Phil: (Scene of LA) I'm standing aboard the Queen Mary in Long Beach, California. From this harbor, 11 teams will race around the world for $1 million. Helicopters are racing the teams toward the harbor.

Debbie/Bianca, lifelong friends from Virginia.

Lynn/Alex, a male couple

Rob/Amber, engaged couple (of professional mediawhores!)

Ryan/Chuck, best friends from South Carolina who call themselves "hillbillies"

Megan/Heidi, roommates from California

Susan/Patrick, mother and gay son from Ohio

Meredith/Gretchen, retirees from Maryland

Brian/Greg, brothers from LA

Uchenna/Joyce, married, Houston

Ron/Kelly, former POW and pageant queen, long-distance daters

Ray/Deana, daters from Ohio
Phil: Who will come up with the right combination of brains, brawn and teamwork to win the $1 million?


Teams assembled on the green.

Phil: In just a few minutes, you'll be leaving on a race around the world. Separated into legs. Various tasks. Cash to cover expenses except airline tickets. Eight pitstops are elimination points. If you're last, you'll be eliminated. Your first clue, waiting inside the envelope atop your luggage. When you get the word, get the clue, and run to the cars in the parking lot. The first team to cross the finish line wins $1 million.

All: Yeah! Yeah!


Phil: The world is waiting for you. Good luck. Travel safe. GO!!

Mom/Son: We're on our way to PERU!
Uchenna: We grew up in Cali!
Joyce, clappy hands: This is great!!
Megan/Heidi argue over how fast (70 mph) they're going.
The hillbillies are unintelligible in spots, without closed captioning.
(And I fear the closed captioning would be garbled!)
Meredith: Lima, Peru!
Gretchen: Usually we'd be in front of the fireplace watching this, instead of in it!
Rob: So fah we'h doing good.
Ambah: We're in last.

Deana: The other teams are breaking the rules!
Deana, conf: I can't stand it when Ray is always right.
Uchenna: Some teams are making a break. (SPeeding) We're in it to win it, okay?
Teams are flying past traffic on the 710.
One of the women teams (Megan/Heidi) sideswipes a guardrail from going too fast. Seems they're unscathed, although other teams noticed their near miss.

Rahb: How much money they give us?
Ahmbah: $132.
Rahb: This isn't Suhvivah. You can eat!


Patrick: My hands are shaking, I'm so excited!
Brian and Greg need to keep the headbands ... LOL
Kelly conf: I'm hoping the race will show Ron and I whether we're meant to be. If my dream comes tru, we win and it's a fairy tale ending.


First teams to the airport: Mom/GaySonPatrick. Hillbillies. Ray/Deana.

The first teams get on the first shuttle.
Ray: Dammit! There's the shuttle! Suck it up!
Deana: Dammit!
Uchenna: The shuttle!
Joyce: Everybody's here!
Male voice (?)Uchenna (?) : We gotta wait for another shuttle.

Susan/Patrick, Ron/Kelly, Ryan/Chuch, Lynn/Alex first to the teriminal.

Rahb/Ambah bringing up the reah.
Rahb: We're gonna win the million. But if we don't win it, we've already won a million!
Ambah and Rahb share a giggle.

Here comes the next batch onto the shuttles.

Teams get American flight.
Ron/Kelly get American "'cause we're the all-American couple!"
The gay guys team guesses wrong and has to head for American.

Gretchen is lost.
G: Oh, god darn it. We have to go around.
American's terminal is closer to the shuttle stop than United.
So the next batch of shuttlepeeps decides to try American first.

Mom shares flight info with the blondes.
One of the blondes borrows a cell phone to ask about United 840.

Rahb/Ambah finally get to the airport.
Gretchen finally finds it, too.
Gretchen yells at the shuttle: STOP!
G: He's not gonna let us on.
Rahb and Ambah got on before them.
Rahb inside, looking at Gretchen, outside: That's too bad.
Gretchen: God darn it!
Eventually Gretchen gets the shuttle to stop, so they're on the last shuttle with Rahmbah.

Gay guys are stuck getting back on the shuttle to go to United. Rahb and Ambah are surprised. American's already full.

Standing in line and wondering if they'll have enough tickets on American, Joyce/Uchenna.
Acting all smug, Mom/Patrick and Team Blonde.
Uchenna and Joyce are SOL. Off to United. 

On United: Romber, Gretchen/Meredith, Brian/Greg, Lynn/Alex
On American: Ryan/Chuck, Heidi/Megan, Mom/Patrick, Ron/Kelly and everyone who's not on the slower United.

Ray: We'd better get on a bus, quick, or we're all gonna be screwed! We don't speak Spanish!

Finally they find the buses.
Ray/Deana and two other teams get on.

Doing cartwheels in Ancon ... lol

Playa Hermosa.
Patrick and Mom get off first. Debbie/Bianca also there.
Debbie and Bianca share a play-kiss.
Rahb and Ambah ride a cart to the beach.

