Thanks apskip, that's good to know. Is it Saturday or Sunday the 26th? What are the other two flights? They may play a role in getting around down there since Ushuaia is such "a pain to get out of" according to the blogger.
Well, the "pain to get out of" issue is quite true. I noted it in a previous post(possibly not on RFF) about the options for going from Punta Arenas to Ushuaia. The options(including the addded fourth one) are:
1. LAN flight 997 nonstop departs 1400 arrives 1450 but only flies Saturday, Monday, and Wednesday.
2. A bus that takes 11 3/4 hours and leaves at 0730 every Friday and Sunday, crossing the Strait of Magellan on a ferry first.
3. Go over on the ferry and get Drive-yourself cars, which would not be much faster than the bus.
4. Ships that typically take multiple days and have many scenic stops before getting there (but would be about 2 days if they went straight through).
What is clear is that you can't fly commercial on Sunday and they could not have taken the bus on Sunday. Since we have a sighting at the Tierra del Fuego National Park near Ushuaia on Sunday afternoon, they had to get there somehow. Maybe a charter plane flight? Drive-yourself- cars combined with the ferry may still be a possibility.
