KENNETH McALPINE & RYAN LACHAPPELLE
Remember these words (or maybe it’s one word) – “GIVE’R!”
It’s the life motto of two 25-year-old best friends from Collingwood, Ont., currently living in Rossland, B.C., and looking for places to surf in the summer.
High-energy party-animals in the mold of Bob & Doug, Wayne & Garth, FUBAR or Trailer Park Boys, they have been touted as the TARC contestants most likely to land their own show.
“We’re Team Give’r,” Ryan says. “We want to tell the world. Give‘r means, ‘Give ‘er all you got!’”
“When we first met as kids, we actually didn’t like each other,” Kenneth recalls. “We were the only two roller bladers in Collingwood, but you’d have different crews you’d hang out with. Finally, in high school, we had two classes together in grade 9, and we clicked.”
Kenneth’s a chef and Ryan’s an events coordinator at a ski resort. But surfing entered their lives when they decided to move to Australia a few years ago, practically on a whim. “We’d never even seen a surfboard,” Ryan says. “And then we started and it’s become the most addictive thing in our lives.”
