Previously on TAR, 7 teams returned to restart an adventure of a lifetime after a 19 month shutdown! Traveling throughout northern Switzerland, the Roadblock had Sheri overcoming her fear of heights. Two previously eliminated teams had their second chance, but a mistake at the Detour ended the opportunity for Michael & Moe. 6 teams remain, who will be eliminated next?

Phil says teams will be departing in groups.

Ryan & Dusty are ready to release their inner animal.

ROADBLOCK ALREADY! "Who wants to get down with the Travelocity Roaming Gnome?"
One team member must go to Ticino and visit a TAR14 Switchback, the Verzasca Dam!

In addition to the bungee jump, teams must be strapped to the gnome and jump alongside it.

Kim is immediately frightened with Ryan & Dusty believing the task involved dancing. Kim & Penn get in their cars and Kim doesn't want to think about the RB. Dusty says this was kismet.

If it is a covid protocol rule, i think its understandable, but im not sure if it is a good idea to apply it for the next seasons. Winner of the leg should also be given advantage for the next of leg and then so on to other teams

We return to Group 2 of Lulu & Lala and Raquel & Cayla reading their RB clues. Raquel says you win by methodical moves and directing. They joke about navigation as their struggle with them proceeding to struggle to read a map. Lulu & Lala want to spend less time arguing and soak in the environments.

Group 3 consisting of Akbar & Sheri and Arun & Natalia depart with the RB clue. Sheri by default has to perform the task because Akbar is too heavy. Well that's not fair.

Arun & Natalia knows things change and they could very well be good potentials in the race.

Ryan & Dusty and Kim & Penn enjoy the scenery. "I'm gonna jump off something, but at least it's pretty."

Lulu & Lala pass Raquel & Cayla on their way and they think they are underestimating themselves.

It does give hope to teams that were way behind, but it’s a bit unfair to the fastest teams. Could be a way to keep a team taking a fast forward from getting a big advantage on the next leg.

Kim and Dusty duel in a round of rock-paper-scissors to determine who goes first by their own accord. Dusty wins and he goes first. He tries to talk himself to calm his nerves.

Akbar & Sheri reach the RB with Sheri hyperventilating. She says "Oh my god" 2,039,109 times.

I thought Raquel & Cayla had a really good edit but this episode is just undermining them over and over and over... time will tell if it's just for this episode or an overall narrative for them (assuming they survive).

Very likely COVID protocols, and does make teams officially very close. With 6 teams, top teams only departed 30 minutes ahead of last departure. It does avoid having last team, being hours behind top teams.
Kind of remind me of TAR China leg start style, which mostly negates most of finishing order effects.

It also simplify processes, which they used an HOO or planning around transportation times to bunch teams together anyway.

Update: Not saying that I like it, and I probably hate this a bit, but do say that it makes sense, why they made this change.

In Bartender Race, teams must gather 12 bottles of wine and 12 bags of chestnut, with the gnome, and race to the top to find a cocktail server to get their next clue. In Sausage In Case, teams must squeeze 9 ft. of sausage and divide into 4 coils to receive their next clue.

Ryan & Dusty do the bartender choice and reaches the farmers' market stand to gather their supplies. They instantly regret it when they see the stairs. "Dude, this is going to be savage."

Lulu & Lala move up to 2nd as they pick the sausage Detour. They want to come back to Switzerland to go luxury store shopping. I agree!

Arun & Natalia find a Lugano sign, but are going the wrong way again. Luck is not on their side.

Ryan & Dusty continue to endless Jacob's Ladder while Kim & Penn reach the Detour clue in 3rd.

Lala is mesmerized by the sausage suppliers' eyes.

Lulu & Lala study the demonstration with a little bit of hope that their grandma radiates some of her skill onto them. They have bee drama.

Kim & Penn reach the bartender task while Ryan & Dusty finally reach the top. They take a stretch break before heading back down.

Akbar is proud of Sheri for conquering a dare-defying task, meanwhile Arun & Natalia are an hour out of their way from Lugano.

I'd have definitely chosen sausage. Impossible to do the rally on 400 stairs in one running so yeah that'd have been lethal to me

Ryan & Dusty go for round two on the stairs. They are visibly exhausted. Kim & Penn can't find the Marroni Castagne stand while the best friends make up some ground, wheezing, and cramping. They finish the chestnut delivery and must now do the wine.

