doing things we don't get to see. It's too bad, though, that Greg doesn't have the maturity to realize he can get one of the stars given later and not be so bad tempered about it. Also, too bad the council doesn't have the maturity to recognize that hard work should earn the star and they're anti-productive to judge the motive. Saying "he's doing it just to get the star" is pointless. That's what the star is for .. to motivate.

The thing is, look what Greg did in week 1 - writing on the boards, etc. I personally think that the council was right in what they decided. Michael is always there to speak up (while I don't agree with what he told Taylor he is there). I think that if the gold star is motivation and Greg said himself that he knew he was one in the running then he should just keep doing what he was doing next week. That is motivation.

I wish the star wasn't a weekly thing--but something special that they never knew WHEN it would be awarded.  Then we would see more which kids were consistent. I like Greg despite his initial acting up. Remember when he put the hurt kid on the wagon at the beginning? And he tried to comfort Jimmy... And he jumped in this week with both feet. I'll be interested to see if he keeps it up! And yes he is motivated by the money, but he wants it for school.

He didn't say he wanted it for school. He said that he wanted the money, and could use it now (hes only 14/15) so I dunno.

I do remember him putting the kid on the wagon but he seemed more frustrated then anything that he got hurt and couldn't help. Ya know. Dead weight so to speak? And I think he offered to help Jimmy in a non nice way. He was being mean to everyone, otherwise Jimmy would've accepted but Jimmy acted scared of him.

What happened to Blaine?

I do think that the gold star should be something that is awarded at different times. Or given as a trophy every week and then they didn't find out til the end that it was worth 20,000.00. Kwim?

I rewatched the show with my 10 year old grand. He is loving the show. When Taylor said that they were just going to have to starve   he said that she should not be on the counsel. He said that a leader would not let everyone starve.

As far as killing the chickens, he said that if they were hungry, why not kill a couple of chickens. He thought they made a wise choice, so they could have a good meal. When they showed the food (stew) he said, mmmmm they did a good job, it looks awesome.  :lol3:

When he saw them cleaning the outhouses, he said " They have to clean the outhouses!", I said they have to clean everything, dishes, laundry, there are no adults to do it for them. He said " Boy, they are going to learn a lot of things there".

He can not wait now for the next show. He said if Taylor did not start doing anything, then she should just go home. He could not figure out the dishwasher comment.   He said what is the big deal about not having a dishwasher? :lol3:

He thinks Greg is a little big compared to all of the other kids, but wanted him to win the gold star, for killing the chickens for them and doing the crusty dishes the yellow team left outside on the ground.

When Greg said, I need the gold star. I have no money put away for college, he said, "See grandma
he needs that star". A little disappointed he did not get it, but was also glad for Michael, he was his second choice. He said that Michael would not let them starve, he should take Taylors place on the counsel. He also said that Michael should grow up and run for president.  :lol3:

All in all, he thinks the kids are really doing a good job running the town and doing all of the chores, and wants to go there himself!  :o

I am waiting for tomorrows episode cause I am pretty sure that bull/cow is not happy and im wondering why he was going towards it. Unless it was for milk? I doubt that they would have them kill a cow lol. Or that they could even do that!

oooh...where did I miss a cow? I know they showed some of the kids milking goats..

It is nice how they mixed city kids with farm kids who know their way around animals. Teaches the city kids some things about other skills that can also be valuable!

I need to go watch that 2 minute recap again!

Where is Bonanza??  Right here!

From Jaunted:

Quote
Kid Nation was filmed at the dusty old Bonanza Creek Ranch in Santa Fe New Mexico. The ranch was briefly made famous back in 1980 when "Legend of the Lone Ranger" shot there. The terrain is full of hills, prairies, ponds, culverts, corrals, and a wide variety of props that can be rented. Off and on over the years, there have been various movies, videos, commercials, and catalog shoots at the ranch, but nothing like the buzz Kid Nation is creating.

I'm getting sick of Taylor's "I'm a beauty queen, and I don't have to do anything if I don't have to do it" routine. I think she needs to get her act together, or she's going to ask to go home one of these days. The Yellow District needs to find another person who can go and help out the kids instead of sitting around and doing nothing. I know her District won the Showdown, but Taylor just needs to stop playing the Queen card and start helping all of the kids out.

Guess we'll see if she straightens up next time--I think she is bucking for a "re-election"!

And the POLL is up!  :jumpy:

I wouldn't mind if she's re-elected. I'd be jumping off the walls if it happened, because that would be the end of her snarkiness as a member of the Council. Someone needs to teach her a lesson!

For the first time last night I became worried about the kid's safety when they allowed that boy to get that close to the cow(bull?)
Animals are so unpredictable and if that cow decided to charge the boy production could not get there fast enough to save him.  Cows can kill people by accident when they get freaked like that.

I totally agree Tammy--that scared the dickens out of me. I immediately thought of tramplings and gorings when I saw that.

I also would have liked to have seen the kids hunkered down inside AWAY from glass windows during that storm--and not wandering around outside looking at outhouses during the storm.

But according to this clip--Colton is very used to cows and bulls!

An older farmer in the next town had a bull for over 10 years he raised as a calf.  The bull got spooked by something and ended up killing the guy.  I grew up around big animals and you always have to be careful the littlest things like a bug not to mention cameras and microphones on long poles coming at you.
They should have had the kids keep clear of the windows also

???  Do they have stunt bulls in hollywood? Maybe they were planted there by producers. Even so, bulls, stunt bulls or not, I think can get crazy, any animal can attack. They do have an animal expert on site though.  ???

Colton does know about steer riding, it seems his whole family does this and rodeos.

As far as the dust storm, they (production) probably knew how bad it was going to get. They have to have access to weather reports, but sometimes dusts storms come up very quickly. Wish we knew more from production member views on these subjects.

I forgot to add the bull didn't mean to kill the man at all it was an accident.  It was very sad because the bull tried to protect the farmer and wouldn't let anyone near him and kept trying to nudge him to get him up.  They ended up having to shoot the bull it was so sad. :'(

But stunt bull or no stunt bull--that thing had some HORNS! I know at the running of the bulls in Pamplona every year there are always gorings.

Go check out the darling chop of Colton in the Children's Corner though--yay blondie!

 :waves:

Hi everyone, My grandson just watched last nights show.  :lol3:  He is really sick of Taylor. He said that she should not get any food for one day and that they should have a jail and lock her up!  :lol3:

When she brought out the pan of potatoes, and handed it out to them without plates he said, she just didn't want to do the dishes.   When she told the red team that they were doing okay, but needed to scrub harder so her butt was shiny, I thought he was going to go crazy. He said the yellow team had not had to work yet. He was hoping that they would lose the challenge.

He thought Colton was just crazy to chase the bull,   :o  said he could have gotten really hurt, even though he knew he was in rodeo's, he said that the bull could have killed him. He thought that Colton should have gotten the gold star though, because he did so good in the challenge. Got all three cards for the yellow team.

He did say that Greg was wrong though. That Mallory did not just get the star because it was her birthday. He said she was really good at the store and did not stay up all night and tried to clean up the flour mess.

He said that Greg was not who he thought he was. Said he was really bad for saying bad words in front of the little kids. Said that he thought he was just a sore loser, that there were some kids at his school that act that way when they don't win at things.

About the dust storm, he said that they should have gotten into a corner in case the windows broke! I gave him a lot of credit for that one and told him that was good thinking.  :yess:

Laughed outloud at the challenge with the sheep. One time he said "look at chicken girl, she is just standing there.

All in all, he said that the show was good, thought the party was cool though. Wasn't too sure about the curfew, but thought 930 was a good time.
