Dustin Dishes on "Big Brother 8" Houseguests
As suspected, the pawn was sent packing on last night's "Big Brother." With Daniele now crowned Head of Household, we're beginning to think Eric could make it to the end. Would that mean he'd have to share his cash with America? Since Dustin is the first member of the jury, there's certain stuff ("America's Player" twist, Diary Room conversations, etc.) that CBS has forbidden The Slug from asking him in our post-eviction interview. So we're just gonna let Dustin dish on everyone left in the house before he goes into sequester. Let's see what he has to say.

08.17.2007 UNTRUSTWORTHY DUSTIN IS BLINDSIDED WHEN HE IS DECEIVED BY MEMBERS OF HIS OWN ALLIANCE ON "BIG BROTHER 8"
Dustin Becomes The Sixth Houseguest Evicted From The BIG BROTHER 8 House

And The First Juror To Be Sequestered

Daniele Wins Head of Household

LOS ANGELES - Dustin was shocked to learn members of his alliance turned against him making him the sixth houseguest to be evicted from the BIG BROTHER 8 house during last night's broadcast by a vote of 4-2 by his fellow Houseguests (the two nominees do not vote and the Head of Household only votes in the event of a tie).

On Tuesday, Dick Donato won the Power of Veto and took his daughter Daniele off of the chopping block.  Dick was left up for eviction and Jessica nominated Dustin to join him.  Despite his nomination, Dustin felt confident with his alliance ruling the house.

During last night's broadcast, a stunned Dustin, 22, from Chicago, learned his fate, said his goodbyes and left the house. After leaving the BIG BROTHER 8 house, Dustin was interviewed by host Julie Chen about his experience.  He becomes the first jury member.

After last night's eviction, the houseguests competed in a competition called "Random Acts," in which Houseguests had to answer questions about acts put on by specialty performers that they had observed earlier in the week, to see who would become the next Head of Household.  Daniele Donato won the coveted position.

For more information about the aftermath of Dustin's eviction from BIG BROTHER 8, log on to http://www.cbs.com/.

BIG BROTHER 8 is broadcast each week on Sundays (8:00-9:00 PM, ET/PT), Tuesdays (9:00-10:00 PM, ET/PT) and the live eviction show, hosted by Julie Chen, on Thursdays (8:00-9:00 PM live ET/delayed PT).

“I Was Much Too Overconfident” – An Interview with Big Brother 8’s Dustin
by David Bloomberg -- 08/17/2007

Dustin was obviously surprised to be evicted on Thursday night. What does he have to say about it? Who does he think caused it and what does he think of their move? Read on for this and more in RealityNewsOnline’s interview.

Interview with Dustin from Big Brother 8

Posted on August 17th, 2007 by admin
Today I had the opportunity to talk with Dustin, the 22 year old shoe salesman and former boyfriend of fellow houseguests Joe from Chicago IL. It looks like another pawn ended up being sent packing. Dustin will be the first member of the Big Brother 8 jury and now being sequestered until the end of the show.

Here is Dustin's interview with Julie Chen.  I am reposting it from the ongoing live feed thread so that it is here with the other Dustin stuff.

Julie: I'm sitting here talking with Dustin the first member of the jury of seven for BB8.  Alright, do you know anything that has happened in the house since you left, like who won HOH last night?

Dustin: I have absolutely no idea what is going on in the house right now.  I'm sure it is utter pandemonium for several houseguests and some houseguests are cheering with glee.

Julie: Well I can tell you because you will be find out that Daniele won HOH last night. (Dustin is disgusted and makes a noise) OOh dear what are you thinking?

Dustin: Well...ummm, for Dick and Daniele to continue their streak in this house that's exactly what needed to happen. Daniele.  If for the two of them to continue to remain in this house together for Daniele to win HOH was the best for them.  I can't say what she will do with that, but interesting to know.

Julie: You were HOH once, how did you like it?

Dustin:  Being HOH is not all that it's cracked up to be.  I'll be honest with you there is a lot of pressure, you create enemies, you have to make deals, and there's a lot of work on all sides.  To make not only everybody happy, but to keep yourself happy as well and staying true to your alliance, staying true to the house and to the house goals while trying to furhter yourself in the game at the same time.  It's not easy.

Julie: Were you closest to Amber in the house?

Dustin: Yes.

Julie: She was the closest friend that you had?

