I don't know about the rest of you, but this is probably the episode I've been most looking forward to since the premiere? I'm really excited to see how TAR picks up after the 19 month filming suspension and what types of changes the productions have had to make?

I'm also looking forward to seeing how some COVID protocols are in use for the rest of the season (such as masks, social distancing, etc) and of course, I'm looking forward to seeing TAR's big charter plane!

And we are now on the air!

Previously on TAR, 10 teams continued racing to Glasgow, Scotland. Along the way, Akbar & Sheri stalled out! While Kim & Penn performed all the way to the top. Meanwhile, Arun & Natalia made costly mistakes that ended their race and were eliminated. "This is the best experience any father could hope for." In an unprecedented first, the race was suspended!

After 19 months and a safe plan in place, teams will restart in St. Gallen, Switzerland!

All are welcomed back to TAR and the world is waiting for them yet again. They are alerted teams are missing because not everyone had the ability to come back and race due to circumstances of their own.

Arun & Natalia and Michael & Moe come sprinting back again. The rest of the teams are speechless for a second before Kim says "because they came back, we can begin the race". Ryan jokes about his incarceration experience in a lighthearted way while Natalia is excited to be back. Raquel & Cayla got furloughed. Lulu & Lala broadcasted their radio show through their basement and their grandmother passed between the suspension in filming and is racing in honor of Granny.

We return from commercials to teams riding the buses to the mountains. 1st Bus: Ryan & Dusty talked about hiking in Colorado and polished their skillset before continuing the race. Kim & Penn hope they see another dance challenge and are excited to return, showing their kids they want to finish what they started. They consider themselves a very close-knit family.

2nd Bus: Michael & Moe and Arun & Natalia want to make the most of their return on the race. They promise not to be the first team eliminated again.

Last Bus: Akbar & Sheri do not like heights. "If we skydive, we dyin'." Akbar wants to be more patient this time around, putting aside his coach mentality.

Teams are taking in the views of the countryside.

Considering the low bar that stunt and heights-based tasks usually fail to clear, I like this one! While it is hard to pass, Ryan and Penn were able to cut ahead and the climb seems physically taxing. If only teams weren't bunched by the gondola afterwards. Hopefully the driving portion spreads teams apart a bit.

Michael & Moe get to the Detour first! Oh wow.

DETOUR: Punch It or Toss It
In Punch It, teams must attach ornaments to a belt in the correct sequence to tell a story to receive their next clue. In Toss It, teams must toss and twirl a Swiss flag in a traditional routine to receive their next clue.

Kim & Penn make it in 2nd while Ryan & Dusty, Lulu & Lala, Arun & Natalia, and Raquel & Cayla follow behind.

Michael & Moe are last while Natalia says to not help them. They want to focus on their own race.

Sheri is still trekking back and rips open the clue to the cars.

Kim realizes that whenever she lifts the flag, her arms get sore. She mentions that the money will be enough to pay for their kids' college tuitions and it's lighting a fire under her belly to get it done. Their second time was successful! They finish in 2nd.

Anyways, stoked that the music I loved from the mid-contemporary seasons are making a huge comeback! This leg has been truly one of the best Switzerland legs next to season 14's iconic run.

Seeing Arun & Natalia lost, Akbar & Sheri bicker, and Michael & Moe stress out over a small mistake, it seems that the twins easily win the "most improved" award when comparing their performance with the first few legs.

That being said, I think something had to have been edited out. Push It seemed way easier than the choreography-based Toss It, unless the process of putting a hole in the belt is a lot more difficult and/or precise than it seems. Plus, we saw press photos with giant cabbages, and they didn't show up anywhere. It seems a shame to edit tasks out three legs in a row, though, as stated before, this leg is still better than the rest.

Honestly, the fact that Akbar and Sheri could overcome a 30-minute deficit to beat two teams is a testament to the leg design, or at least the hope that self-driving for the rest of the race brings. It certainly makes the legs and episodes feel fuller!

I'm pretty shocked this leg was an elimination! I do not know how many legs we have; according to the number of episodes left, we could have 10 or 11, but it seems like we have to have NELs with 6, 5, and 4 teams left to fill the season?

I think hindsight and time helped production a lot, and it shows.
The first two legs were clearly very rushed, as they were trying to got through as much as possible, while the tidal wave of the real world was rushing in.
Still wished we had a few more seconds to update us about the teams that were not able to return. But considering, there was clearly another ARI that was cut from the leg, not surprised there was not time for it.

