So after the first exciting day of TAR on Iquique and me following them around and waiting for the last team to arrive at the first pitstop of this race, this is what I could gather from some personal contacts and what this forum could find on twitter. Locations are confirmed but the order of the events in Santiago are not confirmed.

Leg 2, Iquique - Santiago, Chile

June 10
Pitstart: "Plaza Prat's Clock Tower"
Jut before midnight start for the second Leg under the Clock Tower from Iquique's Main Square Plaza Prat.

June 11
Route Info: "Museo Replica Corbeta Esmeralda"
Make your way on foot to the museum, it opens at 8:00 and it takes 10 minutes on foot to get there from the main square, so teams are probably gonna get all together. No Task here only clue inside.

Route Info: "Irland 3 Salt Mine"
Teams took taxis from the museum to "Kilometro 21" (they might call it differently) from where they grabbed a bike and ride it to the abbandoned Irland 3 Salt mine, they were followed by a 4x4 pickup truck with camera and sound crew.

Detour: "Ireland 3 Salt Mine"
Both choices inside the open salt mine.
Option 1: Change in your swiming suit, jump in to a pool of salt water, get out and stack some salt sacks (confimated by preview)
Option 2: Break an amount of Salt Rocks and (maybe) fill some sacks.

Route Info: Santiago, Chile.
Drive your bike back to "Kilometro 21" (They might call it differently) and from there teams would take back the taxi they left waiting for them to take them back to to Iquique to take a bus to Santiago's Estacion Central.

June 12
Route Info: Estacion Central.
Take the metro train from "Estacion Central" to "Plaza de Armas" this are two stations that teams are gonna need to change lines, so if they don't understand the metro system they are gonna get lost underground. From twitter user.

Route Info: Plaza de Armas.
Teams and clue box spotted here.

Roadblock: Paseo Ahumada or Plaza de Armas
Shoe polish and stored your tools in an specific way and take them to an unknown location. From twitter user.

Route Info: Cascada de las Animas, Cajon del Maipo, Santiago, Chile.
Twitter and taxi drivers talk about driving the teams to the Waterfalls. Canopy is an activity that can be done here and the preview shows the teams doing it over what probably is "Rio Maipo"

Pitstop: Unknown. Probably on Cajon del Maipo, Santiago, Chile.
Possible bridge over "Rio Maipo" is seen on the "on our way" preview for this season.

And that is the end of my contribution to this forum at least from this season. Peach and co. feel free to edit and apply your layout to this. No links this time but feel free to add them to this.

As far as we know, YES. But there is a 24 hour bus ride between Iquique and Santiago so this is gonna be a long one for the teams.

I've been thinking about it and the canopy of the promo for this season might be at the start of Leg 3 instead of the end of Leg 2... Same location but more sunlight to work with, specially if in one of the sightings picture we could see the clue box at Plaza de Armas in Santiago at Night.

Bunch of press photos released yesterday - I only have the thumbnails - but they show us the name of the detour selections - "Brining" or "Mining"
They also have the exif info intact - I'll put them in chronological order when I get a chance...

Caption/Description: "Zip It, Bingo" -- In this Road Block, Amy must find a marked Lustrabotas stand and perform a shoeshine in the streets of Santiago, Chile on THE AMAZING RACE, Sunday Oct 6 (8:00-9:00 PM, ET/PT) on the CBS Television Network. Photo: Robert Voets/CBS ©2013 CBS Broadcasting Inc. All Rights Reserved.

That pretty much confirm the location of the Roadblock to be "Paseo Ahumada". A pedestrian street right next to "Plaza de Armas" As a side note IIRC that street is FULL with shoe stores for some odd reason.

The "Lustrabotas stand" is the thing Amy is carrying behind her BTW.

Wow. The breakdown of Leo & Jamal could be very Tammy & Victor-esque in terms of their storyline throughout the rest of the Race.

Didn't we see team Duck dynasty doing the salt bath too in one of the promo video's , unless i'm mistaken , maybe they had to switch detours.

