The Amazing Race Australia 7.30pm-8.30pm

The teams IKEA skills are put to the test as they must deliver and assemble goods to a local market. Unfortunately, for one team, it’s the end of the race and the end of their shot at $250,000.

I don't think the fires in New South Wales were as bad as predicted, so as a result, I don't think Ten will do Rolling Coverage into the night, which means we WILL get Leg 6 tonight!

Looking forward to the episode! Should be another good one hopefully!

Recap!

First Task: Travel to Mongol Els Sand Dunes and dig in the dunes for a box that will reveal their next clue.

All teams seem to depart close to each other even though Beau said in pre-race interviews that he waited for six hours in the Mongolian desert? Not sure if they are departing in the time intervals that they arrived in?? :groan:

All teams digging in the sand around the same time. Ash/Sid followed by Tim/Rod are first to dig up their clue.

Roadblock: Learn and perform a Mongolian wrestling song to get their next clue.

Sid struggling at the Roadblock and fails on his first attempt while other teams struggle digging in the dunes.

Sid gets the song on his third attempt.

Detour: Dance or Deliver - Mongolian Folk Dancing or Delivering items through Mongolia's largest market.

Tom/Tyler find their box after 2 hours 50 minutes.

Jerome/Jasmin and Viv/Joey overtake Tim/Rod and complete the Roadblock.

Due to the four-hour time limit, both Hayley/Mikkayla and Femi/Nick get a 2 hour time penalty and move onto Roadblock.

Sid/Ash arrive at the Dance detour - looks really fun. Jerome/Jasmine overwhelmed at number of boots they have to deliver at the Deliver detour.

Tim/Rod complete Roadblock in 4th place. Jerome/Jasmine losing each other in the crazy market place.

Sid/Ash think the Dance detour is harder than expected. Sid struggling with a knee injury and consider swapping to Deliver.

Tom/Tyler near the back of the pack - feel frustrated being so behind. Tom has experience with languages - appears to complete it rather quickly.

Viv/Joey at Dance along with Sid/Ash. Tim/Rod feel confident because they dance at home all the time. They are nailing the challenge while Viv/Joey get panicked watching them and decide to switch. They are very stressed and struggling to get a taxi - apparently it is impossible to get a taxi in Ulaanbator.

I didn't really get why there was a two hour penalty, seemed extreme and once one of the last two had got ahead it was all over.  The tasks were ok otherwise, the Mongolian legs have been ok.  Of the cast though Viv/Joey and Sid/Ash have more character than the others left.

Viv/Joey struggle to get a taxi so decide to travel by foot - 2 kilometers!

Hayley/Mikkayla and Femi/Nick know that the rest of the leg is between them. Both seem to get the roadblock relatively quickly and both choose to do Dance.

Sid still struggling with his knee. They look quite good but fail on their first two attempts. The dance routine looks hard. Ash wants to go back to training room but Sid wants to keep trying. In a confessional, Ash says Sid often takes it out on her when he's stressed.

Jasmine/Jerome having an argument whilst transporting furniture.

Tim/Rod look fantastic in the Dance detour and succeed on their first try. The judge looks very pleased with them. Tim/Rod in first place and hope for the pit stop.

Pit Stop: Chingisiin Khuree Camp - caution: heavy traffic because Putin is in town.

Jerome/Jasmin complete detour after argument but again struggle to find a taxi. Sid/Ash annoyed they lost their lead but are determined - Judge finally approves them and are in third place leaving the detour.

Crazy traffic with all three teams struggling in taxis.

Viv/Joey are short so say they have trouble walking around the market place.

Race to the Pitstop - Sid/Ash win the leg and are excited! Win $1,000 each and Beau gets in on the hug?

Tim/Rod in second and Jerome/Jasmin in third.

Entire population of Mongolia on one road apparently - all teams struggling with traffic.

Femi/Nick's driver decides to go off road and cuts 30 mins of traffic. They arrive at the Dance detour before Tom/Tyler. Both teams complete the detour but Tom/Tyler get a taxi first.

Viv/Joey scared that they are last and are still doing the Deliver Detour.

Hayley/Mikkayla confident doing dancing and complete it. They have no idea where they are sitting. Viv/Joey are last to finish the detour. More taxi drama.

Viv/Joey again can't get a taxi - they find a Mongolian boy that asks them what country they are from. They decide to use him to help find a taxi that then tells their taxi driver the location in Mongolian.

Tom/Tyler arrive in fourth and Beau tells them they are slipping further and further behind in the race.

Femi/Nick in fifth but have a two hour penalty to sit out.

Sunset approaching as Viv/Joey arrive at the Pitstop - they are prepared to be eliminated. Shocked to check in fifth. This seems like a very long leg in terms of time.

Femi/Nick's two hour penalty is over and check in sixth before the girls even get to the Pitstop.

Hayley/Mikkayla arrive at dusk in last and are eliminated from the race. They are proud of their achievements - but say they need a hiatus from sand dunes.

Next week: Africa! Looks like an intersection and the rivalry between Sid/Ash and Jasmin/Jerome intensifies.

I enjoyed the leg but not as good as yesterday! Wish the Roadblock was a little harder and maybe involved actual wrestling? Plus it's more fun when teams have to dress in traditional costumes - it would have been hilarious to see them in wrestling gear.

Really frustrated that it seems that they are not releasing teams in the time intervals that they arrived in - this is very annoying and ruins a key aspect of the game. It probably explains why we don't get departure times. :furious:

Also, what is with the random 1st place prizes - some legs have and others don't?? Is this just edited out or do they not get any? :groan:

Otherwise, at the half way point I'm still enjoying this season, despite some elements of production lacking. Hopefully Eureka will be able to improve on this for next season? The diversity and entertainment of the teams are certainly the best aspects of the show!

Interesting thing I noticed about this episode was there seemed to be a missing scene cut.

On episode 5's "next time on The Amazing Race Australia preview" there was a scene featuring one of Tom/Tyler hurt themselves during the dancing task and fall down screaming in agony along with a confessional of one of them saying "Holy sh*t, we're not gonna be able to do this."

Screenshots: https://imgur.com/gallery/nu172cT

But in episode 6's final product none of these scenes appeared and the edit just shows Tom and Tyler breezing through the dancing Detour with complete ease when clearly that's not actually what happened? Very interesting that they included that on episode 5's preview for episode 6 but not in the final episode edit itself.

Makes you wonder what other things get left out of the edit?

Thanks for updating aussieamazingracer! Great work!

Tonight's episode was OK, but not as good as last night. Enjoyed how President Putin disrupted the Mongolian traffic. That was great to watch.  :funny:

The tasks were all OK. Enjoyed the Roadblock and the Dance Detour, but the others were pretty stranded. Felt very sorry for Hayley & Mikayla because that 2-hour penalty for not finding the clue in 4 hours, was quite harsh. If the conditions were fine, you should be allowed to keep going!

Personally I think this was the strongest episode yet.

Just wish they would stop doing double legs in countries :(

I'm guessing he had a leg cramp and was able stretch it out, drink some water and continue. It was weird to have that in the preview and then not even suggest it happened in the episode.