Dustin: Yes.

Julie: Now she cries very easily and a lot. How did you deal with all of that?

Dustin: Amber being the emotional person that she is began to wear thin on me, but you can't hate somebody for the fact that they care.  So it was kinda a mixed bag, but for the most part I was definately always there to support her but at the same time I was, I was always the one to crack the whip and say keep you head in the game because this is a headgame it's not a game you want to play with your heart you want to play this game with your head.

Julie:  What drew the two of you together?

Dustin: Honestly it was the very first night.  Coming down the stairs was a major feat and I have to give credit to Jessica, Dick and myself for being able to do that with such poise.

Julie: We should just explain that when you came down the stairs that is when it was revealed that you were part of the twist this year, where you were forced to live with your quote unquote enemy, your ex-boyfriend Joe.  That relationship did not end on a good note.  What did you think when you saw him and saw what you had to deal with?

Dustin: When it was revealed to me that Joe would be in the house I reacted exactly how I knew I would react and that was playing off of his reaction.  Joe's a very

Julie: He snubbed you.

Dustin: He's a very good character we shall say he...

Julie: Why that is not really how he is?

Dustin: Well no I am saying that Joe puts on a show and that he is very lively.  He is a very lively individual and so by taking more of the backseat approach cus he was very aggressive in his approach to trash talk me and to say bad things about me and to set me up to sort of be an evil person.  By taking the higher road between the two of us I feel like it set me apart from him and I lasted a lot longer than him in the game because of it.

Julie: You admitted that you were a little bit greedy in the POV com where you got the $5000 and the trip to Barbados.  Did you even think that might make some of your housemates upset?

Dustin: Absolutely. I knew going into that POV that if it was one where prizes were going to be offered that I would take it and I have no qualms about it.  You know it was my HOH reign and I would do with it what I please.  And at that moment in the game it did not matter who went home.  I had Kail and Jen on the block and if either one of them came down and another one went up it really didn't hurt of affect me as far as my game went.  And also at that point, I felt that if I didn't win this thing then I am going to at least walk out with something.

Julie: So you are twice as glad now you made the right move.

Dustin: I did, yep.  There were only a handful of regrets that I have.

Julie: What are they?

Dustin: You know honestly I would say...

Julie: Volunterring to go on the block..

Dustin: Volunterring to go on the block number one and the behaviour I exhibited over the past week.  I was really disappointited in myself by taking the low road.  And by treating Dick and Daniele in the manner in which they wanted me to.  I had better expectations of myself and the way I would handle myself under those situations and I...

Julie:  What do you think of them, Dick and Daniele?

Dustin: Not to highly.

Julie: Why, why her?

Dustin: She has a very...Daniele has a very negative attitude in the house and she chose to...and you know life is all based on choices and the choices that you make in this game are no different.  And she chose to isolate herself with Nick in the first four weeks and once he was out of the game she chose to isolate herself with her father.  And her relationship building skills are poor.  And she chose not to utilize the time wisely to make strategic relationships with people and it was just her negativity in the house that has drawn her to the position in which she is in right now.

Julie: And Dick?

Dustin: Dick is a 44 year old child and, you know, I can't say it enough. Excellent job in casting because I would never find a person like him on the streets and consider him to be even an adult let alone a parent.

Julie: Do you think his behaviour is strategy though?

Dustin: Absolutely. Dick's strategy is fear, to implement fear.  But fear does not beget respect and Dick lost my respect early on in the game by ummm....

Julie: Does it work?

Dustin: It apparently works with alot of people and that's what sad, is that a lot of people fall for it and I believe I went home this week is because the duo of...the pairing of Dick's fear tactics and Daniele's strong strategic competition is probably what ended me in the house.

Julie: Was being in the house and playing the game as hard as you thought it was going to be? Was it what you had imagined?

Dustin: It was not what I imagined. It was much more different.  You know being in that house and actually living with these people as opposed to just seeing them on television is much more difficult in the house, but it is also a different experience because there is a whole foundation of relationships built with these people based on body language, facial expression, and let alone how much you enjoy the individual so there is a lot more to it than you see on the show.  I will say that much.

Julie: What do you say will missed most?

Dustin: Oh what did I missed most windows and trees and a breeze once in a while. Not even seeing as much as another person's face aside from the 13 houseguests got really old.