Just an observation about the Brining Detour (must add salt to a pool of fresh water until they can float well enough to read a newspaper in order to receive the next clue on THE AMAZING RACE). It seems those with the body type better suited to floating chose the Mining Detour.  Better for us viewers, but maybe not the best race strategy.

I really don't understand the newspaper part of the task...

Also that's why I waited for the video, Rowan in the pic seems to be arguing but in the video he is begging...

Also I kinda like watching Leo&Jamal arguing with each other they seemed to friendly almost fake, but this will change they way they are gonna race.

Leo probably lost something, I can imagine Jamal blaming him for one of the challenges.

In the Dead Sea in Israel, saltiest sea on Earth, it is common to be floating so much that people can read a newspaper without geting the paper wet. I think it should be something similar. There are images for sure in google images about that. ;)

Based on this bit of information provided by Vitoko:

Quote
Route Info: "Irland 3 Salt Mine"
Teams took taxis from the museum to "Kilometro 21" (they might call it differently) from where they grabbed a bike and ride it to the abbandoned Irland 3 Salt mine, they were followed by a 4x4 pickup truck with camera and sound crew.

and this picture of Team Bingo riding the bikes:

I was able to find a likely location for the Detour.  The solar altitude indicated by the nose shadow says it is about 9:30 am.  At that time the sun was shining from azimuth 74.5 degrees.  Sincre the  sun is exactly at his left we know the roadway that he  is riding on is pointed with azimuth 74.5 + 90 = 164.5 degrees.   That helps to find the right stretch of roadway.  Looking within one taxi ride from Iquique I found a road with exactly that angle!  It's the A-750 south of and inland from town.

Here is Kilometro 21 in Streetview:  https://maps.google.com/maps?q=iquique+chile&ie=UTF8&ll=-20.856135,-70.062894&spn=0.013324,0.02223&oe=utf-8&client=firefox-a&hnear=Iquique,+Iquique+Province,+Tarapac%C3%A1+Region,+Chile&gl=us&t=h&z=17&layer=c&cbll=-20.856344,-70.062804&panoid=nL69pbWda0nPElFGtW4HlA&cbp=12,203.84,,0,16.68

From Kilometro 21 it is a 3.6 km ride to an abandoned salt mine.  Thanks to Vitoko, I believe this is the location of the Ireland 3 Salt Mine and our Detour.   :conf:

You got it backwards. Detour before bus ride to Santiago.

I guess I could do some research with local historians and stuff like that but is not really worth it. To be honest I didn't knew this thing existed before June and I've live here my entire life, I honestly don't remember where I found out about the name of Irland 3, it's been a long time since I got that information...  :umn:

Also that wikimapia says that the closest city is Tacna, La Paz and Arequipa... Not Iquique, Arica, La Tirana, Tocopilla, Alto Hospicio... so yeah...  blahblah

The shoeshine task is about to be my favorite task on this Leg! I hope the Chilean peso goal is high and looking impossible when teams begin. :hearts: Looks so much more challenging since teammates will have to drag the station around with them in Santiago than being literally "stationary".

RESPONSE TO BAD PUN: :groan:

Anyway, does anyone know the distance between the Lustrabotas stand street and zipline location? It seems really far as the forest background completely contrasts the city life.

Could there be an unaired task in between rb and pitstop?

Well how would we know if it's unaired.. if the episode hasn't even aired yet

:funny: I meant is there one we know of that will probably be unaired?

Well if you looked at the leg summaries on page one, you'd see the only task we know of between the RB and PS is the zipline. None of us know for sure if the zipline is going to air or not, we'll just have to wait and see.

It should do as we see it in the promo.

We may find out if there's a previously unknown active route marker task when the episode airs tonight, or in one or more of the insider videos CBS will post later tonight, or from the Racers themselves, either in elimination interviews or later after the season airs. We've even learned of some tasks at TARcon!

