Let's start with "It's more expensive than a 11 or 12 leg race." Next is the fact that, with the same number of teams, it will cause one additional NEL. Who needs another useless leg? World Race Productions frequently schedules Amazing Races to end close to major holidays, so not extending the number of days to run an Amazing Race is a plus for teams and for WRP staff.

I just wanted to know why they don't have 13 legs anymore? I believe the last time we had 13 legs was in Season 11 (All-Stars).

In fact, it was the last season with 13 legs.  Since TAR12, all the season had 11 (with double legs) or 12 of it.

Anybody know if there was an un-used U-Turn in TAR20? Seems weird to only have one; I figure there must have been a second one somewhere.

How much money do non-winning teams receive? I assume of course it depends on your order of elimination. How many get some?  Top five? More?

I was thinking about the 2nd Cochin leg and Bopper and Mark couldn't catch up  despite winning the FF. Did that leg set the record for shortest time to complete?

In this cast I doubt there was an unused one  There wasn't really time for one with three fast forwards.

Has there been any team that was stopped by the police for checking the passports or for something else not because the team violated the law?

I have a question I desperately need answered

when teams open their envelopes at the Pit Start, they have $__ in US$ right??

I understand if they were flying to a new country they could change their money at an airport
but if they were continuing in a country do they have to go somewhere to change their money or is it already in the foreign currency

E.G. Tar20 Leg 10 - ____ & ____ will depart at ___, you have $25 for this leg of the race

did teams have to get their money changed before racing or has it already been changed for them (this goes for all seasons)

In one leg (I think the second Vietnam leg in TAR10), they received their money in VND from a guy sitting by the Pit Stop, possibly because of the late start to the leg plus the fact that said leg took place in a fairly rural area.

Actually, it's hard to know for sure in recent seasons because in most legs, we're no longer being told how much money they are receiving for the leg, and often the editors no longer even show any of the teams counting their cash for the leg.

AR3 episode 6 in Marrakech Morocco, Andre and Damon were detained for police questioning because they were lost in a bad neighborhood. Passports were checked but the World Race Productions security staff intervened and saved the day. However, it put Andre and Damon last out of the pit stop release and contributed to their elimination.

SuperTux,

I don't know where you got your information, but it appears to be right. I just saw confirmation from Rachel and Brendon that $10K was the 3rd place prize.

One of the cheerleaders from Season 14 has also mentioned that they got $25,000 so I suppose it's still the same.

From a guy in Baidu Forum. His friend's friend was a contestant once, I think.

Racers that are students of the race know they will not need most of their stuff for the final leg and why haul around the big packs.......they just slow you down.

I would suggest that R/D and Art/JJ checked their backpacks with the airline in Osaka International Airport. When they arrived in Hawaii, they just left them in the Customs Hall. Since Brendon and Rachel were not that familiar with the race, they carried their backpacks with them. When the race was over......at some point........Rachel/Dave and Art/JJ went back to the airport to US Customs and retrieved their backpacks.

During pitstops, do racers get to talk/mingle with each other?

Because sometimes racers are surprise that a team will show up in the airport while they're waiting for the flight, didn't they know if a leg is an EL or NEL?

Example is with Bill and Cathi, everyone is so surprise on seeing them in the airport at the start of Leg 2.

I remember in TAR 9, teams are shown chatting in a pitstop, that's why Eric and Danielle kinda got interested with each other...

Just wondering.  :)

They don't get to see each other during the pitstops anymore. In the earlier seasons they did (season 2 had footage of it).

Season 13 was the last season to allow teams to interact during the Pitstops. Is there anyone outside of production that actually thinks that it was a change for the better? Probably not.

There have been a few sporadic legs since then. Luke Adams (aka DeafRacer) said here once that the teams ate dinner together after the leg in which he and his mother U-Turned Amanda & Kris. The teams of TAR17 helped paint that schoolhouse in Ghana together during a Pit Stop. Teams definitely interacted at the Tanzanian camp in TAR20, according to some of the teams' exit interviews (specifically Nary & Jamie).
