American Idol Cancelled After Fifteen Seasons
« on: May 11, 2015, 10:02:12 AM »
http://money.cnn.com/2015/05/11/media/american-idol-cancelled/

The music reality show that was once the most popular on U.S. television will return in January, but Fox announced on Monday that it will be a farewell season for the series. Jennifer Lopez, Keith Urban and Harry Connick, Jr. will return as the judges for the final season as will host Ryan Seacrest.

The show was once a ratings juggernaut and huge profit driver for Fox. It averaged more than 20 million viewers every season from 2003, it's second year on the air, through 2011, according to ratings tracker Nielsen, making it the top rated non-sports program on television through most of that period. It reached a high point with an average of nearly 31 million viewers in 2006.

But its ratings have fallen hard since then, with an average of only 10.3 million viewers last season, and only 9 million viewers so far this year. It is no longer even Fox's top rated program, losing that distinction to the new drama Empire.

I don't really care for American Idol anymore, but it's sad to see a staple show gone! :(

I'll definitely watch the final season (unless I get bored in the middle of it )

FINALLY! This has taken way too long to happen. All of the recent seasons have been crap imo.

Jax tbh = overrated. I didn't think she performed well and made an impression in all her performances. This title is Clark's to lose.

I totally think Nick is underrated, like Kris Allen, and this is a great final 2 and the only person whom I would like to see here would be Joey. However, since the judges were brainless to use their SAVE on Qassim... poor Joey took the shocker vote home.

And, really... the season where Candice won was good, but Season 14 killed it again with all those mediocre singers making it till the end.

The last REALLY commercial artist they produced was Carrie Underwood in Season 4. And I think after 13 seasons, Carrie Underwood, Jennifer Hudson and Kelly Clarkson remains the most successful artists produced by the show.

Good bye American Idol. :(

I don't really have a feeling one way or the other as I don't watch the show. I had a look to see what people were saying.

If you think there are too many singing show (which I agree, are crap), wait until you see the amount of crapy cooking and renovation reality shows in Australia at the moment.

I have Lifetime Asia. TAR Australia airs here! (Yay) Australia's Got Talent, The Voice Australia, X-Factor Australia also airs here. (NOOOOOOOO)

I disagree though about cooking shows, I loved My Kitchen Rules! :P (at least the season they were airing here)

Aussie's TV shows can be really mundane. But I hope The Voice continues to deliver. Somehow, the sound quality of that show is ALWAYS better than AI

Done with this season. Olivia Rox is the best singer this season and got eliminated?

No wonder this show is cancelled.

Before I watched this show from start to finish but it started to take a nosedive when Season 12 came.  From Season 12-15 I only watched up until the Green Mile Round. Many of the best singers only finished in the Top40/Top 48/Top 51 and were not selected to move to the Top 24. Very crappy selection process by the judges to get to the live shows. Good thing the show is getting cancelled already. Real talent does not even make it into the live shows just a bunch of sob stories, famous parents, good looks etc...

Absolutely, The judges disliked her performance during the Top 10 night. Kelly Clarkson gave her wonderful advice and she did not do it for the Top 8 round.

I gave up on the rest I guess. They will just be like the rest of the American Idols they have been producing and last for about one hit.

Kelly Clarkson, Jennifer Hudson and Carrie Underwood remains as the top 3 most successful idols ever. The rest... gosh. They should have just stopped at Idol 5.