The United/second group is being directed to the clue box by a local. Four teams bring up the rear together, and individually ask for directions.

They had an election in Chattanooga today for mayor and city council positions. So my local cBS station keeps using the bottom third of the TV screen to show the results!!!   |:(

The 4th bus to Ancon has Brian/Greg.
The next bus has Alex/Lynn.
A later bus, Gretchan/Meredith (who almost busts his ass trying to get onboard)
Mer: Man, I hope we're not last! 

Debbie: Gracias! De nade! (well, it's close to good Spanish)
The piles have markings on the beach, so you know which direction to run to seek the early tix.

Susan/Patrick and Debbie/Bianca dig together to find the early 6:00 am TIX.

Playa Hermosa.
Off the next bus, Ray/Deana, Kelly/Ron, and two other teams.

Teams enjoy their pedal cart rides down the sidewalk.
The hillbillies eschew pedaling in favor of running with the cart in tow. They crash it into a railing or summat and fall farther back.

Debbie/Bianca get the 6: am flight to Cuzco.
Phil: The altitude there is 11,000 feet. Teams will find their next clue in Cuzco.
Debbie: You'll be spending the night on the beach.
Mom/Patrick get the second 6 am seats.
Another team will get 6 am, the rest will be later.

Rob/Amber in a footrace on the beach with Ray/Deana to get the last 6 am tickets.
Ray: How'd they catch up!!!???
Madly digging ...
Rahb: That's IT! Got it!
 

Ray/Deana head to the next pile of tickets.

Debbie/Bianca conf: If we had a choice between Amber and Rob or anybody else on our flight, we wouldn't have chosen Amber and Rob.
Digging ... digging ... scrambling to get to the digging point ... digging more ... digging ...

Brian/Greg saunter slowly onto the beach, as if they're stuck with 7:40. Surprise, surprise, surprise! They'll gamble for 7:00. Dig .. dig ... and they find 7:00.

Lynn/Alex alight from the bus, with the squealiest voices this side of Constantine Maroulis.

Joyce, in cart: The MARKED entrance.
Gretchen: Oh! Thank you! We found it! (the beach)
Gretchen runs, frustrated.
G: Oh for crying out loud! Look how far ahead they are!
Lynn/Alex find the tix for 7:00.

Uchenna: You gotta come a long way, to see what you haven't seen, right?
Meredith/Gretchen get the LAST tix on the 7:40 flight, of you can believe that.
Uchenna and Joyce, last to arrive at the beach, get 7:00.

TRANSLATED VOICE: THE 7:00 FLIGHT IS DELAYED.
Man's voice: We're screwed.
Alex/Lynn celebrate their good fortune.
Ray grimaces.
Uchenna looks glum.

Bianca and Debbie each zipline down through the gorge, and "whew" their way through the skies.

Man: You can't open your clue till you get down there with your partner.

Debbie/Bianca, CLUE:
DETOUR.
Rope a llama, or Rope a basket.
Llama, rope 2 llamas from a field and deliver to these pens. It doesn't require strength, but they don't cooperate. It'll be frustrating.
Basket, use a rope to tie a basket to your back. Filled with 35 pounds of alfalfa, carry it 2/3 of a mile to the store for the next clue.

Romber makes their way individually down the ziplines.

They decide on baskets.


Next crew gets off the plane, eight teams en masse.
A mad scramble and some very, very bad taxicab Spanish ensues

Rahb: We can do this (baskets). We've gotta wear funny hats. Come on.

Patrick pulls, tugs, fights with a llama.
Patrick: Watch it, mom! He's gonna spit on you!
Llama angrily spits ...
PTUI!
Susan: We're NOT doing this.

Bianca: Oh, come on, llama. You know you want to go.
Debbie: We're only two miles behind Rob and Amber now. I"m seriously, so furious at you (for choosing this).

Rob on Amber telling Bianca to put the basket rope around her neck to make it easier " thats our good deed for the next 38 days"
Pat on the Llama's " thats allota snot"

Bianca: Come on, Debbie. We can do this.
They decide to change tasks.

Deservedly or not, Patrick gets spit on by a llama.

Rahb: Donde?
Kids: Arriba! Arriba!
Rahb: What's that mean, fast?

At the kiosk, Brian/Greg move into a distant 4th.
Lynn/Alex and Meredith/Gretchen close behind.
Ray/Deana next to the kiosk.
Over a rickety wooden bridge they go by taxi, to the gorge.
Next'll be the zipline, one at a time.


Rob, first to the CLUE: Make your way to the Humbatio police station, and take a delivery trick to Pisac.
Phil: Trucks depart 20 minutes apart. They'll search the market place in Pisac for their next clue.

Patrick: Come on.
Llama: PTUI!
Patrick: That was ripe. 
Llama: PTUI!
Patrick: I'll stand (huff) in your frickin face (puff, pushing llama into pen) and you can spit as much as you want (huff) but just get into your freakin' pen!