Its definitely the best leg so far on this season, feels like old vibe TAR is going on with this leg, especially with self driving madness at the near end of the episode. Its weird that the two teams that would do the punch it were the last two teams of this leg while even sheri and akbar could overcome those two teams despite a heavy RB setback. What i can observe of this stuff is that the punch it location is pretty much difficult to get to the pit stop than the toss it location ~~or they were just that bad at navigations~~

Well, damn. Thought the first leg of the filming resumption would 100% be a non-elimination. Now they're down to 6 teams in the fifth leg.
Overall, best episode yet this season! Taking leg design away from population centers may actually work out better if tasks like this are an indication.

There are six more episodes. So there will be 3 more eliminations legs, 2 non-elim/keep racing legs and then the finale (March 2nd).

It's the leg we thought might never happen, and I'm glad that it felt normal. We had a pretty intense close competition and navigational issues even with automatics. The Roadblock surprisingly wasn't linear, and the Detour was good. It was also surprising that it wasn't a NEL, and it was sad to see a team done in by the same mistake.

I'm going to wrap up my post-live airing updates in this thread and present a, WOW. WOW. WOW. award.

The editing and MUSIC has dramatically improved for the better from the past three legs in the UK.
The rush to each location between teams feels like I was watching any TAR9-17 episode, the golden batch in my opinion.
Kim & Penn, Akbar & Sheri, Ryan & Dusty, Arun & Natalia, Michael & Moe, and Raquel & Cayla's storylines finally shined through in a competitive fashion.
The unpredictability at the end of the episode.
Teams all getting flustered at one point or another.
The scenery and my bias toward memories of my time trekking into the Swiss Alps.
The crew that was 19 months in the making.
Last, but not least, Michael & Moe, cheers for returning and giving it all both times and not giving up.
I am really moved by this.

Thank you to the editors, Phil, and teams for pulling together an episode that truly feels like an escape to the glory and essence of what TAR captured for me and transformed me into a lifelong fanatic!

I actually really enjoyed this episode! Def my favorite of the season so far. Though I wish we could have seen this cut task. It was the task I was looking forward to most out of all of the ones previewed.

Loved this episode, always love Switzerland's view & scenery. Still surprised it wasn't non elimination leg, feel sad with the cops eliminated first in both race. I wish they showed and told us why some teams that couldn't back and let them say few words

WOW!

I am amazed. This episode was a home run for me. Switzerland always takes my breath away with the scenic landscapes. This is 1st time St. Gallen was visited, I think?
Loved the tasks. Absolutely stuck with Swiss culture. Finally an "extreme task" as this was lacking in the 1st 3 episodes. Self driving aspect and navigation is a plus. But automatic, this is a first.

The editing. Everyone got a decent amount of screen time. Everyone shined in the episode. It felt like a bygone era of TAR, good old times. The music as well, very suspenseful.
Props to the editors

Loved the cast! Great personalities and characters. Casting team did an amazing job with this batch. Everyone is likable, nobody to hate as compared to S.32, where more than half of the cast is dislikable. I think they took in people's comments and taken that into account.

I found it unfair, that the restart leg was an elimination leg. Wished it was NEL, it would feel better since these teams waited 19 months. This was a shock.

This is a new era of TAR. Major props to the TAR Team for pulling this off. In a COVID time, to pull of the Amazing Race is feat no other reality show can accomplish. Bertram & Elise and Team, I want another 10 seasons or more!!!

I cannot travel with this COVID situation, hence, this is the closest thing that I can get to see the world.

I'm glad there were plenty of opportunities for Akbar/Sheri to catch up in the second half of the leg to make up for the slow start!

Explains why those two were the last teams. Agreed its weird that they didnt air that since its a historic double speed bump

It makes it even more annoying that it wasn't shown. There was actually a speed bump (pun intended) for these teams, They didn't simply fall behind. There was probably no speed bump board, and the info was probably in the same clue that was pointing teams to the detour choices, assigning this additional task for the two previously eliminated teams.

I heard an interview with Phil (on RobHasAPodcast) where he talked about greeting the teams after the Covid pitstop. He told us he had said "Before we were so rudely interrupted".
In the aired episode he only says "Before we were interrupted". But if you listen carefully you hear that there is a glitch in the audio track. just before "interrupted". So it seems as if somebody edited out "so rudely" so some reason.

The uniqueness of that speedbump alone was worthy of being included. They could have edited out some of the bickering between the married educators which got to be tedious.

Or had a 90 minute premiere. You don't NOT SHOW the very task that causes an elimination. You show WHY they had to do this and WHY they had trouble. The finding the place was what caused the loss not the task itself...and that SUCKS!

what's weird to me that the 'speed bump' task was placed right before the pit stop. it probably a bit unfair to the affected teams since it's really hard for them to catch up with other teams. it would have been better had it been put before detour

I remember in Season 17, Nick & Vicki were like a day behind the final three and they still showed them doing the Speed Bump so I don't get it why they didn't show this one.