Lulu & Lala explain the science of making sausage links. And this is Good Eats!

Akbar & Sheri reach the clue box in 4th not before they think a fire hydrant is a clue box.

Lulu & Lala make more to mitigate their chances of redoing the task. They see errors.

Kim & Penn have trained carrying weighted dumbbells and immediately finish the chestnuts portion of the task. Akbar & Sheri do the stairs and think they are overestimating their abilities. Clown music is starting to play between the best friends and Akbar & Sheri. They want to put some back because it's too much to handle. Akbar & Sheri start bickering again. They meet up with Kim & Penn again.

Ryan & Dusty finish the Detour with their last delivery!

ROUTE INFO: Teams must grab a picture from the satchel on their gnome and travel to what's in their picture, Parco Ciani. Last team to check in MAY be eliminated.

Lulu & Lala get emotional making sausage because it's a therapeutic experience for them to remember cooking with their abuela. They get their first check and are approved by the judge. "Will I be making sausages again? Maybe for Thanksgiving."- Lulu

Meanwhile, Dusty cramps up REALLY bad. Charlie horse. Lulu & Lala almost get run over by a bus. Kim & Penn finish their whole delivery.

And... RYAN & DUSTY are TEAM NUMBER ONE! They win a trip for two to Dominica by Travelocity.

Raquel & Cayla get to the sausage Detour. "I hate sausage, I'm a bacon girl." Cayla says the casing feels like alien brains.

Akbar & Sheri are still pushing, flustered, and Sheri thinks Akbar has a habit of placing blame on her for their slowdowns.

Another week of Akbar belittling his wife for falling behind. It's exactly the scene I imagined soon as I saw the massive stairs in the preview

Raquel & Cayla's sausages are rejected by the judge. Sheri is exhausted and finish the order with the judge mistakenly thinking they were short an order. They get the clue in 4th. Raquel & Cayla immediately fix their mistake and complete the sausages in 5th.

It's a foot race!!!

Akbar & Sheri take the Anita & Arthur route, while Raquel & Cayla pass them on the way to the mat. The flight attendants are 4TH and Akbar & Sheri are 5TH! Phil addresses the bickering situationship.

Arun & Natalia finally get to the Detour and do the sausages. A montage of them starts. They get their clue in last and are last to arrive on the mat. Unfortunately.... they will have to continue racing because this is a NON-ELIMINATION LEG!

Arun & Natalia feel good they are still in the race, but imagine they could do better.

Pretty good leg. The detour is pretty good btw and it feels back to the classic TAR vibe when they have to do physical task vs technical task. Stairway to heaven definitely a better task since i like how they still have to navigate to find wine + nuts and then the setting is not done in one attempt. The leg made it short but we got a slightly even editing to all of the teams so it's fine

Fun fact, Pluto TV was airing 14's premiere when this episode was on.

Kinda used to fixed starting times with China, Vietnam, and Australia, so we'll see how it goes in future legs. The fact that this leg started with a cross-country drive is pretty unheard of in recent seasons, though the driving was the biggest factor in the finishing order. Nice to see the bungee jump again on a sunnier day. In fact, they sure got lucky with weather since Lake Lugano looked beautiful. The bartender task was pretty brutal, and nice that the sausage judge didn't tell teams anything. Also happy with the team that got saved.

Speed Bump?

Good question. No mention of a speed bump, unless I missed that. I came out with the understanding, that the "hidrance" for them arriving last, will be that they get the last departure time, and they would be departing by themselves. Right?
Phil was specific about 3 departure times for the start of Leg 6. Teams 1 and 2, get the first departure, Teams 3, 4 and 5 seems to be all sharing departure 2, while Team 6 gets the last departure time by themselves.

This episode was more mellow compared to last episode, but the Detour was served (of chestnuts, sausage, and wine ) decently. The Switchback to the first-ever task of TAR14 was a wonderful callback, but I don't remember if teams were this level of emotional about it the first time around. Loved that they showed Tammy & Victor! Nonetheless, still a classic task that brings out the rawest attitude in teams. Solid leg with more defined characters of teams!

Also, does anyone believe they know how far behind Arun & Natalia were from Raquel & Cayla and Akbar & Sheri by the time they snagged 4th and 5th?

