Technically there were 11 legs, with one of those being an TBC/double/uber-leg. It still adds up to 12 episodes.

The fact we haven't seen a TBC/double/uber leg in several seasons seems to be tripping some people up.  It shouldn't, but that's the only way I can explain it.  Personally, I'm glad to see that the uberleg is still in the tool kit for the Race course, as it is a great way to induce fatigue, even on leg 1!

So this means it was a TBC leg or 2 legs  :cmas5 :cmas5
If so there was no rest period in Sydney....
We have our newest twist!!
A 30 second Pit stop! Where you can take 2 deep breaths and get back out there!  :cmaslol
but then leg "1" is a NEL and I heard leg 3 was one to?!
that means a lot of eliminations in a row  :cmas5

"Legs" end on the mat with Phil, with either an elimination or a non elimination.

A TBC  (Too Be Continued) ends on the mat with Phil giving the teams a new clue and telling them to race on and no elimination. It is two segments of one leg.....I happen to enumerate them as "a" and "b" to keep it straight in my mind what is happening. Normally both parts of the TBC leg are single episodes seen on TV......ie a complete show.

imo, i think the final 3 teams for TAR 18 (Unfinished Business) are: the Globetrotters, Gary and Malory and Zev and Justin.

Since Kisha and Jen were seen on a train coming into Zurich, apparently from Vienna, this is probably ow they get to Zermatt as well. It looks like there are many rail connections from Zurich to Zermatt. Perhaps the reason K/J were "not racing" is that once they get to Zurich it is still another 3 1/2 hours by train to Zermatt.

I am still not sure why there were no other teams seen on the train with them. At this point there are four or five teams left depending on how many NEL we have had. I would guess four b/c ep10 is usually the final NEL.
Physics alone is not enough.

Those who forget history are sure to repeat it.

Yeah, all the soccer games I've been watching this week have been taking place on snow-covered fields. Most of the games in England this weekend were postponed!

I hope we get some lovely HD Snow-Scenery! That would be amazing! :cmas18

It's time for some speculation about what transportation teams used to get from India to Europe, specifically Vienna as best as RFF hypothesizers can tell. Most significant shortest-time flights from India to Vienna are going to connect through either Mumbai or Delhi airport. Here is the situation from Mumbai:

Nonstop is OS36 BOM VIE 0125 0535  Note- this is a 8 hour 40 minute scheduled duration and limited to Friday 12/3 and Sunday 12/5 (doesn't fly 12/4)

Alternatives connect through Munich at 2 hours 15 minutes more, Zurich at 3 hours 5 minutes more, Frankfurt at 3 hours 5 minutes, Dubai 3 hours 20 minutes, Doha 3 hours 45 minutes

Here is the situation from Delhi:

Nonstop is OS34 DEL VIE 0230 0600 Note- this is a 8 hour scheduled duration and limited to Friday 12/3 and Sunday 12/5 (doesn't fly 12/4  )

Alternatives connect through Zurich at 3 hours more, Munich at 3 hours 15 minutes more, Frankfurt 3 hours 25 minutes, Amsterdam 3 hours 35 minutes,
Helsinki 3 hours 55 minutes.

The transportation between Vienna and Zurich is assumed by some on RFF to be by train. Although it is a gorgeous route, the most rapid trains take 8 hours, leaving at 720am and 920am. I believe that this is a segment that will be done by flying. There are flights bunched into a few time frames, around 7am, 10am and 230pm, and take 85 minutes plus lead time to transit security and ticketing at Vienna airport.

I think this is also the second time that a penultimate leg will end in South America before going back to the US because most of the other seasons, Asia is mostly its penultimate leg with a count of 9.  The last South American penultimate leg that they visited was Season 7 and it was in Puerto Rico.

No, Puerto Rico is a US territory, you don't need a passport to go there. I thought most people considered the Caribbean part of Central America which is North America.

I know Wikipedia isnt the best source, but the Demographics for SA don't include the Caribbean, but North America does.

https://secure.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/wiki/South_america#Demographics

https://secure.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/wiki/North_America#Countries_and_territories

So I think its proper to say that TAR18 is the first season with a South American penultimate leg.

Were there flights in Europe got affected in the race by the snowstorm?  Just as what is being seen in the news recently.  Hope the racers were fine.

Thanks to that, having some confusions on which countries are in the North and South Americas.

Well said.   :cmas16

TAR 18 ended prior to the heavy snows.

The snows that are hitting Europe now are the 2nd pass. The first pass of storms was when teams were in Inida. As I said.....you can just look at Frankfurt airport when teams were in the Vienna to Zurich to Zermatt time frame and see multiple cancellations and delays due to the first wave of storms. Whether it affect TAR....I doubt we will ever know till the show airs.

I looked at Weather Underground for central Europe and London......from Nov 28 to about Dec 5......the temp basically never got above freezing (32F/0C)....then it hovered around the freezing point till Dec 10/11. I checked Vienna, Zurich, Frankfurt, Paris and London. Vienna got some small precipatation, but all the others reported no precipatation. It was just a severe cold spell. I remember it on the news at the time.....but I thought there was snow associated with it.....apparently not.