(The exit interviews were how we learned about that first roadblock ever that wasn't aired (cooking an ostrich egg at Songwe Village) and it was included as an extra in the TAR 1 dvd set.)

New sneak peek video up in post 2!

My take is that these are the forefront players...anyone not seen here is prob substantially behind. We know from the other vids that the Mining group of the guys is together, prob about the same time as this group of briners.

From info, I can say that NFL and Jason/Amy arrived neck and neck at the mine...while Nicky/Kim depart 2 HOURS 18 min later than NFL arrives...unknown how long this all took!

Are we?

What if it was unaired because the back of the pack got there at night so it was too dangerous for them to do it :S
Ashley&Ally talk about San Alfonso in the pitstop interview from the insider videos, and the clue from the roadblock didn't say anything about it, maybe this was edited out.
I still think is the beginning of Leg 3 though.

You are right, and they are departing at night. My bad! :)
I change my answer to unaired task then. :)

I wonder if teams got a chance to shower after doing brinning? Otherwise the 24+h bus ride might have been tad uncomfortable...

I do not know if they got to shower, but they probably had time. There was a wait for the bus for most of the teams, but was there a shower handy.

The Bus terminal has showers if you want to use it, I wouldn't do it if I was you but you can use them.

Either way probably they didn't use it, Nicky&Kim said in the pitstop interview that they were using the same clothes from the salt mine, and something about washing their hair in the sink or something like that...

If they just got into the salt in swimwear I'm sure they'd get through the rest of the leg okay, since they could dry off and change.

Just confirming what Vitoko and Chateau wrote about earlier: the turnoff to the mine (viewpoint here; you can see the Irlanda 3 sign on the left).

I agree completely. I once went swimming in the Dead Sea, and the feeling of so much salt was very unpleasant, almost painful, you had to wash with fresh water immediately after.

So I was rewatching the episode with my family and my dad actually caught something I didn't see before.

We were totally fooled by the editing... small pics because I don't wanna mess the forum.

This are Brandon&Adam and Rowan&Shane getting tickets in Iquique's bus terminal.
Now check this:

That in the background is Rowan leaving Iquique with Nicky&Kim who as we know were the last team to leave the detour so they would be the last team to get tickets to Santiago and were in the same bus as Tim&Marie, Ashley&Ally and Tim&Danny

Coquimbo''s bus terminal from a different perspective.

Now we get a new shot of Rowan&Shane getting a different bus to Santiago but they are not in Iquique, even the editing show us that they were actually in a stop in Coquimbo so they actually LEFT the bus with the back of the pack and got a new bus to Santiago from Coquimbo. Which is a Bus Ride of 6:30 hrs.

So yeah they actually got out of the second bus and got in a third bus. So they trying to outsmart the rest of the pack and Rowan finding a different lustrabotas was what got them eliminated.

I found this really interesting I figure I would share it with everyone here.

Thanks Vic!! Awesome detail!! Do bus schedules show how long a layover they would have had there?

Hard to tell especially if what Rowan said in the interview is true and the agency pulled a different bus from the route to take them to Santiago.

Let's they use the Bus that leaves Iquique at 14:00 and arrives to Santiago around 16:20. 26 HRS
give or take, because of multiple stops on the way, it usually is 27 hrs.

That Bus arrives around 9:50 of the next day to Coquimbo (where they would've left the pack) Almost 20 HRS

The next bus to leave would do it at 10:30 and according to the agency website it would arrive to Santiago at 15:50. Almost 6 HRS

So I'm quite confuse on what actually happened to them.

Rewatching the footage it says that Rowan&Shane arrived to Santiago at 19:03 and to do that they should've take the bus that leaves Coquimbo at 13:00.

Also it says that the 2nd bus arrived at 18:44 to Santiago from Iquique, and to do that they should've take the bus that leaves Iquique at 17:30.

I'm guessing there is something hidden there. Something happened between the departure of Iquique and the arrival to Coquimbo and Santiago.