I'd say hardly. They bicker more than some incompatible dating teams (they don't even surpass the gross behavior Nathan & Jennifer or Lori & Bolo displayed), but it's almost like they get way into their heads that it results in a "bully coach" demeanor that both use against each other.

Tbf Akbar and Sheri's bickering is a typical couple bickering + they are both  exhausted and frustated. I agree Akbar's demeanor could have toned down a bit but i don't see them crossing the line

it was a good leg even though i like the previous leg more. Bartender race obviously harder than the sausage. I was hoping Lulu & Lala came in first, it's boring to see the same team won the leg.

I wish Akbar more supportive and nicer to Sheri since she had to do last 2 roadblocks. Stop yelling and saying 'we both played basketball at the same collage etc'. I mean she is your wife now, not your opponent/team mates.

its kinda sad because aside from dancing task, they weren't that bad at completing tasks. i mean they were third on the 2nd London leg. they would have done much better if not great had they competed in self-driving-less season like TAR 27.

One the different side, at least these teams know the limits of "helping other teams". I found it tolerable, but of course, I would like less helping moving forward, unlike the season that should not be named "let's give the answer to everybody in our alliance and wait for all of them to finish".

I loved this Leg. While Switzerland is an overused European country on the Race, glad they stuck with the outskirts & rural areas. The shots and angles are breathtaking. It was picturesque, stunning. I did note and I truly envy that the people look like they are living their normal lives and it looked normal in a covid setting. From where I live, I deal with crap and chaos.

Loved the Switchback TAR 14 task, bungee jump over the Verzasca Dam and a throwback to Tammy & Victor, one of my favorite winners. S.14 was the very 1st TAR season I watched and it's what got me hooked on TAR. Now I haven't missed any season. The task showed raw emotions of the teams.

The Detours were balanced. A physical and a non-physical task but detailed-oriented
You got the Bartender task that really tested the teams who did it, even the fittest struggled.
The Luganega Swiss sausage-making task reminded me of S.22's Haggis Scottish sausage-making task. Wished the teams sampled a cooked version to see their reactions.
I mean you need to sample food from the countries you visit.

Again, it was like a classic TAR.

Ryan & Dusty join my list of likable M/M Teams. Their friendship really reminded me of the friendship I share with a friend whom I treat as a brother.
Lulu & Lala are definitely the most improved. My initial impression when this was filming in 2020, was they were going to be an early boot. This time around, they are absolutely doing well from placing 10th in the first 2 legs, a slight move up on the third leg with 7th. Now they are placing 4th & 2nd. Wished they really won this leg.
Raquel & Cayla remind me of Kym & Alli. Grateful to Race and just enjoying the experience. Positive attitudes all the way. Like the Twins, these 2 are memorable F/F teams.

Kim & Penn and Akbar & Sheri. These 2 are the team type we haven't seen in TAR. Couples in their 40's. One fit and one not-so-fit. Brilliant casting, representation.
I do admire Kim & Penn, they never bicker and you could see that they are genuine people. Akbar & Sheri on the other hand, bicker and I applaud Sheri because she is a workhorse, she did 3 RB's despite the odds, she did it. Akbar should tone down. I really dislike domineering people.

Arun & Natalia, I admire their determination and they're superfans. Navigation is really their weakness. The only opportunity that will save them is a NEL or another team fails miserably at a task. But I love an underdog story. Arun's 56 and still runs, max respect, most people that I know in their 50's can't even run and get tired easily. I wonder how long it took them to reach Lugano, finish the Detour. They arrived at the Pit Stop, the sun was already setting and the greeters were gone.

Having the RB performers find out at the Pit Start that they're doing a bungee jump, then immediately sending them on a long drive to make them think about it for a couple hours... evil, but I like that better than a Roadblock decision point where it's obvious what the task is going to be. It's more fun this way.

As soon as the editors gave Raquel & Cayla a bunch of clips about how navigation was their strong suit and they were sure they were on the right track, I knew the flight attendants were in a bit of trouble.

Raquel & Cayla running past Akbar & Sheri and Ryan & Dusty struggling despite being fit were both testaments to how grueling the staircase detour was.

What is telling, is the very people that accuse him of being 'an abuser' are now abusing and haranguing him on social media. I think that says all we need to know about social media. Far more telling of them, than him. Like Ian of Ian and Teri, he can be hard on Sheri, but there is very clearly a lot of love there, and Sheri (like Teri) gives it back with her 'shut ups'.