Big Brother's Dustin: My Ego Trip Was My Downfall
by Nina Hämmerling Smith

Dustin Erikstrup, Big Brother 8
Proving yet again that on Big Brother a pawn is never just a pawn, 22-year-old Dustin Erikstrup was evicted last Thursday after volunteering to go on the block opposite Dick. The shoe salesman and recent college grad from Chicago shared with TVGuide.com his thoughts on his "shysty" housemate, becoming the first member of the BB8 jury, and how his overconfidence got the better of him.
TVGuide.com: To what do you attribute your eviction?
Dustin Erikstrup: The fact that I egotistically nominated myself to go on the block this week led to the inevitable demise of Dustin in the Big Brother 8 house. I made bold moves in the house and overconfidence led to my demise.

TVGuide.com: What kind of bold moves?
Dustin: I sent home America's favorite, Nick, during my Head of Household reign, and I did it without batting an eye. He was charismatic, good-looking, nice, out to help everybody.... I didn't buy it, and I sent Nick packing. And last week, when Eric and Kail were on the block, switching the vote at the last minute in order to keep Eric was a bold move.

TVGuide.com: Was it a mistake, taking the trip to Barbados and the $5,000 during the PoV competition when you were HoH?
Dustin: I don't regret it one bit. Entering the house, I thought the chances of me winning were slim to none, so I might as well make the best of it while I'm here, and that's exactly what I did. When that trip came up... I had promised my girlfriend that I was going to take her out when I got out of here, and now I'm going to live up to my word. And being a new college graduate, I have accrued quite a bit of student loans, so the money's a nice push into paying that off. People probably saw a selfish side of me, but this is a selfish game; you're in it to win it for yourself, not for somebody you met a month ago in the house. When people say that they're here to carry people to the end, I think it's a load of crap. You're in the Big Brother house to win 500 grand for yourself, not for the person sitting next to you.

TVGuide.com: So, do Dick and Daniele have an unfair advantage?
Dustin: Yes, as was proved in the Power of Veto this week. If my dad was there to bail me out during hard times, this game would have been a lot different for me as well.

TVGuide.com: When Jessica became HoH, you were thrilled. Could you have imagined the outcome?
Dustin: It's still hard to believe, I'll be honest. I got about 45 minutes of sleep last night thinking about the events of the past week, piecing together conversations that I saw, pairings of people I had witnessed. At this point, I'm still a little frazzled by the events that transpired, but apparently Dick's fear tactics have worked on people.

TVGuide.com: So what happened to tear apart the Late Night Crew?
Dustin: Dick and Daniele took it upon themselves to theorize about Eric conspiring to get Nick out. Nick was Dick and Daniele's for-sure vote till the very end. They tried to point fingers at every single person in the house and they drew straws and came up with Eric, so they decided to split up the LNC.

TVGuide.com: As you were leaving, you told Julie that "Eric was the 'shysty' person he was." What did you mean by that?
Dustin: Eric was a vote against me this week, and that inevitably led to me going home. In doing so, it just proved a point that Eric is the shysty person that Dick and Daniele pointed out to me, and it probably wasn't the best strategic move to keep him last week. Keeping him was strictly for the numbers; Big Brother is a numbers game, so it was a strategic decision, and it also happened to have been a personal one, because I like Eric.

TVGuide.com: Looking back, how was it to spend time with Joe?
Dustin: I walked out on Joe a year ago and I never looked back; I can't stress that enough. The fact that I happened to have spent 13 days with him in the Big Brother house does not change my opinion of him; it only reconfirms it. And that's all I have to say about Joe and me.

TVGuide.com: Are you worried for Amber, now that you're gone?
Dustin: Absolutely — I don't think Amber is a very strong strategic player, and in the alliance between her and me, I did most of the legwork. So now that I'm gone, I'm really hoping that she'll get her head in the game. [On Sunday, this week's HoH, Daniele, nominated Amber and Jameka for eviction.]

TVGuide.com: What did you learn from your time in the house?
Dustin: I walked into the house knowing that overconfidence and arrogance are weaknesses of mine. I got a little carried away, and that inevitably led to my demise. Just because you're on a roll doesn't mean you can't have a downfall.

TVGuide.com: Are you psyched to go into sequester?
Dustin: I'm really looking forward to taking this time to relax, find the nicest bed in the house and get the nicest tan before people come in all flustered from the week that I wasn't there for!
